I'm going to preface this review with the following: play stupid games, win stupid prizes. One of the prizes of needing a service like the one this company provides is having to do business with somewhat shady orgs.
Overall, I got through the necessary 6 months that was required by the MVD to be granted a deferment of the remaining 6 months that was left on my IID restriction. But it wasn't without stress, peril, or frustration with this company.
The first incident I experienced happened to be the day I was driving to get my unit calibrated for the first time (just under 30 days post-install). Provided a breath sample to get the car to start, no issue. My first rolling re-test came back with a fail. Being 100% sober since the night my arrest I found this to be EXTREMELY odd and alarming. After pulling over I provided another test as required which passed. I followed up with the company as advised a few days later to learn the specifics of the failed test. According to them, it registered a .058! When I asked what the test a few minutes after read? "0.00". When I asked what the test read for the start of the car 5-8 min before the fail? "0.00". When I asked how they can possibly square sequence of readings, they suggested I make an appointment to come back in to have the unit inspected, which I did without hesitation.
When I came back in for the 2nd appointment for diagnostics (burning my time...), they inspected the hand unit. While they didn't give me any final determination, they did swap out it out for a "new" one and refunded the $35 they charged for the "failed" test. I'm not sure if letting it be known that if their equipment can't be reliable I'll have them remove it and go elsewhere provided motivation or not but the outcome was sufficient (for the time being...).
About a week later, same exact thing! Start the car, zeros. First re-test: almost the exact same reading (.059). Second re-test: zeros. I called and had to do the same dance. This time, instead of swapping the hand unit, they swapped the cable that the unit plugs into. Seemed like a head-scratcher to me (how can a cable make the unit register a false-positive reading, and a high one at that?!?), but that was the last false-positive I had.
While the world is an imperfect place, having to worry about a piece of equipment I'm paying for making bad readings (and not by a small amount!) is an added stress that people shouldn't have to deal with. While I have ZERO evidence, it does make you question if everything is on the up and up, or if there's something not quite right going on. Every time you "fail" a test the company docks you $35 automatically. It's just a little weird that I've been sober as a judge for an extended period of time and registered zero alcohol minutes before and after significant "failed" tests.
Fast forward to my 6-month license reinstatement date. I obtain my deferral letter from the MVD and head to the AZI office to get my unit uninstalled. When paying the $75 fee I mentioned to the shop boss John that my latest monthly fee was charged 2 days ago. I asked about the remaining 27/28 day balance and when I could expect a refund. He stated he would contact his boss and, I'm paraphrasing, I should be able to be issued the money back for the remaining days of month since the unit has been uninstalled. Paying for service after that wouldn't make sense. After getting home I also filled out a refund request on their website. 3 weeks to the day after not seeing a refund or response from the company I called to check on the status. The rep who answered stated that normally the remaining balance "goes towards the final report that's submitted to the MVD". When I asked how much that fee is he couldn't tell me. I then asked if it would matter if I had 2 days or 27 days left on the month's fees. He stated "no". (I also asked his "boss" to contact me, which he never happened (no surprise)). Well, if that's the case, they are obviously screwing people out of their money and attempting to get away with it.
Like I said at the beginning: PSG, WSP. But making a mistake in life doesn't make it OK for this company to pray on the vulnerable and STEAL money. I put in a dispute with my credit card company for what should be the refundable balance. What's right is right and no one should have to pay for service that isn't being provided. Today, after about a 1.5 month investigation, the dispute has been finalized in my favor and my account was permanently credited. AZI didn't even bother responding to the dispute.
Normally I'd give 1 star for this kind of review but I have a feeling that if you're in the market for their services there are probably a lot of worse options out there. Post-install they weren't the easiest to get a hold of (i.e. at times I had to reach out to Jackie in the billing department for tech support, multiple times I left voicemails that never got returned, etc.). Just make sure to stay vigilant no matter where you go read more
