One of the best burgers I've had. A must go experience.

One of the best burgers. The fries are incredible and the hospitality is great. It's a great atmosphere with plenty of gastro pub feel.

Great atmosphere and good all-around food served hot. Great choice of beers. Nor sure what else you need to say about a restaurant which is great. Mixture of age groups, average age of 30+. Music is good, noisy enough to notice but not so bad that you have to shout.

Yeah, basically you can get a beer here, and it is pretty decent beer as well. However, this is one of those places you come to if you like whiskey. Still, I personally quite liked the bar, since the atmosphere, and the beer, was pretty good.

The ground floor gives way to a grand timber bar, and an impressive wall of over 175 whiskeys, with barmen greeting punters and mixing some stunning cocktails, under the gaze of the vintage penny farthing adorning the bare brick walls. Cobbler has become my favourite midweek haunt for a quick cocktail (or three) with friends, and it just does not disappoint. The staff are gifted when it comes to their craft, and are gracious in recommending a new drink, or trying a different mix of an old favourite. It's a strictly BYO Food affair, but it only adds to the charm of the space. There's an upstairs lounge with recliners, and a internal deck that overlooks the space below. With drinks named like 'The men of the night's watch', and the 'Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster' it's clear Cobbler doesn't take itself too seriously, and it leaves it up to its drinks to speak for it. Parking is a challenge, but hey, welcome to West End. If you're up for a quiet drink, or a fancy yourself a whiskey enthusiast, I challenge you to find a more enjoyable place to sip, contemplate the world, or just people watch.

We were set to see a movie at The Barracks across the road from Caxton Street and rather than dine at any number of the respectable choices in the Barracks centre, I made a beeline for Lefty's. Arriving just before 6 I was the sole punter in this seriously brooding and sexy bar. Would it seem out of place to see Saloon girls do the can can atop the higher level balcony? Probably not. I approached the bar and asked the bar keep what their house drink was. "Whiskey and apple," he said tossing a Granny Smith apple in his hand. Yeah, not just apple juice from a bottle but freshly squeezed, baby. I was all prepped to order said drink when he let slip it also goes well with Gin. You, mister, are good. "I'll take a gin and apple, thanks!" My dining partner arrived and we settled each on having their interpretation of the cheeseburger. Be warned: unless you are ravenous, you'll easily be able to share this between two. We didn't realise this and I tapped out long before I could claim my plate of fries and burger complete. Still, it was delicious and for $12 it's an affordable take on "pub grub." This place already had some serious swagger at 6pm on a Wednesday night, I can only imagine (and look forward to seeing it) in full swing on a Friday or Saturday eve.

It was one of the first bars I went to when I moved to Brisbane and I automatically fell in love. It's one of my favourite venues around now. The back bar is beautiful, busy and filled with some of the world's best spirits. Each time I visit, I am mesmerised by it AND they have a sliding ladder to reach the top shelves. They've recently started doing food and I was excited to see I can go and have breakfast there. Winning. The layout of the venue is pretty impressive. The room is dark and filled with wood. Small tables fill the floor, but there is also the option to sit at the bar, a luxury not found in every bar and is something that makes me feel extremely at home and connected to the venue. The cocktail, beer and wine list is creative and innovative. Cocktails with fennel, luscious wines take up the majority of the list and I am yet to make my way through even a 1/5 of it. What brings it all together, though, is the team. From the bouncer on the weekend, to the bar staff to the venue manager, the team are experienced, knowledgeable, welcoming and kind. I have never seen them interact with a customer in any way other than positively and that really represents how passionate they are about what they do. What should you order? WELL. The Fig'n'Delightful - toasted fennel vodka with fig puree and other yumminess. West Winds Cutlass Southside - hands down the best one I've ever had. Enjoy.

They had a stellar line up of girl bands on downstairs and upstairs was starting to get busy. We grabbed a mix of cocktails and spirits a were lucky to nab the last table. The crowd was the expected mix of hipsters, punks, rockers and general awesome humans. We had a mix of cocktails and Jack's cans ($10? Why, thank you, sir) and grabbed the last table upstairs. Downstairs was filling up quickly with people there to see the all girl live music line up for the night and I was a little saddened by the fact that my friends and I had plans so we couldn't head downstairs and rock out. The second time I went to Crow bar was for the secret and impromptu gig for #keepcommunityradio, featuring Smith Street Band and Violent Soho. First off, they managed the crowd so freaking well. The gig was announced at about 12.30pm and they opened to doors at 3pm. It was at capacity by 3.10pm. From a logistical point of view, they completely nailed it. From a line up point of view, it was killer. The vibe was outstanding and everyone was just there to have fun and support their community. Also, the accoustics in that venue our outstanding. I popped in for a quick drink before I met a friend on Wednesday night was met with the great surprise of a movie night. The crew open the doors and put on pizzas and a movie for free from 5pm every Wednesday. This week they were showing the Pussy Riot film and I grabbed a seat the bar, sank a drink and enjoyed the movie until it was time for me to head off to meet my mate. Every time I've been to Crow bar the staff and the clientele have been freaking' awesome. Helpful, relaxed and inviting, they break every stereotype that a metal venue would unfortunately have. If you head to Crow Bar, be ready for your expectations to be blown out of the water. My next visit will definitely be on a Thursday for ladies night. $4 drinks, bubbles on arrival and I need to try their toasties.
