Oozing trendy loft style with a bit of ski château-chic, this swanky bar did nothing but impress from the moment we walked in. The exceptionally friendly staff, creative (and potent) cocktails, gorgeous fit out, and some really swoon-inducing menu items (think: Kentucky Fried Duck and the aforementioned truffle mac 'n' cheese) quickly proved that the substance matched the style. From the samplings I indulged in, I reckon I could have ordered page one of the gorgeous leather bound menu and been continually impressed - it's just a good thing that the menu items are all intended to share as the mysterious three letter menu descriptions piqued all of our foodie fetishes. Can't wait to see more from these guys!

Public continued to woo me with their gin cocktails (try the Space Gin Smash or Public Nuisance) and no one should leave this inner-city dwelling without trying at least a mouthful of their truffle mac 'n' cheese. The space is part city loft, part English manor and to their credit you feel comfortable enough in the high-back wicker "thrones", as I'll call them, to potentially outstay your welcome (not that the wait staff would make you feel that way. To be honest for most of the evening it was list we were talking to an old friend each time the waiter came around.) The menu is designed to be shared and on the night we visited became quite the conversation point between the group. With only three word descriptions your imagination is given permission to run wild as you concoct images of the food you will receive. The KFD (Kentucky Fried Duck) won a lot of admiration as did the simple and rustic baked beans served in a tin. This is one new Brisbane venue that is testament to our city growing up and coming into its own.

Working next door, I had hoped for a quality burger place to visit that was not Miel Container. In…read morethe end it was a disappointing experience, or as others that joined us referred to "below Grill'd" standard. The decor is brilliant - I believe it was designed by a interior design firm. They take a lot of cues from most modern fitouts (subway tiles, etc) I ordered "The Master" which was their "standard" burger for $12. I like to order the basic burgers so I can fairly compare to other venues. As it arrived to our table the first thing we all noticed was the colour of the meat: pale, grey "beef" The burger came with the pickle pinned to the top, which in theory is a great way to keep the pickles separate if you're not a fan of pickles - but that only works if you drain the pickle before you pin it. Instead, the pickle juice made a soggy brioche bun. The burger itself was about room temperature, but then again, it was a hot day in Brisbane? The meat was the real disappointment. It was pale, grey and so very, very flavourless. I thought they might have mixed up our orders and given us all pork or chicken mince patties instead (4 of us got the same basic burger) but when I asked to clarify they insisted it was beef. One of our mates got the "Master Tom" which came with a dark beef mince patty. The Master burger is supposedly a lean mince patty, which is fine, but it flaked apart like you were eating fish! As a whole, the burger was then wet and sloppy (juicy patty) and the only flavour was a mild mayonnaise. We ordered dirty fries and they were OK - cheese and caramelised onions, but the chips they use are strangely dry. I'll revisit with another burger soon but I would recommend hastily replacing The Master.

Every item I tried was tasty and nicely presented. Good quality, especially the breakfast sandwiches and the eggs Benedict options. Smoothies were tasty and coffee was good. Fast service and nice options, I'd recommend stopping into this joint for a quick bite!
