How can you not love a place that offers Bingo, Trivia, two-for-one meals, live music, and some of the best beer on tap? Now that I'm not a reckless 19 year old, I tend to prefer an atmosphere where you can enjoy a game of pool and get a little silly over some cider around a table with friends. Archive is perfect for afternoon drinks to celebrate a new job or graduation, but it's also perfect for a Friday night banter. It's the place where you can just mosey in and enjoy a two-for-one feed (amazing chicken schnitzel, by the way) and have a beer to pair with it. it's just so easy to relax and enjoy the charged yet acceptably indifferent atmosphere Archive's twenty-something niche crowd tends to create. Any way, I love it. It's the best possible atmosphere for a group outing and it keeps things on the classy side until you want to spill out onto the street.

Archive isn't exactly my cup of tea. With entry from both Russell Street and Boundary Street, it's a pretty big place and I feel it tries to do a little too much. Going for the warm, scholarly, cosy look inside, it would be the perfect place to curl up in one of their couches and read a book whilst sipping one of their tasty boutique beers. However, the room is large, brightly lit and often full of people (at least this is a sign of its popularity). The front deck is nice with it's long wooden tables and street views, as is the Russell Street outdoor seating. Both of these areas, however, make the place feel more like a pub. The beer is good, the food and service is fast and location is awesome; I think perhaps, I just feel a slight discord between the theme of Archive and what it actually is: a large casual establishment, relatively cheap, suited to big crowds and with something for everyone. Nothing wrong with that, but I expected more of a niche bar.

Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday! If you didn't get my hint, you have to come to Archive on Wednesdays! They have a great 2 for 1 deal where you can get any 2 items on their menu and they charge you a singular price of the more expensive items. It's a great way to stretch that dollar in Australia and have amazing food. I ordered the Rib Fillet cooked medium with the garlic aioli sauce, and it was just amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and the marinade on it was just great! The dish also comes with a side salad and a generous amount of fries. I really enjoyed the food there, and it's definitely another one of my top places in Brisbane to go to. Be aware that since the 2 for 1 deal is so good, be prepared to see a lot of people. Even though our party got here at 8pm, there were barely any tables and we had to wait for a while to even find a table big enough for 12 people. The atmosphere here is absolutely great as the location in West End lends itself to its rich cultural atmosphere as well super fun vibe.

Archive is my Local. No I don't saunter over at around 10am to play the pokies and play pool with Bazza. I go to Archive for the 2 '4' 1's on wednesdays, or for the Trivia nights or frankly for the amazing range of Craft beers they have on offer. A mix of independent micro brewers and the larger beer houses will have you salivating at the bar. If that's not enough Archive's also offer hearty pub style food, retro furnishings (check out how their imaginative use of BOOKS, who said Beer makes you dumb?) and relaxed atmosphere. It's established itself as a Westend institution and will not disappoint.

Undoubtedly Brisbane's largest craft beer boutique and a cleverly marketed venue, with the book-themed decor cleverly lending what was essentially a new space under a nightclub for teenagers some sort of credibility and cache. The newspapers lining the walls may have been a little bit of a mistake, as they learned through the proliferation of profanities and depictions of appendages that were drawn on the images of several public figures. Management proactively replaced newspaper with comic book covers which have proved harder to deface. Apart from the beers Archive boasts a pretty serious modern Australian menu, with each item cleverly matched to a particular craft beer. The pan seared swordfish with roast potatoes, pickled cabbage and lemon is delicate, delicious and filling. I was on a rare detox at the time so I didn't match it with the recommended Mountain Goat Steam Ale. Other features I appreciate about Archive are their casual dress code (thongs and shorts are OK) and their late opening hours. They are often the last watering hole open on Boundary St, especially on a weeknight.

I've been to Archive several times during my years living in Brisbane and I often enjoy trying a new beer from their extensive range. I'm a fan of their book-page light fittings, miss-matched sofas and arm chairs and delicious chips from the kitchen. What makes me give Archive the A-OK rating and not something a little higher is their cider menu. I've really tried to like Pipsqueak cider - but it just doesn't please my pallet at all. Out of 10 ciders on their menu; I find I'm only able to enjoy one or two of them. And I just can't have a night on beer like I used to in my early twenties! All in all - Archive is a fun, casual pub with great decor. Just doesn't tickle my cider fancy.

Archive is another go to spot when we have out of towners. It has an extensive beer and cider menu and the snacks are really tasty. What more could you want? Oh I know, how bout the fact that it's filled with thrift shop style furniture so while you're enjoying your beers and snacks you can cozy into a big old couch while you chat with your friends? The location is great too because it's an easy stop on a pub hop in West End.

I am a very very happy person when drinking the fine beers on offer at Archive. This establishment is one of my favourites in West End and by the crowds there on any given night I assume a favourite haunt for many. The bar staff are very friendly, always serving with a smile. But it is the beers on tap at Archive that make me the happiest. I love a good Little Creatures or Mountain Goat and they are priced very reasonably here. Archive is one of those places with enough quirky decour that you can easily become distracted from you conversaion as your eyes travel around the bar made of books, the page lights adorning the ceiling, or the wall of newspapers. The bathroom is annoyingly dark however. This is great for when you are on a bender and you don't really want to notice the mascara smudging around your eyes and making you look like a panda bear, but Archive is not really that sort of place so when you've only had one beer and you can barely see your face it is quite annoying. Nonetheless, in general Archive is pretty neat. There are some good pool tables available that are almost always in use as well as various couches. Out the front are some nice long tables, great for when you are with a big group of friends or deciding to make new ones. Archive is definitely the place to be if you like a good brew among good company.

The latter which I had yet to experience in Brisbane. Sporting four areas, the venue has something for pretty much anyone. On Saturday, it was bustling. Almost every table will filled (which is good going seeing as they only opened on the 19th) and amongst the couples and a friends populating the venue, there was one big family table having dinner. It diversity of the venue was comforting and reminded me of the English pubs I spent time in growing up. We had one quick drink on Saturday and tonight I returned to grab a quick dinner. It was quieter tonight, which suited what I was looking for. The menu, in my opinion, is spot on in size. Bat snacks, sharing sized options, sandwiches, sides and bigger plates. It's creative, but not over the top or complicated. I opted for the chip butty, because chips in bread. Come at me. The bread came filled with shoe strings fries, black garlic mayo and homemade tomato sauce. It was crisp and saucy and... bloody perfect really. Sitting at the bar (it's all bar service), I chatted to the bar staff who were just the right level of attentive. I asked for a glass of red to go with my sandwich, a slightly odd pairing, I know. My glass of Pinot was light, velvety and was the perfect match. For a venue that's been open for an entire seven days, they're doing something right. Wait, scratch that. Everything right.

We were looking forward to a good breakfast and ordered the Big Breakfast with avocado added and a couple of coffees. When our breakfast arrived it looked good, but as soon as we touched the eggs they were hard and rubbery and our hearts sank. There's not much worse than overcooked poached eggs. Cutting into the eggs, all 4 were hard boiled with an overwhelming smell and taste of vinegar. If the eggs were just hard we would have still eaten them, but all we could taste was vinegar and the whites were rubbery and inedible. The waitress offered to replace them with fried eggs after talking to the cook. She advised that the cook could only make poached eggs with vinegared water and they couldn't guarantee that the same thing wouldn't happen again. We look forward to soft poached eggs with breakfast every Saturday, so we took the chance that if they were cooked properly they wouldn't taste like vinegar...unfortunately that was a very bad mistake. The eggs were replaced with terribly under-cooked poached eggs with raw whites oozing all over the plate. The thin layer of cooked whites on the outside still tasted only like vinegar so we just ate the yolks. The rest of the breakfast was nice, but we left feeling like the cook had no idea how to poach eggs, or had deliberately under cooked the eggs to the point that they were also inedible. Either way, we wouldn't go back.

The joint is unassuming and casual but the service and the food is beyond delightful. Cheery, helpful and kid-friendly. I was thrilled to see a few toddlers already dining there on a Saturday night. Even more thrilled that they were not at all fussed when we asked for a table change away from the cold draft of our original table. The choice of beers (Green Beacon) excited my husband who'd already spied his top two faves in the fridge. We ordered the bacon and blue for him, cheeseburger for me and buffalo wings to share and our companions also ordered the lamb and tatziki burger. We were all extremely happy with our choices. The cheeseburger is always my go to, when trying a new burger joint and this didn't disappoint me. I observed the melted cheese when my waitress brought the dish and I was salivating. The patty was perfectly cooked, the brioche was light and tasty. My taste buds were doing the samba! Joy of joys! The buffalo wings were flavoursome and absolutely divine! I could honestly devour them in one sitting sans the burger. I didn't notice any hot sauce but you didn't need them. It was just the right amount of heat (not overpowering at all). Brew Master's, I'll definitely be back!
