This experience has been phenomenal for the 7 years I've been with Dr. Aaron. I came to him in 2018 after being neglected by my oral surgeon, who had placed two implants, and the dentist who had done the crowns. I had suspicion something was going on as one was wiggling. Dr. Aaron jumped on it and was able to identify malpractice and addressed the offending surgeon (Dr. Vaina of IVOMS in Peru, IL) to have it corrected. I went back to the offending surgeon (due to cost reasons and giving him a chance to fix it) and about 6 surgeries later, I was even worse off. Dr. Aaron investigated and created a course of action, which involved referring me to a new surgeon, Dr. Frank of Northshore Smile Surgery, who proceeded to perform a miracle to restore my gums to full health. Dr. Aaron created me a temporary fix to keep my teeth in place which held me in tact for five years. In October 2024, despite living in another state, I called Dr. Aaron and let him know the remaining implant was showing really bad signs and he confirmed my thoughts and told me to come in that week to have it addressed. I traveled 10 hours to see him and he was incredibly thorough and sensitive in handling the issue and it was deemed I had to go back to Dr. Frank to correct more malpractice from the offending surgeon at IVOMS (Dr. Vaina). Dr. Aaron set me up in a temporary bridge to help keep the aesthetics of my gums in tact and so as to not leave me toothless in the front as a young woman and bride to be. After the two month healing period, he squeezed me back in his schedule as I traveled 10 hours to see him again through Michigan winter madness. After 8 years of pain and trauma from other providers, Dr. Aaron took care of me at the highest level. He was the only one willing to identify and tackle this complex and heartbreaking nightmare, he handled each step over 8 years so tactfully and was truly invested in not only my business, but genuinely cared about my well being and wanted to see me find my dream smile. Dr. Aaron has truly gone above and beyond for me in every single aspect of my care for almost a decade, every dentist should be at his level. His sense of ethics, his personality, his attention to detail, his level of care... he's second to none. As a former dental professional myself, after working with him, it makes me never want to go anywhere else the rest of my life. The rest of the staff is fantastic too! Occasionally the other doctors would get involved in my case and were always very direct and clear while showing empathy for the situation. The front office staff and manager Kathy are wonderful and really helpful, always making sure to give any information needed and working around my wild schedule being out of state. The assistants are all fantastic and incredibly personable as well, I've always enjoyed each one I've had and have been pretty consistent faces over the years! You can't ask for a better dental office from start to finish. They even have a service dog on site, which has been amazing through something that's been traumatic to go through and recover from. I wouldn't be here tonight with my dream smile if it wasn't for Dr. Aaron saving me from malpractice from another office. I have been a patient at this dental group for several years, and loved the practice until I had an emergency. I was in pain on a Thursday and was told no one was available to see me until Monday. At that point, the pain was manageable, and I agreed to wait. Thursday evening the pain was unbearable. I had no sleep, and when I tried making an emergency appointment, I was told I needed to wait for Monday or go to an emergency room. This is unacceptable.i will be find a new practice. After going to this dentist office for over 15 years, I am disappointed to have to write this review. Once Dr. Stuart retired and I started seeing Dr. Joel things changed. I was being told that I needed work done at every appt. On my last visit, I was told I needed a root canal and was then given a $350 CT that was not covered by insurance. I was doubtful that I needed a root canal given the absence of pain I felt like the last time I needed one and the fact that I was told only after a few minutes that this was the case. It was never pointed out to me on the x-ray or the CT. I went for a second opinion and was told that I in fact DID NOT need a root canal. This was backed up with an explanation for what was happening to my tooth and x-rays that when explained to me clearly showed that I did not need a root canal. When I called to ask for a refund of my $350 it was refused. I will not be returning and am posting this as a warning to others-do your research. read more

From the start of my appointment with the front office personnel, to the dental assistants, to the dentist my treatment was just "over the top". The front office was very attentive to my needs and schedule and did their best to accommodate me. The dental assistants were knowledgeable, kind and comforting. I saw Dr Lester and Dr Joel and they were experienced, compassionate, gentle and painless. I love that they consult with each other to formulate a treatment plan. I've had many terrible experiences with dentists in the past, and coming to this office was a revelation. Since going to this office, both my husband and I have completely changed our outlook on going to the dentist. My husband hadn't been to the dentist and years, and when I finally dragged him there he needed many cavities filled and a root canal. I was afraid he was going to freak out and not go through with any of it, but after his first meeting with Dr. Lester, he said he felt very assured that they were going to do everything as quickly and painlessly as possible, and he had no qualms with going back to see him as much as he needed to in order to get everything resolved. Dr. Lester didn't make him feel guilty about not going to the dentist for years, he just told him straight what was going on in his mouth and what needed to happen -- a welcome change from every other dentist either of us had ever been to. Dr. Lester is very friendly and enjoyable to talk to and he is direct and efficient. You can also really tell that the staff work well together and enjoy being there -- I think this is a very rare thing and is worth noting. Nothing is worse than being in a dental or medical office where the staff want to leave as badly or worse than you do. This is not the case here, and it makes for a very friendly and much more calming environment. If you hate going to the dentist now, you should go to their office -- I guarantee you will feel much better about it after being there once. read more

Joel , Lester, and Stuart (an now Aaron) are always pleasant, truly nice men, who love what they do, and are current on all the latest technology. I decided to try this dental group after having been with another group for years and I was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Lester and his staff are very nice and friendly but what I was most impressed by was how painless my filling was. For years when my previous dentist numbed me with shots they would push the needle so far and deep that I had sensitivity and pain afterwards for months. I just thought that was how it was supposed to be but Dr. Lester gave me one very painless shot and took care of me in record time with little residual symptoms afterwards. WARNING! UNETHICAL PRACTICE! I have been a patient there for one year and really trusted my dentist. There seems to be some evidence that this was not the best decision on my part: After recent examination by three highly experienced dentists belonging to a family friend's practice, I was told that I had been overtreated for periodontal disease (I was being treated at Appell Dental), have been spending unnecessary money for unusually frequent cleanings based upon the current (not very unhealthy) condition of my gums, and that recommendations made by Appell Dental group for a minor crack in the enamel of one of my teeth are both grossly unnecessary for me and expensive. This was highly concerning to me, the veneers I was told that I absolutely needed would cost over $2500 in total. I had expressed extreme financial distress to my treating dentist at this practice because I am legally disabled and uninsured multiple times, however, these unnecessary treatments costing thousands of dollars were still advised and even encouraged in such a way which insinuated that if I did not have them done, that my dental health and cosmetic appearance would be at risk. I am not comfortable seeking care with this dental group and they seem to be highly unethical. The three dentists who collaboratively looked at my mouth/teeth just one month following my last visit all agreed that Appell Dental Group was blatantly recommending overtreatment and unnecessary care. If you do attend this office, you might notice that your "file" (chart) is brought into the dental office for your appointment. If you use Care Credit (a credit line for those paying cash who do not have dental insurance), pay close attention to the fact that they write your amount of available credit right on the outside of the file so the treating dentist can glance at it to know how much money you have available to pay for their services when he goes to recommend what treatment you need. The BEST dental group around. I drive 40 minutes to see Dr. Aaron and the Appell team because no one does as outstanding of a job as them. Everyone is incredibly friendly and treats you like family and not a patient. They do an amazing job every time and do it in a quick efficient manner. I HIGHLY recommend anyone and everyone to give them a visit, especially if you have children afraid of the dentist because they know how to keep them calm and collected. My husband and I started going to Appell Dental when we moved from the city a little over a year and half ago. Although, we see different dentists we have both experienced excellent service. My husband has only required regular cleanings but I have had some work done, which all went very smoothly. Appointments run on time, the dentists are thorough about answering all questions and are very professional. The ladies at the front are friendly and Kathy in the business office is great at answering all billing questions. We recently took our son, who just turned three, in for his first dental visit and Dr. Arron was awesome with him. Our little dude is pretty spicy and strong-willed and he did absolutely great. I have been seeing the Appell's for over 30 years. I started seeing them when they were on Lincoln Ave. in Chicago (they're still there), before they opened their Arlington Heights office. I am currently seeing Dr. Aaron and he is just great. This place seemed very nice, the doctors are trying to be overly nice until the following happened. I don't want anyone to end up in my shoes that is why I am writing this review. In January of 2017 I went in for a routine root canal. Dr Lester referred me to his brother Dr. Joel for the procedure. After the first time he worked on my tooth, the first X- ray showed tooth material outside the roots. In other words tooth material leaked out through the roots of my tooth in my maxilla bone the first time he worked on it. When i saw the x-ray i asked what that was : both Dr Lester and Dr. Joel said:" that is calcium hydroxide, it will absorb by itself". I believed them. My tooth wasn't quiet right. After a few days I went back and Dr. Joel found a "hidden canal" he said ( never heard of anything like that before, in other words he didn't pay attention the first time he worked on it and left one root untreated so i had an infection in one of the roots). He cleaned the root out and put me on a second dose of antibiotics. The area where my tooth was still didn't feel quite right after couple of weeks, by then i started to have my own doubts about this work so I went to my endodontist in Chicago and I asked her to redo my root canal ( an out of pocket expense). She saw the leaked material on the X-ray as well and she referred me to a place for a 3D scan. After months of being in discomfort the 3D scan showed an infection in my maxilla bone where the leaked material was. I went back to Dr. Joel with the 3 D scan to ask some questions about the infection going on. He did not viewed the scan and to my direct question wether calcium hydroxide could really cause infection , he answered with another question ( a tactic to divert from the topic). At this point i talked to the office manager and told her I won't be doing any crown on the tooth and asked for a refund. As to Dr. Joel i left the office very disappointed knowing that he wasn't honest with me. At home i spent 10 minutes online searching and found several endodontist studies on calcium hydroxide leaks that cause serious infections. I emailed the studies to both Dr. Joel and Lester. The answer was they did not know why i still had an infection. Only after the email with the studies was the office willing to refund me the deposit taken for the crown.They never took any ownership to what they did to me to this day, I still don't know if this was negligence or medical error on Dr. Joel's end. Today, i lost the tooth ( a tooth that did not need extraction if it wasn't for the leaked material) and I am scheduled to go for maxilla surgery for the lodged material that is causing the infection in my bone. This is very unfortunate that it happened to me. I will never have my tooth back or be reimbursed emotionally on all i have went through so far. This office is a family practice and they are strictly business oriented covering each others backs. It took time for me to forgive Dr. Joel. I needed an emergency tooth filling replaced. I called the Appell Dental Group, and 1. they took my "crappy" insurance, and 2. were able to get me in THAT DAY. I am not good with dentists - yeah, I'm a "gagger", but Dr. Stuart Appell and Dana were wonderful with me. They were both very caring and careful as to not make me feel bad. I have been one of those types, that haven't seen a dentist in years because I don't like going to the doctor/dentist. But I have made the commitment to be much better about my health overall which leads me to here. I initially went to this place because the majority of the reviews are stellar. The ladies at the front desk are wonderful! They are super friendly and seem to really enjoy working there. The rest of the staff and doctors and very personable and make you feel right at home. My dentist is Dr. Aaron - the son and nephew of the owners. He is wonderful. He puts me at ease and really makes sure that I understand and feel comfortable with everything that is going to happen in that visit. I ended up getting Invisalign and some veneers to make some improvements to my smile. He wasn't happy until I was happy and wanted the outcome to be as perfect as possible. I couldn't be happier. Years after leaving this place my wife is still dealing with the mess they made of her mouth. I finally got her to leave and go to a modern dentist that stays current with their practive. Besides drilling into the wrong tooth for a cavity and doing a gum graff to far off the tooth that it needed to be redone, she is now dealing with an abscess/infection in her tooth due them drilling out a cavity on the wrong angle. She is going to possibly lose a tooth. Anyone that says they have been going here for years is doing them selves and injustice. You need to get out and see what a modern dental facility is like, you will see these guys are outdated and do not stay current. read more

I moved to Appell Dental Group from my old current dentist in Deerfield, looking desperately for a knowledgeable and experienced dentist who could do all the difficult procedures in the dental practice. My older dentist was very limited, they only did minor dental works, when they saw a problem such as removal of my tooth and posterior implant they sent me to 2 different dentists and one of them very rude, very bad recommendation, I felt cheated by my old dentist, they left me with a big dental problem out there, without knowing what or where to go, my dentist was away on holidays... ( I will do a review of this dental in another Yelp) So after researching and talking with friends I came up with this wonderful and trustful practice, Appell Group, which is owned by three very professional and knowledgeable dentists, Stuart, Leicester and . I felt so relieved that finally I was going to solve my deltas problem in good hands, one brother was in charge of extracting the bad tooth and then the other would Take care of the dental work bridge, implant, Eric, of course you have to empty your pocket but with a good insurance I onl had to pay half of the procedure. it made me see the light, they are straightforward, knowledgeable, honest and patient with all the explanations of the dental proceedings. read more

I've been going to Appell Dental my whole life. Therefore, I have absolutely no idea why anyone hates going to the dentist. Actually, scratch that. Once when I was 12 my mom took me to another dentist because our insurance changed...and I still have nightmares to this day about that horrific experience. But with Drs. Appell, I actually LIKE going to the dentist. It's a family business, so it's comfortable and relaxed and friendly. They all know me, I know them, they ask me about my life, my family, and so on. They truly care about their patients in a way that's pretty uncommon these days. Also, they're progressive and consistently keeping up with new technology. So, not only do they care about you on a personal level, but they actually care enough about your dental well-being to be on top of the dental game, so to speak. Now, these are fairly broad statements, so I'll give you a specific story to explain further, just in case you're not already convinced by my gushy mush: Not too long ago, I went in because I had a toothache. They took some x-rays, did a few other tests, and consulted each other. They decided the best course of action was to remove my wisdom tooth. Now, I'm an analytical, systematic, please-explain-everything-to-me-first kind of person. So, after they explained absolutely everything possible to know about the situation and the process, I was on board with it. OK, not at all relaxed about it, but I agreed - "let's get this tooth out!" I was actually quite stressed, because this was not planned at all...and all I could think of was the tales of excruciating wisdom tooth extraction...and I was actually kind of nervous. But they gave me some numbing agents, talked to me about life and other topics, and then they swiftly and expertly removed my tooth. And then I went to work. And I felt fine. I didn't take crazy pain meds, or spend hours icing my face or crying. I just had a great dentist do great work and give me great post-extraction advice (which I followed!). And I would say the same about every experience I've ever had there. So, in short, if you're looking for a better dental experience, go to Appell Dental! read more

The doctor's we went to where very good at what they did. This review is not a question of skill. The main problem was that they preformed a root canal on my husband without his permission. This left us scrambling for enough money, as well as the fact they tried to do a root canal in a short session where there wasn't enough time, leaving him with a big gaping hole in his head for a week before he could get into the office again. Unethical practices and they lied to our faces about billing 3 times. We still haven't been able to get a crown yet after 6 months. We would not go there again unless all other options were exhausted. read more

I was looking for a nearby, in-network dentist to switch to, as my last general dentist's office had some of the rudest, least organized staff I've ever encountered. Calling to make my first appointment at Appell Dental Group, I was greeted over the phone by the warmest, friendliest front office staff I've entered from a health care provider. The reception was just as bright in office on my first appointment. The Appell brothers are consummate professionals with a warm and relaxing bedside manner in addition to their vast knowledge and highly-polished skills. I ended up needing periodontal surgery after they noticed signs of recession and underlying tissue loss. Dr. Stuart was attended to my general dentistry needs while his brother Dr. Lester handled my oral surgery. Both were very attentive in making sure I am comfortable, at ease, and as knowledgeable as I'd like to be about what is happening, why they are doing it, and what to do afterward. Dr. Lester even texted me proactively at home after hours to see how I was doing and make sure I was OK. This practice is truly run by a group that are highly skilled and knowledge about their discipline and care about the patients that walk through the door.
