A family runs Barker's Farm and their kids and grandkids work behind the counter. They offer a tightly curated selection of vegetables and had some of the best-tasting basil though in small bunches (it wasn't enough to make pesto but delicious in a Caprese salad). Pies, raw milk, tomatoes, fresh fennel sausage, this old farm is a slice of heaven to me. Both cash and credit cards accepted.

They have everything you need for staples from the garden along with things that are just nice to have. Their food selection is terrific. I especially like their "salsa in a basket", which is a strawberry quart basket filled with onion, tomato, jalapeno, cilantro and tomatillo. Fingerling potatoes are available here! There is a cooler in the back with locally sourced bacon, milk, and eggs along with Swampscott soda. Depending on the time of year, you can get cider donuts, pies, brownies, and bread. In the "nice to have" department, Barker's has a couple of offerings. There are bouquets of cut flowers which you can purchase for half the price of what you could get at a florist or supermarket. Or, better yet, you can go out to their flower garden and pick your own bouquet! Sometimes they have dried chili strings or dried flower arrangements which you can hang as home decor. As you ring up your purchase, don't forget to grab a bar of handmade soap. (I'm partial to the Voodoo Spice.) If you just feel the need to get in there and grow your own, Barker's also has a green house. You can pick up seedlings for most garden vegetables there. They offer a good selection of annuals and perennials, as well. Barker's is not open year round. Let's face it, it's New England and winter is a time to live off the preserves that you made during the summer and fall. When late spring rolls around, make sure you put Barker's as your first stop for food shopping and pick up good local food to keep you going.

I…read morerecently placed a large butchery order for our yearly family trip to nantucket and the butchery manager went out of her way to make sure all of our meets were sectioned out and vacuum packed for a safe trip from NH to the island. Attention to detail and supporting local businesses is important to us and we are always satisfied with our experience at Tendercrop.

Well this is a long one. On Friday October 2, 2026, at…read moreapproximately 5:16 PM, my wife purchased produce from Tendercrop Farm at 123 Dover Point Road in Dover, New Hampshire. We have shopped at Tendercrop before and never had any issues. A display sign was clearly the worded "Blueberrys". Relying on that store signage, my wife purchased a small box the fruit believing that it was blueberries. We feed our 3 year old mini Dachshund Molly blueberry's as a healthy treat. We are well aware dogs should never eat grapes, raisins or chocolate because they are toxic to dogs. When we got home what we thought were farm harvested blueberries were packed in a little green box with a clear cellophane wrapper on it held be a single elastic band. There was nothing written on the package. At home my wife said "try these blueberries they are so fresh". I ate a couple and they tasted like blueberries but slightly different and they had seeds. And I noticed tiny little roots stems. We both thought, well these are farm grown and not from a big store like Market Basket . So I gave Molly a few and more that night. On Saturday she ate more, approximately 12-14 in total on the two days Friday and Saturday On Sunday the 4th my wife started to question these blueberries . She dug out of the kitchen trash bucket the sales receipt and to our horror saw "Concord Grapes" $3.99. It was then realized that these were not blueberries and were Concord grapes. Grapes can be toxic to dogs and can cause potentially serious kidney injury. Since our Vets office was closed we immediately sought emergency veterinary care at Port City Veterinary referral Hospital. We spent approximately four long hours there. Bloodwork was performed to evaluate her kidney function, and she was administered fluids. The emergency veterinary bill was $465, which we paid out of pocket because her pet insurance had a $500 deductible. Just before we left for the hospital my wife called Tendercrop to tell them what happened. She spoke to a female employee that stated that it was probably a customer that inadvertently placed the grapes under a Blueberry signage after deciding not to buy them. My wife told me she was absolutely certain that was wrong and someone, (an employee) must have mistakenly placed them and others under the wrong sign. I then called and asked to speak with manager or supervisor. I believe same woman that spoke my wife spoke to me. I explained this serious mistake and that we were en-route to the Hospital because toxicity effects from grapes don't show up immediately. Your dog can act completely fine one minute and just like that they can become seriously ill needing emergency medical care. This unidentified female manager at first listened to me but completely changed her attitude when I said that Tendercrop mislabeled the Blueberry's which were in fact small Concord grapes, and that my Vet bills should be covered by Tendercrop. At that point she became belligerent, argumentative, and rude taking no responsibility. Never concerned about my dog. She then abruptly and unprofessionally hung up on me. I never cursed or said anything to deserve that treatment. At the hospital Molly was blood tested and given a fluid injection. Thankfully The blood tests were normal. We left the hospital around 4:30. The bill was $465.00 with Sunday ruined by stress and worry if my dog's kidneys were going to shut down and have to be hospitalized. Because of the delay that of the onset of kidney toxicity from the grapes we were told that Molly must be tested again in 48 hrs before we can breath easier that she's in a safe zone. Monday morning we called her regular Vet and made appointment to bring her in Tuesday the 6th for the critical second test. Mollys regular PCP stated that some dogs don't have a severe reaction to grapes and some do. And that Tuesday's test was critical. So the Tuesday came and thank God prayers were answered and her kidney function was normal. Another $100, $65 of which we can claim in the Trupanion coverage. We were considering small claims court for the $465 but with a filing fee of $125 it's a risk because the only proof of what happened would be the direct evidence of what my wife saw. And Tendercrop would counter that the Concord grapes were labeled correctly and a customer misplaced the box my wife picked up. It would be my wife's word against the store with no real proof on both sides. The magistrate would have to decide whose story was more convincing. So we decided to fold our cards and walk away with what is most important thing which is Mollys health. We are very disappointed in the conduct and unwillingness and total disregard of the management of the store to take any part in the responsibility of this incident. We will NEVER enter Tendercrop again.
