We had a lovely dinner here. We sat inside because even though they have many tables on the sidewalk, they were all full. It ended up being fine, though, because it was kind of a chilly evening. Our server was nice, but very busy so he didn't check back often. But he did get the job done, which is all that counts. We ordered the house wine, white for me and read for hubby. We started with the tomato bruschetta. It's amazing how just perfectly ripened tomatoes a little olive oil and a little garlic on bread can taste so good. Hubby got the seafood pasta and I got fettuccine Bolognese. Mine was good - I had no complaints, but my husband's was amazing. I wished I had ordered what he did, which I almost did. My wife and I ate here in February 2024. From reading the bad reviews, this restaurant wasn't anything like what we read. The food was outstanding. The house red wine was mediocre, but it's a house red wine that cost 6.50€ a 1/2 liter. What do you expect?. We had grilled vegetables, fettuccine with mushrooms, and farfalle with vegetables. All of it was really well done, cooked al dente, so just the way we like it. Service was good, not rushed or rude. We really recommend this place! read more

I'm going to say Aquila Nera is more local/authentic than most Roman restaurants. We were walking down Via Amedeo looking for another restaurant, and I walked inside a hotel to ask the front desk man where it could be. He gave me directions but also suggested Aquila Nera for reasonable, delicious food. Inside, we did see a mix of tourists and locals. Our waiter was very nice and he made small-talk with me while someone got our menus. We ordered the seafood and meat tasting menu along with a marinara pizza and bruschetta. Everything came at once, so our table was brimming with plates of pasta and secondi courses. My favorite dishes were the shrimp risotto and grilled fish with lemon. All of the pastas were cooked al-dente, and the portions were IMMENSELY generous. (One observation about Italian cuisine from an American's perspective is that portions tend to run much smaller). For dessert, we had a fruit bowl and homemade lemon sorbet. Overall, the food was perfectly good, but I have to say the main reason I fondly think of Aquila Nera is the amount of food given for such reasonable prices. read more

Great service but food wasn't stellar. I ordered the sautéed mussels, lasagna, and tiramisu. The mussels were ok but I've had them more flavorful at other restaurants. The lasagna I added salt and pepper to, something I hadn't done my entire trip. The tiramisu was just ok as well. The restaurant was clean, food came out fast, and the prices weren't bad at all. Pretty good. There is nothing obviously wrong with this place it's just that I had been to a lot of places in the area that were better. The pork loin was good but there were a lot of tiny bone shards in the meat that I had to navigate through while eating. The salmon toast with cheese was the best thing I had while I was there. I might be judging this place too hardly so don't take my word for it but there are other places close by that I can guarantee that you will have an amazing experience. (see other reviews) read more

This place was affordable and very good! It's not far walk from the terminal also. The service was excellent and the servers were friendly.

Decent menu options and not too pricy, but the wait staff was un-attentive to us Tourists and then short changed us by 2 Euro when we paid. There are plenty of other options that are tastier and more welcoming. Oh and if you do choose to eat here expects street vendors to stop by your table trying to sell you things every 5 minutes. For a city with sooo many little restaurants- this food was by far the most lack luster and flavorless food I had during my stay. Chicken was DRY and 8 euros! Calzone was not cooked fully and they said they had prosciutto on the crustini- but looked like run of the mill deli ham. So disappointed. Flavorless. Avoid. When I got up to pay inside at the register with my card(cc) I got a glimpse of the kitchen not only practicing hand hygiene (washing hands), but them cooking each plate from scratch! I started my meal with bruschetta (can't go wrong with that) and then the penne paste vodka sauce. Now, I havent had this for a while back the states because I usually go for chicken parmigiana (Rome has no chicken parm btw) but this was delicious. Ive always liked it, but never my go to. But italian food is always about the sauce (it's in the sauce! ). This one was amazing. Richer and thicker than usual and they add bacon to this pasta which was delicious too. (See pics). I dont usually do deserts so dont know much about them but they recommended tiramisu and it was good. Not amazing but good. Not sure how its supposed to taste so cannot comment or compare. There are some things that just taste better in Italy... pasta, pizza, sparkling water (yes I think it does...), gelato... We ran into this place on our second trip to Roma. We were actually looking for a different restaurant, a seafood restaurant that had been recommended to us, but we never found it. We did find this place though. It is near the train station, Termini) so not really hard to find. We chose this place because it seemed to be busy enough with both locals and tourists. We chose to sit outside, service was a bit slow. They get really busy so it can be difficult to wave down a waiter for anything. I find it a struggle to make a choice in restaurants in Italy because... everything looks and sounds amazing. However, on this occasion they had a pasta dish with artichokes and spicy tomato sauce. Sold. Another thing I love in Italy... artichokes. I think they marinate them in crack or something, but I cannot get enough of them! Work BFF and I always stick to the wine in Italy. In my opinion, there is really no point in ordering any other drink when a jug of the house wine is almost always cheaper, even cheaper than water ;). Mountain Man did not understand this tactic and ordered a beer. He complained that it was too expensive, but then again he felt that way about every pint he had in Italy. This is why you order the jug of house wine, it is good wine, it comes in a jug, and it is cheap - that is my tip for those of you visiting Italia. I did think their house red was not nearly as good as many of the restaurants we had stopped at, but it was not awful. Mountain Man and Work BFF had pizzas. Nothing special, but satisfied the hunger. My pasta was really good, although it could have used more artichokes and a bit more sauce. The spiciness was just right as well... enough to tingle your tastebuds, but not enough to make your mouth hurt. While the prices were not extortianate, I felt that for some things they were on the pricey side... especially the pizzas. I really did like my pasta... hence the three stars, otherwise it would probably be a two-star. It was a nice dinner, nothing to write home about, and in a pinch (if I was wanting to hang around the train station to catch a train) I might attempt it again, but Rome is so huge with so many trattoria to try, that I would be hard-pressed to go back. read more

Good experience - good food on a busy pedestrianized street full of restaurants with seating outside. Perfect for sitting outside on a warm Rome evening, just a few minutes walk from Termini train station but not impacted by the station, not noisy or dirty. Waiter was a bit suggestive even in front of my husband! But that is to be expected in Italy. Take it as a compliment if you can or you will make yourself miserable. Visiting from Canada. We got burnt earlier in the day from another vendor round the corner, so a little cynical. However, their prices were VERY reasonable and they didn't try to overcharge us tourists when we asked for the bill. Their food was SUPERB and service was GREAT (we had our two kids with us). Stopped by this restaurant to have a quick drink and something small to eat. My wife and I really enjoyed everything about this restaurant from the outdoor seating to the food and even the staff was very friendly. We ended up going back later on in the evening with group of people we were staying with and everyone had a great time. We ate here in 2009 three nights in a row during our three night stay in Rome! Partly because it was convenient to our hotel and partly because it was delicious! I had the spinach ravioli three times. The best I have ever had! It was a super busy place but the waiters were good. read more

We discovered this restaurant as it was opposite our hotel. We ate here on three occasions, twice in the evening and once at lunchtime. The food is excellent and very good value. The Italian Baked Potatoes are delicious and a perfect accompaniment to the Veal in White Wine. The house wine, sold by the carafe, is very good and very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and efficient, in fact they recognised us after our first visit! Even though they get busy they acknowledge that you are waiting and attend to you asap. They also do not hurry you along as happened in one or two other places. The whole restaurant is extremely clean. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and if we ever find ourselves in this area of Rome again we will definitely go back. read more
