A lot of fun Came here for a work lunch and it was great - service, drinks and food. A work colleague booked for 15 and we had tables reserved in the beer garden under shade (the only down was the afternoon sun did sneak in and summer heat found us after a hour - shade was cool direct sun not). Service is a choice of the old fashion walk up and order at counter, get given a number on a stand or if you have your phone you can scan the QR code on the table pull up menu, order and pay. I did the last and had my burger in good time - bit of wait on the "Parma" for some who did counter orders but we all had food and drinks in reasonable time. Great range of beverages - what you would expect for a city pub. Finished the time with a coffee - not the worst not the best. Pig and Whistle is a nice place to grab a bite and a beer. I settled on the chicken curry with naan. For my beer I ordered the speckled hen. The curry was more of a British version rather than an Indian version, which makes since if you're a fan of Indian food. The curry was very flavorful, but the naan was a bit off. Not exactly an issue as this is not an Indian restaurant so you get what you get. The live music was entertaining for most of the restaurant patrons and the overall vibe was good. Some members of my party tried the beef pie which got a good response and the steak looked delicious; maybe I'll try it next time. The table enjoyed some calamari as an appetizer. The calamari was lightly breaded and held the spongy texture of squid cooked just right. read more

Big brother to the nearby outlet on Queen St Mall, this English pub caters for a much larger crowd and is the ideal location to watch a footy match (footy in this case referring to soccer, less so to rugby). The majority of the staff hail from the UK, so it's easy to get caught up in a heated argument over whether Manchester United or Arsenal are a better side, or whether cider is a girls' drink or a guys' drink. There are plenty of cosy booths to down a sneaky pint and chow into traditional British fare (think the likes of roasts, bangers and mash and of course, chicken tikka masala). Everyone has a guilty pleasure. Pig N Whistle on Eagle Street is mine. It's your standard pub. Standard booze. Standard people. But what drags me in, what pulls me in, holds my heart are the tunes. Let me set the scene. It's 11pm, I've had a couple of drinks, not too many, but enough to make me laugh a little more. My friend has gone to the PnW to meet some friends. I have yet to experience such a pub in QLD. I walk in and try to convince everyone to come to the next bar with me. I'm presented with a drink. And then it happens. Who could have known? Mambo. Mambo #5. Something comes over me. I throw my drink down on the table and grab my friend. She has no idea what's happening. I pull her onto the dance floor and it begins. Every word. Every dance move. In sync with the video playing behind me. Same again with the next song. And the next. And the next. My only saving grace is a terrible song and I am pulled back to reality. I get off the stage, smoothing my hair and adjusting my leather pants. Casually, we walk back to our table, finish our drinks and leave. Was this a one time deal? No. It was not. This Pig n Whistle serves a specific purpose. And it serves it well. Let us never speak of me dancing to Mambo #5 again. read more

As a mad MMA fan, the P 'n' Dub is known throughout the Brisbane fight scene as one of the only bars that play all the UFC's via Main Event. This is a true sports bar and although miles away from where I live, our group will usually make the trek into the city to chow down, drink and watch the best sport in the world! Having worked in the city, I think originally the P 'n' Dub tried to use the whole Irish feel, but gave up and now its just a great Friday arvo pub for the corporate's, a good starting place before heading out, and the best MMA pub in Brisbane City. The food is normal pub food, big plates lots of good beer soaking grub but nothing to rave about. Pommy beers a plenty and believe it or not, this place actually makes a mean coffee! If you are looking for a loud, sporty pub where many start their Friday arvo/nights on the booze, this is it. If you're a football fanatic or MMA nut, this is also your pub. read more

2 stars for some staff who are pretty polite, and the hot chips are good. Most of your patrons/CUSTOMERS who visit your establishment are not slobbering drunks looking for a lay. The entitled barchild that served me last night was so f'ing rude if manners and politeness came and slapped him in the face he wouldn't even know what it is. Although not required in Oz I usually tip bar staff change from a $50 out of a drink or 2, ya missed out barbaby. Pretty disappointing, you have one job, customer service keep the customers coming back, it's not rocket science ha know, this customer is wavering whether to return or not. Either they were completely understaffed, or completely underestimated the volume of Canucks celebrating Canada Day. Either way, it was disappointing. We arrived at 1pm, and we were informed that they were out of perogies, only to find out later that we were mis-informed. We ordered the pouting. It was okay. What was really disappointing is that the service was really disorganised and/or non-existent. The dishes and glasses piled up at our booth. We eventually lined up our glasses on the ledge, and flagged someone down to clear our oversized plates. Drink line-ups were long, but we didn't mind. Gave us a chance to meet and greet. The Caesars were quite good. Hats off to them for making them! A good time was had by all. I'd like to think the service is better on any other day. I love the location. It's right off of the river. Great Place to watch Sports. What ever sport it is they are playing. I love to go there to watch the UFC or just a normal football match. (Theres always a TV near by so you don't have to fight for a good spot) The food usually take a little while to come in so I'd recommend you to have a snack before you go there to watch your favourite sport. read more

We came here for a UFC fight and it was a great spot. I'd recommend getting here really early if you're hoping to have a seat to watch something they are airing. The drinks were great and the food was really food. We had beer, wine, and fish and chips. The fish and chips were excellent. Not a single complaint. The food did take a really long time to come out though. It was also painfully warm inside. We were there on a particularly warm day in Brisbane, but they didn't have the windows and doors closed with the AC on as they should have. Everyone was sticky, sweaty, and uncomfortable. Had lunch here. Quite noisy (to be expected of an English pub style restaurant). Good service, good seating and good atmosphere. I had two entrees instead of a main. The Spring rolls and wontons were not too bad. The sauce was hot and the wontons a little soggy. The mushroom arancini balls were a revelation. Crispy, moist inside and a lovely mushroom taste. Absolutely loved them! Mum had the 1/2 chicken and chips. Chicken needed seasoning, was a little dry and was served on an awkward plate with the chips squashed underneath. Coleslaw was tangy and well balanced. The jus was a little lack lustre. Chips were very nice. Moving on to dessert. We both ordered the frangelico mousse and were blown away by the size and exquisiteness of this confection. Had to box most of it up and take it home with us. A final note- our server was a young lass who did an outstanding job (she even noticed my empty lemonade glass and came over promptly to ask if I would like another. Very well done. read more

The actual bathroom seems to be nicer and kept cleaner. The alcohol is a pretty standard price for the city. Pints of cider are pretty good value. Positive or negative depending on how you want to look at it, I was told, when asking for a schooner, that they only do pints. Staff weren't particularly friendly but they definitely weren't rude. Pig n Whistle is a fairly iconic bar based on the edge of Eagle Street. There's something refreshing about watching sport at a sports bar. Perhaps it's the camaraderie or the atmosphere, or even the easy access to the bar? Either way it's a great little pub and one that's worth checking out when you can. I recommend going down during the soccer season (English, not local). It's absolutely hilarious to see old men give each other hell. You can buy food as well, and they do make a mean pork belly. Why is there a giraffe in the Pig N Whistle? Or elephant for that matter? These are questions that constantly enter my mind when I venture into the beer garden of this pub. You would think that maybe a statue of a pig would be more fitting but these sculptures are pretty rad nonetheless. The Pig N Whistle is a great place to casually meet a group of friends for a brew and watch some soccer. They serve a pretty decent pub meal too. The servings were massive and I could not even get through my whole Chicken Parma. They will have some live music in the afternoon but I tend not to listen so much and opt for a cosy booth and some soccer instead. The place is massive with multiple inside and outside areas and bars. They also have a strange bathroom area where the sinks are unisex and outside of the bathroom. I hate to think what germs stay on the door but then again when have pub bathrooms ever been that hygienic? I must say the funny thing about shared sinks is that you can see the girls give the guys dirty looks when we know for certain they haven't washed their hands!!!! I went here for dinner last night. We had been jumping around having a few beers and decided it was time for a bite to eat. The location had great outdoor seating which was crowed so we went inside. We were quickly greater and taken to a table. The waitress was attentive and service was quick and with no issues. The menu had a wide selection of appetizers and mains. I had the pig and whistle burger with a fried egg added. This turned out to be a big burger and very good. Good beer selection as well. I would go back and try to have a sunny day to sit outside. Told the waitress that we were missing a drink, we asked her to take our order for our next round in case it was another 25 minutes. The waitress reassured that this would not be the case again as the first time was due to a "back up" at the bar. The guest who was missing her drink from the first round told the waitress not to worry about hers that was missed and went to the bar to get her own. She returned to table in two minutes with her drink. Sure enough, after being reassured that it would not take as long this time, it was another 20-25 minutes before drinks were served. In between we were going to the bar and getting our own drinks which took us 2-4 minutes each visit. After over an hour our main meals arrived at which point we reminded staff that our entree hadn't yet come. The waitress returned with the entree saying it was there but just forgotten about. Upon tasting this starter, it was cold. At this point, very underwhelmed by both the service and food, we proceeded to ask for the bill. The bill had charged for two drinks that had been cancelled during our slow service and the drink that was never delivered during the first round. When questioned about these extra charges, no apologies were issued, only arguments and justifications. Multiple staff discussed the situation between themselves and reported to the "manager" who was in our plain line of sight but remained inside whispering directions to the poor hapless staff who he sent back to our table time after time. This process wasted another 25 minutes of our time. Finally after multiple back and forth visits to our table, the bill was corrected but absolutely no apologies were issued and certainly no discount. The group of 6 at our table dine out frequently and in many different cities and countries and have all concurred that this was, without doubt, the poorest service that they had ever received. Overpriced, under-serviced and unapologetic. It was astounding how service staff immediately had such a adversarial attitude to the people they are paid to wait on. read more

Great new(ish) bar on Brunswick. They do jugs of beer which I respect, nice outdoor areas to sip , and food is supposed to be good , although I haven't tried because it's quite pricey for a bar. Been there a few times and had a guy playing guitar in corner, good music and vibe. Can get a bit crowded at night, I prefer to start night there or go on weekdays when quieter. read more

Went here for the Super Bowl Party. They serve wings WITHOUT ranch dressing... they don't carry any ranch at all - MASSIVE FAIL. They could at least get some in for this particular event. Took an hour to get the serving of chips to our table and over an hour and a half to get the wings. The bar ran out of Hahn Premium a 2 or 3 hours into the event. 6 of 8 bathroom stalls had ZERO toilet paper - and that was at the start of the day! TV's REALLY need upgrading. Heard of HD?? Same goes for the crappy speakers. Poor set up for sports events - you find a good seat just to have drunks come and stand directly in front of you blocking the view of the TV - having said that, there are definitely NOT enough TVs to make this a good sports bar. TVs should be everywhere and clearly viewable (and audible) from ALL tables and seats. read more

Pig 'N' Whistle has no shame in admitting what it is. A rough and very loud bar for older ladies and gentlemen looking to get completely written off. The dance floor will be filled with older people who obviously thought they could handle more of their alcohol. The bar will be four people deep with patrons looking to take advantage of the cheap beer and the tables and booths will be filled with drunken conversation desperately trying to be louder than whatever the Top 40 was that weekend thats blasting through the speakers. However the nights that I will go to the Pig are ones that feature some kind of sporting event. The last Wallabies game against the Welsh was a fantastic night filled with extremely drunk Welshmen and women and drunken shouts as we managed to just beat them at Cardiff Stadium. If your not going to the game live, then this might just be the nearest thing. read more

I'm in Brisbane for a work trip and was brought here by my coworkers who've frequented this pub the last 2 nights and sad to say but won't be coming back again. Our server was a delight the entire time taking our order l, checking up on us, and even though the food was not good, things took a turn for the worst when it came time for the bill. Because we are here on business, we needed the check to be split for each of us to claim our portion. Apparently this is hard work for this particular server even though the servers my coworkers had the last 2 nights were capable of doing this extremely difficult task. Needless to say, after refusing to pay this as one bill without an itemized receipt, we were angrily thrown (I kid you not) the bill onto our table.
