I loved my experience! Such a cute concept for a business and loved that it was woman owned. I'm already a pretty artsy person so this was right up my alley. My only feedback would be that I wish there were more beads and charms to decorate. I feel like the selection was a little slim and that could have very well been because we came a week after Halloween and perhaps it was a busy time? Regardless, the place was decorated so cute and the two hour time slot that I booked was exclusively for us, which I thought was really nice. Another note- the number on yelp is not updated and there are two addresses that come up when you search via google maps. Make sure you are going to the right location!

Dainty Disco is such a cute and unique craft studio in Long Beach, especially for decoden glue…read morecrafts! There aren't many places like this in the area, so it's a fun and creative spot to check out. I found them on Instagram and decided to go with some friends. I've been to two craft studios that are similar, so my review is based on experiences from other places. The booking process was super easy--you reserve online with a $10 nonrefundable deposit, which goes toward the final cost of your craft. When we went at 3 PM on a Friday, we were the only group there, so we had the whole space to ourselves. Free street parking was available right in front of the store, which was a plus! Just a heads-up, it's located in an older part of Long Beach, so keep that in mind. The studio itself is absolutely adorable - very girly and charming. It's a smaller space but seems like it could accommodate a few larger groups at a time, so if you're planning to go with a big party, I'd recommend inquiring ahead of time. One thing I really appreciated is that there's no per-person studio fee. The craft prices ranged from around $15-$45, which is similar to other craft studios I've been to. You can decorate a variety of items like jewelry boxes, mirrors, photo frames, claw clips, phone cases, and glass cups. There was a nice selection of beads, charms, glitter, and other craft supplies. Their website and Instagram list monthly specials, and this month's Hello Kitty and Sonny Angel-inspired phone buddies were adorable. The owner was incredibly sweet, and you can tell she puts a lot of love into her business. She originally started Dainty Disco as a gift shop, so there's still a small retail section with cute merchandise available for purchase. A couple of minor things could be improved. The lighting inside the studio wasn't the best--it was a cloudy day, which didn't help, but some additional overhead lighting would have been useful for crafting. Also, a few craft options were sold out; for example, they were out of the larger heart jewelry boxes and only had one smaller one left. I think a section on the website that lists the options for crafts with pictures would have been helpful in guiding customers ahead of time for their choices. Overall, we had a great time, and it was nice to support a small business! They also host monthly craft meet-ups, which I'd love to check out in the future. If you're looking for a fun and creative activity in Long Beach, I definitely recommend giving Dainty Disco a visit and I'm down to come back!

Kubo continues to be a Filipino-owned community venue that houses a retail space,…read moredisplaying/selling a variety of Pinoy-inspired merch. My wife and I stopped in during a visit to the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach, and was impressed by the collection of curated products, neatly displayed across the space. Folks were setting up tables for one of their many cultural events/gatherings, but their space is big enough to handle it while shoppers browse. Their retail space includes a collection of 'Filipino Komiks & Kids Lit' and prints from local/Filipino artists (two of which we've already displayed at our home). This time, ended up bringing home a 'Bangus Pro Shop' ballcap ($24.95) and Filipino Birthday Greeting Card ($5.50). The payment processing is modern, using Shopify, their website platform provider. And their associates continue to be so friendly and helpful. Kubo is just a great place to visit.

When we came in, they were setting up for an event later in the day. With that being said, I can tell there is a lot of engagement and activities for the community! My fiancé and I came to stop by, to purchase gifts for a friend. He felt very seen and felt with every little book, trinket, and toy. I also felt delight seeing myself, being represented. I loved seeing the handmade items, small business items being sold, and books. The most impressive part was the books and toys for infants/toddlers. We purchased some "first words in Tagalog" books and a toy. This place is definitely worth visiting! The girls here were very inviting and nice. It was a pleasure stopping by and we hope to come back again!

Hello fellow, yelpers - many of us are foodies who just can't get enough of great flavors,…read moretextures, cuisines from around the world... in addition to being foodies many of us also love art, music, poetry, literature... And many of us also enjoy having colorful plants around our home, our gardens, indoors, and outside... plants soaking up the Southern California, sun and thanks to complex network of waterways underground we have water too (thank you, Owens Valley!!). When you've had your share of food and culture I suggest you beautify your home with the wonderful plants from United Plant Growers on the west side of Long Beach. This freeway-friendly location offers amazing deals and a super amazing selection / variety. The workers are helpful although it's largely a do-it-yourself operation. Walk the yard, walk the greenhouses, walk across the street where there are bigger plants, bring a sun hat, bring boots or shoes that can get muddy, and have at it! You will undoubtedly load up your cart with many wonderful and luscious plants that are seriously, 1/4 the price of Home Depot and H& H nursery. You will seriously love this place.
