I rescheduled for 730am Nov 1st and it was freezing outside, but I had a very good experience overall. A couple tips I wanted to share that I haven't yet seen on the reviews. If you have an appointment, go inside right away and check in with the desk so you can get a number. I arrived at 7:15 and was told by one employee to simply have a seat and I'd be called at my appt time. My appt time came and went and over a dozen walkins were brought in during that time. At 7:35, I checked in at the desk and was told that I should've done that already as soon as I arrived. My paperwork was verified and I was given a ticket. I received a text with my ticket number as well. I was prepared to wait forever since I hadn't checked in immediately. Thankfully, my number was called almost immediately at 7:40. The clerk was very pleasant and friendly. I was out by 8 with my new drivers license, less than an hour after arrival. I can't stress this enough, but it really pays to be friendly and polite. I smiled at everyone and they were all courteous in return. If you don't speak English, please make sure you know what you need because the employees only speak English and had a tough time understanding those who did not. A translator will not be provided. My last warning: the employees were extremely communicative and gave updates every few minutes. They told us all that the kids were out of school today so many of them wanted to take their road test and the wait would be 3-5 hours. You must make an appointment if you don't want to wait forever. They also told us that if we got tired or cranky that we should just leave. Parents were also asked to wait in their cars and not inside with their teen in order to allow more chairs for other patrons. I moved from out of state and already had a RealID so I brought my SS card, drivers license, water bill, electric bill, and car insurance verification. These were all required and worked out for me. I took the vision test and there were 20 road signs on the test that I had to read out. The first 16 are normal signs but the last 4 are completely blank and you just have to recognize the shape, which is really confusing. Some are obvious like a stop sign, but I didn't recognize the shape of a "no passing zone" sign. It was the only one I missed so not a big deal but just a heads up. Study the signs while you're waiting. They have printouts at the front desk. I'll add more tips if I think of them. I was prepared to wait for hours even with an appointment and I was pleasantly surprised.

They tell you not to get there any earlier than 15 before your appointment- don't believe it because they will take everyone else as a walk in that got there before you. Once they take your documents they send you back OUTSIDE to wait while they take all the walk ins, which is actually inhumane in this heat. I hurt my spine and I am waiting for an indepth 6th spinal surgery. Needless to say, I am in excruciating pain. The pain was so intense when I walked into the NCDMV I began perspiring all over my face and body. I became very nauseous, weak, & I had chest palpitations. I stood there and an employee came to check on me. An Examiner walked me over to the chairs. She took the time to be so comforting and kind to me. This awesome kind Examiner brought a fresh bottle of water for me and some paper towels to dry my face off. The Examiner helped me get to the right desk and made sure I was ok. The other Examiner at the desk calmly talked me through doing what I needed to do for my Real ID. What a sweetheart also besides the initial Examiner! Between these two remarkable kind lady Examiners I got through the visit just fine! These two remarkable lady Exsminers were Examiner Wilson and Examiner Thorpe! Kudos to these two professional yet very kind ladies made my visit very comfortable. ​​This was such an uplifting visit. These two sweet helpful Angels were there at a time I needed it! Having two professional kind hearted Examiners such as these two on staff is a feather in your cap...NCDMV!!! Gratitude to both of these pros! This positive experience renewed my faith in society!

We came without an appointment to get an ID card for my mother. We were prepared with all the…read moredocuments and were given a number and asked to wait in the car for our turn. Text messages kept us informed about our place in line. The staff was smiling, kind, and courteous. My mother was offered a chair since the computer was running slow. We were near the end of the process when it turned out the computer system was down statewide. I asked if I could take my mother home since staff did not know when it would be fixed, and the woman handling her paperwork arranged for me to return before 4:30 to pick up the ID without needing an appointment or my mother. To my surprise, I received a phone call letting me know the paperwork was ready. I stopped by to pick it up and was handed the ID on the spot. Considering the "complications" with the computer system, this was still a pleasant experience. The team there is wonderful!

I did my research, had all the necessary documentation, was told I would need to come back on Monday due to insurance being purchased same day. The clerk assured me I wouldn't need to wait in line again as all was in order, just needed 24 hours for insurance to be I stated and then pay the processing fee. She indicated verbally I would not need an appointment or need to wait in line that she would look for me and instructed me to explain upon arrival that only payment was necessary. Upon arrival and explanation was issued a number and told to wait in my car again and when I had the nerve of being angry about being lied to was told not to come back. Abolish these state run rackets and replace these imbeciles with private drivers license businesses who compete for business. Overnight the lines and waiting will disappear and these incompetent personnel, paid from my tax dollars, will be forced into seeking private sector jobs instead of being paid for failing the tax paying citizens responsible for their salaries and pensions. Honestly... this mornings visit wasn't as bad as I expected. There was ample parking where you could park just about anywhere. There is an empty Kroger next door with lots of parking. Expect to wait inline outdoors prior to coming inside. The waiting room only sits about 25 people so you have to stand outside until the front desk clerk signals for you to come inside. I was surprised as I showed up with no appointment and was ticketed and seated within an hour and a half. Now the waiting game starts where we will see how long it takes for me to sit down with an officer to get my license renewed. Clean facility, great customer service and smooth location - BUT its still a DMV (rolls eyes)

I was in/out of my appointment in approximately 15 minutes. CECE was the employee who helped me through the process. CECE was amazing! She was professional, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly! I brought literally any important document I have regarding my life, money and car. I was prepared. Two people in line before me, lots of staff this day (9:30a Tuesday) and a bright atmosphere. Not quite the dreadful DMV energy experienced hours before elsewhere. Nice lady took my stuff, YOU NEED cash for the fee, it's like 5 bucks, everything else you can pay on a card. Left with plate within 15 minutes. Taxes suck, but I don't own a Ferrari so...could be worse.
