Got talking about gin while on our teams Gin-venture. Batender showed us this... Its the best!

Love it! I'm a bartender with a passion for cocktails. Can come and get what I want. Except food. But I can get and classic drink I want plus good beers. Don't know about wine, havnt bothered to ask. Staff have knowledge and will throw chat if they are not barradged with big orders. Or they will talk to you to get a break from a cluster of orders.. I all ways enjoy my time anyway. Just get in there and ask for a twist on your favorite. Let the team show off and take pride in what can show you! We love gin, and found it with a recommendation from these boys. But, have not seen any girls working the bar. Not many as customers either! I've seen live music there, but it's on a random occasion. I only go on Sundays. My go to bar. Easy when there are so few options. But great none the less.

There is a light that can be turned on, which I prefer, but most patrons like the dark so the staff keep it off.

I will gladly hand these guys their first review and five whole stars. What can I say? I missed…read moreTwig and Berry for years before I even saw them. As they are only super fresh to the scene they have a pretty tight cocktail list. Carefully edited and well rounded. They have some favourites, some classics, some newbies with flavour combinations that work and some more unusual ones (see the pickle back. Couldn't bring myself to go there). It's a basement bar and commercial drive has a fair bit of street parking so even at 6 on a Friday night I got a park at the front door. Once you walk down the stairs, the outdoor courtyard style set up is lovely and great for big groups. Well placed furniture allows a lot of standing space but plenty of chairs as well. Once inside you have the choice of tall chairs and tables at the back, small stools and table in the front, couches upholstered in the same kooky wildlife print that adorns their walls and their menus and two divine brown leather wing chairs. They look fresh out of the library at Beasts castle in Beauty and the Beast. This is my favourite spot. The decor is very cool. Kooky wallpaper on one side, exposed bricks on the other. Roof is made of old recycled doors. Yep, doors! The place is mostly dim lighting and candlelight lending to that speakeasy style they've got going on. The staff are incredibly attentive and insanely friendly. Both times I've been the bartenders were happy to offer suggestions, have a bit of a chat about the place and the drinks and just generally have a bit of a joke. One thing I will say for T&B, it's very comfortable. The vibe: we're all friends here. Of the four or five drinks I have tried they didn't put a foot wrong. Exactly as described with names that make me want to make my choices on that alone. I'd suggest The Clockwork Orange or Lost In Thought. For something familiar served a little different try The Zombie bottled cocktail. They do have food here but it is a limited list (2 items) and subject to availability. Overall I was very impressed and will be adding this to my roster of cocktail hotspots. Welcome to the neighbourhood, Twig and Berry. I'm glad you finally decided to join us.

This is important to note for reasons unknown. Once underground your modern-day dress almost felt out of place and more akin to an Evelyn Waugh novel. Perhaps you'd be sitting across from a Mitford sister, or some other Bright Young Thing. It all felt a little bit Midnight In Paris when Woody Allen's script sends Owen Wilson's character back to the roaring days of Hemingway. The Walrus Bar (you'll have to visit to answer the question, "Why Walrus?"), headed by Krystal Hart (recently crowned Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender for 2013) and with support behind the bar from some of this town's finest (including a few familiar faces from Canvas), is home to some 300 spirits; rum; cheese and charcuterie and 30 Cuban cigars. As well as my usual cocktail friend (Southsides), I happily sipped on an Indian punch (Panch Phora Punch) which was a rich and seductively easy to drink. This is a rum bar primarily and the majority of lighting within the bar is from the glass cabinets containing every rum you could imagine. Of course, it is never wise to enjoy such decadent drink on an empty stomach and The Walrus have you sorted with a menu of small plates. The Walrus Bar has to be seen to be believed so rather than me waffle on any further - just visit this underground lair which you'll forget resides underneath The Regatta.

In fact, I found that this particular bar did happen to have quite a bit of character about it. Okay, it was a little dark inside, but that is something that I have come to expect, and it is also easily missed, though from the crowds inside that doesn't seem to be the case, though I suspect it does have a lot to do with word of mouth, if that happens to count these days. Still, as a bar, this place wasn't all that bad.

The "Winter Warmers" section of the menu is short but sweet. Mulled Wine or a Hot Toddy for $14, or toasty warm rum (either Hot Buttered or Milk Punch) for $15. With Bacardi Oakheart spiced rum, dark cacao, spiced brown sugar syrup, chocolate bitters and yes, butter, I couldn't go past the Hot Buttered Rum. I watched the bartender cut off a slab of butter and drop it in the little saucepan used to make each individual drink, and I knew it was going to be an exciting time for me. The drink came served with two marshmallows and half a scotch finger biscuit (snapped lengthways, well done) and a warning - "let it cool for a bit, cos it's really f*cking hot". I truly relished our time together on the couch, accompanied by a bun from the Bun Mobile, parked outside for the evening. The marshmallows got absolutely annihilated in the (correctly described) really f*cking hot liquid and I highly recommend dunking the scotch finger. Knowing Brisbane's weather, I advise you to get in quickly for a Winter Warmer, because soon enough it'll be too warm outside again for a hot drink to seem anything but insane.
