Wow, just wow. The Gresham is a flawlessly executed whiskey and rum bar whose talented staff and enticing ambiance transcend the tyical watering hole offering a refreshingly extraordinary experience. Atmosphere: Discovered The Gresham while walking down the street with a friend on a Saturday evening around 10pm. The atmosphere and vibe of the bar were noticeable from the street and drew us inside. The bar is well appointed, with decor that compliments and highlights the hostorical architecture of the bar. The room has a 25 foot pressed tin coffered ceiling, tall windows accented with deep red velvet curtains and several unique lighting fixtures providing a perfect ambient light level. Service: Upon our arrival we were immediately welcomed in by the friendly, muscular gentleman at the door and made our way to the bar. The staff were attractive which was a bonus as their bartending skills were mesmerizing. Peter, in particular, was magical behind the bar and certainly has a talent for making cocktails. The bartenders were incredibly friendly, attentive and had an obvious passion for their craft. Adult Beverages: The bar has an extensive whisky and rum selection in addition to other spirits. The bartenders were all very knowledgeable and created custom drinks designed to customer tastes. From smoke infusion to homemade bitters to torched citrus zest, each drink was well composed and artistically executed.

Spectacular new American Whiskey bar. Beautiful, classic decor and fresh, tasty #Tobysestate brew.

This venue is a stunner. Spectacular bar with an impressive selection of elixir; featuring cherry cola cocktails and Whiskey you can't get your hands on anywhere else in Australia. Beautiful, classic decor complete with antique furniture and deliciously comforting Toby's Estate coffee. Breakfast coming soon, great spot for business meetings and afternoon drinks.

Amazing Drinks, fantastic atmosphere, it's not one to be missed if you're in the CBD and after a well made beverage.

I am in love with these Australian whiskey bars here in Brisbane. Which have been the highlight of my business trip down here. Outside of the touristy things of course. I am amazed by the knowledge of bartenders with the intensive whiskey menus. Being from Texas I never have yet until now experienced such vast array of bourbon and single malt whiskey's. I am literally in awe when looking at the extensive options which can be over whelming at first. But after talking with the bartenders about tastes, flavor and smoke. I dove right in.... Give this place a go, the whiskey is FINE.

So I'm kind of loving this combination of 'coffee during the day, drinks by evening' that some of my favourite venues are doing now. The Gresham is up there as one of the best, excelling in both areas. They initially sold me on the cozy Prohibition-library-style atmosphere, incredible whisky list and complimentary peanuts, not to mention the fact that it is wonderfully close to my workplace so I can convince people to go there on a Friday evening over somewhere in the Mall. Located in the old NAB building off Gresham Lane on the corner of Queen and Creek Streets, the Gresham is unobtrusive and slightly hidden. Open daily from 7am to 3/4am, you will almost always have it as an available haven. From 7, they serve up some excellent Toby's Estate coffee ($4 for small; $5 for large; or $4 for a large if you BYO KeepCup) and if you're lucky, Ryan Goody (2013 Urban List Best Barista) will be at the helm and you can be assured that it will be one damn good coffee. They also have a simple Continental breakfast menu offering muffins, danishes and Turkish toast with a range of spread options. They have deals on coffee-food combinations such as a coffee & toast costing a mere $6.50. Takeaway is also an option and if you're there in the morning, you will regularly see people exiting with a coffee cup and brown paper bag in their hands. At 2pm coffee time is up and it's drinks time and they have one extensive drinks list to choose from: -plenty of craft beer options on tap, decent wine list available by the glass or bottle, a range of delicious sounding cocktails, a large variety of spirits. And then there's the list of whiskies which are lined up behind the bar in a stunning looking array. Divided into two options (American Whiskey and (other) Whisk(e)y), I am overwhelmed just looking at it. When feeling adventurous and don't just give up and order one of the House Pours, I've asked the bartenders for their suggestions and they've always made excellent recommendations. Not sure if it's still the case, but they used to allow you to BYO lunch when buying drinks and there are a good range of cheap eats down Gresham Lane.

The midnight rambler is my FAVORITE drink there although they have lots of good ones and know how to mix them well!

Jam-packed with people of all ages from all the countries the beautiful world has to offer. Only catch is, you can only get in if you're a traveller or student (ID/Passport required) and if you're a girl. Although we have snuck the odd guy in with a bunch of girls with much success. It helps if you know the bouncer. They play music with the likes of Love Shack, Horny, Addicted to Bass and a lot of songs popular all over the world with the kids in the 90s era. They do go back to Dancing Queen and Mr Wendal as well and boy can you boogy to the tunes of this place. Be prepared to have some form of alcohol spilt on your fancy clothes every time you go there. Be prepared for people dancing on tables (even though they've banned it). Be prepared to body squish your way from the dance floor to the toilets and then back to the dancefloor with very willing body squichers - usually from Braz-eeeel (Brazil) and write a note on the wall to your ex-lover in the toilets and pretty much throughout the whole bar, on the walls, on the furniture... everywhere. Leave your memory here for free. This place will always hold a special place in our hearts, yes it's not posh, it's rather backpackery... but that's how we would like it to stay. Join in the songs with your hearts and hands and sing and dance to the wee hours to an awesome DJ with various glow in the dark articles through his hair. People have fun here, and that's what being young and travelling the world is supposed to feel like. Footloose and fancy free.

But the layout of the place is even better! It is a basement bar, half of it outside and the other half kind-of-inside. Very spacious, clean and with good selection of beer (albeit mostly mainstream beers, but a lot of them). Very comfortable, with some big TVs and also music. Good people watching too. The food is good, not amazing, but you can't expect amazing in such a central, tourist-y area. I had the wings and they're a solid 8/10, at least. Service was great too. Shout out to Elise behind the bar.

However, like most of the pubs in the CBD, this one does close quite early (though late enough that I was able to slip in here for a drink one night). There is nothing fancy or flash about this pub - expect the standard beers on tap - no craft beers. It also has a pokies area and a bistro, though there is a pool table tucked away in one corner. The beer garden is pretty cool as well, but unfortunately for the smokers it is not the designated smoking area. During the day it does get fairly crowded (though I have never noticed anybody out in the beer garden, despite it being a pretty nice day), but it was fairly quiet when I was there.

But sometimes it's good to get reckless and a bit silly over some beers and some really, really terrible love music. Irish Murphy's doesn't necessarily have bad music (I'm also a sucker for an accent, especially Irish) but they certainly have the collective crowd keen on getting drunk and roaring along to an inaudible and stereotypically perfect karaoke song. Maybe it's the fact that Irish Murphy's adopts an appearance actually like an Irish pub, but I can't help but have a little fondness for it. I have to search for the fondness a little but believe me, it's there. It's just an ideal place to gather around a table and sling back a few casual (or not so casual) beers and get a little messy and fun. And when you've had a few, who can't join in with the crooning and tuning of the blokes on stage? The beer's fairly cheap, the company's not half bad, and the entertainment isn't sot stale either. I'm not trying to sound begrudging here, because like I said, I do have a soft spot for Irish Murphy's. I just like to be with a larger group of people and get a little silly in the name of fun. If you're after slurry banter and Irish accents, Irish Murphy's is the place to be.
