So tonight I ventured into prohibition, I was greeted at the door by a very dapper gentleman who wore the title of security. He was friendly, welcoming and even told me about the hair and make up on offer. Inside I was greeted by a number of small quiet rooms which stepping back placed you in the era of the 20' and 30's Chicago style. Staff were dressed in the era of underground prohibition and I expected to find a secret room of cards tables, women and whiskey. In the main room was centred the bar with high end spirits not your pre mix or Carlton stubby in this place. Drink prices were very reasonable and staff well mannered and you were treated as a lady or gentleman of an era past gone. Later I met one of the owners Rodney who migrated up from Sydney and 6 months ago opened the doors of a classy joint marketed at an older group. Ladies Thursday Manhattan nights will see you hand over $10 dollars and if you arrive between 8 and 10pm you will receive a $50 drink card to use on any drink you would like. Coming up will be cotton club night which will set you back $15 with two free drinks and some burlesque and dancing. Also a rare inclusion to a club is the old cloak room and yes it's free. You won't find your young lout here. As this place is about class. They also have the Wall Street room for elite members, you need to be invited to join this special room which holds 100 people, inside those security cladden doors you will find a very fine retro room with very high end sprints and wine, I was fortunate enough to be shown this room and it's amazing and looks like a movie set with retro ceilings and walls with a secret passage way that allows elite members to access the main bar area where members of the general public dance the night away. Think the hotel in American Horror Story Hotel and your on the mark, all we are missing is Lady GaGa.
Hair and make up at 9pm are complimentary and I'm about to complete this review and get my make over done. I'll post a pic later. So if your looking for a good night out in class, dress up and step back in time to the days of secret era of prohibition. Okay I'm back, I had my make up done by gabby who was friendly and even though she appeared to be quite young she did an okay job, gabby used Youngblood products on my face. See photo. Then I went onto Jamie who did my hair, he is young and hip and his idea of a 1940's did not quite measure up but then he did not have all equipment he needed to master that look. Sadly he was a bit foul mouthed and was being poached by another hair dresser who was a manager elsewhere so his attention to his client was not quite there. See photos. Overall I give this place 4 stars go check it out folks. Also you can book a booth and get VIP treatment but need a minimum spend of $700 but worthwhile on that special occasion folks.
Ok it's now almost 11pm so we made a second visit, the above review was done prior to 10.00 pm. A good reviewer will always visit later. It's a very different scene, dress standard has dropped, it's a younger crowd, though it is busy so it is a happening place, the music is very modern and young, the ladies toilets are disgusting and hair and make up is very busy.door staff changed and I would say there lies your issue, now it feels like any other valley club so I would recommend try the cotton club night for a safer option. But then I am older then the clientele right now in this place. 3 out of 5 stars and let's not visit after midnight or of you do head to the first room on the right at the bottom of the stairs, solo artist and friendly staff, thanks Emily it's a pleasure to see your smiling face and wonderful service. read more
