While I have given Dr Hoffenberg great reviews it appears the practice has been sold and the cost of service has been Increased and the plan I was on is no Longer accepted. While I respect Dr Hoffenberg it time to find a more affordable Dentist. The quality of the work was good however it appears from one cleaning to another The need dentist found the need for four Root canals and other major work. This should have been found on my wife's last Visit. As for the management the new Owners Would not return a phone call and all The person I spoke to said was and I quote We are a big company. Hoffenberg is a fraud of a 'dentist' if he is even still in practice (I hope not)...he wants your money and makes up issues you don't have, claims he has the skills to fix the issues that he also doesn't have and to cover it up, claims he doesn't have your records anymore for proof (which is illegal due to HIPPA). Go to any other dentist and always follow your instincts when something doesn't feel right. He claims he can do root canals (go to a endodontist for this)! As when I finally went to endodontist after weeks of pain, he discovered that Dr. Hoffenberg left a PIECE OF TOOL IN MY ROOT! I had to have my root canals redone and found out that I never had cavities to begin with which caused this whole thing. He ruined my teeth for life and took advantage of me when I was new to the area starting my first real career job. read more

Not having been to many dentists it's hard to know what to expect having been raised in the British dental system which says a lot in itself! Based on my limited knowledge, I think this is a pretty reasonable dentist. Always friendly but usually this is only a few minutes anyway. Most of the time is with a hygienist who does the clean. Also super friendly but I heard my usual left. I always dread the question...have you been flossing everyday? Do a lot of people? I have to sheepishly answer maybe every other day. Dr. James Chidester saw me today. The appointment began well enough and he was affable. Unfortunately, at the end of the appointment, he started talking to me with his mask pulled down off his mouth. I, of course, being the patient, could not wear my mask at this time. He ran his hand over his mouth and nose and patted me on the arm with that hand. I asked him why he had his mask off and he said so I could hear him, but I was able to hear him just fine with it on. I had to tell him to put it back on. In casual conversation about Thanksgiving he mentioned planning to have his big family over to fill the house because they "don't do COVID". Absolute WORST experience EVER, it's no wonder I was able to get in at the last minute. I am fairly new to the area and didn't want to make the hour drive to my previous dentist --checked out Yelp and hoped for the best. Dr. Amin is clueless. Had I known that she only practiced dentistry a couple days per week I would not have entrusted her to repair two failed fillings and deliver a crown for a cracked tooth. She almost filled the wrong tooth. She's HORRIBLE at giving numbing shots...does not shake your cheek or use a vibrating shot --instead uses a giant syringe, gives multiple shots effectively numbing every area of my face (for hours to follow) with the exception of the ONE AREA NEEDING to be numb. The first temporary crown was ground down too far by Dr. Amin and a new temporary had to be fabricated the same day. The temporary crown fell out (days after it was installed). Eventually I returned to have the permanent crown delivered and it didn't fit, which was really no surprised given that the temporary didn't fit. She wanted to grind down my perfectly good lower tooth to accommodate the poor fit of the crown. I was told I'd need shots to numb. I was so traumatized by my last experience that I had to leave the office; I thought I could mentally prepare myself for it and return. I couldn't. I called my previous dentist in tears and he told me to come in immediately. He fit me for the crown, installed a temporary crown (that stayed in, by the way) and installed the permanent crown (without grinding down my other tooth) at NO COST for his services (save the cost of the crown itself). Oh, and one of the composites failed, so that had to be redone. The icing on the cake is that I paid $1,077.55 for Dr. Amin's services. $620 for the composites and the remainder for the crown (a total of $1,400 and $325 for the crown delivery/buildup and any needed pins). My insurance company paid $364.80 and there was an insurance adjustment of $226. Let's pretend the composite didn't fail --there is a total paid of $984.80 for services that total $620. The "estimate" I agreed to is for services PERFORMED and the amount is DUE AT THE TIME OF SERVICE. However, they are sending me statements (with handwritten notes referencing the attached "estimate") for, GET THIS, $935.50! Lastly, while the work was performed by Dr. Amin at 264 Hawthorn Village Commons in Vernon Hills, the statements are coming from the office in Park City. When I go to their website they don't even list Dr. Amin as being on their staff. Perhaps they let her go...in which case I'd ask: why on earth are you demanding payment for work that wasn't performed, for a "doctor" that isn't even on your staff? Or maybe the VH office is a satellite office and the main office doesn't have the foggiest idea what is going on in VH... I've given them until 12/5/18 to refund my over payment of $457.50. We'll see how that shakes out... UPDATE 12/13/18: Continue to receive statements showing a balance owed of $935.50. No refund check for the over payment of $457.50. The dentist who ended up performing the work Northwestern Dental Group claims to have performed wrote a letter stating: they could not have performed the work on said tooth because HE DID. Very upset by all of this, especially right before the holidays. read more

This practice was suggested to me by a friend due to an immediate dental emergency. I was so appreciative that Dr Hoffenberg was willing to stay late to accommodate my situation, especially since I was not an established patient. Since then I have continued to have extensive dental work done and have received professional care and treatment from all three dentist (although I primarily see Dr Amin). The staff is always courteous and friendly doing everything possible to work with my crazy schedule making an appointment. I went here for a few years as a child, probably ages 9-12ish?? so over 25 years ago. I now have an irrational fear and PTSD when I go to a dentist but I really didn't know why. Literally, I have to go to my primary physician to prescribe me a xanax just to i can relax a bit when I go to the dentist. Well after years of wondering why I am this way, I remembered that at this dentists office, I would go to a man and he would just tear into my gums. It was so awful, I would squirm in pain and he would get so annoyed with me and I feel like he just did it harder because I was "difficult". He had a very bad attitude with me and could tell he hated my visits just by his face. My mother used to take me, she was a very quite Mexican woman that spoke no English and I was difficult in that I was extremely quite and shy. I hate to use the race card but I don't know if this had anything to do with the way I was treated. I hope that wasn't it. Either way, is sounds silly but this experience has left me scarred and I really hope that he wasn't like that with other children. I don't hope for people to stop going, I hope he has changed and reads this and sees how he impacts peoples lives more than he thinks. Please be gentle and kind. read more

I recently moved to the northern suburbs from the southern suburbs and had not found a new dentist when I started experiencing jaw pain from clenching. The pain forced me to make a quick appointment without being able to do much research on a new dentist in the area. I had been going to the same dentist all my life so I really didn't know what to expect from a new place. I was kind of disappointed walking into Dr.Amin's office because it is kind of out dated. They do not seem as up to date on the latest equipment and technology as they could be which is reflected in the office space. Sitting there deciding whether or not to spend $140 on a mouth guard left me wondering what kind of job they would do given their old school mentality. However, I was in a bit of a pinch and decided to give it a shot. They had my mouth guard ready in exactly one week which was within the time crunch I needed before leaving for vacation. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it fit and how slim and comfortable it is. Time will tell how long it will last and hold up. Picking up my mouth guard was a bit of an annoyance. I asked if I could come in on a Thursday since I was working from home and wouldn't need to take off early. They said Dr.Amin is only in Wednesday/Friday and she would need to be there to check the fit and make sure everything turned out ok. I made my appointment for a 4:30 Wednesday spot, the latest they have, and came in to pick it up. The nurse fitted me and adjusted the guard and Dr.Amin never came in to see me. Guess she really needed to be there for my appointment...very accommodating in that sense. While I might not make them my regular dentist they were fast, professional, and got the job done. read more
