My license was expiring yesterday and I was very worried and did not have any appointment. Read some online reviews and decided to go to Garner even though it was quite far from my place. I reached there at around 6:30 AM (best thing I did) and there were only 4 other people before me. By 7:45, there was a long queue of about 30+ people. By 8 AM, the office opened and the officer announced that they would take the appointments first and maybe after 11, they would take the walk-ins. However, within 15 mins, they asked the people on the bench (all walk-ins) to get in and I was done in next 30 mins. By 9 AM, I walked out with my driving license renewed. Amazing place, amazing staff. Very efficient, courteous, humble, understanding and professionals. If you are nice and respectful, you would get the same response back from them too. Parking is easy and hassle free, and the line moves at a nice pace assuming you have all your paperwork. There is not much on the inside to look at, just the attendants, a bench, and ATM machine. Other than that it is just a big empty room. They do not do all the stuff like they do at the main office at this one, all they deal with is License Plate issues, so sometimes you still might have to head downtown.

I explained to her that it worked for the boat at fish and wildlife and it worked for both of my vehicles. She informed me that there were different rules in place and that she couldn't help me. NOTE: Make sure you bring your DL/ID, birth certificate, 2 proofs of residency, and marriage license for the Real ID. They all have to match as far as the spelling of your name on all documents. The gentleman comes out periodically to check documents and will let you know if something else is needed for the service you're requesting. Any kind of driving test they start cut offs after 3pm. Being a native New Yorker, going to the DMV brings back extremely horrible memories…read more HOWEVER, now being a resident of North Carolina...these past experiences have all been changed! I went here to get my license plates / tags and titles. After walking in, there are two lines (one for existing and one for new). Being new, I went into that lane. I knew exactly what I needed to bring with me as well, so i came prepared. I got there around 4pm and was out of the door by closing (5pm). (around 7 people in front of me. I provided my Proof of NC Insurance; the titles to my vehicles (You need to provide a new set of current mileage) as well as my NC Drivers license in order to proceed to the next step. After providing all of this, and signing some documents, the staff member took my title (stating that the state of NC will reissue a new title); provided me with new license plates (issued right there and then) and took the payment. Luckily, I was able to pay by credit card, as being a first time resident of the state, my total came out to be over $1000 to transfer my vehicles in, but the person behind the desk (forgot her name) was extremely pleasant, tolerant and kind to explain all the different charges to me. Overall, the experience was very pleasant, as the staff there were not the typical staff you see in a DMV. Proud, not grumpy and very well mannered. Very appreciate their service and assistance during this process.
