I wish I could give Arlington Diner a higher rating. I used to come here with my grandparents so it holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, it just isn't anything special anymore. We stopped in for dinner and it wasn't crowded at all. The staff member clearing tables was attentive and quickly took our plates when we were finished but the overall atmosphere felt a little gloomy and somewhat unkempt. I ordered the chicken gyro which came with a cup of soup and fries. I chose the chicken vegetable soup and it was actually quite good. No complaints there. The gyro itself was generously filled but fairly average. The tzatziki was much thicker than I'm used to though it tasted fine. The fries were disappointing, although my husband pointed out that the ketchup may have been what threw off the flavor...I think he could be right. My husband ordered the BBQ brisket burger, and he said it tasted exactly how you'd expect a typical diner burger to taste. One thing we didn't like was that fries cost extra. In my opinion, they should be included with a burger. Overall, I'd recommend sticking to breakfast at Arlington Diner. That's where this place has always been at its best. read more

Eileen was hilarious and such a fun waitress! This was my first time here and I will definitely be back. We were seated within seconds of arriving even though they were busy. The seating was more than spacious enough for three! Once we ordered, the food came out quickly. The coffee tasted so good! They also came around frequently to refill, so I didn't need to even ask. A very popular diner due to the "vintage and classic" look it has on the outside. The signature neon sign is known to all (and has been featured in some films). The food? Well. First of all, I expect all diners to have decent breakfast items (pancakes, BEC, THEG), sandwiches and burgers, and fried appetizers (disco fries, mozz sticks). This is the bare minimum. Some diners that have higher reviews I feel safe to order some "off brand" items like Italian pasta dishes, salads, seafood. When I walked in, I could tell by the vibes that I needed to stick with the basic menu items. I ordered the classic tuna melt - came on rye and included fries. I upgraded to sweet potato. The fries were decent and were the nice "eczema fries" - meaning they have that nice crispy outer layer to them. I would have liked them thinner. The tuna melt was just wrong. It was an open face melt, but barely toasted up and was cold in some areas. They also put a crazy amount of tuna salad - to the point that it would slop off. The quality of the tomatoes on the sandwich was questionable. Just really unpleasant to eat. I expected this diner to nail an easy tuna melt, but it was wrong wrong wrong. read more

This may sound like a small thing, but after having eaten at six diners over the week we were in Jersey (they don't have diners where we live) this was the only one that actually listened when I asked for crispy french fries, they were the best. I live a couple of blocks away stopped in for some breakfast on a beautiful Sunday morning. Front staff and waitress is super warm and friendly. Offered some coffee as soon as we sat down and gave us ample time to check out the menu. Food came out fast, which was good because we were starving. Taylor ham, egg, and cheese and breakfast sampler was decent. Nothing remarkable, and same about the coffee but the friendly staff made it worthwhile. You'll find all typical diner fare here. First, I want to say that the waitress Stephanie was outstanding. The service was great. They also give you a lot of food. However, that is where the good ends. The food was over cooked. I asked for a burger medium and it was well done. Not a trace of pink. And it was the driest burger I've ever eaten. The manager in duty , Nick, was horrible. I had a special and asked that a they not put a topping that was included in the special - egg - on the burger. He refused to omit the egg. I said I wasn't trying to ask for a cheaper price and it would have benefited them because I would be paying the same price but actually would have received less. They would have saved an egg. Oh, geez.  Me and this diner go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back.      As a kid I'd come here with my pops for breakfast and loved "borrowing" quarters from him to play the same damn songs on the jukebox every visit.  Teens to 20's - entirely too many visits at ungodly hours (being the opposite of sober, of course) wolfing down entire platters of food and stumbling home to immediately pass out.  (I lost count at how many rumbles and ill-fated 'romances' I witnessed here when it was a stampede of people coming from all the local clubs and bars.)  And here we are.  In the present.  Me bringing my own kids here to grab a bite to eat and share some of the insane memories I've made here back in the day.  (They put up with my tales since I'm the one footing the bill and letting them get disco fries and ridiculously enormous "crazy shakes".)  The changes I've noticed after not coming for at least a decade? The main counter has moved to the center. They now have a liquor license. The workers wear matching t-shirts (I dig that clean and simple design, by the way).  As for the food... exactly what you'd expect from a Jersey diner.  They can't really hang with the likes of Tops or The Allwood or Pompton Queen but Arlington can knock out the classics (gyros, waffles, burgers) with ease. Is it worth putting serious miles on your car to come here?  Nah. Went to the Arlington Diner a couple of days ago and it was great. I ordered pancakes and bacon and the quality was great. Service came out fast and servers were super friendly. We also liked the look and architecture of the diner. Coming from South Jersey, I haven't been to a diner like that before. We also noticed the cheesecakes on display and they looked really good. The place was very clean and well kept. The pancakes I got were fluffy and not much to complain about. The things my friends got looked really good as well and everyone at the table was satisfied with their service. Arlington Diner has been a staple to the community for as long as I can remember. They have been closed due to the fact that Northern NJ has been hit hard by the pandemic but this weekend they have been punching out nothing but cheesecakes the whole weekend!! I read that beginning on May 11th they are back to take out. Usually, their cheesecake is reserved for when my junior football team wins a game. Obviously this weekend is equally special being mother's day. You can go small or large; plain, with strawberries, blueberries or cherries. I went with the traditional strawberries. Everything is baked on site. Strawberries were SOOOO fresh and good. It was creamy and you can tell it was just made. In normal times, they go through their cheesecakes hand over foot, so it's always on point. Last night, the fork just glided right through it like a searing knife through butter. The dipass at the door turned us away a full 20 minutes before the posted closing time. and the food was never great to begin with. Have been going to this diner for years and never had an issue until recently with my last two visits. My issues are only with certain waitresses. On my last visit we were seated in back room and our waitress Christina was too busy chitchatting with other staff members by the soda/coffee station and also in the kitchen. When we wanted to order more toast and drinks we had an extended wait time bc she would have her back towards us and was too busy talking to other staff members. We then waited almost twenty minutes for our check and that was after we asked another waitress if she could find our waitress and tell her we wanted our check. The time before this it was other waitress forgetting to bring certain condiments to our table bc again she was also to busy chitchatting away. This won't stop me from visiting again but I will know not to be seated in these two waitresses tables read more

It's only getting one star for the terrific waitress. Shame on the Manager. After 4 bites of a grilled chicken Greek salad, my daughter returned because she felt the feta cheese was bad. It tasted off, like spoiled milk. The Manager took $7.50 off a $22 salad, instead of taking the whole salad off the check. And what was worse, I had to be wrong because he had the feta cheese earlier and could care less about what I had to say. Never again will I go to the Arlington Diner! NEVER!!!!! read more

We came to this diner on a Friday evening and were seated right away. There are two sides of parking lots . Our server was so friendly she took our orders and helped us with some menu items. Our dishes were really good, the steak was a bit dry. The milkshake was good! And my nieces approved of their desserts! We will definitely return for breakfast! read more

Three of us went yo have breakfast. One family Members breakfast platter came looking very nice. Another breakfast sandwich came z d was done up nicely, and then my blueberry muffin cameasked for it to be sliced in thirds and toasted on the griddled with butter lightly! Well it came burnt! The waitress even said if this too dark I will make another! Dark no burnt! How does one even go to serve such an item especially if it was not ordered burnt. Besides it wasn't sliced like I asked! So I waited while everyone else was enjoying their breakfast, and was almost finished. Replacement came, wasn't even toasted so I just asked to take it with me! Threw it out when I left. Ooof our waitress was too rude, a lot of eye rolling for a rainy Sunday afternoon. I got a veggie panini which was really good, I appreciated the variety of veggies and onion rings. We also got the chicken soup, disco fries (and yes you can ask for waffle fries), turkey club, a waffle and carrot cake. The cake was mostly frosting and only a portion of the frosting was cream cheese flavored. I think the veggie panini and the disco fries were the winner of the meal. Once a staple of NJ lore, the classic NJ diner is no more - high prices, limited hours (no more 24 hr spots) and a perplexing decline in quality. Arlington diner resembles a classic NJ diner, with its retro external facade, classic booth seating, and expansive menu. But the prices are shocking ($15+ for most appetizers, including wings; I think i saw a few speciality milkshakes for $14??) The food quality is abysmal - a few weeks ago my mom made the mistake of ordering a pasta, which was terrible. More recently I figured ordering a buffalo chicken wrap would be better - but alas it too was not good. The icing on the cake was the side order of disco fries (+$2.50), complete with a couple of half melted slices of Kraft singles on top. Hard pass. If this is the only place open after 11pm I'd say skip it and go to bed hungry. read more

I loved the food here! Huge portions and the fries were so on point - crispy on the outside and fresh out of the fryer hot. My husband and I came for lunch with my 8 month old around 3pm and the food came out very quickly. Our waitress was friendly, super sweet and attentive and my daughter loved her. I'm type 1 diabetic and had a very low blood sugar and she rushed to bring my OJ out immediately - literally seconds after I ordered it. I ordered the mesquite bbq burger medium well and it actually came out medium well (too many places overcook it)! Also had an egg cream that was delicious. My husband had the lumberjack breakfast and said it was good but he had ordered the eggs over medium and they came out over easy instead. He also said he just wished it came with toast but it wasn't a big deal. Atmosphere: The Arlington Diner has one of the best atmospheres of any NJ diner. The exterior has all chrome with a huge: "Arlington Diner" sign. The inside is everything you expect in a diner; there are plenty of booths, tables, a full-length bar and even several jukeboxes at various tables. Coffee: The coffee at the Arlington Diner was good. The waitress brought out a few refills and it tasted good. Food: The Arlington Diner menu has everything you picture in a diner. There are all plenty of breakfast, lunch and dinner specials. Plus there are several pages of salads and healthier options too. I decided to split the Greek Sampler platter with the table and it was something. The greek platter came with olives, tomatoes, onions, feta cheese, anchovies, and pita bread. It felt as though the cook just slapped some things together, and added hunks of feta cheese. It was okay, not great and I wouldn't order it again. I was craving a salad and decided to order the grilled mushroom salad with salmon. The grilled mushroom salad came with portabella mushrooms, mixed greens, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes. After the Greek Sampler platter, it wasn't sure what to expect, but the salad was good. It was actually one of the better diner salads I've had recently. Service: The waitress at the Arlington Diner seemed as though she wasn't having the best day and she was ready to leave. Our food came out relatively fast, but it wasn't the best diner service I've received. Cost: $$ The Arlington Diner is expensive. For the salad, Greek Sampler, and coffee, it was $30. The Greek Sampler alone was $11, which was expensive for the amount of food and quality of food. Would I Come Back? I liked my salad at the Arlington Diner and I thought that component of the meal was decent. Did I think it was one of the best NJ diners? Overpriced Menu & Terrible Service I really hate to give a negative review but it has to be said. I gave 1 star, because the diner appeared to be clean; although I didn't check the rest room. My mom, my 2 kids and I went to Arlington Diner tonight for dinner. It was 5-5:30 and the parking lot was almost empty at dinner time. Not only was the menu ridiculously overpriced but the food on the menu was lacking. They nickel and dime you for everything on that menu and the food isn't cheap or even moderately priced. Almost nothing comes with fries anymore, you have to pay extra for fries. Then 1.50 if you want coleslaw and a pickle?? Those are traditional sides at diners, they should just put "served upon request" on the menu if they don't want to give it out and have it wasted! I couldn't find one of my diner favorites on the menu, a ham and Swiss triple decker with lettuce and tomato and a side of fries (which used to be on the old menu). They didn't have it and couldn't make it. They had a boiled ham sandwich but there was nothing on it. There was a Taylor Ham sandwich with potato on it. What Jersey diner adds potato to a Taylor Ham sandwich? I find that suspicious! I Just had a cheeseburger deluxe. My mom had a Pastrami sandwich, my daughter ordered an appetizer of Mozzarella sticks to have AS HER DINNER and my son ordered a Cheeseburger from the kids menu, which comes with a drink (soda milk or juice- he picked soda), fries and a scoop of ice cream, jello or pudding. My mom, daughter and I ordered a soda. They brought out the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer even though the waitress knew that my daughter had ordered it as her dinner. So she would not be eating with us. Meanwhile there are 2 kids running rampid around the diner. They were jumping on the booths and touching things on the table and the jute box, playing on stools at the counter. I don't know who these kids belonged to. There was only our party and one other in the booth side of the diner and they didn't belong to the other party. Staff never said anything to the kids. The kids acted like they owned the joint. My cheeseburger and fries were good. My mom's pastrami was not as expected, my son liked his cheeseburger. We went through the whole dinner with empty glasses because the waitress didn't once stop by our table to see if we needed anything or refills. We almost thought refills weren't included and had to ask. We finally got our refill after we ate dinner. We had to ask for my son's scoop of ice cream otherwise they weren't bringing it up. The waitress didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. Anyway, we get the bill, looked it over and couldn't believe the prices again and the bill was $85 dollars. My mom left the tip on the table and went up to the desk to pay. The man looks at the bill and says "You aren't going to leave a tip?" My mom says, "I did, it's on the table" and he gave her a weird look. What was he trying to do, take her tip?? I think they are new owners and they just don't get the whole diner thing. Then when we got home, we realized they charged us 3.35 for my son's soda which was supposed to come with the kids meal. We will never be going back to this diner. Our whole experience was disappointing...and now we know why this diner was empty! read more
