I highly recommend this place. I live just a few blocks away so when I needed my oil changed I figured I'd give them a shot. As the other reviewer said, they are very knowledgeable here and were fair and honest. The best part though was it felt like they went above and beyond in doing the actual work! Basically if you go to like Jiffy Lube etc they'll do a basic oil change for a cheap price, but at Apex for a reasonable (slightly higher but I'm telling you it's reasonable/worth it) they actually check all your fluids and tighten everything that needs tightened, my car feels 100 times better than before they worked on it. I'll be coming back to them next month for an inspection and pretty much anything I'll need done from now on. Good guys who really know what they're doing. And quick, too! Highly recommended if you're anywhere near the area. read more

Do Not Go There. They ran a pressure test and blew out my reservoir! They ruined my car costing hundred to get it fixed elsewhere. The car was in perfect shape upon arrival. All they had to do is AC Work. The AC components sit next to the coolant reservoir and they cracked it on the left hand side. DO NOT EVER ISE THEM! They will purposely damage your car so you will keep coming back! RUN!!!! They will pretend and deny they have no accountability for the damages they cause! read more

Before I'd been here, I'd been able to shrug off mechanics who've been lazy and tried to scam me for cheap parts high labor cost work before, but I've never had one lose their temper at me until today. This mechanic refused to actually work on my car after saying my rear wheel bearing was "bad". He tried to essentially use overcomplicating jargon to describe shaking my wheel bearing and feeling some play. Instead of digging deeper, he just stopped the process there and called me, offering to replace some incredibly cheap parts for an incredibly *not* cheap amount of money, because mechanics shops primarily pay their techs by commission, and therefore they have an inscentive to attempt to make repairs with cheap parts but high labor costs. I'm a young, fairly small woman, so I have somewhat had to get used to, quite frankly - men in specialized fields talking to me like I'm a toddler, but after that tech had his fun fighting back the urge to yell at me for essentially implying he was trying to scam me, I just took my keys and got into my car and I broke down crying. For all the reviews saying how nice these guys are, I'm sure they're true. I'm sure plenty of people have had very polite service and that's totally fine, but it's the 1% of interactions where you have to consider how capable someone is of talking down to you so harshly and with such bitterness that you can't hold it together afterwards. If you're well off and have a nice car that just needs an oil change, I'm sure these guys are fine. If you're not loaded and have a car that needs something they can start to wedge-service you on, look elsewhere. read more

I appreciate the way the staff communicate with you and explain what's wrong (or isn't wrong) . They are good at explaining the pros and cons of any preventive repairs and I never feel pressured or feel like they are trying to upsell me on things I don't need. read more

I have taken my RAV4 here for inspection twice and one oil change. Everyone was extremely nice. Frank did an excellent job on my car, he is truly an asset to this company. Jason the owner is very friendly and nice. He will explain everything in every normal day language. I'll definitely be back! read more

My Subaru Outback has developed, more than once, a typical Outback flaw -- vibration & rattle of the "heatshield" . . . I stopped in to Apex a couple days ago to make an appointment (they're a couple blocks from where I live). They took me in on the spot. I waited about a half hour reading a magazine, as I were at the doctor's office, & was soon enough on my way. Thanks. read more

I've been using Apex for car inspections and various repairs for years now. They're clear and honest when it comes to communication. They charge fair prices for parts and labor. They've earned my trust through their service and I'm happy to recommend them to folks. read more

This is one of the worst shops I've ever used. The owner smells like booze (every time I met with him), and the receptionist (current not former) is so very unprofessional that I wonder how she keeps her job. Don't go there. Disgraceful. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. Reasonable prices and honest workers. I am a young female with not a single clue about cars and can easily be scammed when taking my car into shops. These men are such a pleasure to communicate with and do not take advantage of you. Jason the owner is an awesome person!!!! read more

I've been using Apex for my annual inspections and other services for 4+ years, and they never disappoint. Reasonable prices, quick turnaround, courteous employees. read more

After I had an inspection and an estimate done for an accident I was told that they won't take a company credit card from the company that damaged my car! Who does that these days! I waisted my time and the other companies time, who was more than willing to pay with a credit card. Kilkeary didn't return my calls after that! I went to another auto body repair and got helped the same day! Don't waist your time! read more

I needed an inspection for my car. They were able to get me in within a few days. Unfortunately I ended up needing some work but they were able to complete it same day and at a price that seemed reasonable after some research. They were polite and friendly. read more

Great auto service in the South Side! This has been the most friendliest garage I have ever been to. Everyone is friendly, honest, and informative. I would recommend to anyone in the area. They have weekend hours and they do work with your schedule. Price wise I think it's standard pricing as other garages I have been to. read more

Called Apex to honor a 2-year warranty that was discussed with them during my last visit, but the owner told me not to bring my car to the shop. If you want a mechanic that will honor their words, I'll suggest you try another mechanic. I had a terrible experience with Apex and I won't go there again. read more

Called Apex from Philadelphia needing urgent service on my daughter's car (she's a college student in Pittsburgh). Jason was very understanding and accommodating on a busy Saturday morning. We had the car towed in to the shop and serviced that day, avoiding a potential engine failure. Jason's people skills eased my daughter's embarrassment over her mistake, making the situation so much easier to resolve. Thank You Apex! You saved the day. read more

These guys are the best! This stellar review is long overdue, because I began using Apex Auto's services a couple years ago for my company's work vehicles. They did such a fine job that I began bringing my own personal vehicle there for oil changes & inspections/emissions. Jason and his employees are always thorough, friendly, personable, helpful and honest, and their prices are reasonable. After having a poor experience with another shop in the South Side (who clearly took advantage of the fact that I am a woman), it's really great to know that Apex Auto treats ALL of their customers well, especially when you're visiting them for a not-so-great reason. I highly recommend taking your vehicles there! read more

Jason and the guys at Apex are respectful, timely, professional, and overall first-class. I always bring my vehicle here and leave happy every time they work on it. I recommend Apex Auto Service for any vehicle needs. read more

I had my A/C repaired last week. They fit me into their schedule two days after I called, and repaired my vehicle on the same day. I was quoted a price for a diagnostic and that is exactly what I was charged. The guys were very honest and only suggested repairs that were absolutely necessary to get the A/C working, that's it. No hidden fees and no extra repairs. I was very happy with my service at APEX. HIGHLY RECOMMNED! read more

All of the employees at Apex are top notch. They tell you exactly what they do to your car in depth with no hesitation. Everyone is very kind and welcoming. As a 23 year-old college student, they break things down for me and even took the time to explain to my dad over the phone what they did to my car. I would recommend this garage to anyone of any age, especially young adults. I have gone here for about two years now and have had no problems, only rave reviews. read more

Use of bathroom is an issue: I was 100% prepared to give this place five stars. I went back today for the second time this week to deal with A/C problems. The tech I worked with was fantastic! Jason, the owner, was concerned about accident (slip and fall) liability since his bathroom for customers is behind the shop area and customers must pass through the shop floor to get to it. He wanted to know why I needed to use the bathroom so many times when I was there. As a female customer, I was shocked by this question. I am not in the business of revealing to men I don't know what I do in the bathroom. I was there on Monday for three and a half hours. For the benefit of everyone reading this, I did use the bathroom three times during that morning. Here's why: 1. I wanted to brush my teeth. 2. I wanted to pee and change my tampon. 3. An hour later, I needed to change tampons again because it was the first day of my period. I do not have an ounce of pride or an ounce of shame, so I told Jason this directly and honestly. He immediately threw his hands up and said, "I don't need to know that." In an effort to be fully transparent, I felt he needed the whole truth since he brought up the bathroom visits with me. If you are a woman needing car repair and maintenance, you should be aware of my experience as a female customer with Apex Automotive. read more

Being new to Pittsburgh, I was overwhelmed with the PA requirements for registration here which includes a vehicle inspection and emissions test. When I called to make a quick appointment (you have to get it done within 10 days), the owner was very warm and helpful and made me feel like the business was trustworthy, which is huge when finding a mechanic. This also set my expectations high for their level of service and customer relations. When I got to my appointment, an older gentleman attempted to check me in but was unable to tell me how long it might take for my inspection to take place. He clearly had far less training in customer relations and couldn't answer any of my other questions about what was included in the inspection, just told me he could call when it would all be finished (in some undetermined amount of time before the shop closed), whereas on the phone I was told I could get a time estimate for pick-up whenever I brought my car in. I ended up walking down the street to the Carson shops and restaurants, which are conveniently nearby, and it took about 90 minutes for them to complete the inspection. Their service seemed to be efficient and trustworthy, but I had higher expectations for how they would treat new customers in person. This made me less enthusiastic about returning for any regular maintenance, though I would still recommend it as a fast service for PA registration vehicle inspection. read more

First off, everyone that I talked to was super friendly. I've never had such a painless time getting my car worked on. Being a 20-something girl, big named car places try to hustle me into spending more money on things i don't need, every time. I wish i could remember the name of the guy who helped me, but he was great. kept it super real, didn't use jargon to confuse me, and was just really kind. car is back on the road for more than half of what another place told me, and all within a couple hours. honestly as long as i live in pittsburgh i'm not going to another shop. Thank you guys! read more

I live across the street from Apex. They are always there to help out and they have become my trusted neighborhood auto shop. They go above and beyond and someone even helped me back out of a parking spot on the street when I got boxed in. Everyone there is friendly and helpful. We had a super worry free experience here. They have great hours (7am-6pm weekdays + Saturday morn) which meant that I didn't have to drop our car off the night before or take off work early to pick it up. I got an oil change here and car is running great. They also did a tire rotation. Im glad to have found a spot close to home. read more

All I can say is that the owner of this place is a stand up guy!! I had an oil change done (great work) and they found that my radiator cap was cracked and that I'd need a new one- but said that there was no rush because they'd gotten the hose on nice and tight. However, about a week later my hood was smoking and I was stranded on the side of the road. Apex paid for the tow ($75) AND offered to cover all the costs to replace the radiator!! I'm never using another mechanic in Pittsburgh. If you want great service and great work definitely come here! read more

Had a great experience taking my car here for state inspection & general maintenance. The shop is clean, organized and as professional as a mechanic gets. If I knew auto repair people like this existed, I would not ever purchase an extended factory warranty again! The car issues are explained well, and only repairs that need to be done are done. We paid to have out car issues diagnosed here before taking it to a dealership for repairs so we know what is truly going on and can't be hoodwinked. Best guys around, they really know their stuff. I would recommend them to anyone-they are worth the travel if you don't live near Southside! read more

I called Monday to make an appointment for a Friday to fix my flat tire. When I came in the guy at the front desk says he has no appointment and must have been the new girl, I informed him I spoke to a male. He then tells me that the tire cannot be fixed and gives me a hunk of metal he claims he removed from my tire. I had another person look at it there are two nails in the tire and no other hole. They are lazy and they lie like a rug! Avoid this place at all cost. read more

I went in recently to get an oil changed and was charged $70!!!!(recently refunded) later once things were all said and done, I realized he took advantage of me being young and a female. He didnt ask what kind of oil I wanted or what my car called for. Later once I had a guy call and ask about the situation, Jason tried to lie and say he explained the prices to me. On top of that, I went first thing on a Monday morning before any other customers were there and it took over an hour. read more
