I love my dentist. I've been with Dr Gary and this practice for over five years. I've learned…read morealot about six years and have had nothing but good experiences. One of the first things that Dr Gary has told me before was that you should never go to a dentist that personally does the teeth cleanings themself. The hygienist should be the one taking care of that because it's specialized. This office has a great staff who are always kind and welcoming, they know my family by name and always ask about how we're doing. They take the time to get to know you, not just take care of your teeth. I like the personalized experience. They recently updated their imaging equipment to digital decreasing the radiation exposure by half of the standard machines (I guess they listen because when I first started with them years ago - I told them I really didn't want to get zapped by radiation so often - so if they could make do with the existing x-rays from my dental record transfer). The digital scan revealed some wear and decay on a tooth that my previous dentist filled - but never showed up on lower resolution scans before. We cleared that up on the next visit a week later - quick and fast and without pain. My experience has always been good with this practice - they are professionals, personable and welcoming. Going to Hawthorn Dental has been one of the best experiences I have ever had with a dental office. I went in for the first time about a month ago for an exam, X-rays and a cleaning. The front office person came from behind the counter, and sat down next to me to review how to fill out the paperwork. Nice touch. The wait was almost nonexistent. The dental assistant, Mimi was friendly and made sure I was comfortable. She even offered me a paraffin wax for my hands while I waited. I kindly accepted . What dentist office does that?? I'll tell you, none! Anyway, Judee my dentist finally came in to do the exam. She explained what she would be doing before she ever put a tool in my mouth. I felt like I understood what was happening during the entire exam. Plus I was relaxed with the little paraffin gloves on. When Judee was done she and Dr. Cheryl Mora reviewed my charts and X-rays and together they came up with a plan for me. Within the last month I have gone in for a 2 part deep cleaning and to have a cavity filled. Each visit has been very pleasant and believe it or not...no pain. Oh yeah...they also sent me a birthday card/video that was really cute. The entire staff took part in it ending with Dr. Mora's face falling in a cake lol cute. This is literally the only dentist I trust for cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Sokol and his staff were so accommodating and warm. They got me in, took my molds to start my Invisalign and got the process started seamlessly. Having Invisalign was a big decision for me and when I ultimately decided on it, I immediately thought of Dr. Sokol. He's an incredible cosmetic dentist and I trust exclusively in him to make my smile perfect. I'll update again after my treatment is finished, but so far I'm so impressed.

I saw Dmitri Sokol for a consultation. During that visit, he took photographs with his camera and…read moreshowed me images he claimed were of my teeth. The images showed black lines on top of the teeth, a food pocket along the gumline, and a leaking silver filling on one tooth. I was immediately alarmed because I spend a significant amount of time and energy on my dental hygiene. These images did not match what I expected to see given how carefully I care for my teeth. Based on these images, he told me that the leaking silver filling indicated a cavity underneath and that I could lose my tooth if I did not have it replaced. I agreed to have the silver filling on my tooth replaced. Even though he had an x-ray, once he began drilling, he told me he had discovered a "crack" in the tooth. He then proceeded to perform a partial crown (onlay) instead of replacing the filling--which is what I agreed to. I walked in expecting a simple filling replacement. I walked out with a $2,138 partial crown that I never consented to. The black lines and food pocket he had shown me during the first visit were never mentioned again. Instead, he recommended that I get two crowns on two other teeth. I requested copies of the specific images he showed me during that first visit--the leaking silver filling, the black lines on top of the teeth, and the food pocket along the gumline. His office sent me other photos, but not those. When I asked again, they stopped responding. Given that they refused to provide these images, I have no way of knowing if the silver filling was actually leaking. I believe it was not. If it had been, they would have sent me the picture. I then saw another dentist for a second opinion. That dentist confirmed there are no black lines on my teeth. There is no food pocket. Based on the x-ray, there was no evidence indicating that the silver filling had leaked. Regarding the alleged crack discovered during drilling, the second dentist told me this was highly unlikely given that Dmitri Sokol had an x-ray of the tooth before starting the procedure. A crack large enough to require changing the procedure from a simple filling replacement to a partial crown should have been detectable with proper diagnostic tools. The two crowns he recommended were also not needed. The images Dmitri Sokol showed me were not of my teeth. They were used to create fear and urgency to justify work that was not needed. I am sharing this to warn others: get a second opinion before agreeing to any procedure recommended by this office.

I ignored the dentist for about seven years or so, I fractured a tooth and feared the worst but knew that I needed to go back and went to an office a friend was going to. The dentist who accepted me was OK, but I wasn't overly impressed. It was assessed that I needed a LOT of work done. Couple cavities and at least 2-3 Root Canals. I was pretty devastated but, with my neglect, it was understandable. During my second appointment, to fill a cavity, it was Dr. Cheskis that walked in because the other dentist was out. With her positive attitude, cheery greeting, and bright smile it immediately put me right at ease. She was so incredibly gentle and so concerned about my comfort that I was SO impressed. We also discussed all the work I needed and she was so empathetic and really impressed upon me that she genuinely cared. I immediately asked the front office to ensure she was to handle my care from then on out. It's been six years now that I've been seeing her and she never ceases to impress me. Per my X-rays it looked as if I might need at least 3 Root Canals. Two were done, and while they were lengthy and not the most pleasant, they were painless and I was made as comfortable as possible. Dr. Cheskis even called me later to ask how I was doing, I could NOT believe that. When we got to my last Root Canal Dr. Cheskis, who recently opened up her own practice at that time, opened up the tooth and found that the decay hadn't reach the nerve and a deep filling would suffice. She blocked off three hours of her time, brought in and paid for a dental assistance for that time, and instead of the thousand dollar procedure, plus a $2K crown, I was only charged a fraction of that and was out of there within the hour. I was so impressed with her honesty and integrity. I absolutely could not imagine going to, or having to find, another dentist. My mouth looks completely different, and other dental professionals were impressed and have commented on her work as well to me. She is incredibly passionate about her profession and her patients and I absolutely try to recommend anyone I can to her.
