My main problem was getting them to my house to actually prune the trees. They had to cancel and reschedule a few times. I gave them four stars because I had to keep calling to get things (re)scheduled. I was able to quickly get Ed, their arborist, to come by and take a look at my property and provide an estimate. We walked the property. I indicated what work I needed and various issues. Ed provided me with some solutions that I implemented myself and some the crew would do to correct issues caused by the previous tree trimmers. Ed provided me with an estimate and said he would get me on the schedule. Once the crew arrived, about a month later, I walked the property again with them to show them the work so that we were all on the same page. Ed arrived shortly after and provided more details of what needed to be done to try and correct the issues. I was pleased with the results. Most of the issues were fixed. Some will likely take a year or two of corrective pruning to fully address the issues, but overall, the trees look great.. They cleaned up and left the yard in good shape. read more

Ed was very helpful in figuring out the best approach to some tree work we needed. It took awhile to finally schedule the crew to come and prune/shape three trees (oak, crabapple, magnolia) and do some shaping of our redwoods, but once here they did a great job and did a good clean up. Ed just saved our beautiful male carob tree, again. I began noticing a patch of yellow leaves - not unusual, except these have green and black spots. Ed came right by and identified it as 'shot hole fungus'. He explained it's a problem this year due to the heavy and late rains we had. He has given me invaluable information in planning and making decisions about my yard. He and his guys did a great job taking out stumps in my yard and left the place looking clean. I am so pleased to have hired Ed and the Arbor Day Tree Service crew to do a very big job of removing and hauling away four large trees and several smaller ones. They also hauled off a large quantity of old wood and piles of debris I found buried by prior owners. He was the most knowledgeable and the lowest price of four bidders on this job. I called to get his guidance on my ailing olive tree, we set up an appointment for the very next morning, and he showed up right on time. He proceeded to explain to me what was going on and how I could address it myself. He also gave me some guidance on another tree, which has roots that are destroying our paver-covered driveway -- along with advice on various types of trees that would be a good replacement that won't harm the driveway. We called to set up an appointment for having our very old Apple tree properly pruned...rather than the haphazardous butchering I had subjected the tree to over the years. By the time Ed had walked our property and I pointed out that tree and various other things we eventually wanted to do, Ed gave me an estimate that was more than resonable for all of it. We had a huge hedge like plant removed, two palms, three buddelias, a Toyon, and a large dead birch that was holding up an overgrown climbing rose. Where things were removed, he would grind the stumps to below ground level and in two spots plant new trees, and in three others, dig proper holes for planting new trees. His guys (5) plus Ed showed when he said they would, busted their butts getting all of this done and were gone after cleaning everything up by early afternoon. He brought a stump grinder, a huge truck with a chipper and never disturbed adjacent roses, boxwoods, etc that were close by. Fantastic work. Great price. Plus, we really enjoyed talking with Ed and his guys. Great people. We highly recommend them and if I need tree service again, this is my place. Hire this guy. He's great. read more

Arbor Day Tree Care was a great find and I highly recommend them!! I had noticed their vehicles parked on my street over the past month as they seemed to be the tree company of choice by many of my neighbors whom I highly respect, so I decided to give them Arbor Day Tree a call. Ed, the owner, was quick to respond to my call and was able to come out immediately to give me a quote. His communication style is reflective of what customer service is all about, as is his proactive nature. I have used many other tree companies in the past, both large and small, and this has been my most positive experience thus far. Ed provides a dedicated crew, a group of hardworking guys that are quite meticulous about their work. Ed came on site to oversee what was being done when they started and when they were finishing. Great attention to detail. Ed does not oversell or push unnecessary work or products. Upon very carefully examining my 200+ year old, extremely larger than life, California Live Oak tree, Ed showed me things that I wasn't aware of, such as a mild beetle infestation on the trunk that could lead to sudden oak like a prior grand oak tree I lost a few years back. He recommended a pest control company to call to get it cared for which I greatly appreciate and called right away. In addition, he had noticed that my magnolia tree out front was not staked properly and offered to fix that problem along with adding nutrients to some recent dwarf magnolias I had planted into the ground. I also had him remove an annoying Quince tree that had blown in and rooted itself and had taken over my pear tree that turned out to be diseased. Ed removed the annoyance and treated and trimmed my pear tree. The crew was at my property for a day and a half, they were on time, very professional and did a beautiful job pruning, not to mention their cleanup which truly left my yard cleaner than when they started!! I really appreciate the time Ed gave me, his positive attitude, his love and appreciation of trees and the care he takes to point out why things are trimmed a certain way to ensure that minimal shock occurs to the tree. Having built this house in 97 and used many tree companies prior, I highly recommend Ed and his crew and will continue to use them in the future. The pricing is fair and reasonable and well worth it. I had a row of Eucalyptus trees that I needed trimmed down short, and a large Pine tree in need of pruning. I had several quotes done before I tried Arbor Day tree care and already made my decision to use one of those company's. Having some extra time on my hands I thought it wouldn't hurt to get one last quote. I was impressed with Ed's knowledge and suggestions about the work I needed done. Not only was his pricing better than most, he was easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable and confident in his ability to do a good job. His guys did a great job! I had Ed come out for an estimate to trim and shape a 20 foot hedge that goes around the entire back yard as well as prune some smaller rose bushes and shrubs. Quite a large job. We negotiated a fair price and Ed and his team were out the next morning. I can only say that my expectations were exceeded beyond belief. Not only was the job we negotiated completed to perfection, Ed's team took care of a bunch of other trimmings and what not around the yard. Extremely unprofessional. We hired Arbor Day but they never did the job, and we hired someone else for less money and much quicker. Arbor Day gave us what we thought was a reasonable bid. That was a Wednesday. Ed was supposed to call me on Thursday to confirm a date for the work to be done. He didn't. I called him on Friday, but he didn't return my call until Sunday. He said they would do the work on Wednesday starting at 10:00 am. No show. I called him about 11:00 on Wednesday, he called back about 1:00 and said his truck was "stuck" up north, and said that Saturday at 10:00 would be better. No show again on Saturday. I called him about 11:30. He called back about 1:00 and said he was having trouble with his chipper and would let us know when it was fixed. Never heard from him again. We got another bid from another contractor for 2/3 the price and had the work done 3 days later. read more

The Lorax would shudder. Hired to evaluate several large bay and oak trees on a property (that unbeknownst to them, had been been trimmed and evaluated by an arborist just 2 years prior. ) The arborist from ADTC actually recommended cutting down a beautiful HEALTHY oak (with absolutely no sign of oak disease). This Oak is estimated to be 80-100 yers old, with hundreds of more years of life left in it. When pressed about this extreme recommendation for a healthy oak, he vaguely claimed possible damage to the foundation of the house caused by its roots----then was rendered speechless when the foundation specialist(also in the room at the time) attested to the rock solid condition of the foundation.... ADTC also recommmended REMOVING several other healthy trees, rather than trimming for a healthy fee of course. Understanding a company stands to make more money from chopping down trees, rather than preserving them, if you are seeking a balanced and fair evaluation of trees on your property there are many many other arborists to choose from in our tree loving bay area. read more

I am very pleased with the experience I had with Arbor Day Tree Care. Ed (the owner) was able to come out right away to give an estimate on pruning 2 trees and removing 2 shrubs. He really took the time to explain to me what needed to be done, how he would prune the trees to keep the natural shape, and the overall health of the trees. I was very impressed with his knowledge of trees - I've hired arborists before, and this is one of the important criteria I judge by. This morphed into him telling me that a very large, ugly fir tree in the front was diseased, and when he gave me a fair price to remove it, I added that in too. His crew was very hard working and professional, and showed up right on time. The estimate of cost and time was reasonable for the amount of work being done, and ended up being right on. Ed came by a couple of times to supervise the work, and also at the end to make sure I was happy with the result. The end result was great - the pruned trees (a live oak and a large juniper) look fantastic, and the shrub/tree removal & stump grinding were so well done that you would never know they had been there in the first place. Ed started to remove our huge pine on Feb 10, 2017. He also agreed to trim all the trees around our property, which his men completed over a two week period whilst simultaneously working for two of our neighbors. They removed a third of the pine tree. It was a stormy two weeks but they worked every day, except not for us as they only spent 7 days on our property - hence only third of the pine being removed. They disappeared for 2 weeks and didn't return calls then returned to start a new job for us of trimming a neighbours tree, which they completed, and removing ivy, of which they removed a third of the amount agreed (just like the pine tree). After many, many calls over the last 3 months, which got increasingly unpleasant, It is now mid July and Ed has told us we can sue him and he will see us in court as he has no intention of returning to finish the job. We paid him $9000 so far, and he is refusing to either finish the job for an extra $6000 or to refund us some of the money we paid him so we can pay a different company to remove the tree. Ed and crew have done a couple of jobs for us that required dealing with neighbors (2) approval and involvement. He did a great job! Only issue was taking care of our own properties ('2) trimming and pruning. He did not follow my wife's directions on pruning a 150' hedge and we are trying to find another arborist to make right.
