He keeps the class sizes small and is efficient with time management as well as being incredibly knowledgeable with answering all the questions asked. A couple ladies came from Carson and mentioned at the end of the day they were so thankful for his class because they took a couple firearms training classes in their area and had not such good instructor experiences. And I'll have to say, John was pretty thorough during the sit-down portion of the class and by the time we were done with the range- everyone was really happy with the whole day! Main reason I do business with him though is that he is a first rate human being and all around good guy. He is a fellow veteran. He goes out of his way to help on everything I have asked for help on. I recommend him whole-heartedly, he is one of the best businesses I have ever worked with.

Since the business is a home-based FFL it's a little bit out of the way from Reno, but the process of buying a gun was simple and straightforward and worth the drive. Mike even went to the trouble of meeting me in town to finish a sale since we had to wait until the next day for a NICS background check. If you ever have any questions or want to check out some firearms, I would strongly recommend using Big Valley for your purchases. Helping out your local small business is always a much better option than going to big box stores like Cabela's or Sportsman's, and Mike does a pretty darn good job at matching even some of the best prices out there. You can often catch him at the local gun shows as well if you're ever curious about what he has available without having to drive to him. Keep an eye out for Big Valley any time you're thinking about buying a firearms. Thanks, Mike!

Great gun store and even better range; best in Northern Nevada!…read more The service is fantastic. They are patient and really go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and that you understand safety and what you're doing and make everything really easy. When you get there you complete your registration and rent a lane. Then you can either use your own firearm, eye and ear protection, and ammunition or you can rent or purchase everything. You can rent handguns and various semi-auto rifles for a flat rate plus ammunition, or you can rent automatics or belt fed machine guns by buying magazines or belts, no flat rental rate required. It can all add up pretty quickly but overall the rates and prices are reasonable. I had a great time, my favorite was firing the Thompson submachine gun on full auto, and will definitely be back for the M1!

She has always been afraid of guns and came out of this range wanting to learn more! Alex and the staff were very helpful on recommending a beginner gun and how to reload. They were very patient on answering any questions and super informative on how a gun works. We started off with a rifle and had such a blast that we purposely made a detour and came back the next day to shoot a glock. I've been to other ranges before, but this was the best range to bring a beginner to. This is now my favorite place to go to whenever I'm in Reno. It was worth driving from San Francisco to this!

As…read moresome of the material having to do with concealed carry can be a bit dry it makes the time go by quickly. He still kept it serious where needed as this is a serious subject. He got through the material and kept us on schedule and as a busy person I appreciated that a lot. Would recommend him unreservedly. The one minor negative (which is really not anyone's fault in fairness) was because of the classroom being above the shooting range ( a good thing as you get to do your qualifying shoot straightaway without having to change locations) it was a little hard to hear the presentation at times from the noise below. As I said, it was only a minor negative as Gary was very skilled to pause as needed if he was making an important point and it got too loud. The fee for the course was also quite fair and a good value as I looked at other offerings for double + the $'s !
