The attached picture is the end result from the CCW / Pistol I class at Nevada Firearms Academy, taught by Scott Catron on 4/18/2026.. It was such a fun day in the classroom and at the range. I enjoyed the whole day while learning about consealed weapons' law and I improved my shooting skill. Thank you Scott and the NFA's team for making that day fun and safe for us. Jerry read more

Just a few days ago I went out on the range with a friend of mine and despite the cold I thoroughly enjoyed it. Man I wish they had some space heaters hanging overhead in their outdoor ranges. My hands! LOL The service is straight forward. From stopping in, signing a waiver, picking up some rental items like ear or eye protection--it's all tremendously affordable and under $20. This alone offers a tremendous value. In terms of a selection per se, you can sign up for a membership which ranges from $30-$40 a month depending on the plan or you can go for a single day visit. Adults about $15. From there it's all about the training. From as little as 3 yards to as much as 2000, go for it. Pistols, shotguns, ARs, bring it. They also have some firearms you can rent while you're there at an affordable price (but there's a range fee required when using their firearms). It's a bit of a journey out to head out to Pyramid Way where they're located, but you should consider the journey and training there if you're serious about firearm training and understanding these tools in a wonderful outdoor setting that puts you in the mentality of growing your skill and proficiency. Shout out to Dean who was our Range Safety Officer that day. He was courteous, professional and that's what you want when working with firearms. Check them out! read more

I have a mixed experience with guns .. none that were officially a training on the basics. The class was easy to sign up for and the staff were open and willing to communicate as much as needed . I learned SO much in this class. The main thing is it's not a race. They focus on precision and safety as well as having a fun time. The class i was in wad such a great group of people! Making friends in new places is always great! They offer many types of classes with great quality of info and instructors. I never realized how valuable all this info is until we got into the nitty gritty of scenarios and real life examples. 10/10 highly recommend read more

My friend and I had an awesome experience. We were brand new but learned so much and the confidence went from 0 to 100 in just one day. Makala did such an awesome job helping us when we had questions. Highly recommend to anyone from brand new person to expert. read more

Scott was a very thorough classroom instructor. Not only teaching the law but giving practical examples. Scott, Makala, and Tyson were very patient instructors on the range. After only shooting my Glock once before this class, they each individually worked with me and gave me the confidence I needed to be more comfortable. It's not the last time they'll see me! Thank you for having a top notch environment that people can work on their skills and mindset to be more confident with their firearms! read more

If you are new in the neighborhood and you wanna learn how to shoot a gun, I recommend here ... my son bought a couple guns. We went to go shoot them and instead of the guy just watching us do it the wrong way. He came up to us and showed us how to shoot the proper way. His name was Tyson. He went above and beyond to make us comfortable and showed us how the proper way to use. I definitely will be back to take a class ,, the crew there was amazing ,,thanks again Tyson. ,,,I love when people love doing what they do read more

The owners and staff are always professional, proficient and personable. Today, Mikala and Tyson were working helping new folks getting oriented, etc. the place is clean, nicely decorated and spacious. The air conditioning is very effective in the building and the stations. Snacks and coffee are available. The selection of rentals is varied and plentiful. I am a member and certainly make use of the benefits that are included in the price of a yearly membership for a pretty good value. read more

Took my CCW renewal class at Nevada Firearms Academy & Range yesterday! The owner, Scott, was our teacher for the 4 hour class. Scott and his wife, Makala are super friendly and full of knowledge! I booked our class online a couple weeks ago and so pleased we went with this instructor. All the employees here are awesome. If you're in need of a CCW, definitely check this place out! The renewal class was only $50. They offer other classes and training here that look really beneficial. They run the outdoor range as well in Palomino Valley. $10 range fee for that! Free popcorn, cookies and water too! Comfortable class setting and Scott is a wealth of knowledge to throw questions at as he's born/raised here in the area. You'll feel completely comfortable coming here as a beginner for anyone that's a newbie. Check out their website for class schedule and calendar. For the renewal class, they charge $25 to book the class and the day of the class before you leave with your renewal certificate, they'll charge the other $25. So happy with this place and will be back to take one of their training classes. read more

We came in to rent and gun and shoot the range for my CCW. Everyone was so helpful. Although I was at the end of the line to shoot all went smoothly. I felt the ventilation could have been better since I did taste the gun powder through the night and had a little cough. I think ventilation along with safety is the most important part for any range. Next time I will come in mouth covered. They had a variety of guns to rent so I went with the one that I am thinking of buying. I did fairly well after not touching a handgun in years. Now that my eyesight is better and fixed, I plan to hit the range more often. Practice makes a better gun handler. Nice friendly range with prices that are comparable to others around the area. Snacks on site in case you stay longer. The location is good since it is close to home and has easy access. I'll be back once I buy my new gun to try it out. See you all soon. read more

First off, I'm a brand new gun owner & took the time to educate myself on the property handling of a firearm with Nevada Firearms Academy. I've been pretty shy at going to my first range, but finally decided to go to NFA. I figured I'd take the 1-on-1 training, they offer. I would recommend it to anyone who is reluctant to have training. Their instructors are knowledgeable, caring & friendly. They help in reducing the stress during loud sounds by reassuring you you'll be just fine. The training aspect was a 1 hour 1-on-1, initially you meet with your instructor & go over proper grip, proper sight alignment & what to expect when you get into the range portion. When on the range, you played a pretty cool game, to help in reducing shot anticipation anxiety for the first shot. For $75, I felt the value was more than fair in the training you receive. If you're new or just need a little refresher I highly recommend NFA's classes & training! read more

A few years ago, when I was brand new to shooting, I wasn't sure where to go in Reno. I'd heard some mixed things about the previous owner of the Pyramid location, but when I saw that Nevada Firearms Academy NFA had taken over, I decided to give them a shot and I'm so glad I did!! From the moment I showed I was immediately welcomed. The staff were super friendly and they made me feel comfortable right away even though I was a total beginner. They didn't just hand me a lane and send me on my way--they actually took the time to educate me and help me build a solid foundation. Over the years I've built a great relationship with the team there and now theyre my go to spot for everything. I also took my CCW permit class with them and it was a fantastic experience. Makala and Scott were incredibly knowledgeable and made the process so smooth. They broke everything down in a way that was easy to understand and really emphasized safety and confidence. The whole team is just top notch, professional, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do!! NFA has a great vibe and I always recommend it to my friends and family! Whether youre a complete newbie like I was or have been shooting for years, this is the place to go. Plus, they've got some really exciting plans in the works to expand and offer even more services, and I can't wait to see what's next!! Huge thanks to everyone at NFA for creating such a welcoming space. You've earned a lifelong customer here! read more

They took over Big Shot, so they are new to the location. Hubby wanted to shoot his new guns so we went on a weeknight. It was before their grand opening so we were the only ones there, which was nice. Their prices are great ($15 for the DAY!), the customer service is excellent, and they have a nice variety of targets. They have anything and everything you'd need to rent too, so if you don't have your own gear, they have you covered. Will definitely be back :) read more

I was invited by a colleague of mine to take the CCW course and I highly recommend it! I am always skeptical about shooting with complete strangers, but Scott & Makala Catron immediately created a completely safe environment. You can tell Scott is high proficient in his ability to shoot, teach, and communicate. Some classes can be very dense, and although there are many "T's" to cross and "I's" to dot, Scott kept everything very engaging. He took his time, where needed, to ensure the class was completely proficient and understood everything before moving on. The best part about the class was the attention to detail and repetition for the actual shooting. Scott is a huge proponent of going over rudimentary movements to create muscle memory and precision. I have been shooting all kinds of guns since about 10 years old (I'm 35 now), and I've never had an instructor focus on the details as Scott. If you're in the market to take a shooting class and/or get your CCW I cannot recommend these guys enough! The only bummer, was a failure on my part to bring enough warm closes, because it was outside I am kind of wimpy when it comes to the cold. But once we got moving, everything was perfect! read more

I can't speak highly enough about the team at NFA. Their approach to making you feel comfortable, confident, and safe is unmatched. They all really care about the experience from start to finish. I have taken the pistol one course at the outdoor range and the One on One with Makala at the indoor range. Each class was very informative and helped me get over my insecurities about firearms. Makala and Scott make sure their team and customers always feel like family. I am a lifelong customer at NFA, and I'm so glad to have found them! read more

Really nice business for Guns and Archery. I visited yesterday and was very impressed. The employees and owners are very nice, approachable and knowledgeable. There is a very nice gun shooting range downstairs with a very comfortable waiting area outside. The upstairs has a classroom and a really nice archery range. The waiting area between the classroom and archery range has tables for eating or working on papers/laptops and some really amazing couches for just hanging out. Both my husband and teen daughter really liked using the facility and I'm sure we will be back often read more

I was blessed to have a 1-1 intro lesson with Makala (and Tyson too!) today. The class was fantastic as was the tutorial! I never thought I would ever want to take a firearms class and had never touched or fired a pistol in my life! Makala is a fantastic instructor and really meets you where you are in terms of education. If you are a complete novice like me she explains it in laymen's terms so it makes sense. Both Makala and Tyson were patient with me when we got out to the range and explained what I was doing right and what I needed to adjust to ensure I was not only comfortable but confident in the new skills I was learning. If you have ever thought about learning how to shoot I absolutely recommend signing up for one of their classes. You will be hooked! Thank you Makala, Tyson and NV Firearms Academy for making me feel comfortable and confident learning a new skill! I will definitely be back! read more

It was my second interaction with local shooting academy. A couple of years ago I got my CCW permit. No disappointment. Clear, straight to the point, and I lot of useful information. Today, I had a very productive and fun shooting class with such a meaningful approach to tactical shooting. The class was not very big, and every student got personal attention from one of the 3 NFA instructors at the range. We were unstoppable in our improvement, the rain or wind couldn't stop us, but we kept going. I had a little experience before. I solidified it today and found how much more there is to learn about tactical shooting. I'll be back for that. Thank you guys. read more

If you're looking to get your CCW, look no further... you have found the best school in Northern Nevada. The instructors are excellent and incredibly experienced. The CCW class provided by NFA is safe and really fun and is really for any level of shooter. You'll learn nothing but good techniques that are practical. They go slow so you learn the basics down before ramping up. No matter if you are a novice or advanced shooter, you will walk away with a ton of new knowledge and skill. I loved this class! As a novice shooter, I was pretty nervous. By the end of the class, I was way more confident and comfortable than when I first started. I left inspired and plan to continue training with these guys. Thank you Nevada Firearms Academy team; y'all are so awesome! read more

I took the CCW class because i moved from another state, and my out of state reciprocity was no longer valid in NV. I felt it was a top notch class. The classroom stuff was kept to the bare minimum as required by law but still informative. The range portion was great and was more of a real class rather than just running 70 rounds through your gun as fast as you can for qualification. I have had the opportunity to train under retired police officers, active and retired military, active swat and even some ex-spec ops guys and i can say the training scott provided is right on point or better than i have seen in the past. I really appreciated his attention on safety as we had a spectrum of shooters from advanced to novice and he and Makala always had safety as a focal point. I recommend them and will use them myself in the future for more training. One nit pik item: it would be nice if you could find an outdoor range a little closer to south reno with bathroom facilities and maybe a table or two. Not a showstopper but i hate to drive on gravel. read more

Best range in town. the staff is always very friendly and helpful. Last time I was in, the owner really helped me out with advice about a couple of weapon issues I was having. I stopped by with my girlfriend to try out my new pistol and I can't say enough good things about this place. For it being my first time the staff treated me awesome and made me feel like this was my go to gun range from now on. Prices were really reasonable. This range appears to be closed. I have been a member of this range since they opened, memberships includes free FFL transfers. I have a firearm that was to be delivered by UPS yesterday. The tracking says that the business has moved. I called the store and there was no answer. I went over there today and it is indeed closed. The inside is empty and painted on the windows is a notice that CCW classes are now at the Washoe County public range. So now I'm left trying to figure out how to get my gun. I guess the money I paid for my membership is gone too. Not sure what happened but this range was nice and convenient. The owners and staff were great too. read more

I attended the pistol 1 course after talking to some of my co-workers, and I'm really glad I did. The classroom time was very informative, law and state statutes explained in detail, but Trey made sure we weren't bored. He is very personable, made everyone feel welcome, and was very helpful when we had questions. The instructors who taught on the range in the afternoon were really professional. They were very helpful, and explained each step of our shooting experience in such a way that I felt extremely confident about handling a gun safely. I appreciated the personal help from the instructors regarding my choice of gun that I brought with me for the class. They went above and beyond to make sure that I was able to participate, their help made an enormous impact on my education and experience! I would recommend taking the CCW class even if you aren't planning on concealed carry, just for the safety aspects. I had attended a CCW class many years ago, but this was by far, a better experience. I now feel comfortable with my knowledge and skills, and plan on pursuing further education with my firearms. read more

10/10 would definitely recommend! Never have I ever... taken ANY type of training, whether it have been vocational or what have you, and felt so confident in my instructor/teacher! We had all trained at the range for almost a whole day and shot just shy of 200 rounds! Even though you're in a group, you still feel like you're getting a 1 on 1 training. You will walk away feeling confident in yourself knowing that Scott and Makala were your instructors. Their course ensures you understand what you're doing, they point out your mistakes and help you correct them, and explain things in a way that you understand. This course really reflected on these instructors and who they are. I'm honestly proud to say that it was this class that I chose to take. They were very very kind and funny, they make you feel as if you've been good friends For years! If you're wanting to be properly trained by somebody who is qualified to do so then this is your one stop shop. YOU WONT REGRET IT! read more

I've been coming here for a few months now and it's been great. I almost feel bad for leaving a review since I typically don't have any issue at all with getting a lane. Although I don't want that to change, I want these guys to have a lot of success as a local busines. All guns are only $10 to rent (you'll need to bring a friend if you don't bring your own firearm). There is quite a selection of firearms and even though I've rented quite a few already, I'm nowhere near close to having tried all of them. They do also have their own ammo but I think because of the shortage it might be best to try to bring your own. I was able to get 50ct of 9mm for like $30. The range fee is only around $12 and targets I believe were a buck and some change. All of the staff I've interacted with have been really nice, professional, informative, and helpful. I have absolutely nothing but praise for them. I came in as a novice and unfortunately, I'm still a novice, but I can get pretty lucky hitting the center of a target now. Joking aside, the staff took the time to help me with my stance, posture, grip, trigger control, and more. I'm definitely a much more competent shooter now than I was before coming to this range. They also hold CCW and other classes here but I've yet to take them. I'll definitely be signing up for at least a few as I intend to make this my regular range. read more
