OMG!!! Four of us girls were on our way home to Seattle and stopped at the Apple Cup Cafe in Chelan. We were greeted by a sassy server named Kathy aka Grumpy. She was fantastic and has a great knack of 'telling you how it is' with quick wit and dry humor. She had us in stitches and now is our new best friend. And then we ordered breakfast and the food was great. And who knew they had just won Evening Magazine's Best of Award...what?!?! The three of us had dinner there on Wednesday night around the 7 o'clock hour. We ordered 2 Chef Specials which were the T-bone french dip sandwich meals, and a Rib steak dinner, a milkshake, the trio dessert sampler, 2 apple cobblers, and 2 beers. The check came to about $75. The portions were well sized. We took home left overs. The Chef Specials came with auj jus and french fries and were really good. When I first looked at my plate the steak was accompanied with the mashed potatoes that I requested and a veggie which was zucchini and squash. I normally don't like the bitter taste of zucchini and squash blend, but I gave it a go and I was quite surprised. It was DELICIOUS, well seasoned, no bitter taste. It was the best thing on the plate. The mashed potatoes were good too. The steak that I requested medium rare was extremely fatty, quite bland. It was not a rib steak and had no bone. It was an undercooked prime rib cut. Salt and pepper didn't really do much to flavor it, and A-1 was too heavy. Aus jus brought out the flavor, but what it really needed was to be cooked on a flame just a few minutes more. I had to microwave the leftover meat about 3 minutes to become a normal edible consistency. My daughter and I were debating what milkshake flavor to get. I wanted peanut butter chocolate and she wanted Oreo. Instead of a never-ending back and forth stalemate we decided to give our compromise a try: peanut butter chocolate oreo. Wow, what a yummy invention! They also have homemade desserts displayed in the desert case. The apple cobblers were good. The trio sampler with the chocolate pudding cake, meyer lemon cake, and the blueberry cheesecake were rich and yummy. Definitely brought it as leftovers to our hotel room to snack on repeatedly. We had two different waitresses- one to seat us and get our drinks. When we walked in it was a full dining room with people finishing their meals so the dining area we were in dwindled down just to one other table when we had ordered another beer half way through the meal. After 10 minutes or so we realized she forgot about us. We tried to flag her attention but she remained oblivious. The other waitress who was kind enough to check on us, who i believe is the head waitress, seemed more experienced and knowledgeable than the younger, previous waitress who failed to inform us of the beer choices on tap, so ended up with a Bud Light... I discovered this diner a few years back and am a repeat customer here when I visit Chelan. This is a very quaint, homey, cozy, friendly diner that I would recommend. They seem to have the weeks' specials posted and it appears they have a special every day. They also have the Fireside Lounge on the other side of the restaurant. read more

I'm not sure if we ate at the bizzaro world version of this place but it was horrible. We went for dinner and it took over a 1/2 hour to cook our meal with a nearly empty restaurant. Food tasted below average and looked worse. The vegetables were soaked in oil or butter...couldn't tell. The fish I ordered tasted dry and I had to cut it with knife. The people behind me left 3/4 of their meal behind. The worst part was listening to another table complain about the dry meat and the waiter laughing and saying "of course it's dry..it was cooked at 11 am this morning...I never order the daily special". He offered them gravy to moisten the pork roast. The desserts are microwaved to warm up and are below average. They use soft serve ice cream on your dessert which doesn't taste good either. The waiter ended up comping two meals of "dry meat" to the other table and I contemplated asking for the same but didn't. I don't understand where the good reviews come from. The kicker was when he brought me the clam chowder and asked me if it was too cold as they had "just put it out"...it was 7 pm...what time do they open the can and microwave the soup...I wonder? It tasted worse than Progresso canned soup. read more

Awesome awesome breakfast! Service was on point. The owner and staff are just good people. I use Yelp often but admit I have only signed up for an account to leave a review here. I live in the Seattle area and left my purse with cash, gift cards, credit cards, everything! And they were kind enough to send it back to me with no hesitation. It's occurrences like these that remind me that we live in a world full of good souls. I love Apple Cup Café for so many reasons! We normally come here for breakfast, but since we had breakfast at our hotel, we decided to come for dinner with the kids. We were greeted promptly and seated right away. I had a pretty good Caesar salad, but the chicken was a bit over done. They have a pretty good menu for kids, smiley face pancake, chocolate chip pancakes,chicken strips, burger, and mac and cheese. I've had breakfast here before and the pancakes are buttery and delicious. read more

This is a standard diner-like breakfast place. The service, when you get it, is very nice and friendly. Sometimes you have to sit and wait for a while though. The food is typical hearty breakfast (and lunch) food. We never seem to be very hungry when we go here, so we always get something small, like the english muffin breakfast sandwich (which is actually quite good). We will have to go for the gusto next time and stuff ourselves silly. My favorite thing about this place is that if you want a latte, they will walk over to the latte stand in the parking lot and get it for you. And they're good latte's too! We were quite pleased with the quality of food and service and would definitely return to this restaurant the next time we pass through Chelan. For dinner, the Café offers quite a nice range of breakfast, sandwich and dinner entrée options, including daily specials. Our group ordered breakfast entrees, sandwiches, and dinner specials. The kids loved the selection from their menu as well. I noticed that the other reviewers did not mention much about dinner and wanted to alert others to this Cafe's great options for families. read more

Stopped here on our way out of town. The hash browns were great, the omelets delicious and the French toast was the bomb!!!

Great place overall and delicious food. It did seem a little dirty with windowsills needing a clean but the service was great and the food was fantastic. Any place where they come by and ask how things are going is usually a place that has good service. They were friendly and asked if we needed more drinks. There were three of us and we had the chicken fried steak, the fish and chips and the eggs bearnaise. The chicken fried steak was tender and had a nice white sauce on it. The fish from the fish and chips was great. We asked to replace the chips with a salad which was no problem. The eggs bearnaise was yummy too. Big portions. read more

We love this dinner. Spent a week in Chelan and had breakfast here more times then one should mention. The food was awesome and the service was grwat. They also own a coffee shop in the same parking lot - the mocha are wonderful and you can order them when are in the restaurant. Want to go back to Chelan just for The Apple Cups food! read more

After a dismal dinner at Stormy Mountain Brewery the night before, we were hesitant to try another "recommended" establishment in Chelan. However, our sense of adventure got the best of us so we popped into the Apple Cup Cafe. The host was standing at the entry way with two menus in his hand, greeted us with a smile and led us to a table. My wife ordered the Cottage Cheese pancakes with orange syrup and hasn't stopped raving ever since. The place was really busy but there wasn't ever a wait for coffee or our meals. The staff was as pleasant as could be and the place is just an ol fashioned diner kind of establishment. It's a long drive from our home near Seattle but I'm sure we'll be heading back for breakfast before year's end. read more

Just had dinner tonight because of all the good reviews. Boy was I disapointed. Service was very slow and food was cold. I had pie for desert and I could not even cut the crust with a knife. It was old and stale. Stay away from this place and don't make the same mistake I did. read more

Great service and bar! Had great burgers and bloody Mary's. A little off the beaten path but worth the extra step!

Went here for dinner, glad we found the bar section, diner side was noisy. We asked to move but keep our server, not a problem! Bar area had big screen TVs and no children. I just ate there for lunch today. I was very disappointed. There weren't many people in there, but I waited by myself to be seated. It's not that they were busy. After being seated and seeing what was going on in there, I knew why. I was an outsider. It was like a family reunion and I wasn't family. Everyone was shooting me looks that were not friendly ones. I ordered a veggie burger. I was expecting a decent one considering it was over $11.00!! It wasn't. It was nothing more than what you'd find in the frozen foods section at Walmart. It was a little puck of who knows what. There was a lot of lettuce, tomato, and onion to make up for the fact that the buns were for a regular sized hamburger and the patty I got was a silver dollar. So, It was over before it began. The French fries that accompanied this disappointment were just average. I drank water. With a side of pickled jalapenos (they didn't have real ones) the total came to over $13.00. NOT WORTH IT. Burger King sells a veggie burger that's about the same. The Apple Cup is indeed a staple in the town of Chelan, and in the past I would have given the Café good marks. The problem is that the place is old and they have pulled the life support. I ate a steak dinner this evening, the steak was bland, no consistently in quality from one cook to another. Bland food from time to time can be forgiven. What cannot be forgiven is the flies swarming in and on my food all meal long and the comment from the waiter that ("they are a problem"). Flies are a symptom of a larger problem. Flies need water and rotting protein to flourish. Apple cup is in bad need of a top to bottom cleaning. Dust falling from light fixtures, blinds filthy counters and storage areas in poor repair. I have enjoyed myself in the café in the past, my experience tonight was disgusting. Did not want to make a scene, but the place needs to be cleaned and SOON. Quaint is one thing, dirty and wore out is something else. The food for the most part is a 4 out of 5, and its being served in a 1 star environment. read more
