S&W 1911 and Jericho 941 aka Baby Eagle out for the first time!
    Michael T.

Indoor ranges are nice, but there's something awesome about the feeling of shooting outdoors. In Nevada we're fortunate to have sooooo much BLM land available to enjoy, and plenty of it is well outside of congested areas where shooting is permitted. All you have to do is hop in the truck, head a little ways out of town, set up your targets and it's go time. But each time I did that, I'd always worry about the safety factor, both for myself and those at the end of the bullets path. All it takes is a ricochet at the wrong angle and it's game over. Not cool. Fortunately, we've got this beautiful outdoor shooting facility out near Pyramid Lake to call our own. The range is controlled by two friendly range masters who insure that everyone is kept safe at all times. For $8, you can rent a lane for the afternoon, $.50-$1 gets you a target, tape and stand to put it on, and for $2 bucks more you can rent a spotting scope to see where you're hitting. Bring your own gun(s) and ammo, and you're all set. This range is setup for handguns and rifles. For the rifles, they've got targets out to 1,000 yards and beyond! You can set a target of your own, or with the right rifle, shoot for the steel targets and listen for the hits! They've also got another range that is used for drills and classes put on by private companies. Even though it's kind of far, and I could just roll out into the hills, I really enjoy coming here to shoot. It's safe, controlled, and appropriately managed. It could use more support, so if you've never gone, go!

I've been on shooting ranges a time or two. I've worked on them as an Instructor too, not to toot my own horn. So, all being said, I've got a better understanding than many of how a range like this one should be operated, and two thumbs up to the folks that built, maintain, manage and volunteer to work to ensure the safety (number one mission!) and overall positive live fire experience is the outcome. I've been here about 5 times. Each visit was relaxed, the staff and facility are darn nice, and I find it relaxing to shoot a few rounds of ammo. It's really nice that this range is available since I dont want the liability of starting a brush fire out in the desert....lol.

    Range qualification yesterday
    Michael M.

There's a reason most law enforcement agencies come here for their range training. We had our last qualification yesterday and I'm always excited to sling some lead at this range. They have everything anyone could want at one location, small arms ranges, long range ranges with gongs at marked distances, etc. The only downside to this range is also it's upside; it's outdoors. The wind out there is sometimes intense and unwelcoming but it's nice to be outside in the great outdoors as well. Make sure you drop by this range and get a taste of outdoor shooting at a safe facility where law enforcement personnel call home as well!

    The range, shooters perspective.

Professionally operated. A very safe range with plenty of shooting stations. A very good facility for long distance shooting.

Man I wish they had some space heaters hanging overhead in their outdoor ranges. My hands! LOL The service is straight forward. From stopping in, signing a waiver, picking up some rental items like ear or eye protection--it's all tremendously affordable and under $20. This alone offers a tremendous value. In terms of a selection per se, you can sign up for a membership which ranges from $30-$40 a month depending on the plan or you can go for a single day visit. Adults about $15. From there it's all about the training. From as little as 3 yards to as much as 2000, go for it. Pistols, shotguns, ARs, bring it. They also have some firearms you can rent while you're there at an affordable price (but there's a range fee required when using their firearms). It's a bit of a journey out to head out to Pyramid Way where they're located, but you should consider the journey and training there if you're serious about firearm training and understanding these tools in a wonderful outdoor setting that puts you in the mentality of growing your skill and proficiency. Shout out to Dean who was our Range Safety Officer that day. He was courteous, professional and that's what you want when working with firearms. Check them out!

I was pretty nervous about handling and shooting the firearms at first, but the staff there ensured safety by going over their rules and procedures. After being taught how to properly handle the guns, we started shooting different handguns at the paper targets. After feeling comfortable and confident with those, we moved on to using some bigger assault rifles and even got to try out their gatlan gun. When looking for a shooting range in the Reno area, this is exactly what I was hoping for. The outdoor experience is was nicer and more fun in my opinion. The staff here was great at knowing when to help out and when to give you space and let you figure things out on your own. I would 100% recommend this place and will be coming back here the next time i'm in Reno. I would suggest this as one of the safest shooting ranges and perfect for beginners. This range also has a bunch of far out metal targets that are for people that are more advanced. 10 Stars if I could

Nestled amongst the mountains just outside of Carson City proper you're surrounded by Nevada's natural beauty out here, which is a great way to start. The rifle range was great with target stands available and settings at 50 yard increments. They offer seated and prone lanes as well, which is great depending on what you're training. The pistol range has targets at closer increments as well with large tables to set up on, allowing you to spread out and prepare multiple weapons at once. Though we didn't use it, they also have a range with private bays that you can use to train up close, 3-gun etc. Nice to know they have that option!
