I am in need of a surgery. The first time I came here was at 8:10am a couple days ago. I figured I would just walk in and make an appointment since it's literally right across the street from my neighborhood. There was a lady outside who I asked what time they opened and she said 8:00. So I came in and the lady from outside was now behind the counter. I believe her name was Cece. I asked if I could make an appointment for a surgery evaluation, and she said, "oh we don't make appointments in person, you have to call" I feel like she was either having a bad morning and I thought she was kinda rude so I just left. I went and got in my car and contemplated calling for an appointment or just finding a different spot because of the treatment I received. But all of a sudden, there she was standing at my passenger door telling me she could get me an appointment. Her entire attitude had changed and she became much more pleasant. She said the person that normally sets appointments was not there yet but she wanted to get me taken care of anyway. I don't know if the correct person wasn't there or if Cece WAS the correct person, and quite honestly, I didn't and I don't care. The fact that she did a course correction and changed up her entire demeanor to be very nice and friendly was amazing in my opinion and I appreciated it. She took what could have been a bad day and turned it into a great one. So far this has been my interaction here but I have my appointment today (why I checked in, lol) so I will let you know how it goes from here. read more

After 17 calls staff unable to book colonoscopy. Staff doesn't return calls. MD has stated seriousness of needed surgery but staff ignores calls to schedule tests. If my condition becomes serious will they bother than to help? It's best to have reliable communication. We will go elsewhere for help, as MD cannot assure us help when needed. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for 4pm and was not see until 4:50pm, when they close at 5pm. There were no other patients there when I went to see where the doctor was, so I was confused as to why it took so long. When I was finally seen, the doctor was only with me for about five minutes and gave me no medical advice, except when asked if I should get the lump on my side removed he said "I get paid regardless if you want it removed so that's up to you". Very unprofessional and inconsiderate, especially when it comes to one's health concerns/issues. Would not recommend going here. read more

I called Dr Cortesi's office and asked for a records review as mu cancer has returned and I wanted to become a patient. After 10 days, no updates, nothing has been reviewed. THEY DON'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE WITH A CANCER RECURRENCE. The office staff has a very flip attitude about the whole situation. I found another surgeon. Reception isn't super friendly and one of those places where you fill out the paper, tell a person, repeat the same thing that's on the paper that you told the person to another person. Appointment was pretty close to on time so that was nice as well as that seems to be an issue for some doctors. Not a fan of the repeating things multiple times but it seems common at a lot of Drs. Dr. Masur was great, I was pretty grouchy about having to be there (I super hate in person dr appointments and I go to lots of dr appointments because I have multiple issues) but I left in better spirits and with a plan that was very well explained and made sense (not what I wanted lol but did make sense). read more

From the receptionist to Dr. Rita Hadley ... Nope! The receptionist said she'd be right with me. I stood there while she looked down at the desk. She was not writing anything. She was side eyeing the other receptionist to her left listening to her training a new employee. After a few minutes, she said, "OK, what do you need?" Don't know about anyone else, I had to take a really deep breath! I waited 15 minutes past my scheduled time. I am sure if roles were reversed and I had been 15 minutes late for appointment, they would have turned me away! OUR time is just as precious! Dr. Masur is FANTASTIC. My husband had a failed hernia repair early in the year with a different surgeon at a different facility. That surgeon was recommending a second procedure we weren't sure we were comfortable with, so we got referred to Dr. Masur for a second opinion in early August by our PCP. Dr. Masur allowed me to be in the room during the exam and spent an entire hour with us explaining the procedure he wanted to use and answered ALL of our questions. He was very kind and encouraged us to keep getting opinions if that is what we needed to do, but was confident in his plan of how he would handle the situation. We were given his business card as well as 2 cards for surgery schedulers if we were to decide to go with this facility. A week later my husband called a scheduler named Olivia, however, she was away from her desk. He then called the other scheduler, Vicki. Vicki offered a couple of different Tuesdays in October. My husband explained that unfortunately, the entire month of October was not an option, but he could clear time in August, September, or November. She was insistent on October. He had to tell her several times that October would absolutely NOT work due to job demands. He also explained that if possible, he was trying to secure a Friday surgery date so that he would have the weekend to recover before going back to work. Vicki stated the doctor typically did surgeries on Tuesday and that she wasn't sure if he would have the equipment needed for his surgery on a Friday but that she would check with him. My husband thanked her and gave her a list of 7 or 8 Fridays that worked on our end. She stated she would call my husband back after talking to the doctor to find out if any of those dates were available. Two weeks went by and we never heard back. My husband then (accidentally) called Olivia's number, (who didn't answer), and left a voicemail message explaining that he had previously spoken to Vicki and asked that someone return his call. Vicki called him back and sounded very annoyed. She apparently had no recollection of their phone call two weeks earlier, had no notes on their discussion, and had not asked the doctor about any of the Friday dates. She was totally rude and still demanding he schedule the surgery for October (which he told her AGAIN, was not possible). She then claimed there were no more dates available for August or September, and that she did not have the November schedule yet but had him down for a specific date in November even though we didn't ask for that date??? Totally incompetent, unprofessional, inept, and unempathetic behavior towards a patient about to be put under the knife. Eventually the surgery was scheduled, and Dr. Masur was GREAT.--Way above and beyond 5 stars, (and his nurses are wonderful as well) but the rest of the office staff is terrible which is too bad as that reflects poorly on him. The schedulers as well as the receptionists who checked us in on our pre and post visits were NOT friendly at all. Otherwise this would be a 5+ star review. On a side note (this likely deserves a separate Yelp review), Dr. Masur did the surgery at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, and the staff was so amazing compared to our first go with this procedure at a different hospital in the southeast Valley. From check in to check out, everyone we encountered at HonorHealth was so kind! It was a completely different experience from earlier in the year with a different surgeon and different facility. We are so thankful we found Dr. Masur! He was also very thorough with the follow up appointment after surgery, showing us pictures, drawing pictures, explaining everything, and answering all questions. I was diagnosed with several nodules on my thyroid and one was pushing on the trachea so I was told by my Endocrinologist that I would need to have either half of the thyroid or the full removal. Dr. Masur was so patient and kind. He was very knowledgeable about the procedure and gave my family and I different scenarios and helped me in deciding on the best approach for me. He told us about each and every step which would take place before and after the surgery. I have never had a doctor who was so patient and thoughtful he spent about 30 minutes with us. After having the surgery he was just as thoughtful and considerate with me and my family on following up. I would definately see him for any other surgeries needed. read more

I had my appointment with Dr. Susan Cortesi today to have a lipoma on my arm taken out. She had the best bed side manner, walked me through the entire process, and continually checked in with me to ensure I was comfortable. In today's world, it's easy to have medical providers not take the time to do what's necessary to make you feel comfortable and answer all your questions. It was clear I was her first priority. Not only is she fabulous as a human (you pick up on this within minutes of chatting with her), but she is clearly a top notch medical provider. I had a palm frond thorn a little over an inch long embedded in my leg, My pcp tried to remove and had no luck, he sent me to the ER , So I chose St. Lukes in Tempe, They did nothing and suggest I seek a general surgeon . So I looked around and found Advanced Surgical Associates. So glad I did , Surgeon Jennifer Reitz was GREAT , I am so glad she could do what an ER dept ( I use er dept very loosely here) I would recommend her to anyone I know needing this type of treatment. I was referred to Advanced Surgical Associates by my primary care physician, I had a small issue that became a big issue quickly and needed the care of a specialist. I needed to have a procedure done immediately and was honestly scared due bad previous experiences. Dr. Cortesi and her Medical Assistant Melissa took amazing care of me, better than I expected by far. Dr. Cortesi was incredibly skillful in the surgical aspect and Melissa went above and beyond, not only with immediate care but also helping my wife to fully understand how to properly take care of me afterward. I've bounced around from doctor to doctor and this was the first good experience I've had in a very long time, couldn't be happier with the care I received. Dr Testa did my breast reduction years back. My nipple is 1 inch higher on one side. The scars are horrible. R breast wasn't even cut so that the scar was low or under my breast. He cut so far back under my arm it goes to my back. Didn't even remove "dog ears" after surgery said it cost another $300. Usually the surgeon cuts them in office after surgery and it's included in price of surgery. I went to him twice afterwards and complained and he suggested other procedures to correct his mistakes. Of course I would have to pay out of pocket because my insurance wouldn't cover them.All the Drs I've shown the results too were very upset at what a horrible job he did. That was more than 5 years ago and they still looked totally botched. I cry when I look at them still. read more

Dr. Damore is a fantastic surgeon. A couple of years ago I had an emergency appendectomy which resulted in a huge vertical incision that required 26 staples. Well, moving forward 2 years and I developed an incisional hernia. I saw the original surgeon and he wanted to cut me open again. I made an appointment with Dr. Damore. I brought in a CD of my CT results and he advised that he could perform the hernia repair laparoscopically. I'm now 3 weeks post surgery and very happy with my results. Dr. Damore is a very knowledgeable regarding his craft. He also has a great bedside manner and took the time to listen to me. Shelly, his medical assistant is very easy to talk with and keeps him on schedule. The 2 of them working together are the complete package team that I look to regarding my medical care. read more

I was referred to Dr Testa by my dermatologist office after she told me that I had melanoma and she impressed upon me my how serious and life-threatening it is and that I needed Mohs surgery to have it taken care of right away. I immediately called his office to schedule an appointment and left a message. I received a call back three days later from his assistant who told me that they couldn't do my procedure because they don't take my insurance. When I asked about paying out-of-pocket she said that she didn't know anything about that, and reinforced they don't take my insurance and couldn't help me. No talk about someone else in the office I could talk to or how they would tell my dermatologist to find another surgeon, no suggestions about what I could do. I'm not sure why they would rather wait weeks or months to be paid by insurance, when I could pay them up front. Also, not sure why there is no compassion of empathy for someone who has a life-threatening condition. I suggest that Doctors or Medical offices that do not want to take life-threatening situations seriously should go through some self-questioning and self=examination. read more

If you are looking for an expert in plastic surgery, Alvaro Testa Jr., MD,FACS is an excellent choice. In March, 2021, Dr. Testa performed my abdominoplasty. My stomach was distended from a rough childbirth thirty years prior. I was herniated, completely bloated, and my diastasis was opened under my skin. I looked pregnant at the age of 67. When I saw Dr. Testa, I was embarrassed by my appearance, but it was no matter to him. He put me completely at ease, discussed my options, and I decided to put my faith in Dr. Testa. On the morning of the surgery, Dr. Testa came to my bedside and I asked him one more time, "do you think you can really help me?" He assured me, "yes." Once home, I followed all of his instructions to the letter. It is now December, 2021. My stomach is completely flat. I have lost close to twenty pounds and feel great! There are no "dog ears" on my hips. My scar has healed perfectly. I only recently stopped wearing a binder under my clothing to make doubly sure that my abdominal muscles were completely healed. It's the best thing I could have done for myself. I am cognizant of my movements now, more careful not to distend my abdominals getting in and out of bed and other activities. Dr. Testa's nurse, Angie, is knowledgeable, kind, understanding, and like right and left hand to Dr. Testa. When you leave her a message, know that she will return your call as soon as possible. She was very assuring to me with all of my questions. And oh my gosh, did I have questions! I believe I started off with a list of seventeen questions during my first meeting with Dr. Testa, all of which were patiently answered. After my surgery, Dr. Testa personally called my fiance and explained everything that went on. He again, patiently and expertly answered every question. Steve was very appreciative of Dr. Testa and still refers to his outstanding bedside manner, care of his patients, as something one does not always see these days. If you chose Dr. Alvaro Testa Jr., MD, FACS, know that you have chosen a brilliant doctor who is sensitive to your needs. You will be in expert care. Firstly, Dr. Damore was great. He listened, explained and gallbladder surgery went perfectly well. However, the "business" side of the practice did not perform as well and gets this rating. The surgery scheduler never contacted me to inform me that my surgery had changed to an earlier time and had to be rescheduled, resulting in a fair amount of inconvenience. Then about a month after my surgery the office manager called to inform me that an email had been sent to another patient which included my personal health information. Because of these two avoidable and violating oversights, I would not go back to this practice. read more

Dr. Buckmire is a rockstar. I had repeated bouts of diverticulitis and knew surgery was going to be inevitable. I was terrified. So I went in for a consult and he patiently answered all my questions and even handed me a tissue as I was so scared and emotional. He spent longer explaining things than any other physician I've seen. I decided on the surgery-still scared but he remained reassuring. Surgery went much better than I anticipated. Post surgery my pain was very controlled. He visited me in the hospital several times. The nurses like him as he is respectful toward them as well. When it came time for me to be discharged and things were being unnecessarily delayed, he was an advocate for me and took care of it promptly so I could go home, where I wanted to be. I had very little problems afterward and I am feeling better than I have for a few years. He is highly skilled, and with the bedside manner you want. My wife was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer and we were fortunate enough for her surgeries to be done Dr Haley. Dr Haley is extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and professional; other medical professionals (outside of the ASA office) we dealt with also voiced their strong trust and confidence in Dr Haley and his abilities. I could go on about the multiple positive contacts/visits we had with Dr Haley throughout my wife's treatment/care and how he took an extremely strong interest in all aspects of her pre-and-post surgery care, suffice it to say we feel extremely fortunate/blessed that we crossed paths with him as my wife (successfully) dealt with her cancer. I also would like to commend the back office/administrative staff at both the Mesa and Gilbert locations, their strong attention to detail ensured that no matter which hospital we went to (sometimes at the last minute), everything was always in order, a rare occurrence these days. read more

I first met Dr. Theodore Haley in the hospital when my PCP introduced him to me as a surgical consult. I was quite resistant to him at first, since he was telling me I would ultimately require surgery for my complicated diverticulitis and I didn't want to have surgery! But of course he was right, and two months later he operated on me. Dr. Haley has proven himself to be not just highly knowledgeable and professional, but personable and very kind. His follow up has been phenomenal - he has even impressed my home wound nurse with his level of follow through. She said that most surgeons aren't that invested. I have had a long recovery due to many complications not related to the surgery, and throughout it all I have always felt that Dr Haley and his staff truly care about my well being. Speaking of his staff, I can't end this review without mentioning Laura, Dr Haley's medical assistant. Laura has been wonderful about submitting paperwork for FMLA and disability, making sure I had painkiller prescriptions in a timely manner, and forcing the skilled nursing facility I was stuck in to order tests that Dr Haley wanted and that they were dragging their feet ordering. I really can't recommend Dr Haley and all his staff highly enough. If you require surgery, you can't do better than Dr. Haley. read more

Dr. Testa was my surgeon for some surgery under my scalp. His bedside manner is second to none. I truly believe he is one of those rare people who does God's work through his mind and hands. I have never been under anesthesia before and he put me at ease. He explained the surgical details in terms I could understand. Post operative visits have been great. My mother recently had surgery through Advanced Surgical Associates. I wanted to take the time to call out and appreciate Brandee Nelson. The five stars provided are due to her care and follow up as a office manager. She went out of her way to coordinate the covid testing before my moms schedule. She made sure we were aware of pre-surgery prep procedures. However, the most important was when the hospital called us at 2pm on Friday stating they didn't have paperwork from the office. Due to covid the office was already closed and we promptly received a call back from her and Dr. Szafranski letting us know not to worry and to still go in for surgery as scheduled. So I have a tendency to procrastinate on things I know are uncomfortable. I have had a huge bulging lipoma on my back right next to my spine. I unexpectedly had a couple days off during the past week so I decided to call the office and see if they could fit me in. The got me in for a consultation Thursday, I met with Dr Kadakia in the Gilbert office, he looked at I and explained that I started a new job Monday and was trying to get it removed while I was off or I may procrastinate on it again. Well he spoke to the nurse and got me into the hospital the next day. Well Friday came, he removed the lipoma and I was up and on my way. Not a lot a pain even 24hrs later. Dr. Kevin Masur and his medical assistant are both misleading, speak non truths and do things just to, as his report to my insurance company stated, PACIFY the patient. His report said that the 2 weeks he recommended as recovery time and wrote a time off work slip was only to pacify me and told the insurance company it was not medically needed even tho I was back in the emergency room 2 weeks later with acute pain from the mishandled gall bladder operation of May 5, 2015. This dr. (note small letters) is questionable if his mouth is moving. What ever happened to the oath that he took about his medical scruples. Luckily for me I was referred to Dr Cortesi, her scheduler Melissa called me and worked with me to get an appointment asap that worked with my schedule . I was referred to this office by my primary doctor. My appointment has been set for 2 weeks, yet this place decided to call me the day of my appointment, after I had already taken half a day off of work, to tell me the doctor is refusing to see me. Extremely unprofessional to call a new patient the day of, and cancel. Not only did I have to take time off of work and lose pay, now I am left with having to go back to my doctor, take more time off of work, without pay, pay a new office fee, to find a new doctor. read more
