I'll start by saying the store is a complete zoo. Avoid nights and weekends, if possible. I made an appointment online and checked in when I got there. After waiting 40 minutes past my appointment, I asked if I was close to the top of the list. The lady said I was almost next, so be patient and someone will come over. It wasn't clear who was going to help me or how many people were waiting, but eventually (about 50 minutes after my appointment time) Darnell came up and checked out my phone. I was having trouble with the battery and needed a few accessories. He ran a utility that showed how robust my battery was showed me the little graph. After reviewing that my battery wasn't great, but also not terrible, he recommended I hold off on the $85 battery replacement and wait for my next upgrade. Darnell provided some awesome advice, but I felt like I had to beg for any kind of help. Why do they use the appointment system if you end up waiting anyway? read more

Took me several days to get a reservation here. Went in for a simple battery change and turns out they require you get a new screen as well if your screen is damaged so just be aware of that. They told me my phone would be ready in 2.5 hours so I came back and it still was not ready. Ended up waiting another hour. The staff is very unapproachable and overall the store is poorly set up. Can take forever to even talk to a worker because everyone's just sort of wandering around in a packed store. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences at the Apple Store. When I last brought my Mac in for a display issue the Genius helping me noticed a few other issues that he made sure to add to the service list. Then when my Mac was sent in for service they noticed a few other things that needed to addressed and fixed them all under Apple Care extended warranty. They could have just addressed the main issue I brought the Mac in for but made sure to cover issues they saw that I didn't even know were an issue. read more

My iphone 5s (less than a year old) suddenly stopped connecting to my cell phone provider's network on a Friday afternoon. No issue with my provider or my SIM card and none of the typical fixes could get it going again (restart, reset network setting, update software, erase contents). So without a landline phone, it was pretty important that I get the problem fixed. I went online to make an appointment with the Genius Bar, but the first available appointments were Monday evening--that meant three full days with no phone before someone could even look at it. I scheduled an appointment and headed to the store on the off chance that someone could try to help me. Drove across town to the store and was told that I had to have an appointment and the only available appointments were on Monday. I explained the urgency of the problem, but was told no one could help me until Monday. Great. So, on Monday I trek back to the Apple Store and a Genius confirms that my phone does not work and that it is under warranty. However, the store is out of stock of the iphone 5s and will have to order it for me. This means yet another trip to the store, but the Genius says orders typically arrive the next day and that someone will call me when it arrives. I remind him that I have no phone, so a call won't help much. He says I will get an email when it is ready. No email the next day. No email by 4:30pm the following day. I've now been without a phone for 5 days. I call Apple Care from work to see if I can get an update on the replacement order. Apple Care says they have to call the store to check with them. The Apple Care rep and I were on hold for 20+ minutes and she couldn't get anyone from the store to take her call because the store was so busy. I told her to forget about it. About an hour later, I received an email from Apple saying that my phone was ready for pickup "anytime." I make another trip out to the store the following morning -- the store opens at 9am for extended holiday hours. I arrive and I'm told that techs don't start until 10am, but someone might be able to help me. I wait around a few minutes and a tech arrives and gets me the replacement phone. Such a frustrating experience. The store is always teeming with sales associates (and customers) and hoards of people are always waiting to see a tech. Waiting three days for an appointment and another two days for a replacement is not acceptable when dealing with a non-working phone under warranty. read more

My iPhone 8+ had hardware issues. I went in and got a new phone within 25 minutes. The guy was very helpful. I asked if he could put my screen protector from my old phone into my new phone and he said most don't work very well but he took it off and put it on my new phone and it looks great. Having been a fan of Apple products and retailing for over 10 years, I can now say that extends beyond the functionality and experience to the amazing service. More specifically the genius bar and Greg Katechis. He treated my problem on my 4 year old iMac as if I had just purchased it new! Without dwelling on minor details I can say that if you don't know the problem... They will find it and fix it... With unequalled personal attention. Thank you Apple for hiring, training and retaining such incredible employees and creating a culture that allows them to make decisions on the spot that most retailers would never allow their associates to make without approvals! My MBPr charger cord frayed from regular wear and tear. These things are built to last really only 1 or 2 years from just regular use, even when you don't use the fold out flaps that come with it (I hadn't). I called this store and asked about possible replacement; the employee stated that if I simply brought in the charger to their store they'd see what they could do. I'm happy to report that they replaced the entire thing for free! Brand new charger, and no hassle at all. I gotta say these guys are great. Definitely going to keep me as a customer. Technically, this should be a zero star. Why? Well after two trips into the store, I have come out without a replacement charger for my MacBook. The first visit the store was swamped. A typical weekend. So instead of waiting forever to check out, my husband and I decided to come back during the week. No prob. This evening we walk into the store super pleased to see very few customers in the store. Beyond being greeted at the door, I walked right up to the product I needed, and walked toward the empty Genius Bar to purchase the charger. And then we waited. And waited. After making eye contact with multiple employees & fellow patrons noticing how ridiculous it was, we both left. I will not return to the store. I've owned Macs since 1999. The customer service is pretty nonexistent for the amount of employees "working" the floor. read more

I just had a terrible experience with the Apple Store. My one-year-old, under-warranty MacBook Air had issues, and I took it to the Genius Bar. The tech folks there couldn't find the root cause. They suggested I restore the system and told me to put my Microsoft Office programs on a USB zip drive. I did, and when I went to reinstall them, the programs were incompatible with the version of Mac OS I had to restore to. My computer ended up having to be sent in to be fixed for hardware issues, and I asked that the Apple Store replace my Office programs, since apparently they should have told me to make a Time Machine copy instead of putting it on a zip drive. They are refusing to replace the software now, saying they have it in their notes that they suggested a Time Machine copy (not true, my boyfriend was there with me and can attest to that). At this store you will always wait 15 minutes to be helped, even if you're just there to buy something. I am completely unhappy with the fact that the store did not stand behind their service. Go to an Apple Certified Dealer in Madison instead - you will have MUCH better service! read more

I've liked the Apple store in the past, so this review is based on an unacceptable experience I had at the store yesterday. I had made an appointment for a Genius Bar session - I had a number of questions and my Mac was throwing a lot of error log messages. I got to the store a few minutes early and was asked to sit on a stool at the bar, which I did. I waited 25 minutes and during that time NOT ONE employee addressed me or even made eye contact with me even though they were bustling around behind the bar. In vain I looked at them for some recognition that I was there but I might as well have been a piece of furniture for all the attention I got. I then got up and left not wanting to throw good time after bad. There was no one around to ask about my appointment. I consider this treatment of a loyal customer is entirely unsatisfactory. It's as if they couldn't care less about my time and my problem. They may be technically knowledgeable but their customer relation skills are at the bottom. They might want to consider having someone who is responsible for checking with the customers from time to time to at least let them know their place in the queue and that they are aware the customer is waiting. There was no such person and, since all the employees dress the same, I couldn't even tell who the techs were. I will go back because my issues need addressing, but I will leave plenty of wait time. read more

I pay a LOT of money to have Apple products. I've had Mac since the Mac Classic came out and the apple had rainbow colors. The experience I had at this Madison store makes me want to rethink Apple (gasp!) - cue the spontaneous combustion smoke. I had an appointment, showed up on time, waited well beyond my appointed time, and was treated as though it was my privilege to be at the store rather than an esteemed customer, and I needed to mind my business and earn my lumps by waiting. And waiting. And waiting...while I listened to one Apple employee talk to another Apple employee about a shoe sale going on in the mall. I now have gray hair thanks to Apple. They should throw in a hair appointment for my time there, and also throw in a new pair of shoes since they're such a great deal. Size 8.5, Apple. Write that down; I'll patiently wait for the voucher but you'll probably have me take a number a wait in line at the store again. Instead, I was treated like Jennifer Anniston in the SNL skit - like I couldn't play with the smart kids. I had the proverbial pat on the head and "Mommy's busy working. Be good and stay quiet". My phone has a software issue that should be covered by Apple. Period. It's in the one ton of paperwork you get when you buy the phone - that's why you walk out the store with a reinforced paper bag that has handles and not a small bag that can accommodate a phone. The bag can handle the weight of the paperwork and the way overpriced Otter Box that we all purchase through a consumer high after getting a new iPhone. Regardless, in this store the attendants were late, off-putting, irritated that they had to be there, working, and completely oblivious to the fact that I also have a life and schedule- 4 kids, one of which who has decided to quit college to find herself, so I don't have a lot of time or money to just hang out and play with the Apple toys, all of which will be replaced by a newer, greater version in about 18 minutes. Long story short, they pushed the new iPhone and said I'd need to upgrade. I just did but iPhones breed like bunnies and I can't keep up. Nor can my husband. We literally have a total of 11 iPhones in my home. Some are glitchy, some are working, and some are "backups" but don't work and I hate to just toss them because they're iPhones. (Read: 3 iPhone 5c's). Apple used to have the techy market - no doubt. But now other brands are on Apple's heels so they better start playing nice. It's not a privilege to allow me time in their store. It's their privilege to have costumers such as myself who appreciate their products and has Macbooks (5), iPads (3), iPhones, iWatches (2), etc. Or used to. Now I want to use my ill-tempered phone as a coaster. A pretty, large-faced, rose-gold coaster, but that's about it. I shall place my new Samsung on it to keep it from getting wet. Apple: Give me a call for my shoe selection and a replacement phone (which is in the contract, page 362, paragraph 9, subsection 8) in place of the rotten customer service. I made an appt for Tuesday 8:15pm by phone (called the Apple store). I was 20 minutes early to my appt and was told that they were "running on time" so I should wait. I waited, but I was not helped on time at 8:15. Instead, I had to wait until 8:45, then a technician was available to help me. Why did the Apple store not have a technician available for my scheduled appt? This store is either understaffed (of technicians) or the appts need to be scheduled differently. The time is takes to replace the battery is 45 minutes, but because I was not assisted at my scheduled time and the store closed at 9pm, I had to leave my laptop at the store and return the next day. I could have avoided a trip to the Apple store if the appt was either (1) done at the time it was supposed to get done, 8:15 not 8:45; or (2) the store had scheduled a time for me that had a technician available. Even though the technician who did finally help me was nice, it was a very frustrating experience and made me think that I should take my laptop to get a battery replaced some where else next time. Basically: Employees super nice. Apple needs to get it together and not be cheap with hiring technicians. Could they do something about the acoustics? The noise level is killer. read more

Went to the Apple store because my iPhone 4S wifi wouldn't connect to secured servers. Before scheduling an appointment, I had my boyfriend who is a computer scientist and IOS Mobile App Developer take a look. After playing around with the phone, he suggested we take it to the Apple Store because he figured it was a technical issue and wanted them to run a diagnosis test. We got lucky super one day. Went right on the website and saw 1 appointment slot available for the rest of the weekend for 10:40am on a Saturday. Get there, checked in and waited a good 20 minutes for our guy came to see it. I am 100% positive we were forgotten about. Other people who came well after us were getting helped before we did. We sought an associate to see what was the deal and he said someone was coming in a very rude way. Whatever. I just want to know what is wrong with my phone. Finally, after waiting another 5 minutes, our guy comes ( am not sure what to call them). I let my boyfriend do the talking since he is far my advanced than I am when it comes to technology. He suggest to the Apple associate that he should try to connect to a secure server and not the guest wifi. The guy ignored my BF and connects to the guest wifi and thinks there is nothing wrong with the phone. We told him connecting to unsecured accounts wasn't the issue before hand and he didn't listen. OK fine. I am OK with you not just taking our word for it. He tells us he doesn't know the secured wifi for the store password which I find hard to believe but because there was a network called "Apple Break Room Wifi" or something to that extent. As a sales associate, I expect you do know the break room wifi. He seemed upset that he has to go find it. We asked him if he would run a diagnosis and he refused. I was beyond annoyed. At this point, I wanted to say "F" it and just leave the store. He tracks down the password and behold, everything we told him panned out. My phone wouldn't connect to secured wifi servers! He then gives us some bogus instructions for how to fix it and was trying to pretty much kick us out of the store because he no longer wanted to work with us. Good thing I brought my BF with me. He started speaking more "technical" jargon in which the Apple associate realizes he was not speaking with your typical customer but actually someone who knows what he is talking about. He quickly changes his approach and actually started to try to help us out. In fact, my BF starts thinking out loud giving himself instructions and the Apple Associate pretty much seemed over his head. It was a wasted trip. I honestly feel, and I am not trying to use the sexist card, had I walked into the Apple store by myself, they totally would have sent me on my way without trying to see to it that I was somewhat satisfied with my visit. Instead, I bring a (male) person who knows possibly more than they do totally showed him up and we finally were treated with some respect. I avoid Apple Store at all cost. They are always extremely busy, waiting times are horrible even with an appointments and it's hard to get quality assistance. I think this has a lot to do with people coming into the store who are just there to go on the internet. It's cool to have an Apple Store in Madison but I almost feel like there needs to be two. For the amount of people who own Apple products, this one store cannot keep up with the demand and it totally affects customer service. This store is see-it-from-space bright and about 5,000 degrees. And outside of coffee shops in Manhattan, I have never seen so many hipsters clustered into one space: all very friendly and VERY ready to help, mind you. I had an appointment to get my computer looked at (black screen of death, RIP Macbook Pro). The technician was quite friendly, sympathetic, and funny, but I got the sense (affirmed by a past employee) that the tech support department is very high-throughput, and degenerates quickly to helpful--but unwanted--suggestions that the sales department would be oh-so-happy to help customers find a new computer (or whatever product). I'm sure they would. Taken together, the store has a very high-pressure atmosphere that I'm really not a fan of, but the people I've interacted with are really great and good at what they do. read more

So I wanted to buy a new Apple TV so I went to the store a lady who work there I guess ask if I had an appointment I said no then she said what are you here I told her I want to buy something in the store that will take two seconds she said I can't go in with out an appointment I ask when's the next one she said a hour from now so I left I think Apple should just allow a few people in and then when the people leave they can send more people on like if I went to a restaurant now I don't need an appointment I just walk up and say a table for this many people so I bought my Apple TV online and did curb side I told them I was there I waiting around 35 min in a 15 min parking spot that they told me to park in I went back up to the store and they said oh sorry we were not checking our computer they have there own System due to the virus which I understand but there really not following it hope the switch things up read more

It is ridiculous that you make an appointment at this store and then proceed to wait 1 hour or more after your appointment time to be seen by a technician. This happens every time I visit the store. Madison is FAR too big of a city with so many Apple users to have just one store. They certainly could make a profit having another store. Definition of bad customer service to a T. I dropped my iPhone 5s and the screen went black immediately. The phone would vibrate and make noises when connected to the ribbon, but the screen is just dead (but no cracks or anything). I do not have insurance through my carrier, so I went to the Apple Store to see if they could do anything since the phone was only a week past the 1 year warranty date. I sat there for about an 1 hour before a "genius" was able to attend to me. I told them that I suspect it was only the screen/LCD, but he dismissed it right away without even testing it. He attempted 2 iTunes restore, which did not work. He plugged it to a device that's supposed to check how much battery the phone is pulling and told me that it was not enough (mind you the phone has been sitting unused for 2 weeks prior to this), and that it must be the battery. He took it to the back and came back with the worst news, the motherboard was damaged and the phone is virtually irreplaceable. He quoted me $260 for out of warranty replacement for a refurbished 5s. I took it to a repair store and was told that: 1) they might be trying to fry the logic board by doing multiple resets on it when it wasn't needed. 2) they did not put the bottom screws back on my phone before giving it to back to me. 3) this was "one of the worst jobs Apple has done." If you don't have Applecare, unlimited hours/money to waste, or the patience of a saint, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. They will not be able to diagnose the problem properly, and definitely will not be able to fix it. read more

Having been to various Apple stores, the Madison location gave very good service at the Genius bar (I had made an appointment online). The employee I dealt with was very friendly and dealt with my problem quickly and efficiently. This is rarely the case at Apple stores! So, yay Madison West Towne! read more

My experience with Apple Store service tends to be totally hit or miss. I went in yesterday psyched to purchase my first iPhone (I know, I know, what is this, 2011?) and my soaring expectations and puppy dog excitement were dashed when I had to elbow my way to an employee. When I was helped the Apple team member seemed virtually clueless on how to go through with the transaction. She called over two other employees to help punch in the order to bring out a phone. Once I had the phone in hand (hell yeah!) I was quickly and professionally helped by another team member to import my contacts but felt frustrated it took twice as long as necessary to complete the simple order. I'd go back to West Towne, but not before troubleshooting with Apple over the phone. read more

Great Apple Store location. Lots of products to try out in store. Couple of drawbacks: if you don't have an appointment it can be difficult to get service, even if you are just coming in to simply buy a phone case for example; finding someone to ring you up and take your cash can be challenging. Other drawback is that the store really needs to be bigger. It gets crowded quickly and is always hopping (good for Apple) but doesn't always make for the most enjoyable sing experience. Highly recommend using the Apple Store app to set up appointment ahead of time and even to reserve products for pick ups if you know what your coming in to buy ahead of time. read more

I came here on January 30th. It was without a doubt the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life. I came there for a data transfer from my old computer and as soon as I got there they told me they were incapable of doing that. This was kind of a bummer seeing as though I had waited a whole week for this appointment and spent $30 on an Uber to the store. It was fine though because the guy at the store told me I could possibly do it at my house even though my screen was broken if I could hook it up to another screen. Since my hard drive was already taken out of my computer do to water damage I asked if they could put my hard drive back in (a process that would take less than 5 minutes). All that had to be done was unscrew the back put it back in and then screw it closed. The Apple store guy called another employee in a bright pink hat over who was 100% worse and more rude than the first guy. He told me no and if I wanted it done I would have to wait at least 2-3 days after directly telling me it would only take him 5 minutes to do. I explained to him my situation that I would understand but I would need to pay another $30 each way in Uber's to go out to the store. I would usually expect a refund for that type of thing but this guy could care less about my money and any Apple customers. Now I would do this myself but there is a very specific screwdriver needed that I did not have. After refusing to do it for me I asked them if they could just give me the screwdriver and let me do it myself right there in the store. Again he refused and when I asked him why I couldn't he stuttered and had no response at first eventually saying that the tools were hidden and that customers aren't even allowed to look at them. Then he proceeded to tell me again I would have to come all the way out there and spend over $60 of my money if I wanted to get the back of my computer unscrewed and screwed back on. Usually l never have problems with people in customer service but me writing this doesn't even do justice to how rude this guy was. I want my money back from those rides. read more

I ordered Air Pod Pros in February 2020 with pick up at the Apple Store in Madison, WI. My credit card was charged by Apple on 3/11. The Apple Store closed on 3/16 due to COVID19. Apple did nothing to make sure I was credited. I waited patiently. In mid-May, when I noticed the Air Pod Pros were available online, I emailed Apple as to where my engraved Air Pod Pros might be. On May 26, the Apple Store opened again. I called Apple online to make sure my product was at the store. I was on the phone, and waiting for a call back for hours. After talking to a customer service rep and then a supervisor (Deon), they assured me my product was at Apple (Madison, WI). I went there. Waited in line! There were a bunch of unfit, barrel chested security guards out front, and some sleepy eyed Apple Store reps, basically sending every customer away. I spoke with a young lady, and then she summoned "Mark" who stated with a smile that my product was not in the storage room. Mark did nothing to help. After that, I called Apple. Ten days later, I called Apple again. Finally, the last person I talked to at Apple was Jake. He said the product was returned to the warehouse and he was issuing me a ticket for refund. He stated that no one Apple person had issued me a refund, and no one even put the ticket in for a refund. Supposedly, when the product was returned from the Apple Store in Madison, to the warehouse in Tennessee, an automatic refund should have been issued. Finally, on June 24th, I was issued a refund to my credit card from Apple. #sad #terriblecustomerservice #notworldclass Bottom line is this...... The Apple customer service is awful and the Apple staff at the Madison, (Hilldale) Store did nothing to make it better. They threw their hands up in the air, and it was not their problem. The message is clear. And by the way, it took 3.5 months to get a refund from a purchase I did not receive. I spent hours trying to resolve this issue. Yes, I did get my money back, but I have a resounding, residual bitter taste in my mouth about Apple anything. read more

Sooooo...I go to this apple store looking for phone case, air pods and info on Apple TV. I pick up some AirPods off the shelf. After about 10 minutes I realize NO ONE has greeted me or asked if I need help. I also notice I'm the ONLY African American in the store that was full of people and there were no African American or people of color working at the store at this time. I walk around the store literally 10 times, still even with product in hand no one ask me if I needed help. Lots of people working, 15-20 employees. All sitting with little old white ladies. One employee actually looked right at me and gave me a head nod, and said nothing. Finally after TWENTY FIVE minutes in the store a female employee asked me if I needed help. I said yes and asked her if Apple treated all of their customers this way. She kinda laughed it off and said, "that shouldn't happen", I said well it just did happen. Terrible service . Waited 29 minutes on hold, asked about my sons cracked screen , how much to replace ~then went through 10 minutes of serial numbers etc just to have her tell me it could be anything~ it needs to be looked at .I could have googled the cost which I just should have. My son had to repeat all the numbers to her because she couldn't get it right. Waste of 40 minutes of my life and no help! read more

After a HORRIFIC experience at Best Buy (east side), I came here. Other than being very busy, this place was great! They explained everything in detail. The Apple care was NOT pushed on me, but rather presented to me to show its benefits. Accessories were pointed out but not pushed on me. Their price was a little higher then Best Buy's, but definitely worth the extra money I spent. The experience was fantastic. No fake sales people pretending to care about me and my family just to sell me something. This was a one on one experience. I came in looking for a computer, not a new friend. I left with a computer and a great place to return to if I ever need anything else. Best Buy should be ashamed of themselves for how they treat customers. They had a customer within their reach and they let me get away because of one HORRIBLE salesperson. (Oh yeah, and I didn't have to sign up for a Apple credit card to use the student discount DUH). So this store is good and bad. The good...great variety of Apple products, always in stock and I never have to go elsewhere or online to get something. The bad..The service: A majority of the time it's been horrible. One Example: I came here to look at an apple watch. I looked for 10 minutes and then I tried to find help. All employees were busy with others so I didn't want to be rude an interrupt. 10 to 15 minutes later I finally got an employees attention who was rushing to another part of the store and asked for some help. He said I would need to find someone with a tablet who could help me. Another 10 minutes of looking for someone with a tablet I could talk with, I finally interrupted someone who was talking to a customer ( and they gave me a bad look, like "what do I want" and a huff) they took my name down on the table and said someone will come and help me, pretty much ignored me and focused back on the customer. About 20 minutes later I finally had an employee approach me for help. I was so sick of waiting and didn't want to wait again I ended up looking at the watch and purchasing it. It's a great way to get people to buy products. Get them so frustrated in waiting just to ask questions they just buy it so they don't need to wait again. This is purely a staffing issues. While wasting time waiting I heard and noticed more than a dozen others get frustrated and just leave the store as they were either not being helped or sick of waiting on some electronic list. Apple makes some great products but their customer service at this stores sucks. read more
