My partner and I decided to give this establishment a try, as we often drive past it, and we had an Entertainment Book voucher for 25% off. We called ahead to book a table, though when we arrived we realised that it was more of a fast food establishment than a restaurant. The waitress was very friendly, she provided us with the menus and explained how we needed to go up to the counter to place the order. She recommended that we try the Pit Master Pack, since we had not eaten there before. This goes for $59.95, and the two cans of soft drink ended up costing a good $7. The Pit Master Pack consisted of ribs, quite a few buffalo wings, hand pulled pork, coleslaw and fries. It is a good serving for two people. I am not the biggest chicken wing fan, though enjoyed them, apart from there being a bit too much sauce. We chose the cheese covered fries, though they weren't that great, we probably should have gone with the plain fries. The food was nice, though far from mind blowing, which made the pricing hard to justify. We left a bit unsatisfied in terms of how full we were, and how much everything cost, even with the voucher. I personally wouldn't visit here again, it is not for me. I would only recommend this establishment to someone who was really into buffalo wings and ribs. read more

I must admit my first impression of this American-themed eatery were spoiled by bill-shock. When the girl told me how much our hot dog, Po'-boy and fries was I literally swore out loud! Seriously, the food here is not cheap. BUT - it is bloody good. When our order arrived my eyes drank in the beauty of my pulled beef roll, while hubby rubbed his hands with glee over his chilli hot dog and loaded fries. And the first bite made the pain of the cost fade away- amazing. Well worth it! In fact despite being hungry I I couldn't eat the whole thing as the servings are generous. When this joint first opened there were lines out the door and long waits, but we were one of only three diners at lunchtime today. The cute checked tablecloths and mustard with ketchup on the tables adds to the US of A atmosphere, the only downside to the location on a nice day is being serenaded by the traffic on the main road. Two thumbs up for the food. My wallet is still hurting but at least I'm so full I won't want dinner tonight. read more

I believe in giving restaurants second chances. I've eaten here twice. And as a homesick American I looked forward to getting a taste of home. This is definitely not a taste of America. I've had wings both times. They were not crispy and the sauce was nothing to comment on. I got cheese fries which was absolutely terrible. Soggy fries smothered in an inedible amount of cheese. It wasn't good. The Mac and cheese is saddening. You're 100% better off just cooking easy mac. Seriously. Mac and cheese is my comfort food. And it's pretty hard to mess up, but they have. Again I gave this place two chances. I went shortly after it opened and again a few months later. To add insult to injury their prices were pretty high for what you can easily get at other places in and around Brisbane and much more appetizing. read more

I read the reviews here before going, but we gave Pit Boss the benefit of the doubt despite them. I got buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing and my partner got ribs. The food came out quickly which for barbecue is a bit of a concern. My wings were ok, but had clearly been pre-prepared and then heated again. The blue cheese dressing had good flavour but was extremely watery, so I couldn't get a good coating of sauce; it kept dripping off. My partner's ribs were foul. I don't know how they managed to both have it tough and dried out. Like the wings, it had been prepared long before serving, but the problem was it wasn't even well prepared in the first place. The sauce didn't add anything to the ribs; if anything it made them worse. Lastly, service. The guy taking orders at the counter with the red beard, great service, nice attitude. The waitress who brought out food kept coming to our table at 5 minute intervals to see if there was anything she could collect from our table. After the third visit it was getting ridiculous and we couldn't even enjoy our sub-par food in peace. The most absurd point of the night was when she came to our table and I was eating, with knife and fork in my hands. My partner was eating corn on the cob. "Have you finished, can I take anything?" I didn't even know how to respond except "No, we are still in the middle of eating." I think we were in and out in under 45 minutes. Not only did we get crap food, we were not even able to relax in each other's company. I gave two stars not one because counter guy and the buffalo wing flavour pushed it up a bit. We came here due to the shows on the telly introducing us to American BBQ. Expecting a real adventure into our good friends overseas eating habits. I think I'll stick to Mackas. The place was very neat and not really busy, parking was okay and the staff fine. It seems it is tradition to get a "introduction pack" for beginners as we were told nicely by the young lady helping us. So we did what we were told and got one. At just over $50 it was a feast for two people covering the main dishes they serve. Pork ribs, pulled pork . Coleslaw, buffalo wings and chicken wings. All served with fries. Now I think about it I got chicken wings and Roast pork two ways ! The fries were just eatable and the pulled pork too sweet. The ribs were overly covered in sauce and quite difficult to seperate as you couldn't tell how to cut them. The buffalo wings were less than exciting as were the chicken wings. We were covered in sauce and wore most of our food as there was little in the way of help in keeping this overly sauced mess off ourselves. We got a sarcastic remark when the waitress asked what we wanted at table , we told her and then she commented there was no table service! We took heaps home and it really could of fed 2-4 people, we threw it all in the bin at home. Not going back. read more

I'm only giving one star because there isn't an option to go lower. I Went there with a groups of friends for our first time on a Saturday which I expected to be a night where they do a large amount of business, hence bringing their A game. To be fair the food did arrive quickly which only made sense once you bit into it to discover cold wings and ludicrously dried ribs which had clearly been sitting on the counter for 45 minutes. While I'm a true believer in second chance for restaurants I don't think I could convince myself to chew the gristle that was their 'ribs'. I honestly got confused between the meat and the bones and spent 3 minutes trying to cut into the bone before giving up only to realise it was the meat. I'm honestly confounded that it has a good a rating as it does, as people must be use to chew through the ass end of a tin can. In summary if you eat here, would recommend taking up the byo part and getting sh*tfaced before eating there because at least you would black out and not remember that night that was Pit boss ! read more

Previously bookmarking this place and driving past on the weekend prompted me to stop in and try to soak up some of Saturday nights drinking efforts with some comfort food. It's true what they say "First impressions last" and being greeted by an unhappy server provided the tone for the occasion with simple questions being responded to with an attitude not conducive to a happy dining experience. That aside food was delivered promptly with us having to scramble to find cutlery and napkins- as there was none provided nor any info on how to obtain said eating equipment- how did it taste? Nothing really jumped out flavour wise with the Roast Beef Po' Boy tasting bland and the chili cheese fries although under cooked tasted OK, just lacked general OOMPH! The side of Chicken was cooked well, the addition of BBQ sauce being the saving grace when it came to the addition of flavour required when chowing down on Southern Style 'Q'. Will I go back? No, well, not immediately. The restaurant was empty when visiting and whilst on this occasion had the service not let them down and the lack of wings (Sold out!?) This is the worst food I have ever tasted. Honestly. Ever. The wings were cold and tasted like flour. Ribs were obviously confused with brisket. Chilli fries were made up of out of date cheese with soggy potatoes. I live for ribs. I live for wings. After this experience I've lost all hope in ribs and wings... I'm not mad... Not worth it! While the price of the food is ok compared to the godfather of American food in Brisbane, the Smoke in New Farm, the food is defiantly not worth it. The ranch sauce complimented the wings, the hotdog was just enough cheesyness, burger was tasty with a capital T. I'm so sad. As a huuuge fan of American food, I was quite excited about this place. When we arrived there was a line out the door, and the staff must be commended for their cool heads, excellent customer service skills, and timely preparation. We were in and out in well under 25 minutes. We ordered corn bread, chilli cheese fries, and southern fried chicken as take away, which was reasonably well priced for two people, and was brought out to us where we were waiting. The first thing we noticed, after sitting down in a nearby park, was that we didn't have napkins or cutlery, and from there it all went downhill. The food lacked seasoning and that authentic flavour I'd been craving. The dipping sauces were nothing special, and it was a bit too greasy for my liking. After touring the states this year and sampling some of the authentic BBQ. Was excited to try this place. Let down 1.Mac & cheese is hard to screw up. They did. No cheese flavour. 2.Pulled pork was nice but drenched in BBQ sauce and spring onions ?? 3. Ribs cooked well but again no flavour 4. Servings for sides were underwhelming the "potato" was lacklustre. 1 small potato 5. Good serving size for chicken wings. 6. No southern baked beans on the menu. 7. Ordered delivery at 3pm. Delivered at 4pm, via menu log, which I didn't use. Ordered a $60 pack and no napkins were included. The pork ribs were as dry as they come despite the early hour. The loaded fries were soggy and cold. I would recommend cooking your own version in a slow cooker. I made the mistake of assuming these cuts of meat were slow smoked.... of which they are not. Instead they are slow cooked and soaked in sauce to imitate an "American style pit BBQ" Honestly, don't waste your money. Buy a smoker and enjoy real slow cooked American style meats! read more

Stupidly over-priced. A pulled-pork burger with fries costs $18.99. A pulled pork sandwich from Rudy's in the US costs $4.99. Factoring in exchange rate and a side of adequate fries.....I think these guys are screwing you for around $7 or $8. The atmosphere is also zero. Lacks colour and warmth. Drove past a few times and decided to check it out. I ordered buffalo wings, southern fried wings, and ribs for one. Ribs were ok but not spicy even tho I ordered the spicy ones, the cheesy fries hat came with the ribs was good (but it shouldn't be rocket science to do anyway). The wings were too bland, the spicy ones were not spicy either. They charged me for a couple of extras without telling me, they asked me to choose from the options without mentioning it was all extra (the bacon on the cheesy fries and some seasoning, total of 6$, how is that justified ??????) The corn that came with the ribs was extremely bad I just smelled it and threw it out, it was soggy, smelled old, and I think reheated in the microwave. Utterly unacceptable, especially for the prices they charge. I will not be going back. read more

I ordered the pulled pork burger with fries as a taste trial on whether to come back for ribs as I've been hankering for good BBQ since living in the US. Sadly I ordered it to go as I would have taken it back. The bun was stale, the meat was tepid and bland. I was concerned I might get food poisoning but luckily escaped that pleasure. The slaw was minimal and wilted. The fries were the best part and they were mostly inedible. I tossed most of the "food" at my next stop because I couldn't force myself to eat it even though I was quite hungry. My recommendation is to keep driving. I won't give this lower, since I did order the food for delivery, and therefore cannot review the staff. The food here is very disappointing. I've bought better chips in the freezer aisle, the ranch tasted like straight up vinegar, and the burger (I had the buffalo chicken) was very lacking. The bun was plain, cheap, white bread. The actual chicken was somewhat decent, but the burger as a whole was very bland. With so many great burger joints popping up in Brisbane, you really need to step up your game. The first rib I tried was like beef jerky, the pulled pork had 2 overdried lumps in it and the chicken wings were tough. none of these had the BBQ smoked flavour BUT the marinade on the ribs was delicious! Dreadful, you'd be better off eating a sh1t sandwich served in a dirty ashtray. I ordered the pulled pork for two(takeaway)which was $25 on the menu. There was series if unintelligible questions about options which raised the price to $29 dollars... When I asked why I got an eye roll and an unintelligible exasperated answer. As my order was bagged up there was a small container off greasy pork drowned in BBQ sauce, a small container with two tiny potatoes sour cream and four dark crumbs which I can only assume was bacon... And a container of chips.i complained that was Slack for almost $30 ...more eye rolling. Eventually I suggested they add bread rolls so at least it looked like a meal.. The person behind the counter disappeared into the kitchen and after some swearing.. They charged me 50c each for two. The food was disgusting.the attitude was worse. Well Just had a very unforgettable lunch at Pit Boss .The small amount of pulled beef with a dried out small piece of corn was without much flavour and the corn resembled something out of the frozen corn package that had been left in the water to keep warm . One of the young ladies at our table paid for a piece as a side and was charged $4.50 . I was outrageous given the size 50mm length a whole cob would have been more appropriate given what is generally acknowledged a serve . The size of the serve for the price was not anywhere near generous which you expect at equivalent American BBQ place . I recently dined in a restaurant in Denver called Southern Hospitality this was what real BBQ was all about. 1 star is too generous Pit Boss is definitely not worth a second or first visit .
