Since the end of the pandemic, I have been going to Northbrook Dental Care for hygiene appointments. My daughter and husband have been going there for many years before I did. Dr. Jay Rodgers is the owner, and he has a team of nice and skillful hygienists and technicians. I have been happy with my hygienist Hallie, who's very kind, skillful, and accommodating. She has excellent memories of what I like and don't like, making each appointment pleasant and successful. I have been waiting for some dental work to be done by Dr. Rodgers before I write a review. Now is the time! I used to think that Dr. Rodgers was a person of no-nonsense. Every time he would quickly check my teeth, recommended what needs to be done, and then hurried into another patient's room. However, I found out from the recent experience that he is actually very kind and compassionate, and is also very respectful of my choices. The dental work was pretty "complicated", which involved removal of an old crown that was done by another dental practice years ago, but it was not done right back then, and he detected decay developed inside. He would then install two new crowns, one to the adjacent tooth that was prepared by another practice a long time ago. There was an old filling to be replaced as well. I called Dr. Rodgers' office with questions, one of his receptionists, Dianka, is always very nice and helpful, she had Dr. Rodgers call me back after his appointments. He called me back and spent 15 minutes patiently answering all my questions and explaining everything that needed to be done. I was impressed. The dental work involved 3 appointments, with the second appointment being the main one and was the longest, like 2 to 3 hours long, with breaks. Dr. Rodger's assistant, Erika, was very kind and professional too. Dr, Rodger was(is) very skillful, professional, and kind, and actually checked on me several times to make sure that I was doing fine and comfortable. His chair-side manners were just excellent. Although dental work is no fun to be sure, I didn't feel any pain or discomfort. I could even eat an hour later! The most important thing is, the crowns look so good and natural that even my husband and daughter could not tell which ones were crowns. They both guessed the canine. No, that was wrong. I am so happy with the results! I will not hesitate to see Dr. Rodgers and his team for future dental work. Next time, I will not be losing any sleep before the appointments, as I know that I am in good hands! read more

I have been going to Northbrook Dental Care for hygiene appointments for many years now. Fortunately, that's the only service that I needed there. The place is clean and comfortable. I always felt at ease at this practice. Dr. Rodgers is the only dentist there and he is the owner. He has a great team of hygienists, who are all very friendly and professional. My hygienist is always very prompt, thorough, and makes sure that I leave the clinic with a shiny smile. Whenever Dr. Rodgers checked on my teeth, he has been very professional and informative. I felt fortunate every time he (and my previous dentists) marveled at me still having all 32 teeth without any cavities. About a year ago, I accidentally bit very hard on a bone and one of my lower front teeth became loose, which I could wiggle it with my fingers. I thought the tooth would come off and I went to see Dr. Rodgers on an emergency basis. Surprisingly, he told me not to worry about it after checking on the tooth. He is right - a year later, my tooth still sits tightly in its socket and is now back to normal. I like the overall experience at Northbrook Dental Care, and highly recommend it. read more

The most disappointing dental experience I have ever experienced. Had a consult and partial cleaning in January. At that consult we (hygienist and Dentist) discussed a care plan with a two process cleaning over two visits with a 3 month cleaning plan to get back on track. Due to health issues I had not been in 4 year. We discussed the health issues and how to navigate them with treatment plan and why I could tolerate. Arrived for the second part of the follow up cleaning. A new hygienist was assigned. She said I needed treatments that we previously discussed were NOT to happen. I explained that was NOT the care plan we discussed at my last appointment. She insisted this was the plan. I told her I would have never made the follow up appointment if that was the case due to my health issues. Asked to consult with the Dentist, she said he was busy and insisted that was the needed treatments. Needless to say I left as that was not the care plan discussed. Making matters worse the dentist never called to follow up and see what happed. This was the most unprofessional dental experience I've ever had. read more

Here people are so sweet and funny. I had the pleasure of getting my teeth cleaned by Dr. Rodgers on my last visit and he was fantastic. I was even entertaining my on again off again crying baby on my lap and he wasn't even phased. Best of all when we left Sharon donated the cutest little Australian bear to my 7mo old. Even though he's all gums he was smiling bright that day and so was I. My two year old even sleeps with him. He's well and truly a part of the family now. Thanks guys! read more

Saw some prior negative review about the x-ray policy and think it was a result of patient confusion. When I went in for the $69 special they took simple x-rays (included with the special) but then .... the doctor had the girl take more detailed ones to cover all bases since I seem to have some onset of periodontal gum disease and guess what the extra x-rays were NO CHARGE. Why did he want them? And why no charge? 1) Because, he knew I didn't have insurance and was being cool on my first visit and 2) wanted the Picts for his OWN peace of mind to make sure I had no bone loss and make sure he didn't miss anything. Look folks, the x-rays are not just for making the doctor lose his ability to reproduce (vasectomies are a lot better for that than repeated x-ray exposure) A doctor takes the x-rays to cover his ass for malpractice (in case he misses something) and also guess what -- to cover your ass in case he missed a small cavity BEFORE it gets bigger. Wow what a concept a doctor who acts like a doctor. Anyways I will be back soon for my next scheduled torture by way of a deep scaling of my gums (UGGG) and I will have to shell out for that, but he told me the price up front and it was not a shock anyways. If he wanted to up-sell me he could have offered laughing gas on my next visit or cherry flavored lip gloss or whatever. I promised an update to rate my personal cleaning experience... I'm so grateful to Yelp and Marci K for sending me to Northbrook Dental Care. I've been feeling guilty for the fact I was overdue for a cleaning. After a long search to find a dentist that made me feel comfortable, I landed in the delicate gentle cleaning hands of Cecelia today, followed by a final check and thumbs up by Dr. Rodgers...no guilt and no cavities! Wahoo! In a clean and cozy warm exam area, I spent my appointment looking up into the ceiling with a cool printed backlit panel of swimming fish. No need for live fish, because this kept me relaxed the entire time. They also have great music playing. For those with Delta Dental insurance, they take it. The nice thing is for cleaning services Sharon bills directly to the insurance company without making you pay up front first. A lot of places make you pay and then you have to wait for a reimbursement. Not here. They really make going to the dentist easy. If you're long overdue or seeking a new dentist, look no further. They have state-of-the-art equipment and a friendly experienced team. In my prior review you'll see they also work with kids. We have now made this our family dental practice. My daughter had an dental accident at the pool (knocked out part of her two front teeth) on 7/2 the Friday before a long holiday weekend. My husband and I called around so many places and nobody would see us until Tuesday! The problem was my daughter was to go to sleep away camp on Sunday. We got to Dr. Jay Rodgers from a friend of a friend. We explained our situation and sent him picture of her teeth. He agreed to meet us the next day at 9 am when the whole staff was off. I called today to make an appointment for a secondary consult, to determine if the dental treatment plan my previous dentist proposed is necessary. After reading mostly positive reviews about this place, I gave them a call. And that's as far as I got. The receptionist (German accent) answering the phone was VERY RUDE, SHORT, and UNPLEASANT. People take note -- customer service begins with the front desk... and if it's negative, it casts a negative light on the whole business. I went to another place for cleaning and they said I need 4 cavities and a root canal maybe. What a ripoff. They wanted 1900 for a root canal and close to 1000 for 4 cavaties. I came here for a second opinion and DR. Jay Rodgers was very nice. No charge just to look at my mouth and only 30 dollars for ex-rays. Plus he said I only need 2 cavaties filled and not 4. And even with root canal (possibly needed) still cheaper than the other guys. Plus its closer to home and regular teeth cleaning is only 90 dollars. Not bad. My family is covered by the State of Illinois for dental care. The State is behind on their reimbursements and every time I had a cleaning,the office manager,Sharon had a nasty comment about the state, as if I was the problem.The practice has a right to ask for payment and the patient file for reimbursement, but they didn't choose that route and complained to me every 6 months. Additionally, I wanted some minor repair on a tooth that wasn't cosmetic. I called Sharon and asked if it was covered by the insurance. Sharon was going to check and get back to me. I happened to be next door and I stopped in and asked if she had the results. Sharon responded that that the work was covered with Dr. Rogers right next to her. When I was checking out,Sharon informed me that I had a $250 bill. I was expecting a co-pay, but she failed to tell me about the deductible.Had I known I wouldn't have had the work done.I spoke with Sharon later that day and received a snotty response. Listen, people. I was one of those kids growing up who absolutely dreaded seeing a dentist. If I knew I had a dentist appointment coming up, I was a wreck. I hated everything associated with dentists- the aroma of the dental office, the terrible sounds of drills buzzing away, and even the music that was played in the waiting room. Invariably, I ended up with cavities on nearly every visit, and having those cavities filled in was like hell on earth. I remember the pain and discomfort of sitting there with my mouth open for what seemed like an eternity. I'll never forget the dentist hitting the nerves in my molars, and not being able to do much about it in fear that if I moved or flinched, the drill would dig even deeper into the soft parts of my mouth or gums. My hands would be gripping my legs and I'd sweat profusely. I guess these guys just didn't know how to properly administer Novocaine. Fast forward a number of years, and I got a job that provided me with dental insurance and list of dentists. One of these dentists had actually been my fiance's dentist for many years and she swore by him. His name is Dr. Tishler, and he is located in Northbrook. Northbrook?!?! I thought it was crazy that anyone would drive that far to see a dentist, but I would soon find out why. I have been seeing Dr. T for three years now, and I can honestly say that I look forward to each visit! His service is THE BEST, by far. NEVER have I felt any pain or discomfort. He is a perfectionist and is not satisfied until you are. He is extremely personable and funny, and is a great guy to chat with. He is very honest and upfront, and will not sugarcoat anything (no pun intended). If you need a root canal, he'll straight up tell you that you need root canal. However, he'll perform the procedure in such a way that once you think he's just getting started, he's actually done! You'll sit up with that, "That's IT?!?" feeling every time. Trust me, guys, if you need to see a dentist (admit it, some of you really do), try him. Make an appointment with his secretary, she is very nice too. His prices are affordable, it's even better if you have insurance. I live in Chicago and make the hour drive up there a few times a year and would never go back to anyone else. My very first time to do this 1 star review but I have to do my self a favor after a horrible experience with this dental team. I saw Dr. Rodgers last October 2014 for a general dentistry check up. On the very first day after my visit, their Office Manager or front desk person Sharon was asking me to make a great review about the services I got after the first visit. Of course, because of their happy smiles and warm accommodation, I did make my very first positive review online, giving them 5 stars (which I really regret). These are the reasons why: 1. Having issues with my teeth, I was asked to come back for a filling on one molar and was given a choice if I want to save another molar (tooth #19) or extract it. I wanted to do the former one and Dr. Rodgers recommended to have a crown on that tooth. I fully trusted this team that I did't even ask for a treatment proposal cost before the procedure was done. First and foremost, this should be the responsible of their Office Manager Sharon to check with the patient's insurance if each procedure will be covered or not before doing a treatment. The doctor just gave me a cost estimation only. My fault was not demanding from their office how much the treatment cost plan for the crown. I just crossed my fingers and gave them the go signal. In all the dental office I have visited before (including my kids' pediatric dentist), this process of providing the patient the treatment cost plan and how much the dental insurance will cover the procedure is always a mandatory procedure. This will make the patient aware about her coverage and how much will be the out of the pocket cost before the patient decide. I guess, they don't care about this, they are just after the money and leave their patients guessing how much will they pay and how much their insurance will cover them. I should have done my part too in contacting my insurance, but, isn't it this is the part of their "good service"? Making their patient knowledgable about their specific insurance coverage and out of the pocket costs? They failed on this part. 2. I felt I was being harassed over the phone by their Office Manager Sharon to give my credit card number and do the payment right there and then!!! They are aware that I will pay them through HSA check once I got back from out of the country vacation but this Sharon made me so uncomfortable with that phone conversation. And I was still recuperating from a +24hour flight and jet lag and this is what I get from their office. As far as I know, if you are a good business manager or owner, you should take a big consideration on what is happening to your patient and be patient. THIS SHARON DOESN'T HAVE GOOD BUSINESS MANNERS AND MADE ME FEEL THAT I OWE THEM BIG TIME!!!!! Lady, the procedure was done October 2014, I received the bill December 2015 while I was in the Philippines, arrived January 2015....you didn't even provide me a 30-day, 60-days or 90-days for settling my bills in which all dental/medical offices are providing for their patients? You are really just after the money, huh? 3. Because of this awful experience with SHARON, I made a letter addressed to Dr. Jay Rodgers, together with my HSA check full payment on the 2nd week of January 2015. I informed him about what transpired on our phone conversation on the the first week of January right after I arrived from the Philippines and expressed my disappointment about that phone conversation. Come February and March 2015....I didn't hear anything from him! Just a follow up or just to straighten out the issues with his staff Sharon, or just a short email or phone call so I will feel acknowledged...NOTHING!!!! I don't know if he received the letter or maybe Sharon receives all their office correspondence, she didn't inform Dr. Rodgers about this or she kept the letter...who know?!? Is that good business etiquette? Is that good customer service??? 4. Last week of March 2015, my crown is only less than 6 months old, i felt a terrible pain on my gum, tooth # 19 and the surrounding teeth. Since I have high pain tolerance, I ignored it up to the 3rd day waking up with a very swollen left cheek and jaw ( I looked like I have Bel's Palsy) and intense pain on the affected tooth. I should have contacted Dr. Rodgers about this but, I swear, I am not going back to that dental office and deal with them especially Sharon! My friend recommended me to another dentist whom suggested to see an Endodontist to see tooth #19. My new dentist prescribed me a high acting antibiotics for 2 weeks!!!! 2 weeks because of the extensive infection I got under that crown!!! And she was afraid to say that even my facial nerves on the left were affected due to the extent of this infection! In the first place, if Dr. Rodgers knew already that this tooth cannot be saved by a crown because the tooth had already undergone enough procedures before, then he should have recommended an extraction right there and then...TOTAL RIP OFF!!!!! read more

I wanted to take a moment to write about Dr. Jay Rodgers of Northbrook Dental Care and his excellent staff throughout my exceptional experience with them. I was visiting from out of state and lost a crown, truly a terrible, horrible, bad day experience. I heard of Dr. Rodgers from my sister who lives in Evanston. Not only did Dr. Rodgers fit me in to their schedule... at the end of their long day but he and his staff stayed late on my behalf. It was evident they were being very considerate and kind about the difficulty of my situation. I had gone to another dentist in Evanston who did a temporary repair that lasted less than 48 hours. Dr. Rodgers took the time to rebuild the base to reattach the crown and it remains perfect six months later even though it is technically a temporary solution since an implant is necessary at this point. His work is so perfect that I have not yet had to face dealing with the implant. In addition, they were all extremely kind and sensitive to me both in their manner and their awareness of the importance of achieving a solution since I still had business to conclude during my time in Illinois. His front desk staff also went out of their way to seek all compensation possible through my insurance, well above and beyond many of my past experiences. Even more impressively, I was charged very reasonably given the last minute scheduling ,overtime and complexity of the job, which could have justified charging more. It was evident of the character of this office that they did not in any way take advantage of the difficulty of my situation, on the contrary they did nothing but be of great help. I was and I am grateful for all they did. I have been to numerous dentists and Dr. Rodgers and my current Arizona dentist, Dr. Scott of Mesa, stand out among them all! If I lived in Illinois I would travel quite a ways to make Dr. Rodgers my "go to" dentist! read more

Although Sharon, Dr Rodgers front end person, is polite and very nice and friendly, Dr. Rodgers himself can be rude and abrupt. He clearly never took "bedside manners" in Dental school. I understand he wants to make money, but his demands that you get costly X-rays every time you get your teeth cleaned is a ridiculous demand. I got an A+ from the kind hygentist, but he storms out of the office and made me cry after I said I did not want X-rays. Beware of going to this dentist . He has a hair trigger temper. Dr.Rodgers is an Angel without wings. He is gentle and kind. After a HORRIBLE experience with another dentist, my 9 year old son was terrified to go to the dentist. Dr. Rodgers has a television and Netflix and my son watched a movie while getting cavities filled. No tears, no fear. My son left after a teeth cleaning and 2 fillings with a smile on his face. Dr. Rodgers also worked on me at a diffetent time, to fix a chipped tooth. He was efficient, quick, and fabulous. The tooth was fixed by a prior dentist and the filling came out. I'm not usually excited about seeing the dentist, but this was an excellent experience. The young lady on the phone has the best Accent I have heard in a long time. Everyone was so very friendly and they were so pleasant as well. The dentist showed me his state of the art crown 3d making machine, so cool ! He can make a crown very quickly . Also very high tech, fist time I saw my chompers on a computer screen instead of a dark x ray film. Didn't try to up charge me . Also I was leaving out of town and they worked hard to squeeze me in. Dr. Rodgers, Sharon and all the staff have always been kind and helpful for the last 5 years since I started seeing him. This past weekend I experienced tooth pain for the first time. I took a chance and called the office at 7:45am and Dr. Rodgers answered the phone! I was able to get in right away and when he saw my root canal was more complicated he got on the phone and in 5 minutes I was on my way to the endodontist for a root canal. While it was not how I wanted to spend the day-anything to get rid of the pain would be welcome. He emailed my x-rays to Dr. Rosenbaum who was also amazing-and his staff. Two hours later-root canal done-I was able to take my puppy to her vet appointment! Dr. Rodgers and his staff are the best and their hours are great for working people!! read more

I recently was seen by Dr. Rodgers and his wonderful caring staff. Right from the beginning when is phoned to make an appointment Sharon his Office Manager was so thoughtful and helped me with making my appointment and suggestions with my dental insurance. When I came in to see Dr. Rodgers, I was welcomed with a smile from everyone. His assistant Kristy is so much fun and bubbly she makes your dental experience enjoyable. His hygienist Leila is the most gentle and caring person I have ever had my teeth cleaned by. I have a dentist-phobia, and am terribly squeamish when it comes to anything dental. (I think of Marathon Man). So, I am thrilled to have found this dentist. He and his staff are superb and thorough. I have never had such a thorough teeth cleaning and the assistant was gentle and made sure I had no pain, as my teeth are very sensitive. They really took their time and did not just rush me through or try to sell me unnecessary treatments like so many others seem to do nowadays. I trust my teeth to them completely.
