Our annual trip to the redwoods is not complete without a scoop from this place! They have an ever changing menu with some unique flavors (Honey Vanilla Lavender is sooo good!) and they always have a nondairy option. They have handmade waffle bowls/cones that have the perfect amount of sweetness. The ice cream is made with locally sourced ingredients and have a fresh taste. The ice cream here is pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I haven't had issues with the people that work there as they all have been nice. My main issues are 1) how expensive it is for such a small amount of ice cream, 2) they change their flavors but it isn't consistent when they will change, and 3) the hours are all over the map. Closing at 7 on a weekday but 10pm on Sunday night? It makes no sense. That is on top of the multiple times I've tried to come here but they have some weird hours like closing early for someone's birthday or fathers/Mother's Day? And they of course don't answer the phone or post the change of hours to their Facebook. So can I say to come here for the ice cream? Sure...but it's Russian roulette if they will even be open when you get there. read more

I love ice cream, I try a lot of different ice cream and I'm usually never disappointed. I went here and the workers looked annoyed. I ordered a single scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough, disgusting. I've tried many cookie dough flavors before, even the low calorie cookie dough ice cream is better than this one. It was SO SALTY and disgusting. I went up there after I took a few licks forcing myself to maybe like it, I told them it was really salty and I didn't like it and I asked for a different cone, expecting to not have to pay for it, because what kind of cookie dough ice cream is super salty, I obviously didn't expect that which is why I didn't need to taste test it first. The workers gave me dirty looks and got my new scoop of vanilla ice cream (super super bland btw but I didn't wanna take my chances on something salty again) and I had to pay over $5 for an even smaller scoop of what they gave me first. However lately every time I go in the specific people working are often so rude. YUMMMMM!!! Arcata Scoop is definitely a must stop spot when we visit. The ice cream is always incredible, the flavors on point, and the service excellent. And today was no exception. There was four people in front of us, and about 9 more came after! My husband got the peach ice cream and said it was very fresh, creamy, and tasted very peachy. My son got the vanilla and loved it. My daughter got the cookies n' cream and also loved it. I got a single scoop, which I got split into two kids scoop, one scoop of cookies n' cream, one scoop of coffee. The cookies n' cream was so smooth and the cookie chunks were huge. The flavor was amazing! The coffee ice cream wasn't like your normal coffee ice cream, it had a much stronger taste, closer to real coffee. All the cones are made there, you can choose a waffle cone or waffle bowl, or a paper bowl. The waffle doesn't get soggy with the ice cream, it holds up nicely. The Scoop has a very cool ambience, with fun seating. There's also a fountain and pretty seating area outside on the patio. read more

My boyfriend and I both love the lavender honey ice cream and the lemon poppyseed one, it's popular so if you want those flavors you'll have to go earlier on since at night it tends to be dwindled down to only 2-3 flavors left. The place is super cute and well decorated but small. The only complaint is the service, everytime i've been there the girls working are extremely rude and look at you as though you are a nuisance. Having been to Salt & Straw in Portland so many times, I was craving ice cream and it looked like Arcata Scoop was the place to go. Upon arrival, I couldn't help but to think that I was at Salt & Straw! The place smelled of fresh waffle cones and their decor is so cute. The employees here are just as friendly and welcoming as the workers at Salt & Straw. We were able to try a variety of flavors and they weren't giving us attitude about it. Normally I always feel bad for trying so many flavors and because I usually will get full from trying so many samples. I like that they also have vegan options for those that can't have real ice cream. The 2 flavors that won us over were the honey vanilla lavender and cinnamon. The cinnamon tasted like a cinnamon toast crunch and it wasn't overpowering with cinnamon. Surprisingly, it also wasn't as sweet, which is a good thing. The honey vanilla lavender is probably one of the best I've had! It had real pieces of lavender in it and vanilla specs. I was very impressed with the floral scent and taste. I got my scoops in a waffle cone and that is definitely the way to go! Their cones are always fresh and flavorful. Their ice cream is smooth and pricing is reasonable considering they give pretty big scoops. I also love that they make their own ice cream, but once the batch runs out for the day then that's it. Wow, this place is good. I'm not high (as some reviewers seem to accuse the lovers of this place of being), I just like fresh-tasting, delicious ice cream. I got a scoop of chocolate and boy was it exactly that! It was not overly sweet or anything like that - it was just chocolate and cream flavored with a minimal amount of sugar. My girlfriend got a scoop of boysenberry (made with local berries) and that was also delicious! This was exciting for me! The Scoop wasn't around when I lived in Humboldt. Since I'd moved away I'd started hearing about it though, 'come visit, we'll go to the scoop'. I kept saying 'what the heck is the scoop?' They'd say 'It's across from Los Bagels, oh my god it's so good!'. So when I finally got up there this past weekend, after two years too long, of being away from the Boldt, I made it to the Scoop. And indeed it is awesome. There seems to always be a small line, especially on warm days like when we visited, but it's worth the wait. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor space, and like most places in Arcata, local art hanging on the walls. I decided to go for one scoop of the watermelon strawberry sorbet, even though I was tempted by the vanilla honey lavender, that was interestingly different. I loved my sorbet, it was perfect blend of both flavors, and the right texture. I could have had 10 more scoops of this. If you're in Arcata and hankering for some ice try The Scoop. read more

I loved everything about this place, the simple and quaint decor. Its prestinely clean! Its fresh and creamy cold and yummy! It beats the hell outta Mariposa Ice Cream down in SD! For Reals!!! The flavors I was lucky to have were: Lavendar Honey Vanilla- not a big honey taste to it, and real pieces of lavendar pop in your mouth, Vanilla is on point to! Cinamon- was Cinanmony Yummy Goodness! Not gridy like you would imagine it, and it went awesomely with the Dark Chocolate! Dark Chocolate- was friggin the best chocolate ice cream ever!
