AppeThai is probably THE most adorable place I've ever been to with amazing Thai dishes. The interior is full of natural light from lots of windows, it has rustic wooden tables and chairs, crate wine racks behind the bar, and vintage thai soda posters decorating the walls... plus outdoor patio seating! AppeThai is such a great addition to Browndeer. The Pad kee mao was the best I've ever had. Flavored and cooked to perfection with the noodles having a little bit of a crunchy exterior from cooking in the wok with the sauce. Yum! The service was wonderful... our waitress didn't even complain when we needed to split our check four ways. It can definitely get busy during lunch time so arrive before 12 pm! read more

Ambience was good. We took the Chicken Satay for appetizer. It came with a peanut sauce and a sweet sauce on the side along with a bread. It was decent, no complaints. We got the Yellow Curry with tofu for entree. Portion was good enough for two small eaters like us. They have 3 spice levels and we got the medium (level 2). The menu card called this the "you'll reach for your water" level. I didn't take that seriously considering I'm Indian and can handle my spices. But this curry was so hot! Though the taste of the curry was really really good, the heat didn't really let us enjoy the taste. Luckily it was not something beyond what our tastebuds couldn't handle, which Im sure how the level 3 would have been. I don't know if anyone can even tolerate level 3, going by how we barely survived level 2. I had to ask our server if it was really level 2 that was given to us. I think we would have really enjoyed the food if we had taken a level 1. It would have been helpful if the server mentioned that the spice levels in this restaurant are way higher than any other Thai restaurant. And finally, we got the chocolate lava cake with strawberry wine sauce. It was divine! We had ordered it mostly to recover from our burning tongues, but I'm glad we did. So yes, it's a very good Thai place, but beware of your spice levels! If I'm back in Milwaukee, I would like to go back! read more

Finally a Thai restaurant in Milwaukee that has the depth of flavors I'm used to. We ordered a variety of basic dishes to see if this could be our go-to Thai place, and it was like I was finally getting authentic Thai food for the first time since moving here. I LOVE Thai food and I really really wanted to like this place. I was so excited something was opening on the northside, but I'm honestly not sure we would ever go back. We ordered two different curries and there was a layer of oil in each. The veggies listed on menu were not what actually came with our meals. The red curry actually had really great flavor, it unfortunately only had 2 pieces of chicken and maybe 1/2 cup of vegetables. It was def not enough for a lunch, let alone a dinner - and at the price, it was almost insulting they served it. We will keep driving to downtown or the east side I guess. read more

I've never experienced Thai like this. It was so fresh, flavorful & had great spice. All their noodles are made in-house! Once again - they make their own noodles! Plus all the produce used is fresh not frozen. I think it's unfair to compare this restaurant to any typical Thai take out restaurant. Appethai is special. The food is good and the service is polite. They answered all of my questions about what was on the menu. The merlot wasn't too good but the Cabernet was fantastic. My food came out extremely fast so that was great. It's also well decorated so I didn't feel like I was doing anything classless. I'll come here again read more

I've eaten a lot of Thai food all over the country and have very high standards. I'd be really hard on a place that served dumb down Americanized Thai food with little flavor or spice. That is not the case with AppeThai. We ordered quite a bit of food and everything was pretty spot on in terms of flavor. Very good red curry. Not too soupy. Not too thick. Good depth of flavor. Drunken noodles were small step down. Didn't have enough thai basil or spice for my liking. Same story with Thai Fried Rice. Appetizers were exceptionally good and exceptionally small. We received 1/2 of a grilled Thai sausage for $8. Same was true for the Nua Yang (charred beef). There was literally one oz. of beef on the plate. Very good dipping sauces for both. Pot stickers were more appropriate for portion size (although I didn't try one). The biggest disappointment was the lack of meat in any of our three entrees. If you're going to charge $13-$15 for an entree, there better be something more than noodles, rice, bamboo shoots. We kept on inquiring with each other at our table about whether anyone had meat on their plates. Nope. I really want to like this place, but I can't overlook the lack of meat in dishes and the painfully small portioned appetizers. read more

Ordered their shrimp fried rice and was asked if i wanted basil fried rice. I explained that I wanted mild and when it was picked up it was extremely spicy. I called and tried to explain and the person there stated that was what I ordered and basically that it was my fault. I asked could I get it mild, and she kept on explaining that it was my fault. That quart of rice was almost $20 dollars and she would not make this right for me. If they treat their repeat clients this way then I do not need to ever go back. I will let my friends, relatives and anyone else listening that are horrible when it comes to service. I will never promote this restaurant and I hope any of you will not promote it either!!! read more

Wanted to try out a new place to see if there was something I would be missing out on so I took my family here for dinner. Nice place and atmosphere. Waitress took our order only to miss the chicken fried rice but bought it out quick after she bought out all the food. Instead of admitting she missed the order she denied it. The fried rice was too soggy my kids didn't like it but had to eat it. The chicken valcano was okay I expected more sauce because the chicken wasn't as tasty with only the sauce they already poured on it. The fried potsticker was okay and the crab ragoon was good. The chicken satay was good and the best dish was the chicken Pad Thai. If i ever come back for food it will be the chicken pad thai and crab ragoon. read more

Did a carry out and I wasn't impressed. I got the massamun curry, Thai style fried rice, and pad see ewe. First I'll say the rice that came with the curry smelled like old rice. The curry had a mixed taste between red curry and massamun curry which kind of threw me off, but I like it. The Thai style fried was delicious. I enjoyed it a lot, but eating it halfway there was two huge tomatoes that looked like they were thrown in there and it was super oily towards the bottom. The pad see ewe was extremely bland and the noodles are just too big for my liking. Overall, I would never dine. I will continue going to the east side for Thai food. read more

The spice levels are accurate, the food remains hot on the drive back to the office, and the service is friendly without being overkill. Had the Pad Kee Mao with chicken and Kang kaen wan as a main dishes with native Thai spicy on the first (3 peppers on their menu) and medium on the second (2 peppers) and Thai iced tea. Also chocolate lava cake for dessert. Everything was absolutely fantastic! Easily the best Thai food in the area since Singha Thai was at its peak several years ago and winning awards. Tried this place for the first time while visiting friends in Brown Deer, and will probably go back. Our party shared a plate of tofu skewers for an appetizer, which were good. They came with a clear sauce; next time I may ask to get a side of peanut sauce too to mix things up. I got a nice big serving of green curry. There were big coins of cooked bamboo that gave the dish an interesting twist, though I missed the Thai eggplant that often comes as part of this dish. The heat level for mild was a good balance between not being so bland as to make the dish boring and being too spicy. My friend got a coconut soup, which she enjoyed, and her foodie husband pronounced his medium hot Pad Thai to be spot on. Both my friend and I got fresh coconut juice; I like the canned stuff, but this is a level beyond in fresh deliciousness. Get some! Service was good, atmosphere and decor pleasant. Stopped in on a whim during our short stay in Mequon and was more than surprised. The food was so delicious and fresh. All the veggies used were crisp and fresh. The taste was amazing. Legit. A bit pricey for what I pay for at other areas, but is clean and authentic. It's the best in the brown deer area. Service is good.
