Super Whatnot is super hot to trot! I love this quaint little hole in the wall bar. From eye catching decor to the sunken lounge, this bar puts its best foot forward with an American inspired menu and fantastic beer selection. Super Whatnot has a homely intimate feel and is ideal for a small group or casual date as seating is limited. I would jump at the chance to go back here and work my way through a few more craft beers or even lash out for a few cocktails which also looked delicious. If you're looking for something a little quirky with some real character without being too fancy then this place should feature in your shortlist. read more

Nearly $21 for a large chicken kebab on 16/12/23 at 11:00pm. Cost $2 for a sprinkle of cheese. Asked if I could get a little bit more cheese considering it cost an extra $2. Arrogant guy behind the counter says you've got enough cheese mate, then throws 3 big hand fulls of lettuce on top. If you want a lettuce kebab and shit customer service then spend your money at Oasis Kebabs on the water front in Cairns. Below average kebab. Don't waste your money on this place. Cheaper and better kebabs just up the road. read more

Austrian ski lodge interior & Latin kitchen? This place offers a strange mix in styles, but a great one. Excellent cocktails, great beer list (personally I love the stouts & porters), and good service. This place is quite small and gets often very busy, so experiences can be a bit variable. Fall break has officially begun, and since the girls have been eyeing Super Whatnot in the city, we decided on a low-key rendezvous there. The narrow entryway to this trendy bar is easy to miss. For one, it's located on Burnett Lane, an alleyway off of Queen Street and George. The lighting is dim, making the entrance unassuming and even more difficult to find, but this definitely isn't stopping it from being a popular hangout spot! The ambience of the bar is a relaxed, warm one, which I immediately liked. The brocade couches, wooden panels, day of the dead skulls, and picture of a deer on the wall did it for us! We ordered a few plates of nibbles along with our beer, which were all pretty decent. We had the Pao de Queijo (9), a Brazilian cheese bread, which was essentially a cheese flavored mochi bread ball. It was freshly made and had a nice crunch on the outside, with a chewy bread center. The Nachos Locos with beef (14) weren't quite as impressive, as they were a bit dry, as one of us pointed out, and the portion was just a bit small for what we were paying for (even for Oz!). Lastly, we had the Rasta Chicken (11), a crunchy Jamaican peppered chicken drumsticks, which came with "Bob Sauce." The chicken itself was nice and crunchy on the outside, but the highlight was definitely the sauce. I didn't pay attention to what it was, but it was good! Overall, the food was quite decent, along with the place itself. My only complaint was that the food took over 20, maybe even 25 minutes, to arrive. It wasn't busy at all, so I wonder at why their service was a bit slack. Either way, I would definitely recommend this place for a drink if you're in the city, as they also serve a variety of cocktails. read more

This guy is an up and comer. I saw Super Whatnot pop up on Facebook as a new place down Burnett Lane in the city - an after-product of a failed laneway project attempt - and I think it's utilised its space well. It's hard to believe that this little space used to be a storage area for a hairdressing salon, and I think it serves a much greater (and more lucrative) purpose now. I visited it on a Friday night so naturally, there were more older people here after work or having a night out. It seems like upstairs is an area occupied by the younger and downstairs by the older. Funny, that. Downstairs has lounges that wrap around the perimeter of the room while upstairs has more of a bar setting with bar stools and a really impressive and intricate design that forms the balcony barrier. Anyway, after having a turf war with a lady over a stool (seriously calm down, it's just a tool) my group and I managed to nestle into a corner and enjoy the ambiance. You can get a pipsqueak cider for $7, which was definitely my number one option. I like the place, but I'm not overly enthusiastic about it. It's still a young venue, still finding its feet, so I'll be really interested to see how it pans out and what type of venue it establishes itself as. I will say this, on a quieter night, I think the upstairs area would be a nice place for quiet conversation or a more intimate setting. read more

Set along Burnett Lane you had me from the moment I walked in your former beauty school storage doors and I certainly didn't feel like a drop out as I sipped cocktails (The Walking Dead and The Baron enticed me on name alone) and dined on your 'Americana' bar menu (mmm, organic cornbread) in your upstairs alcove. Surrounded by a larger than life image of a deer head and with cute cacti hanging from the ceiling it kind of felt like being indulged in a New York Loft meets Mid-West saloon. It does get crowded quickly with its 60-person only capacity, however, that said we visited on a Tuesday evening and there was plenty of room! read more

My colleague and I came here for mid-afternoon beers while on the job in the city. I'd been down this Melbourne-esque laneway so many times before - mostly to get to Brew - so I was intrigued by this hole in the wall bar. The guy at the bar knows his beers. They have rotating craft beers on tap and I had some guacamole. The beer was good, the chips and dip were fine. About half an hour into our visit one of the staff brought us a new mexican dip he'd made to try out. It was pretty tasty! A nice place to duck into and have some drinks if you're in the CBD - I wouldn't make a special trip there though. read more

One night I was there I got some beer advice from the bartender and, at the end of the night, was provided a promotional package from the brewery. Really cool! This place was packed out on a Friday night. It wasn't even that late, I think a lot of people hit it up after work. I had an espresso martini that was pretty good and the guacamole and chips...maybe try something else? I spend a lot of my waking hours in the city. Mostly this is because I work in the city. But there are a few places - those city gems - that lure me in outside working hours. And it's these establishments that I am so grateful for. Super Whatnot is one of these. I've swung by a handful of times after work for various gab fests with girlfriends or catch ups with people I'm working on projects with and it is an utter delight. Having recently returned to Brisbane from living in New York, I'm very pleased that a bar like this exists. For me, it bridges the void I occasionally feel between a life in New York and a life in Brisbane. At Super Whatnot you can sit, talk to the bartender and enjoy some delicious beverages in an intimate and relaxed space. The music is good and the crowd is neither pretentious nor too boisterous. Although, it can get a little packed on a Friday night - especially when it reaches the 60-person capacity. But Super Whatnot is a post-work drinks type of place, so people generally start leaving before 8pm to head to dinner. Speaking of which, I would fully encourage you to try something from the food menu. The cornbread just about made me weep with delight. Served with some delicious bean concoction - it really was a spectacular surprise. I would have ordered two serves had I known how good it was. There are a couple places where my beer fanatic friends love to go and Super Whatnot is definitely one of them. Come here to try the 3 rotating beers that they've got on tap. I've had a great range of beers here from some delicious hoppy IPA to smooth dark dunkels. Highly recommended for after work drinks and 'slightly' classy affairs such as company happy hours or team drinks. I've heard a lot of talk about Super Whatnot but rarely find myself in the city. So I only just checked it out this week. It was a bitter sweet experience. The fitout is gorgeous, I hear the space used to be a loading dock and they have done a magnificent job turning it into a stylish and yet cosy space. The drinks we had were good, with average prices for a city venue. The food was a completely different matter. My friend ordered the Mexican Hotwings and the Tortilla Chips with Guacamole at just over $20. They arrived beautifully presented but the serving was tiny and the food quality average at best. $11 for FOUR wings? The guacamole was bland and I just can't understand how you can do bad guacamole, that stuff is magical. It was a quiet Wednesday night, but I don't like a lot of hustle & bustle so I was grateful for the ample choice of seating. And I do love a sunken lounge, so sinking into yours was a real treat. You had Bacchus Oatmeal Stout on tap, which was good, because your cocktail list was a little short - but your collection of spirits seemed full. Should I have just asked for a negroni? I usually find that a good enough way to test the calibre of bartender (who was friendly enough on our Wednesday night date, if a little cool)... Okay, Super Whatnot (can I call you Super?). In recent years it is difficult to find a place in the City CBD to go for a relaxed nice drink. Specially with Coles and Woolworths buying into more and more venues venues in Brisbane, bringing their perspective of quantity over quality. Bars like Super Whatnot offer that exact opposite. Serving quality, alternative and different Wines, Spirits and Beer. All this made possible through the small bar license (60 person capacity ** This has now been changed to 100 person license, although you wouldn't want that many people in there at once). Super Whatnot is a hole-in-the-wall bar. The decor and ambiance will immediately entice you to think you may have stepped into a bar in Manhattan (Or as a lot of Australian's refer to as, something from Melbourne). Practically the whole place has an amazing beautiful wood, iron decor, neat, modern design with great soft lighting. I was looking for a couple of quick afternoon beers in the CBD before heading over to South Bank. I was looking for somewhere that wasn't in the mall and wasn't Brew. Super Whatnot gave me what I was looking for. You need to get here early though. The place is tiny and fills up in no time. Thankfully the bar guy asked some other customers to shuffle along the bar so we could take up a stool and settle in to sample the fine range. I love this place - a nice small hole-in-the-wall sort of place that is so far removed from your typical Brisbane/Queensland experience which is thankful. Very Melbourne. While there is beer on offer, I much prefer to go from their selection of wines, and have a really good conversation with guests in the amazing ambience of warm low-light, rustic design, that sunken lounge which is always so appealing and some good company. The bar staff are always pleasant and professional, and paying a visit always makes me feel that much more happier during my stay in Brisbane. There is a reason this place is packed every time I come. With a great beer list, gourmet eats (masquerading as 'bar food') and really REALLY great beats, Super Whatnot rocks my socks. The bar tenders are all really emotionally invested in whether or not you are enjoying what they prepare you, going to great lengths to describe what is on tap, what is a house favourite, and what they would personally drink. And don't even get me started on the Wagyu Burger $13. Sometime you just wanna jazz it up, and when you do, you get this burger. So happy to have finally tried out Super Whatnot. While I think the name is a bit redic, the vibe is excellent for a chilled out spot in the city. I've heard it gets quite over crowded on the weekend but on this Origin Wednesday, it's quiet and lovely. We tried the current beer on tap which was the Bacchus Brewing oatmeal stout and was so excellent. Will definitely come back for some of the delicious looking meals (I'm looking at you, Black Bean Soup). They had managed to run out of both tonic and apple juice however, which was disappointing for my gin drinking husband, but they made up for it with a great gin, lime and soda. read more

If you're proud to be a Brisbanite and you love watching your city grow into a thriving, sexy metropolis brimming with nightlife, then you need to try out this latest bar called Super Whatnot. It's hard to find this obscure bar set up in the hollow shell of an old beauty school. There's no signage out the front -whether or not this is because they've just opened last week and they're not fully furnished remains to be seen. They could be just trying to maintain their mystique. They are located halfway down Burnett lane, right next to the German sausage place. For those who don't know where Burnett Lane is, it's on Albert Street, towards the Adelaide Street end of the mall. Super Whatnot boasts a small but impressive lists of boutique beers and wines at a reasonable price. Being a cider addict, I was pretty pleased to find Dirty Granny on the menu but that didn't stop me from trying a classic chardonnay. It's hard to find chardonnays on bar menus these days as they tend to be overshadowed by pinots and sauvignon blancs. I was pleased to find that their chardonnay had that delicious lingering toasted popcorn taste. It was the perfect venue for lazy afternoon drinks with girlfriends, sipping Chardonnay in a private alcove which opened up onto Burnett Lane, while Nat King Cole crooned quietly in the background. I'm hoping this place won't turn into a big party bar too soon but maintain an eclectic collection of passer bys from all walks of life. Photos for this awesome bar will follow.
