Fun Fun Fun. My wife and I came this Fall for apple picking and were absolutely delighted. Plenty of orchard space to pick from, live music, great food and an epic country market that we picked clean. Oh, not to mention the fresh-home made ice cream and cider donuts! We came with friends who had children, and there is plenty here to keep them entertained and exhausted. This isn't a roadside operation, there was plenty of room here to move around and to enjoy. It's a bit of a hike from the city, but I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy the season. Going to Applecrest is a quintessential New England fall farm experience. read more

I am not sure if I ever went apple picking (although I assume I did when I was young and living in Ohio) but I want to say that this was the FIRST place I ever went and I am SO SO SO HAPPY that it was!! The reason why I even went was because a co-worker of mine had gone and she brought in some apples with her to work and offered me one. Now, I like apples, but I have a tough time finding ones that are not too mealy and are really fresh but this was the PERFECT apple!! No joke! First of all, it was huge..massive! And it tasted sweet, slightly sour, crunchy and the flesh was perfectly white and pure! SO GOOD! It was a Cortland variety which I don't recall ever eating before. I instantly asked for the details of how to get to this farm and the next weekend my boyfriend and I made the trip and have now officially stated that it will be a yearly fall outing for us! The parking was easy, we grabbed a tractor ride out to the orchard - which was a fun ride itself! - and walked through the orchards picking our prizes. The trees are marked with different colored plastic ribbons so you know which kind you are getting and the orchard itself is very well maintained. After we arrived back with our bag of apples, we went over to the area where they have pumpkin carving, scarecrow making and music playing which was so cool too! We bought a bunch of stuff in their little market including a pie which is homemade and frozen so you just pop it in the oven at your home (was awesome) and a small chicken pot pie for my guy that is homemade and frozen as well (he loved that), some fresh bread (delish), fruit, cider, chocolate, jam for my parents and everything was great! Plus, it was nice to know we were supporting local farmers and businesses in the process. Then we went outside and purchased some freshly made apple cider donuts and they too were so very very very good. The whole place is well kept, clean and the workers are very friendly. I recommend this place highly for families and couples alike. It was a lot of fun and like I said, we plan to go back every year. read more

Whenever I visit my mom in Portsmouth between May and December, we stop in at Applecrest to see what's new in the produce department, and because I am an animal lover, I spent at least 20 minutes visiting the sheep, goats, and alpacas in the Traveling Barnyard. My two must-haves at Applecrest are their gorgeous green heirloom tomatoes (they always make sure to include a few green ones in the bin). My mom and I scoop these up whenever we can, because Applecrest's specimens really do make the best fried green tomatoes. The other? Peach nectar, which is in the cooler with the fresh milk. This stuff is like bottled heaven - it's great to drink on its own, but it 's also great mixed with a little ginger ale or in cocktails. Applecrest always has stunning produce, and I've never been disappointed. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that it tends to get very crowded with families once fall comes around and they begin running activities such as face painting, pick your own pumpkins, and hayrides. If they could better separate the kids' activities from the farm store so I wouldn't have to dodge screaming toddlers while selecting peaches, Applecrest would earn five stars. read more

We come here once a year for apples and generally arrive towards the end of the day where traffic is less. Plenty of parking here and many activities taking place during the season. The company is nice enough to provide outhouses on the property. Inside is where all the picked and bundled apples are. Of course you can pick your own but we prefer to grab a bundle. The cost of picking vs buying a bundle already picked is about the same. Bundles are expensive. Depending on the bundle or type of Apple, expect to pay at least $16 for a 10lb bundle. It is expensive for sure. Overall a decent experience. read more

This is for the cider donuts. I unfortunately was unable to partake in the apple picking season so decided to take the drive up to Applecrest farm for some of their donuts. The cashier was helpful and kind, pointing me in their direction and how they're laid out on the tray. I had gotten plain and a couple of sugar coated. Surprisingly, at about 5 in the evening they're still delectable and soft to the touch. Usually at grab-n-go's like Dunkin' Donuts their donuts get stale and feel like rocks by the end of the day, not Applecrest. The reason for the 4 stars, however, is because the taste was a little too much on the buttery side. From what I recalled last year, they were very spot on but that was because I had purchase them from the stand. Maybe that could be a reason, who knows. But I still will continue to come back and hopefully make it for next year's Apple picking season! :) read more

I really love this place and it's usually my go-to apple picking destination (though logistical issues prevented me from going this year). Anyway I used to go with a friend when we were still in school. We used to go during the week when it wasn't crowded at all. It was just nice to be able to wander through the orchards, eat some cider donuts, and maybe pick up a pumpkin or two. I'll be back next year! read more

My 10th anniversary visiting Applecrest Orchards!! That must mean I have spent almost 1k there! its hard to leave there without a lot of goodies. Last year we made a scarecrow and that was fun. We always do the hayride and the petting zoo and try and catch a few songs from the band. We love the cider donuts and this year they added homemade icecream! Yum! Its tradition that we get apple pie ala mode and this year it was combined with the ice cream stand. It was the first disappointment of the decade. I swear they gave us about a meatball size slice (i use the word slice loosely) of pie! With two scoops of ice cream. For almost $5 it was NOT worth it. From now on we will save our pie eating for at home with the one we buy from them. We picked raspberries and they were delicious. If you have little ones the storybook hayrides are fun (well they were years ago when I had a little one!) I tried a new nacho dip, bean with beer, I wasn't crazy about it but the sample of the peach schnapps was good and I will get that next time. The corn didn't taste as good as the one down the street from my house (Wallys) and the red potatoes I bought were good. They were out of caramel apples so if you see them buy them! The small bags of apples are now 8.50 and I had to stop at Shaws on the way home and they had bags of apples for .59 a pound and I think they are from local growers so I hope these apples are really amazing. But really I do like to buy and shop local to support the little guys so I guess its a small price to pay, but if money is tight you might want to buy your apples elswhere. read more

The best part about this place is their fresh apple cider and cinnamon donuts. These 2 things are the perfect pairing for the chilly fall and are sold at a cheap price. The farm itself is good for apple picking including pumpkin picking(?). There's a few types of apples to choose from and is enjoyable for any family and even a group of friends. read more

I called your Orchard Grill today at 9am to request a reservation for my family and I later today. The woman who answered the phone could not have been more unprofessional and had quite an unpleasant tone. She asked when we wanted to come in and then said she had groups, could not provide me anytime during the day, and when I asked for alternate food options at your establishment she told me to go on Yelp and find other restaurants in the area. When my family and I arrived at your establishment my Mother asked to put our name in, the lady in a pink sweater took our name, and could not give us a time or guarantee we would get in. We checked back a couple times before we went apple picking and were given various stories. She told other patrons after us to go online and book a reservation and told us we were way down the list. There were numerous open tables during the four hours we were there yet she refused to seat us. The woman is horrible and needs to go. read more

Visited the farm today and boy have things changed since the last time I visited which was a few years ago. They have commercialized themselves too much and no longer represent the quintessential New England farm. Prices are sky high and it felt like an assembly line. The trees were loaded with apples which was a plus, however the given the price we paid I would have expected nothing less in that regard. We have been going to Parlee Farms near our home for quite sometime but they have been getting really really crowded that the types of apples we like (mainly Macs) are typically SOLD OUT early. So I've been avoiding the place for apples in past years. I did some research and found this treasure in New Hampshire... (come to find out my extended family goes there too) Bring your camera... they have some lovely pumpkins, huge gourds, corn stalks, etc. Stations to take pictures... lovely farm areas... This is New England, folks!! My wife liked the apple cider donuts. Not the best we ever had but much better than Dunkin Donuts. I thought it was good but not really a donut guy. LOL! The apple cider is NOT PASTEURIZED so we skipped it. Wow -- what a huge market area with every type of fresh veggie, baked goods, frozen pies, jellys, etc. We picked up some huge corn for dinner tonight (67 cents an ear) The apples were HUGE... we came home and were ready to make apple pies and needed less apples than expected. The trees are big and sturdy too! 20 peck / 30 1/2 bushel which I think is reasonable.... Parlee was 28 last year The only NEGATIVE I would say is that there was no hay ride when we arrived and I emailed the staff days in advance and they never got back to me. We left at 10am and saw the hay rides running at another part of the farm. Not sure where they are hiding the farm animals either. The place looks like its under construction. I really really can't ding them on this as we had to leave by 10 and didn't have time. I would say give yourself 1.5 to 2 hours here. We will be back when we have more time and make a day in the area... TIP: If coming from Hampton (I95) don't pull in the first entrance... its just a field for parking... go to the main entrance TIP: Go EARLY but NOT too EARLY if you want hayride. read more

Great experience! But watch out for the poison ivy in the orchards! For $20 you can pick a peck of apples. Nice variety and friendly staff! We were surly and disappointed by how much poison ivy there was--and we wish we had been warned! Overall fun afternoon in the fall! read more

My dog and I were kicked out of the store because no one was outside selling PYO bags and apparently dogs aren't allowed inside the store where you have to go to get a PYO bag. We discovered Applecrest Farm Orchard several years ago, and have been returning ever since. Although we are from MA and there are orchards closer to home, none have compared to this family friendly farm. Extensive orchards with over 8 different varieties of pick your own were available Columbus Day weekend. We enjoyed fresh cider donuts and warm cider before taking a tractor ride out to the orchards. From the farm animals, to the farm store, and most especially the employees, this is just a fun time for the entire family. As I wandered around taking photos, a gentleman and a woman struck up a friendly conversation. Turns out it was the proprietor and his mother, and they took the time to ask me about my experience! Very nice staff but it's not particularly handicap accessible...went with my Mom, who is in a wheelchair had trouble entering and exiting the market. I know Covid has messed everything up...we couldn't eat at the restaurant because the seating was on a raised patio and picnic tables in the field were not accessable with a wheelchair...infact the handicapped parking is farthest away from the main entrance and Covid has caused some areas to be cordoned off causing even more navigational issues for people in wheelchairs. Conveniently located and very charming I loved the tracker ride to the pick your own apples. The selection today wasn't spectacular but that's to be expected by Oct. and the price was a bit higher than what I normally pay for PYO ($20 for a small bag). The shop had a great variety of already picked apples and delicious foods. They also had live music which I thought was a nice touch. The cider donuts ($7 for a dozen) were absolutely delicious!! They need a better system for their hot cider though-sits outside the small cider donut booth in one of those large plastic containers and it wasn't very hot by the time we got some because it had been sitting out since the morning and people were asking for refunds. All in all I really enjoyed this place and I'm glad I ventured out of MA for a different apple orchard experience. read more

Today I visited Applecrest for their annual Strawberry Festival. I am so impressed with everything. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun and upbeat. So much to do at great costs, applecrest farms is a need to do when visiting the area, they have festivals, activities, and great food, I personally don't suggest visiting the restaurant just because it's a little pricey but the pick you own blueberries and apples( the peaches can make you a little itchy) and they have an awesome assortment of ice cream flavors. I visited Applecrest this weekend for the first time in about five years, remembering the weekend Harvest festival as being a fun fall activity. Usually I remember things as being better than they actually were, but Applecrest did not disappoint. It is admittedly a family-oriented place on the weekends for the Harvest festivals, but my boyfriend and I still had fun. Good food (although the line was super long), a hayride, a market for pies and jams and appley things, and delicious cider donuts and cider made for a great day. For kids there is also a face painting booth and a stuff-your-own scarecrow booth. There are pick-your-own apples, pumpkins, pears, and blueberries. There is a bluegrass group that plays all day both weekend days, and its just a really fun atmosphere that gets you in the autumn mood. read more

So disappointed with the changes at Applecrest. If I wanted to go to a fancy, overpriced grocery store, I would go to Whole Foods. I miss the charm of the old Applecrest and the renovations make the whole place feel pretentious. Also, the staff was pretty rude when we asked if they had a certain type of apple that they don't grow. Also, the line for cider donuts was at least an hour long. I'm sure that people who haven't been going to Applecrest for 20 years love the way it looks now, but for me, it's a sad day. Admittedly this was my first venture into the wonderful activity called apple picking. Me, my boyfriend and his son took the nice drive to Applecrest Farms and wow, what a wonderful time we had! Riding the tractor to the fields, wandering the fields picking ripe, gorgeous apples. Sneaking a few leftover raspberries ripe off the bush into our eager mouths. And the apple cider donuts? YUMMY! What a great way to spend the day! I found the market really interesting to peruse with a lot of seasonal/local deliciousness to purchase. Disappointed I can bring my dog but can't eat. But there are messy, screaming children allowed to sit and eat. My dog, unlike most of those dirty, misbehaved children , will sit quietly. Perhaps accommodating for those who do come with dogs to slow enjoy a meal here would make more sense. And I'm not talking about the hot dogs and hamburgers in lunch line style. Our family likes to visit different farms for apple picking each fall. This was our first time at Applecrest, on one of the festival weekends, and it was definitely one of our favorites. It was crowded, so if you are looking for a more peaceful and less busy picking place either go on a weekday or visit another site. There was a tractor pull along the scenic farmland to take all the pickers out to the apples and peaches. The apples were plentiful and easy to reach with little spoilage on the ground. Cortland and macintosh were the choices the Sunday we visited (other varieties are available so call ahead to check availability). The peaches nearby were plump and sweet. There was lots of spoilage on the ground; boots or play shoes for kids are a good idea. We enjoyed the apple cider donuts, both the plain and cinnamon-sugar, but do be aware that donuts are cash-only. We were able to pay for the apples, peaches, farm veggies, and ice cream with debit or credit. There was a bluegrass band playing from 1-4:30, and it was a nice spot to sit and people-watch. If you plan on sitting for the music or to eat, I would suggest packing folding camp chairs as there is minimal seating available (a few benches and picnic tables, but not enough for the large crowds). There is a small petting place with goats, sheep, alpaca, bunnies, and what looked like turkeys. This is an additional fee and cash only (at the time we visited the cost was $1/person and $2 for a small bag of feed; I overheard a couple workers discussing the costs, and apparently the day before the charges were higher, so check ahead if this is a feature you'll be using). We enjoyed some of the pumpkin ice cream, but the lines were ridiculous. The line became more reasonable at about 4pm. The ice cream was good, but not as flavorful as other pumpkin ice cream we've had (Trader Joe's is the best so far!), so it was a little disappointing. The farm stand is very nice with lots of freshly picked veggies and fruits along with baked goodies, local jams, honey, and cider. The tomatoes were outstanding! The corn was delicious and some of the best I've had; it was sweet, perfectly ripened, popped in your mouth, and a perfect end to a New England autumn day. As far as pricing: A half bushel bag of apples cost $30. We weighed it when we got home and it was 20 pounds, which comes to $1.50/lb- a very reasonable price for fresh fruit, not to mention the nice family time atmosphere. read more

Bring your checkbook your going to need it. What use to be a great farmstead with locally grown food has become an overpriced grocery store. Whole foods would be proud. The farm has lost its charm and a lot of the products are trucked in the bistro is nice but the stuff is way overpriced. The one thing that they have not ruined are the views from the patio overlooking the apple orchards and rolling hills. It's ok but not what it was. read more

this place is squeaky clean! plenty of room for social distancing, and lots of variety. great place to go for fresh produce, also lots of spreads, maple syrup, dairy, frozen pies available. they do have meat although i didn't shop for any. staff is pleasant and helpful. have been going to this place for decades for pyo, apples, pumpkins, strawberries, blueberries. not until the current situation did i think of them for weekly produce to be able to get fresh items without the crowd/hassle of the supermarket, and it was a great experience. you wont get supermarket prices, but you will get quality. read more

We've enjoyed frequenting this orchard near home in the summer for the ice cream stand and year round, especially for the Bistro. But we tried to take friends to brunch today and it's out of business?! I wish they put out a signboard to let locals know. We still have a $100 gift certificate that's unused. I understand closing for winter - but to close indefinitely?? This place was always buzzing in summer and fall. This Bistro has lovely ambiance and good food. A FANTASTIC atmosphere and even better food. It's as if you're transported far away from the beach and into a Napa-esqe vineyard. We sat outside at there was an odd amount of flies hovering around us, which got a little annoying. Nonetheless, you are on a farm so that is to be expected.The sirloin was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn blended in well with the marinade. My friend had the gnocchi which was made from squash right in the orchard. That would absolutely be my second choice. To top it off, we walked over for some delicious homemade ice cream for dessert! Strawberry, Blueberry, Apple, and Raspberry picking are as good-a-value as you can find. Easy access, fun with music and hayrides, too. We get a CSA through Applecrest. It's a tad more than the grocery store, but the produce is much higher in quality. The service is mixed, but that's pretty much every farm stand. The Farm is a mob scene during apple season. If you can go during the week, I recommend it. read more

I am rescinding and reassessing my previous review based on my multiple lifetime experiences and the quick response from the owner of the Orchard. I was originally perturbed by a visit this past summer but more importantly impressed that the owner personally reached out to address my concerns. He also offered me compensation for my lackluster experience which I appreciate but find completely unnecessary. I will publicly ask that the intent be forwarded to someone more in need or to a bo.na fide Veterans charity.. The fact the owner reached out to me personally only serves to (thankfully &) easily allay my concerns over the direction of the business and the care they put into making the experience pleasant for families. I will continue to make visits to the orchard as I am doing today. I know the apples will be amazing, there will be pie in the oven by weeks end, and some crisp for tonight's dessert. I also can't wait to sneak home a couple dozen cider donuts. read more

I've visited 3 times now. Once when there was a neat festival going on, and twice during the week where it was quiet. He ice cream stand is amazing, huge ice creams for cheap prices mean I will be investing in pants with elastic waistbands in the near future. My canine buddy loves the delicious vanilla ice cream in a cup and threatens to jump over the counter (i do too) when he finishes.
