I have been an NRA certified Instructor since 1993. In that time I have taken or audited no less than 100 different State CCW courses in Florida, Texas, California, Utah and Nevada. I can say with certainty that Armed and Safe ranks in the top three and may be the best of its type. We took the renewal course for our NV CCW and the class certificate is also good for the neighboring states of Utah and Oregon as well and Florida, giving the student the ability to lawfully carry concealed in up to 36 states. Allan and Kelly are knowledgeable, professional and eager to answer questions. There were 30 to 40 students in the class, but not one suffered from lack of attention and the time went by quickly as Kelly and Allan teach a very engaging class that holds the students' interest with solid information, the right doses of humor when appropriate and a solid focus on the fundamentals of safety and shooting. I honestly am looking forward to renewing with them again in another 5 years. read more

Took my 1st class from Armed and Safe 5 years ago and just took my second class. They have this class all planned out to maximize your time. You'll be at the police station the same day as the class in most cases. I wish the class was all shooting and no classroom, but unfortunately most of your time will be in the class. We shot at 7 yards(21 feet). One guy was using a .22!!! I guess it doesn't matter what you show proficiently with(as of now). Could all change anytime. Worth my money and time! read more

What a painful experience. I felt like I was listening to Rush Limbaugh give a CCW lesson for five hours. These people are more concerned about spewing their political and Second Amendment jargon than giving helpful gun safety advice. Unfortunately, given their demographic, they'll probably never get this honest feedback elsewhere. Their version of a "test" was laughable and speaks to the enablement and fetish with guns that so many people have. I can't imagine the governing agencies recommend the tester essentially provide the answers to the class. All I could think was, their version of a test speaks to the systemic problems with guns in our society. Update: Owner contacted me and said if I wasn't happy, I could return my cert, spend another day in a class, take the same test and she would refund me - what a class act. read more

The wife and I went to Armed and Safe in order to obtain our CCW for the State of Nevada. Classroom time was a bit long. They did cover a lot of information. Instructors were knowledgeable, pleasant and fun. The shooting time was short but they made suggestions to get you shooting with confidence and accuracy. This is a basic course, very basic. I just got my CCW Certification done with these folks. If you live in this region, THIS is who you want to train with. This is a really great company, with knowledgeable and friendly firearms instructors! Also, they're not nearly as expensive as anyone else I found in the area. I couldn't help but notice the poor review someone left below. Her review absolutely does NOT reflect what I experienced in this class. I have got to assume that her review was more of a politically motivated hit-piece rather than a true account of what occurred in class. The staff who conducted this training were welcoming of everyone present. They kept the course very interesting and fun. Let's face it, 8 hours of mostly classroom training is not how any of us want to spend a weekend, but Allan and Kelly make this necessity as enjoyable as possible. They cover all the information you need to know for your CCW exam and patiently answer any questions without letting the class run too far afield with "what ifs" and "I had a friend who told me..." stories. Excellent training. Lots of good anecdotes. These two know their way around guns and the Nevada law. The pistol qualification at the range is not a gimme. You better come well practiced. They mix up the requirements, two hand, strong hand, slow, fast. You'll pass, but you better not come here hoping they'll teach you how to shoot. You have to already know that before you get here, so you can pass the qualification accuracy requirements. I did both first time permit and permit renewal with them. All I can say is AWESOME! this has to be one of the best classes I have ever taken in my life, Kelley and Allan were fun, personable, and interactive. During the entire 8 hour course I never got bored once. I took along my best friends mom who is older and retired, she loved it just as much as I did. I just completed my NV CCW basic training with Armed and Safe. I would highly recommend them. The classroom training was good. Some of the material (like the legal definitions and codes) can be dry, but our instructor did a good job of keeping the material clear and engaging (good explanations, examples, etc.), with a few bad jokes thrown in to keep us awake. There were no firearm novices in my class so the basic safety classroom session moved quickly. That said, they did an excellent job during to Q&A, and anytime a question came up they would slow down and make sure questions were fully resolved. So I think even if you had little or no prior experience you could benefit from the course. Armed and Safe also has good quality training materials to take home, so you can learn more and review after the course, for example if you want to apply for a Utah CCW permit. The range session was simple but excellent and I thought they managed the students perfectly. Safety was maintained at the firing line, and they did an especially good job of figuring out who needed help, and providing attentive and detailed feedback. I don't know how easy a 7 yard qualification would be for a someone with no prior experience firing a handgun, but the instructors were so patient and helpful that I think most people could do the course, even if they were new to firearms. The instructors brought a variety of gear and did a great job of introducing the class to different CC options. The course also comes with a nice set of materials for review after, the trainers make themselves available via the web for additional Q&A, and they even allow you to schedule follow up range time with them (essentially just the cost of the range time) if you want to practice skills. So, overall, great class and I recommend it to anyone considering concealed carry or who just wants to learn more about laws and basic firearm safety. One final comment: When deciding which CCW class to take I read the yelp reviews and I saw one negative review for Armed and Safe where the reviewer criticized instructors for sharing their political opinions in class. Having been through the class now I'll offer my opinion: Yes, you are going to learn about some important gun ownership, handling, transportation, and use laws in class, and you will hear some commentary on the politics behind them, and how that affects your rights and options. If you haven't taken such a course before, it may help to go in with the expectation that in pretty much all firearms training (e.g. hunter's safety, NRA basics) the trainers are passionate about 2nd amendment rights and safe and responsible use of firearms. Many will share their opinions about the laws and how they are changing and how those changes affect your rights. I didn't see or hear anything unusual from the instructors during this course, so if you are worried by the previous review there are crazy people teaching the course, don't be. The instructors always did a great job with the core material and always separated their opinions from the training materials, usually with light humor. read more

Excellent comprehensive instruction covering NV firearms law and relevant concealed carry law and best practices with current updates. I also called and left a message on their landline.Unfortunately the internet is not fool proof and sometimes automatic reply systems to business related e mails get fouled up. Very good training and best prices I've found. Price on Saturday is $60 for the full CCW class (8 hrs) or $50 for renewal. Classes are taught right in Sheels in Sparks, NV upstairs by the firearm sales area. Nice clean air conditioned classroom. For women who are thinking about getting a CCW, the class is very well taught by a woman named Kelly who gives perspectives on firearm holsters, carry and retention for women in addition to men. I took my initial certification class 5 years ago and completed my re-certification class this past weekend. This a very knowledgeable group of individuals. They appear to be experts in what they do, are very proficient and highly personable. Their goal is for you to be 100% comfortable with what you have learned. This is not a group that just takes your money in exchange for a training certification. I would recommend taking the initial class even if you are not interested in obtaining a CCW. The safety training is well worth it. My main take home point from the last class is that I am not as good as I think I am. I will be contact ting them for addition instruction. read more

My CCW permit was set to expire so I looked around for a convenient school for my renewal. I work weekends but had a rare free Saturday so on short notice (Thurs) I found out they had a class this past weekend. It started at the Washoe Gun Range, a nice facility but about 30 min north of Sparks. There I found Allan and his team all set up and ready for us. I had forgotten my hearing protection, but they had extras. After a safety briefing they had us shoot the required 30 rounds, with an instructor for every 3-4 students. Very nice ratio! I picked up some valuable tips and shot well under their supervision. A lady beside me had definite issues hitting the middle of the target. The instructors patiently worked with her getting her familiarized with her weapon and showing her correct stances and grips, and really basic shooting tips. I don't know how she originally qualified but they taught her more there than any instructor she'd ever had before, and as I was packing up she was starting to hit the target with regularity and her confidence level went way up. I kept thinking of my original CCW class and the apathetic instructor we had- one guy for 11-12 of us. Such a difference in attitude and professionalism in Alan and his crew! When I arrived at Scheels for the classroom part, Kelly was already halfway through the new CCW class. We renewals joined up and I was impressed with her teaching skills and the information she imparted. You can tell she is not only a gun enthusiast but also a great teacher because she not only kept everyone interested but had some great stories and tactical information to impart. Just completed CCW training. These folks are great! Kelly did the classroom training, Alan led the qualification session. They were helpful, fun, alert to (my way-to-often finger on trigger) safety issues, made sure we understood not just the rules - but why they were there. At te end of the day, they continued with close quarter training - and that was just plain eye-opening to someone like me who has been around firearms for over 55 years. I loved my Grandpa, but he just didn't know what these two know! Plenty of equipment for those who didn't quite follow the instructions. They made it (almost) impossible not to have fun and to learn. Wow, what a great investment in myself! I invested in a one day firearms training course and have been shooting for most of my life. I was amazed at how much I learned, in addition to qualifying for my CCW permit, which I got from the Sheriff several weeks later. Kelly and Allan ran a great class that was very informative and covered many situations and questions that I had both prior to and during the class.
