Urban Organic Gardens. They are hiding everywhere. You just have to keep your eyes open…read more I stumbled on this wonderful little patch of heaven while I was on the "Arcadia 9th Edible Garden Tour." It was one of the scheduled stops on the garden map. I had no idea what a treat we were in for as we pulled up to what appeared to be an ordinary one-story quiet neighborhood house. Getting out of the car we realized that this was no ordinary front yard. Yes, it had a small wooden rail fence around it. But behind that fence there was no traditional landscaping, no hedges, no grass, no manicured flower beds. There were rows of beans and corn and tomatoes and peppers! As we walked through the carport to the back, we entered a delightful sun room filled with baskets of fresh produce - all freshly picked and, of course, for sale. (Yep, I bought a few small fresh green items to supplement my salad already in the refrigerator at home.) The back yard was more of a delight than the front. Raised beds. Veggies and flowers. And, yes, there was some grass . . . . but most of all it was a miniature oasis of a farm from my childhood. There were chickens and goats, who all seemed somewhat nonchalant about city dwellers stumbling through their little bit of heaven. My Farmyard is a delightful example of what you can do to "grow locally. produce organically. [&] eat well." One of the services they will help you with is planning your own raised bed garden in your yard. They will help you create a "Planting Plan." Oh, I didn't tell you the best part. If you don't want to convert your yard to a veggie garden, you can sign up for weekly Urban Farm Produce Baskets. Freshly picked seasonal veggies and fruits delivered once a week. They even have half shares that are perfect for 1 person. And extra large shares for families or vegetarians. No more been in the store too long and came from who knows where. These veggies and fruits are grown in your own back yard - or in My Farmyard's front yard! Call and go visit your local urban organic farmer. He/she lives on a wonderful little patch of heaven right here in our city!

Both had spent a few hundred dollars to help ensure their gardens were successful. I, on the other hand, was told it would be a $2k minimum just to plant the vegetables (that's with me creating the beds and doing the irrigation on my own)...and that it could be as much as up to $5k. The reason for the price discrepancy? "My location". I'm certain that's not the true reason as I don't live that far away (Chandler) It was either A) not profitable enough for them with the small job I required or B) related to my last name. Regardless, I recommend others take their business elsewhere.

Wanting to try another of their restaurants before the ungodly heat arrived, we decided to stop in for lunch. Parking: can be a bit nerve wracking, especially parking in the dirt lots east of the place. You have to walk across 32nd St & if you know Phoenix drivers, this can be dangerous. There is a pedestrian light now, though, so that helps -- but oddly enough, there's no "walk" signage. It's merely a blinking yellow light for north- sound-bound traffic so you have to pray to the universe drivers are paying attention & actually stop for you. Ordering: a bit odd. The main door we went in was more the middle door that didn't really take you to the beginning. There's a drink station then the food station. We skedaddled to the right of the main doors for the drink order, only to discover there's another door that people walk through to place orders. So we joggled w/ another customer trying to figure out who was there first. It honestly felt like a school cafeteria, a bit chaotic, as well as cramped. The patio was pretty large & well shaded, but it was also full -- and this particular day also the ONLY SHADE. We were left to sit at one of their many tables on the grounds with no shade. Food: not worth the $77 we paid. I get it's a working farm, & though we try to support local as much as possible, the food we ordered was not good enough that we will stop by again. The strawberry fields salad was a typical salad, no wow factor there. The Italian sammy was dry. There was a minuscule amount of some kind of dressing on it, but def not enough. Dessert: red velvet whoopie pie was so overpriced it's not funny. If it tasted great, I wouldn't complain...it did not taste great. The pecan pie was abysmal; not enough filling and very bland. Two "specialty" drinks, a salad, a sandwich, & two small desserts, for $77? No, sorry, not again.

The staff were very nice and they had a nice variety of different things. ***UPDATE: It gets…read moreeven worse. After being stonewalled for days regarding my paid CSA pickup, I called again today. A woman at the farm attempted to aggressively gaslight me, screamed over me while I was trying to speak, refused to issue a refund for services not rendered, and arbitrarily canceled my active subscription without my consent. To top it off, right before hanging up on me, I heard her laughing to her coworker in the background saying, "I'm not talking to her!" That tells you everything you need to know about the maturity level and character of the trashy people running this place. I am officially reporting this business to the BBB and filing a chargeback with my bank. If you are considering subscribing to this CSA, save yourself the money, the headache, and the wasted gas. *********************************************************** If you are considering subscribing to this CSA, save yourself the money, the headache, and the wasted gas. Blue Sky Organic Farms loves to lean into the warm, fuzzy narrative of "local farm" and "community-supported agriculture," but their actual operation is a complete joke. What good is supporting local if the Folx running it don't actually know how to be in community? Over the course of trying to get basic information regarding my weekly pickup, I reached out through every single channel provided: the designated CSA line, the farm store number, Instagram, and even their restaurant/wholesale line (which, embarrassingly, is a dead line). Not a single person answered. To make matters worse, when messages did go through, I was repeatedly left on read. A few weeks ago, I had to waste an hour of my day driving 40 minutes out of my way to the physical store just to get basic questions answered because their customer service department is utterly non-existent (a fact that even their own front-desk worker acknowledged with total confusion and annoyance). Taking people's money and then stonewalling them when they ask simple, necessary questions about the service they paid for is negligent, amateurish, and fundamentally disrespectful. They should be thoroughly ashamed of how makeshift, disorganized, and dismissive this entire operation is. Do not fall for the "support local" marketing--these people do not care about community, and they certainly don't care about their customers. Go to WINCO!

If you are not familiar with a CSA and how it work, here's a down and dirty explanation. You pay a certain amount of money in advance for several months of veggies each week. In this case, Maya's farm charges about $300 for 12 weeks of a whole heck of a lot of veggies that are certified organic. You support your local farmers and you know where your food is coming from. I recommend that you swing by the farm and take a stroll around. You might see Maya. I've met her and I think she's a very nice person. I will update this review with more info but I think the pictures that I post of Maya's Farm CSA speak for themselves. My only wishlist with Maya's farm is to have a half-basket. My small family and I can't finish all the veggies in one week.

You can also try their different milk flavors and my kiddo wanted to try the banana milk which he loved and it tasted like banana taffy to him. My kiddo played on their dairy truck, which had a variety of little toys inside. We sat at one of the tables enjoying our treats. Inside the dairy refrigerator, there are many types of milks. Also, there was a variety of juices like lemonade, strawberry lemonade, orange juice, limeade, cherry limeade. Keep in mind that a two dollar deposit is required for each bottle that is purchased however, you can return those bottles at any location that sells Danzeisen. (Danzeisen, Safeway, frys, Whole Foods, sprouts, etc.) What a cute spot to check out while we were on this side of town! The highlight would definitely be the variety of ice creams and shakes offered!
