They are honest, look at exactly what you need and never try to up sell you. Very happy with them - finding a place in the city is a bit challenging to trust, but I"m glad I found Wahl's. After another repair place had damaged my car they were able to take my car right away and look to see what happened. There are utterly no words for this establishment. Let's first off state that I simply chose this place off the reviews of fellow yelpers. There was a specfic review from a father out of state that praised them on taking care of his daughter in his absence. So, I felt good about getting my car looked at. I went on Friday and asked a young man if they had time to look at my car today or on Monday. He said Monday he could look at it. I have to be at work at an obscene hour, so I dropped off my keys in the key slot with a note attached. I have class until 450pm and I haven't heard from them at all. I made sure to leave my contact info in the note. Finally after several attempts of calling, a man finally answered. I told him who I was and asked about my car. He asked where I parked it which was an indicator that they didn't even bother to look at it. I should of known from that to go to another place. However, my time is limited and I need my car for work. I don't hear from them at all on Tuesday, so I call, call, call, and again no answer. Wednesday comes around and I, the customer initiate the call again. They're not picking up. Finally a man gets on and reports that he took it out and heard some unsettling things but he'd know more tomorrow. Thursday, bloody Thursday. I initiate the customer service for my vehicle by picking up the phone again. Only this time I'm flabbergasted. I call and call and call (no answer machine or receptionist) a man answers and I say who I am and ask about my car. He proceeds to tell me he gave the car to my boyfriend. Yes you read that right my boyfriend. Hold up, check the record, and let's try this again. 1) you never initiated any phone calls with customer (me) about my vehicle. 2) It took you 3 days to give me information about my car and actually look at it. 3) When I did get someone on the phone, not once did I say anything about a boyfriend. 4) I did not leave written permission in my note to give my car to anyone but myself. I say all that to say that I told the gentleman that I don't have a boyfriend...so WHO IN THE WORLD did you give my car to? The man said I'll call you back in 10 minutes. 10 minutes go by, 20 minutes go by, 30 minutes go by, and finally 45 minutes later after my co-workers wonder why I'm so calm I call back (no surprise there). They tell me they're checking their cameras and that it was all so weird because the guy they gave my keys to knew my name and my car and what was going on. I then ask, if it's company policy for them to give keys to someone's car without their consent or permission. The response to that was, but he knew your name and your car, the keys were attached to the clipboard. They said you're going to have to call the city police and report your car as stolen. They never took responsibility for their actions. Needless to say with my own investigative skills I found out who had my car. If I were you I'd steer clear of this "business". Believe it's not worth the headache, stress, or police reports to get your car looked at!!!!! read more

I came here for my state inspection. The guy that helped me out (I think it was Eddie --the boss) dropped me off at home and adjusted my E-brake, fixed a fog lamp, and checked out my master cylinder without any additional charges. Looked here, found this place, and gave them a call. I explained that my daughter was new in town, knew nothing about cars, and was nervous about taking it in. They said to have her stop by. Take your car here. They are awesome. I gave the owner for the repair too many large bills that he couldn't break, so he was like, "Whatever, you keep the rest, I'll take less". They fixed my breaks super, super quickly, and I needed the whole shebang like pads and rotors. Anytime I call this place, they try to get me in quickly without knowing who I am. It is hard to get a spot on the street to park your car so be prepared for that, but they do great work and give great advice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

He won't steer you wrong, if he tells you that something needs addressed, then it NEEDS addressed. Very honest hard working man. This is one of the best garages in the city without a doubt. It requires one call to the shop and they get you in as soon as they can and prices are definitely the best in town. The best places are the places you hear nothing about, it's a good and a bad thing because everybody should know about this garage. I am friends with the owners son and any time I have any issue with my car or even a friends car he is the first person I go to. Absolutely takes care of anyone who is ever recommended to the shop and they love the business. Ed Wahl (the owner) is a great guy and is somebody who just loves what he does and wants people on the road with their repairs and soon, AS SAFE, and as cheap as possible. Love these guys! They took great care of both of my cars quickly when I was running late on my inspections. Did inspection, emissions, and oil change on both cars plus a repair on one of them. That was a little over 2 months ago and the cars are running smoothly. Prices were extremely affordable, especially compared to the corporate "quick oil change" places. Lookin at you, Jiffy Lube. They didn't do or recommend anything I didn't need and they didn't treat me differently for being a woman (yes, that still happens to me everywhere else I go for auto care). I went in for a state inspection today and was met with friendly, efficient service from Eddie and the crew. It's so nice not to be met with a shop that is looking for something, anything to fix and get more money - they are honest and they look out for of their customers. I took my car in the weekend of the 4th of July for some repairs including 2 wheel bearing replacements. I think they were swamped and very busy this particular weekend, but I didn't feel that my car was handled with care and when I received it back, the original issue wasn't fixed and I had to take it to another garage to have the wheel bearing properly replaced. Also, as a side note, it was incredibly difficult to find the key drop because it's not readily apparent (we walked around the business three times before finally seeing it was just a slot on the garage door,) and because it's located in the Southside, finding parking at this particular garage was almost impossible and I felt unsure about leaving my car on the street for a few nights. Overall, not a great experience and definitely over-paid for the service I received. read more

I have been to Wahl's Auto Service for my state inspection and emissions for the past two years. The first time, I called and was squeezed in the same day by the owner, Eddie. He was very professional, efficient and fair with pricing. The inspection was done within 2 hours or so and picking it up and paying was a breeze. This year, I called a day in advance and after asking what kind of car I have, was told that it would be no problem and to just drop it off in the morning. This time around, I was greeted by the owner's son, Anthony, who was very kind and personable. I thought it was nice that he checked to make sure that I had remembered to take my house keys off of my key ring when handing over the keys to my vehicle. I live nearby, so I walked home to wait for it to be done and got a call within minutes of walking in the door. Fastest inspection ever! I was also able to save $10 on emissions because my car is low mileage. Everyone working in the garage seemed to be working hard and were friendly. As other reviewers have said, they treat young women as normal customers, where some auto shops try to price gouge women because we often stereotypically "know nothing about cars". Hopefully I won't need repair work done on my car, but if I do, I will go to Wahl's, and I will continue to patronize them for routine inspections and maintenance, now that my free dealership maintenance has ended! read more

My daughters attend the University of Pittsburgh and had a car problem. The engine of their 1999 Toyota Avalon overheated. It was also time for the car's state inspection. My wife & I had planned to visit that weekend so I went to Advance Auto Parts in Southside to pick up some coolant. While I was there I asked for a reliable garage. They mentioned several nearby places. One of them was Wahl's Auto Repair - just a couple of blocks away. Normally, I would have waited till our girls were home to take it to a garage that I trust for the state inspection but because it had just needed coolant - I wanted the car checked out before my daughters drove a long distance (we live 5 hours away). I was nervous about getting raked across the coals by a garage that would realize we were from out of the area. To make a long story short - I was so completely satisfied with Wahl's service that I would almost be willing to make a 5 hour trip to have them service my wife's & my cars. They checked out the coolant system, found no leaks and they did the state inspection and found no issues. Our total bill was less than $150. Honesty and integrity along with competence in any profession are all factors that for make a great business experience. This place is wonderful! My engine was sounding awful and my "service engine soon" light had come on (and then turned back off) a few days prior, so I took my SUV here. Turns out, all I needed was to have one of my rusted engine heat shields removed, which they did for a mere $20. They could have easily convinced me that I needed more work done, or at least needed a new shield, but they were very honest with me, which, as a woman in my 20s, I very much appreciated.
