If you are looking for a business that offers quality firearms training then no look no further…read morethan here. Joel is one of the best instructors in the Reno/Sparks area. As an instructor he is thorough, intelligent and best of all patient. He has taught everyone from those who have no background in firearms to experienced law enforcement/military professionals. His most basic course, in the home firearm safety, is very educational and teaches you the fundamentals and foundation of firearm safety. His defensive pistol course is for more experienced and those looking to further their tactics and techniques. Additionally, he offers a Range Safety Officer course and Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) training. Joel is an honest, wholesome and humble professional who truly seeks to educate and give the tools to those who wish to be an asset in society by defend themselves and others. I highly recommend his courses to anybody who is looking to further their education and skills in firearms and firearm safety.

Took my CCW renewal course from Mr. Shank. I really liked the lively presentation style he had. As…read moresome of the material having to do with concealed carry can be a bit dry it makes the time go by quickly. He still kept it serious where needed as this is a serious subject. He got through the material and kept us on schedule and as a busy person I appreciated that a lot. Would recommend him unreservedly. The one minor negative (which is really not anyone's fault in fairness) was because of the classroom being above the shooting range ( a good thing as you get to do your qualifying shoot straightaway without having to change locations) it was a little hard to hear the presentation at times from the noise below. As I said, it was only a minor negative as Gary was very skilled to pause as needed if he was making an important point and it got too loud. The fee for the course was also quite fair and a good value as I looked at other offerings for double + the $'s !

I went to the ccw class taught by Matt Marquez on a Monday. It was a small class size with only 4…read moreother students. The class ranged from new gun owners to retired plinking experts, and everything in between. I know it can be scary taking a firearms class, especially if it's your first one. Don't worry Matt will take the time to help you along the process so there is no reason to be nervous if you are a novice gun owner. The class is broken down into a classroom portion, a gun handling portion, and a live fire portion. The classroom consisted of a necessary PowerPoint with first hand knowledge and experience thrown in. There is a written test that must be passed and then it's on to the more hands on training. All of the basic gun handling fundamentals and techniques are reviewed, as well as drawing from concealment. As a class we decided to drive down the street to take our shooting qualification test at the bigshot range. We shot the qualification and received additional guidance from Matt. I ended up shooting an extra box of ammo to practice what I learned from the class. Matt Marquez is a great teacher and brings his experience from a variety of specialized law enforcement divisions to make the class entertaining and educational. There's a difference between a qualified professional and someone going through the motions and just reading off a script. You can tell the people at hog tactical really care about their students and will do whatever it takes to help them. I would recommend taking the Hog Tactical CCW course and I plan on taking more of their wide variety of classes they have to offer. ~BMO

Crucible Consulting with Daniel Bales as your instructor is TOP NOTCH! I had Daniel as an…read moreinstructor five years ago when I obtained my CCW permit for the first time. I absolutely loved my experience back then. Little did I know that not all classes are the same. I had no idea how much I would come to appreciate the experience I had learning from Daniel all those years ago. I was up for renewal and also have a friend that was looking to get her permit for the first time. I decided to take a class with her so she had someone with her to share the experience. We tried a local business by signing up for a First Time Gun Owner class to build her confidence. That was a HUGE mistake. That experience came close to talking her right out of wanting to continue the course of gun ownership or her CCW permit. I promised her that Daniel was a great instructor. He is very thorough, patient and kind. He helps you understand why it is important to do things correctly and safely and gives you confidence to keep trying until you finally get it. He lets you know that it's okay to not be perfect and the importance of practice, practice, practice to help you get better and better at things. People may think that they will go somewhere else because it is cheaper. All I can say, is you get what you pay for. You cannot go wrong taking a class with Daniel and the other instructors at Crucible Consulting. He makes the eight hours fly with all of the great information but also making it fun. Don't tell him, but he's pretty funny, too. I promise you, you will be happy you took this class with Crucible Consulting and Daniel Bales. I felt the need to share this positive review because of the negative experience I had somewhere else. I want everyone that reads reviews to know that you should not go anywhere else besides Crucible Consulting. They are truly the BEST.
