A holy grail! Tons of plants both native & nonnative that you wouldn't find at a large-scale store like Home Depot or Lowe's (I know because I've been looking). Going on their website is helpful because you can see what is in stock, but I had no idea how vast this place was. I'd only been looking at CA native plants, so from my parking spot to the pick-up desk I maybe only covered 1/15th of the area, if that. I've been looking for a local nursery with a wide selection of California natives, & have been lurking Ricardo's Nursery's online selection for a month. Finally purchased a 1-gallon Cleveland sage (Salvia clevelandii 'Winnifred Gilman') for $12 & a 1-gallon Yankee Point Carmel Creeper (Ceanothus griseus var. horizontalis 'Yankee Point') for $10. They had different variations of each plant reserved for me for me to choose from which was so endearing because I am secretly picky. Spoke with Jose who was super cool. There's also a very chill dog :) I was surprised by how vast the selection was in-person. The white sage (salvia apiana) in stock is just gorgeous. There are soooo many others I want to purchase, so thank goodness for my wallet that my project is fairly limited. (For now!) I would've wandered around photographing every single plant if it wasn't a million degrees outside & I didn't have to be somewhere. In just the 3 minutes it took me to walk to the pick-up stand, many plants caught my eye & I was reading the labels to figure out who they were. Really loved this one plant I saw--Silver Falls dichondra (Dichondra argentea 'Silver Falls'). Really large nursery with knowledgeable staff members on hand. My husband's been looking for a persimmon tree & told me he couldn't find any online. He finally bought what looks like a twig to me, planted it in a pot & has been watering it. I can't even tell if it will come alive or not & there are no leaves or sprouts, or any sign of life to it yet. I searched Yelp & found Ricardo's and called them yesterday. They said they jave several 15 gallon persimmon trees & delivery will be $20. We went today & they had varying heights of 15 gallon persimmon trees, ranging from $150-180. We wanted to get the 15 gallon so we can get reimbursed partially for it as we are participating in LB's Lawn to Garden program. Today they said delivery will be $35 (we live 3.5 miles away) so I am taking one star away for raising the delivery fee once we are at the store. But otherwise, everyone was helpful, knowledgeable, & friendly. One staff even pry opened an ice cream fruit & my husband tasted it. (I'm not so adventurous so I demurred...) They have many mango trees, avocado trees, pomegranate trees, drago fruit trees, & many, many other plants. We only stayed in the entrance area & there were so many plants. They have many drought tolerant plants, including succulents. They do not have citrus trees due to fruit flies & state quarantine zone rules. Overall, nice big nursery with helpful staff. What a beautiful oasis of tropical, native, and simply stunning plants all around. We had the best experience last weekend exploring their selection. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and so helpful... they even offered us fruits to try that we had never heard of! How often does that happen? It truly felt magical and unforgettable. I called about Dragon Fruit plants and was told they had a pretty big selection of Dragon Fruit plants of different varities. When I got there, although the people were nice, it was a mess, with most of the Dragon Fruit plants in various stages of disarray and poor condition, with most unlabeled, with no names, and no idea what you would be buying. The excuse for the total mess was, the person who was supposed to organize everything.. didn't. When I called prior to making a long drive for 5 minutes of .. I don't know, I explained exactly what I was looking for, so I wouldn't find myself in that exact position of a mess of plants with someone not knowing what was going on there... A total waste of time, money and gas.. As I said, nice people, but no clue what they are doing. If I worked there, every plant, every tree, would have a label showing the name of what it is, and have every type of plant and tree grouped in specific areas, and well maintained without looking 3/4 dead or trashed... I have been waiting to get my hands on the vanilla ice cream tree for months now. They close at 5 but Ricardo was sweet enough to stay open for me to grab the tree. The tree is extremely healthy. Ricardo took the time to sit down w me and discuss my tiny plants. I ordered them and followed up w a delivery of 4 tiny terracotta pots into which the plants were to be potted. We've been at Ricardo's twice now and we are planning on coming back again and again. We've bought several fruit trees that are doing wonderful in our backyard. (They offer next day delivery.) My husband loves their bonsai trees, since they are not only gorgeous but incredibly affordable. Ricardo, Freddy, and two other knowledgeable ladies were of great help! They provided care instructions, age information and what would work together. I found some rare fruit plants and they have a nice collection of indoor plants. I love how honest and dedicated they are to the quality of their trees/plants. I really wanted a rare fruit plant tree the first time we visited, but, their staff was reluctant to sell it to me due to it not looking so well, and today it looked healthy and came home with me. :) Im so glad I found Ricardo on Facebook! We liked the staff. Even though their masks weren't always on. They were very helpful and nice. However, the $90 Christmas tree we bought with the stand in place... a damn mess. They hammer nails through the wood legs, into the green water tub, and into the tree trunk. These holes should be sealed. Ours were not. I called in and was told that they've been selling trees for 13 years and never had that happen. Well my living room has a huge water spot showing that it can happen. Lesson in customer service- if a customer calls in and they have a valid issue, you rectify that concern and keep the customer. You don't tell them "that doesn't make sense" and then offer nothing in return. read more

I took one of Ricardo's Nurseries super fun Saturday workshop classes with my mom and sister! We did the combo class because we got a discount for signing up for both classes they were hosting that day! The first one was painting your alebrije at 10AM where we picked our own hand carved wooden Mexican folklore statue (like the ones in coco!!) we had such a fun time painting them!! We grabbed lunch around the corner at this cute and trendy little center and At 2 we started the ice cream workshop!!!!! SOOO YUM and all natural ingredients. Big selection. Nice, helpful workers who are easy to find and flag down for help. Lots of different succulents, SOME houseplants, and other kinds of plants. I took a ton of pictures but I have uploaded some here with captions so you can see the diversity of their plants. Disclaimer: I have visited my share of South Bay nurseries so while this place is not bad in any way, I will say that there are other cheaper nurseries with better-cared plants that are not far from here. There are a lot of random weeds in their pots and I did see some mealy bugs in some succulents in the front so be meticulous when looking through the leaves. The houseplant selection is kind of lacking (just one type of pothos - golden) and expensive ($35 for a small-medium monstera) compared to big box stores. I leave a positive review because I did find one of my wishlist plants here and I also got a free 4-inch succulent through Yelp so I had a happy experience. read more
