The pub itself is fine, but the gaming room is always dirty, with empty glasses left to pile up and seats and pokies always sticky and gross. There is no consideration for the customers who spend their money in their gaming room - no coffee or even water, and very often harrassment by people asking for money. If a venue is prepared to take gamblers' money, there should be at least a clean place to sit, and some support from staff when beggars are bothering patrons. Awful. read more

When I passed this way the first time this pub was, well, basically shut. Fortunately, I found myself back here six months later and it has reopened and it was certainly an impressive sight to behold. This pub is pretty big, and their beer selection is nothing short of awesome. In fact, it is so big that you are really not going to have a problem finding a place to sit. I do love the Boundary. I like what they've done with it to "pretty it up", extend it etc etc. I also love love love that they've left the HOSE OUT BAR just as they found it. Five Stars from me for honouring this old bar with its tiles and blue collar charm. First hint to owners - never get rid of the HOSE OUT BAR - I freaking love it and when The Walters play on a Saturday nite it goes off! My last hint of the day comes from my latest visit. I was celebrating my son's 20th birthday upstairs in the beer garden. We wanted to sit a few hours with "beer and chips" - our tradition, our love. Unfortunately, I found out that the kitchen does not operate out of meal times! What???? So if you want some hot chips with your beer at 3pm you'll be sadly disappointed (as we were) What the??? I thought there was some archaic Qld rule that mean you customers of drinking holes must be able to access food with their alcohol? Anyway, Boundary, get that chip fryer and hot plate going and on auto to keep your loyal customers happy. How difficult would it be to offer a bar menu all day long? They let a rookie security guard dictate their RSA. I arrived and had 2 beers and was told because I was sitting next to a table on a bucks that we were cut off. The bar staff advised me to talk to a security guard about it. Firstly, shouldn't the bar staff have competed an RSA and be able to asses a situation. Now I used to be pretty disparaging when it came to this landmark pub. I love dive bars as much as the next person but after a while of going past and seeing passed out locals on the kerb (its 10am on a tuesday dude!) I lacked cojones to go in by myself. ...My bourgeois sentiment changed however when I wandered in on a friday night and saw Blind Dog Donnie play. Maaaaan this place suddenly got a whole lot more attractive. As soon as those rhythm and blues started playing, the beer was a swillin' and my toes were a tappin'. I started appreciating this honest-to-goodness working mans pub and the west end characters in it. The Boundary has recently has a facelift, with a beer garden and a fancy new upstairs bar. Wellity well, don't me have a nice little venue in the Boundary Hotel nowadays hmmm? I can see how now it would be considered a staple local because the beer garden upstairs really is fantastic. It's fantastic in that it's simple and doesn't try to make too bold of a statement, so it ends up making a statement of casual class. I really like this place. My friend and I were simply looking for a place to continue our conversation after dinner and the Boundary Hotel enveloped us. We made our way upstairs and indulged in some cheap drinks to while away the night. Perched ever so elegantly around our beer barrel, we proceeded to go back into a deep and meaningful conversation while taking in the casual (and then rowdy) atmosphere that calls the Boundary Hotel home. Boundary is the perfect venue for West End because it reflects the attitude of West End: a little bit of trendy, casual, exciting, and eccentric rolled into one to produce a great result. It's easy to wander in and enjoy some live music, a cheap and casual drink, and an atmosphere that facilitates rambunctious fun as well as laid back conversation. Few venues can say they can successfully host both of those types of activities. Boundary, you have won my affections. read more

Hey now. Easy there. I, for one, have fully embraced the Boundary in all of it's manifestations. When I was a young, dumb lass with fire in the belly, I'd threaten myself with walking into the Boundary and having a pint with the gnarly looking locals who've been drinking in there day in and day out since who knows when. It always felt like the final frontier. Rough as guts, and good as it gets. Tiles on the wall, and no lights on down to the corridor leading to the ladies- because that's right, "we don't get that kind in here too often." Turns out the locals are for the most part, fine fellas, just a bit gruff on the outside. Then came the Boundary that didn't sleep. The owners had decided to clean the place up a bit, get in the likes of Mojo Webb to play there. Boy, there was no place else but the Boundary on a Sunday afternoon. What I loved most about this phase of the Boundary is that you'd get some of the hipper cats in town coming along, but you still had your 'couldn't give a shit' down to earth types who'd grab someone by the arm and lead them into a rambunctious do-si-do (and smash a few people in the ribs while they were at it) on the impromptu dance space in front of the band. People were always off tap, in the best way too. The Boundary became a place for everyone, not just those who braved it. The Boundary of now has recently (in the past year) undergone a thorough refurbishment. The front bar is still there; tattered, tacky, kind of dirty (just the way I like it), but out the back and up the stairs is a quite modern and lovely Australian rooftop beer garden. Plain and simple, it's a great place to have a drink. They've got long wooden outdoor tables, a smoking area, an enclosed area with pool table and a nice view down to Boundary Street, and a big long bar, full of your alcoholic needs. I love nothing more than wiling away an afternoon here. I will always have the Boundary's back. It's a local institution that I've always had a great time at. True, the Boundary's public bar may be a little confronting to a shrinking violet at around 3pm on a Wednesday, when tattooed day labourers stare through the passersby as the roll their White Ox prison-strength cigarettes. But wait, head past that and you'll find the slick, modern eatery and spacious upstairs beer garden. And in the public bar's defence, it does play host to some of the most ripping blues bands around town. For the open minded it's a place to get a drink at 'traditional' prices and meet a character or two. The chips were golden, crunchy, not too oily and went delightfully well with the garlic cream. The salad was a mix of lettuce leaves, red onion, alfalfa and finely chopped tomato with a tasty sweet dressing. However, the star of the show was the med-rare sirloin cooked to absolute perfection, something I've rarely found in even fine dining establishments in recent times. The Boundary Hotel is much like other hotel bars scattered through Brisbane. It is big with quite a few rooms and a few pool tables. It is quite good for after work drinks if you are near the West End. I went for the first time and decided to meet some friends who were there on a Wednesday night. We sat upstairs in the beer garden because it looked quite nice and it was busier than down stairs. We found out that on Wednesday nights they have a music based quiz night and its only 2 dollars entry. Whats even better is that you can win 100 dollars, and pitchers of beer. there were about 6 rounds and it was good fun. Sadly the 100 dollars went to some one else but i will be back to claim it someday. The food was disappointing to say the least, I got a burger because most of the time pub burgers are great. This time it was not, it was dry and tasted like charcoal, this was the same case with the steak sandwich which tasted like mint for some reason. Apart from the food its not a bad place to check out and try your hand at winning the 100 dollars and put your music knowledge to the test. read more

Went to the Latin day festivities the music was live and they were rockin a salsa band. Food ranged from Brazilian to Mexican and was genuine rather than the over spiced western versions. Bar area was clean and well lit and the dance floor was well maintained. read more

greatly disappointed with the security tonight, it was already pass 10pm and the kitchen was no longer serving food and we saw other customers bringing in food like pizza which they bought outside, they were not reprimanded, but when we brought in food which we were never told that it was not allowed upon entry by the security, after a couple of minutes we were rudely asked us to leave the premises ASAP, we told him that we would just throw away the food and just finish the drinks that we bought because they were still plenty left, but he insisted that we leave the premises right away, like WTF!?!? why where the other customers allowed we were not!?!? we were scolded like a freakin 3 year old and asked to leave immediately ‍ he said that this is a rule Australia wide, so we left and went to the pub infront and we asked if we could bring in the food, they said yeah no worries! ‍ We have been a loyal customer for years, we used to buy food outside whenever the kitchen was closed and we never ever did hear anything from security or any staff, so disappointed and disgusted of how we were treated tonight. read more
