It's the Yogury of the North. At least that's what the sign said. Is 'yogury' a real word? Anyway, I had just finished a healthy albeit hearty late afternoon lunch at Wildflower Cafe & Bakery across the street (review: http://bit.ly/2pZvltJ). I thought I was going to make a beeline to my car to get to Eureka but noticed this spot out of the corner of my eye. I could tell it was a student hangout since Humboldt State is nearby, but I just wanted something a bit decadent since I had been doing good with my steps all day. Vegan ice cream can be hard to come by. Vegan soft serve? Forget about it. But this guy makes the best soft serve I've EVER had. No joke, when people ask me my favorite dessert, I say redwood yogurt's non dairy vanilla. And it's just vanilla!! Not a top flavor of mine usually but it's the only non dairy option he's got. But it doesn't matter one bit! The vanilla bean is rich and invigorating, the ice cream itself is silky smooth and so creamy, you'd never know it wasn't the traditional cow's milk. I believe he makes it with almond milk. And don't forget a waffle cone! They're vegan too and go perfectly with the soft serve. The space itself is awesome too. Unique and eclectic seating, a piano to play if you like, local artwork all over the walls, and dozens of flyers so you can pursue local events. The guy who runs this place is kind and hardworking, a bit of an enigma. Maybe a soft serve sorcerer? Don't miss out on this Arcata gem! :) read more

What a nice quaint place to eat yogurt. Mine was about $3. I highly recommend the pumpkin and the vanilla/chocolate swirl! I had my yogurt plain but toppings are available too and choice of cup or cone. Ambiance included artwork, assorted chairs and tables, piano to utilize at no cost, bathroom. That place has been here forever, and it's my personal favorite of the yogurt shops in Humboldt as both a kid and adult (but of course, taste is subjective). Delicious Waffle Cones of Swirled Delight The frozen yogurt is a sweet icy treat which tastes like homemade soft serve yogurt in one of the best waffle cones I've ever had. I was lucky enough to get a cone of Mounds which was a swirl of half chocolate and half coconut. I sat on the hand carved looking bench and ate the delicious treat while watching an interesting parade of folks carrying a guitar, juggling poles, dogs and some type of artwork. My husband and I actually stopped in this little town intending on getting ice cream else where, but when we arrived to the other over cream location we specifically stopped in for, it was closed! Bummer! So this was our second choice and not a bad one! It's a little hole in the wall yogurt shop, in a neat little town. All the places are tucked away and inconspicuous. A lot of establishments look like houses than have been renovated into little shanty places. Pretty cool. This place had wonderful frozen yogurt. A small list of flavors to select from. They even had an almond milk based vanilla frozen yogurt. I will tell you though, their waffle cones are beyond amazing! Fresh made soft, but ever so slightly chewy. It was SO good! I though about that waffle cone for a couple hours afterwards *giggle* Good little spot. read more

I just LOVE this place!! It's not totally fancy like many of the yogurt shops that have opened all over the place but I appreciate it's understated interior and lack of total organization... it's not some corporate chain.... the owner is really friendly he's been doing this for years, and seems to remain true to the business. What's cool is the waffle cones are made fresh (it always smells really good in there!) And it's only like 3 bucks! He changes the flavors all the time too. Popped into the shop on a whim, first time being there. Wanted to see what they had to offer and upon asking if the shop was self-serve or not, the rude old white guy that people have mentioned before (owner possibly?), simply said no and ignored me further on. Was given weird looks by him and 3 other old while fellows when I walked in, so maybe it was just racism? Not the first time I've dealt with such passive-aggressive bigotry in Arcata. Or ageism? Not sure, but either way, never coming here again. Doesn't look like they have much of a selection anyways aside from typical, bland flavors like vanilla. read more

My fiancee takes me here on a regular basis. The selection of frozen yogurt is amazing. I recommend the pumpkin when it is available. You can't go wrong with chocolate, which has been available every time. Then there's the waffle cone. They are made right on the spot and they are warm and crunchy. The environment is nice as well. Very "home-y" when compared to some commercial type places. There's couches and a piano to play. There's also tons of local papers and advertisements displayed. This place has no comparison. Redwood Yogurt tops out any other yogurt of ice cream place in this and surrounding areas. The owner staffs the place and is extremely appreciative of any business. I just bought two yogurts for the price of once since he had my fiancee and I waiting for three minutes. Dude, if you have been anywhere else, three minutes is nothing. Even more important is the yogurt! YUMMY!!! There are a couple flavors that change from time to time. The berry flavors reflect what the owner has found in the store, giving you great fresh fruit for your yogurt. And then there are waffle cones. Fresh, warm and yummy. I can't pass these up. Mmmmm good! Oh, and there is an out of tune piano if you want to rock your skills! There are always current events posted on the walls and new local artwork hanging. Yogurt was okay but the older man that works there (not sure if he's the owner) was rude and cold. I noticed that he was incredibly friendly to the customers in front of me in line but when it was my turn, he refused eye contact and ignored my question when I asked how he was. Suck it, "Ultimate Yogurt." This town ain't big enough for two yogurt places and this one's got my vote. It's an Arcata legend and it better not go anywhere. The yogurt is always great, the guy who owns and runs the place (I still don't know his name...) is friendly and passionate and even gave me fro-yo on the house once. Also, the atmosphere is wonderful. There's always kids running around or college students hanging out or couples on dates. There's an eclectic set of chairs and tables and couches, community event flyers on the walls, local art...It's like everything you want in a healthy community rolled up into one awesome yogurt shop. A-OK. Sorta. I didn't like any of the frozen yogurt options the one and only time I went to Redwood Yogurt. We got chocolate and mango in waffle cones. I would have enjoyed a sample of either, but it didn't taste very good beyond a small amount. I got sick of eating the chocolate froyo and wasn't interested in eating my boyfriend's mango. However, I thought the waffle cones were perfectly made -- crispy and dense (not soggy). I would go back to Redwood Yogurt once to give another flavor a try. Perhaps I'll ask for a smaller (or child's) size next time. read more

My best friend from work and I walked in here only to find... no one else. It was weird. I thought that there would be a plethora of people patronizing the place because it was a mild 55 degrees in Arcata and anything warmer than 50 degrees in this place deserve ice cream. We were apprehensive about trying their frozen yogurt but we were steadfast in our endeavor to be fatties. So we ordered the flavors of the day with waffle cones. WOW! SUPER GOOD FROZEN YOGURT! My friend had been raving about this place and I definitely see why! The yogurt is so light and fluffy that you don't feel like a pig after eating it. I had the mixed berry's (awesome), while my friend had the soy vanilla (also awesome). The icing-on-the-cake was the FRESH cone that the gentleman makes and then rolls on the spot. Eating delicious frozen yogurt out of a warm cone has made my LOOOOVE this spot. I'll definitely stop by next time I'm in Arcata. read more

When it drizzles, and it does all the time, I like to grab frozen yogurt at this shop. The nearby greenery, redwood forest and weather make an enhancing contrast to the icy yogurt, with the air crisp and moist the location makes a simple outing for froyo an unforgettable moment. The ingredients are the Humboldt fresh standard which is to say farm to table is everywhere. The oblong, wooden painted shop sign is a classic of Humboldt. These examples of local signage can be found around older county shops and it's a mark of a true Humboldt establishment. I LOVE FROZEN YOGURT!
