Potato has with bacon. Spot on.
    Gregg L.

Wooo this is the good stuff right here! Stayed in Broadbeach for a few days and ate here two separate occasions. Absolutely fantastic coffee (the Ethiopian cold brew was next level and didn't even need sugar or milk) and you MUST TRY the potato hash. Had it with bacon first time and salmon the next (think I preferred the bacon although the smoked salmon was great). Nice atmosphere with a patio where you can sit outside, relatively friendly staff and overall a damn creative take on classic breakfast. If you're around and want a great breakfast, try it!

Potato hash ($18) with bacon. A new spin on eggs Benedict.

Amazing coffee, food, coffee, friendly staff, did I mention great coffee? The location is a little out of the way but it makes it better, convenient parking or a short walk along the beach from broadbeach. They are open from 6am, if that isn't music to every early rising parent of a baby I don't know what is! We have been pre-7am twice!! We have been now 3 times and everyone has been really friendly and the service is exceptional. The cafe is both dog and child friendly, with 4 high chairs available. The coffee was exceptional, smooth and not too bitter. The Lindt mocha was just the same as a regular mocha though, I was unnecessarily excited by it. Food wise, the potato hash ($18) is the winner in our book. I have bacon, my husband prefers smoked salmon. Both are amazing. It is a new take on eggs Benedict and it delivers. The stodgy English muffin is replaced with 2 potato hash balls and it is served with rocket and watercress and a sneaky wedge of avocado. We are definitely repeat customers, in 3 days we are almost up for a free coffee on our coffee card!

We had recommendations for this one and weren't expecting much but gosh, they do their food and coffee well! Fantastic food for breakfast and the best coffee I've had since we arrived in GC. You will have to contend with a fairly heavy parent crowd, so keep this in mind, and people love their pets as well, but it's worth it for the food - they've really put some thought into the menu.

Guy driving up on fixie: Check Industrial yet warm interior: Check Laid back, friendly staff: Check Check check check: Hipster Heaven This place is a cute hangout, popular with locals (hip or not) that is, unsurprisingly, quite busy in the weekend; we had to wait about 15 minutes on a Saturday morning at around 9 am. This place is closed on all but one side; with walls, ceiling and floor constructed of concrete or stone it gets very loud inside. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Water and coffees came out very quick (except one which took half the breakfast). We weren't too keen on the coffees; a bit on the weak side for the milky ones while the macchiato was disappointing (something seemed wrong with the coffee, or maybe it was a very unusual roast). The orange/pineapple/mint juice had zero hint of mint. Of the dishes, which are nicely presented, we got good reviews from around the table for the avo/feta, but the others considered their options fairly basic and bland. This was certainly true for the sautéed cove and butternut pumpkin that I ate. It looked delicious on paper (and in person), but it simply wasn't special. We all added on corn-beef croquettes to our dishes, but those were bland also. To make things worse, I found a hair in mine :-( My review is 3/5 with or without the hair. I probably wouldn't mind giving the place another try in the future, but I won't go out of my way to revisit.

Great spot in a quite area with convenient street parking. We tried the breakfast burger and potato hash for brunch. Breakfast burger was great, has a nice kick from the jalapeños. The potato hash with mushrooms was ok, might be better with the other meat combinations available on the menu. Coffee here is pretty good. I had an iced latte and hubby had the kickarse shake - which is some sort of caramel milkshake. Shake is sweet but not overly sweet and had bit of a nutty flavor - pretty yummy if you like milkshakes. Price - we were a group of 4 and it came out to about 22pp with each person getting a drink and food item.

    - HIGHLY recommend their thick shakes and potato hash breakfast's Elk is one of my favourite cafes on the coast. It has a great location only a short stroll from the beach. Elk's staff are friendly, funny and easy to talk to (they very much remind me of the type of people general pant's ppl hire). Elk has great vibes & music, is beautifully decorated (lot's of photo op's) and is great for having a coffee or catching up with a friend/ friends.

Amongst the locals, it's well known that this place is one of the best on the Gold Coast for coffee and serves a wide selection delicious breakfast and lunch options. I've only ever had good meals here. My favourite brekky option: the potato hash with smoked salmon. The menu does change slightly with the seasons however, to keep things interesting... Just putting it out there: I love the set up and the style. The atmosphere of the place firmly fits into the trendy/hipster category, with the usual Gold Coast laid back/casual flair. It's all casual, comfortable and makes you feel at home. Patchy painted walls, wooden tables with an uneven finish, light bulbs and plants hanging everywhere gives the impression that they ran out of time fitting out the place but in fact adds to the homeliness feeling (or at least eating in the bottom basement of a house, which of course is intentional ;p). Service is excellent, exactly what a coffee place should be: helpful, efficient, prompt, and all with a smile. But Elk is not just your typical coffee place. They do dinner as well! Well, only on Fridays (for now) and reservations are a must (call or email). The dinner menu composes of a wide variety of share plates (tapas style) and they also set menus which suit for groups of 2 or more people. Keeping true to their breakfast reputation, their food by night is just as impressive. Byron Bay Pork Belly with blueberry relish? Kentucky Fried Rabbit? YUM! And they have a few sweet options as well. Baked cheesecake with a tim tam base anyone? I can't say enough good things about this place. Try it you must (if you haven't already...).

10/10 option when you're feeling something more sweet, fresh & healthy in comparison to their other hearty & tasty savoury options !

Being a lover of breakfast & brunch, & finding new places to try: I did not take no for an answer to driving all the way to Gold Coast that early Sunday morning. I found this place due to social media as all Elk Espresso's food posts that I came across looked so presentable & delicious. When we arrived to this cute hipster looking place, there was no lie that it wasn't busy. My friend I were preparing for the worst as we got closer to the counter & saw a waiting list sign up. We put our names on the list & were surprisingly told from friendly energetic staff that we would be alright for a table in 10 min- which was impressively true. Not long after being seated, our food & drinks after ordering were delivered to our table in less that 10-15minutes. I ordered the raspberry & almond panna cotta w/ puffed grains, seeds, nuts, berries, passionfruit & yoghurt w/ a green cold pressed juice of cucumber, apple, kale & spinach. My panna cotta dish ticked all my boxes of flavour & texture satisfaction (crunch from the grain, nuts & seeds mix/creaminess from the yoghurt & panna cotta etc), & my juice was fresh & balanced that no other ingredients were too dominant. Some would say that there's hype surrounded by this place & that some items are overpriced, but I was definitely okay paying for the happiness & satisfaction I got from my delicious 1st experience of Elk Espresso. I seriously can't praise this place enough for the great food, but for the equally great service. Plus the fact it was just a walk away from the beach. It was an awesome way to start off my Sunday morning ! :)

Moroccan beans and pumpkin - winter menu bliss

Always a Pleasure. We arrived rather late on a saturday morning hoping to catch breakfast. Sadly for us, it was super busy and we didn't quite make the cut. So, we left looking elsewhere but happily returned to Elk for Lunch. (Winter Lunch Menu) A Killerbee Long Black (great aroma and quite smooth), Lindt Mocha, Milo Milkshake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Thickshake (flavour explosion, perfect balance of Chocolate and peanut butter) were ordered to fill in the bit of time we had until lunch could be ordered. I myself ordered the Pea and silverbeet Croquettes, With smoked trout, feta, avocado and beetroot salad. It was divine. The delicate crunch of the croquet and the subtle sweetness of the dressing, along with the creamy texture of the feta and avocado, and the slight salty nature of the trout made for a very well balanced and filling lunch. As usual a job well done Elk. :)

The breakfast eye fillet (minus tomato)

Cute cafe, complete with hipster "insert anything besides jam here" in a jar - this time it was my lovely freshly squeezed pineapple juice. Staff were friendly, atmosphere was good - the place was pretty busy but we easily had a conversation. F had the toasted banana and walnut bread - and man did it smell good! I'd just been talking about trying to eat less, but getting more protein in. Low and behold there was steak on the breakfast menu - it was a sign! Ordered the eye fillet with poached eggs, sour dough (replaced with grain), and minus the tomato for 20 bucks. I wasn't asked how I wanted the steak, so asked for rare when told it would be medium rare - it was a thin slice of meat so it wasn't overly rare but tasty nonetheless Although my dish came out with the sour dough, our waitress (is that the right job title these days?) was extremely apologetic and had my delicious grain toast on the table in no time! If you are looking for a nice, cool little cafe that could fit in easily at home in Melbourne - check Elk out! For 2 juices, our food and a coffee the bill came to $43.

So good. The menu here is pure quality and might I add a touch fancy. They had a Very Green Salad on their Spring breakfast menu and it was mind blowingly awesome. The green salad had kale, broccolini, peas, with poached eggs. It came with a dollop of a creamy dressing and to top it off you could add pork belly. I haven't seen a dish this great at any places I've visited recently for breakfast so it was such a pleasure to find. I think these guys switch up their menu seasonally so put them on your list to visit regularly. Meals were a hearty size and the ambiance here is modern and casual with a breezy feel that you get down the coast.

I've been waiting all week to be back, worth the drive from Brisbane. Now I did wanted to try something different from the potato hash with double smoked bacon, but it's so hard to avoid i gave in. The price if definitely worth it, great flavour and portion size. Coffee is always on point. It's a place with a really good vibe... Reps GC very well.

    Ploughmans Board

As someone who lives in Brisbane I don't usually get the chance to go to breakfast on the Gold Coast, but when I do I love to visit Elk Espresso! My first visit was about a year ago and although I ordered something simple like an eggs Benedict, the food and flavours were anything but simple. I remember the hollandaise having a slight aniseed flavour and was completely taken! I promised myself then that I would come back the next chance I got. Unfortunately it was almost a year until I got the chance to visit next. After a sunrise run on the beach a hearty breakfast was exactly what I needed, and boy did Elk deliver! I ordered the Ploughmans board which featured a beautiful array of breakfast items. The pork and fennel seed sausage was my personal favourite of mine, however the chorizo and bean mix had a flavour would rival the best. Very generous serving with out being gluttonous- a balance hard to achieve. The coffee was delicious, I could not fault it. I ordered one of the 'Red' cold press juices and was not disappointed in the slightest. It was slightly expensive but I think you come to expect that- and to be honest I wasn't complaining. The seasonal menu keeps things fresh and interesting and honestly I can't wait to see what is on the menu when I next get the chance to stop by! I know that often times people will have to wait for a table when it is busy. My advice is - it's worth the wait!!!

I always like a basic eggs Bennie but their potato hash with salmon, eggs and hollandaise seemed appealing on paper.
