I had a mixed experience at Bastone's, where I went (on an old family friend's recommendation) to get a wheel arch repaired. The positives were that they were able to get me in very quick and were, overall, friendly and professional. I do think they know what they are doing. The major negative was that the final price came out nearly twice the original quote: close to $600 instead of the original $320. This was, I was told, because an additional part had to be sourced and installed. While I was already disappointed in this unexpected cost doubling, the icing on the cake was that I wasn't asked if I wanted to proceed with the repair. I was just informed that the cost had jumped, that the repair was complete, and that I now needed to pay up. This suggested to me that the original assessment of the damage had not been as thorough as it could have been. While a quote is an estimate, not a certainty, it's not good practice for businesses that run on quotes to let customers pay twice what they were originally expecting. In this situation, for instance, I would have appreciated a discount on the unexpected new part. That might have eaten into their profit margin, but it would have guaranteed that I would become a return customer, whereas now, I am not so sure. read more

I was in town from NYC to visit my daughter in CMU grad school. Dropped by because I thought I heard some weird noise on my Honda minivan so wanted to check out before my 6 hour drive back to NY. Bob was extremely nice and professional. Without appointment, he asked one of his guys to drive my minivan with me sitting next to him. He didn't hear much noise after driving for 5-10 minutes. So I felt much better heading back on the road. They didn't charge me anything for the check/ drive. Greatly appreciate it. Seems like a honest business that have been around for years. I will recommend this place to my daughter if she ever has any car issue while in school. 5 out of 5 stars in my brief experience. read more

My daughter had her 2012 Outback serviced here on January 7th, 2025, to have her radiator replaced. They charged $616.21 to replace a $270 radiator that sells for $120 at NAPA. They also wanted to replace the battery for $300, which I declined, and it tested fine elsewhere. Also noted that the hood struts were bad, when they worked fine right before the car was dropped off. Finally, the shroud for the serpentine belt was missing after the radiator was replaced. I have a timestamped picture from when it was dropped off by AAA showing the hood struts operational and the belt shroud in place. It is almost impossible for both hood struts to fail unless someone forced the hood up, breaking the seals, and causing the gas charge to release. I just noticed this now when my daughter visited us this weekend - we are 4/12 hours away - and I serviced her vehicle. She had Bastone inspect her car last September with no issues. This incident makes me question their integrity and will not have her return again. In response to the owner's reply... The hood worked fine when it was dropped off by AAA. We have a picture of it opened. Yes, it now does not stay up, and upon inspection, both strut showed damage as if it was forced open too far. Two struts do not fail simultaneously. The battery was drained because the car was sitting with the 4 ways for two hours on the bridge prior to AAA arriving and during the tow. Her car was not driven for over a month while she was away. She took it to Autozone, who ran a load test and found it to be just fine and only required a charge. I appreciate the reply but disagree... The facts do not add up here. read more

It's difficult to find someone that you can trust with your car and ensure that they're not telling you need things that you don't actually need. I was very happy to find Bastone not too far from where we live. I scheduled an inspection appointment online and they responded promptly. A week later, I dropped off my car early in the morning around 7:30, and they called around 11am to inform me that it passed inspection. However, the rear wiper blade was stripped and the battery was close to dying. I appreciated the fact that they were clear that the car required neither immediately to pass inspection, but it would soon. I ended up resolving both issues with them, because that was easier. The cost wasn't too high and my car was ready by 2pm. I highly recommend Bastone Auto Service for your future car needs. read more

Bastone was quick with my inspection and repair. I am new to PA so they did my VIN verification prior and scheduled my inspection then for their first opening 2 weeks out. With the inspection, I needed one of my tail light lens replaced and when they called they stated everything was $200 together, originally $300, as I needed my windshield wipers replaced too but I replaced them myself. When I want to pick up my total was $294. Maybe there was a miscommunication regarding pricing. But I assumed that with the $200 price they told me over the phone maybe it would have been slight over, if they rounded, and it would have been closer to the lower end of $200 when I picked up my car. So slightly disappointed with price transparency. read more

The convenience of the service station is the main draw. I took my car for an inspection and the quote for repairs to pass inspection was just under $1200. i thanked them and took my car to another station for the same exact repairs and the total was less than half of their quote. The owner may try to respond in his defense, but in my opinion, proven by getting the repairs elsewhere, this station seems to quote on the high side for repairs. Make sure to look further into actual repair and part costs when receiving a quote!! read more

Are you out of warranty, then look no further. Good customer service, knowledgeable staff, bob is a joy to work with and it's the kind of place that you simply know they're not over charging you or ripping you off. read more

Jim MULDERIG... I will recommend Bastone Auto Service.. Made app took care of inspection, oil change, tire rotation all in timely manner.. They were fair, honest, and easy to communicate with. Definitely worth appointment.. read more

I needed a quick assessment on whether my car would likely survive a 3000 mile road trip given sudden warning lights that appeared on the dashboard. They gave me a code reading after hooking up their monitor to my car to gauge the transmission. After identifying merely sensor errors rather than serious issues, they gave me the assurance that I could resume my travel as I was only in town briefly. I had to leave immediately otherwise I would've proceeded to full repair. Very convenient place. Quick turnaround. I give them 6 out of 5 stars! read more

Called to schedule a brake job with OEM parts. These folks force their customers to buy (typically low quality / overpriced) parts from them, even if the customer has already purchased genuine OEM parts from the manufacturer. Typically, a show would simply not warranty such parts, but these folks are simply greedy and want to double dip. read more

It is rare finding honest, kind people. I took my car to get checked; they usually don't service my brand, but still they were so generous and took a look at it. (I was concerned to drive it) it wasn't possible to for them to fix it but they told me what was wrong. There was no change even tho it took time to inspect it. Such class. I'm beyond grateful Take you cars there, their superb integrity it is a testament of service beyond parallel read more

Break pads that were worth less than $200 (looked up part numbers online) were sold to me at about $400, then another $350 was charged as labor. I totally regret that I didn't get a quote or stopped them from doing this to me the moment I realized that they are overselling me the parts and their service. Would definitely not recommend to anyone! read more

If I could give them 10 stars I would. The employees at this company are top notch and so incredibly reliable and honest that I always feel lucky to be dealing with them. Other than my Subaru dealership, they are the only ones to touch my car. No doubt there were times they could have had me buy a whole new tire (versus patch one), or over-service the vehicle, but they actually do the right thing for you even if you are clueless (like me). I rely on them heavily and always feel my car is well taken care of. Fast, reliable and honest. read more

These guys totally wasted my time! I asked them to see what was wrong and they made me wait forever and then misdiagnosed the problem. They're the worst! I promise! read more

These guys do everything by the book. I had lapsed in my PenDot stickers and registration, and they helped me get that together (they won't work on your car if it's registration isn't valid). They told me my 2004 Toyota would need new wipers to pass safety inspection. They had me, but the cost was reasonable. read more

Needed emergency work done here on my SUB. I was visiting family in Pittsburg and as I was getting ready to drive home I heard disturbing noises as I was turning the steering wheel. They fit me in that morning and had my car finished Hythe end of the day. Ended up being a pretty extensive job and they were fantastic. Check this small but great shop out if you need car repairs in the Pittsburg area. read more

Love this place. The atmosphere is friendly and professional. After taking my car to Pep Boys I was glad to find an auto service place where I didn't feel like I was a nuisance. The price is great for the services I received and speedy. I would recommend you call ahead in order to make an appointment. Pep Boys had my car for 4 days and didn't fix the problem - Bastone had my car for 2 hours and it was ready. Bastone has become my auto service place of choice. Wish I had found it sooner! read more

Bastone offered me a fair price for the work they did. I took it there to get a second opinion and despite the fact that they have a sign saying they charge for check-ups, it was free. They quickly got back to me telling me what had to be done and what they recommended giving detailed reasoning behind it. At no point did I feel like they were trying to cheat me or up-sell me. And they were the cheapest place I checked out. read more

What a crooked company! My wife had taken her vehicle there to get inspected while I was out of town and knowing the trade myself I knew everything that needed done for inspection properly. They saw her as an unknowing woman and took complete advantage of her. Her vehicle is 2 years old and evidently "needed" a battery, two new tires (which were just replaced three months prior) and rotors which also was not even close to being necessary. Absolutely crooked company! And very arrogant when approached about said matters! read more

Bastone Auto Service - Bulldog hanging out at Bastones.... - Auto Repair Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I came here for a state safety inspection. They were able to fit me in the same day without an appointment, which was nice because I was working from home with a cold that day, so it was convenient. The shop office is a little dated with floor to ceiling wood paneling - but in some weird way, I really liked it. All over were posted old photographs of family, friends, etc, and I could tell there were a lot of memories and history in this place. The inspection went fine, they didn't try to sell anything unnecessary to me, and I was given the same price I was told. Unfortunately, no experience actually getting my car repaired here, but based on this experience, I'd be happy to give them a try. read more

These guys are reliable, honest and easy to deal with. We have used them since we moved to Pittsburgh and have always gotten good service. Would much rather deal with a local small business than with a national chain where they are paid on how much they can sell you. read more

I have been taking my vehicles to Frank and his crew for almost 20 years. Since then, the thought of taking them anywhere else, especially to a dealership, has never even crossed my mind, They are prompt in scheduling; they explain what the problem is without making me feel like an idiot; their work is almost always done as planned; I have never felt ripped-off; and their work has always been high quality. Plus, there have been a few times when I have had an unexpected problem and, even though I know that they were busy, they squeezed me in. read more

I love Bastone Auto! As a young female, I'm always hesitant about car service places, but Bastone has always been transparent and honest with me. They are also very quick - I needed an oil change and an inspection and asked to have my car back for afternoon appointments, which they were able to do for me no problem! read more

I was passing through Pittsburgh and discovered a headlight was out. I found Bastone through Yelp and drove over. They fixed the light on the spot charging me $12. Nice, genuine guys but they wasted my time and misdiagnosed my car. Said I needed a repair done that had nothing to do with my check engine light and that it would cost me over $600 after charging me $130 just to diagnose it. They also admitted to not really knowing what was wrong with my car, not being familiar with "newer" cars, and told me to bring it in some other time for more "diagnosis" after I suggested that they take a look at my EVAP system, which is exactly what my check engine light was on for. After taking it to another car repair shop, my car was properly diagnosed and taken care of within an hour for only $200. I'd avoid for anything other than simple repairs. read more

I quickly needed a car inspection and called around. Bastone picked up and was able to fit me in within the week. I dropped off the car early in the morning ~8:30am and got a call around 11:30 to pick it up!! Good timing as I had run my errands nearby and sat down at a coffee shop to get some work done. It is hard to improve on what other users have said, but Carl, Bob and their dog, Quasimodo, are the GREATEST! I was on a very tight schedule, and Carl fit me in, and gave me a complete assessment without any hype. Pricing?? UNREAL! Service? THOROUGH! Customer Service? OLD SCHOOL! Don't usually write reviews but this car shop was very kind enough to lend me a car tire pump for my flat tire about 3 blocks away. Carl lent me a portable pump without hesitation which I carried and fixed my tire before bringing it back. They didn't charge me a thing. Goes to show they are in the business to help people and I truly respect that. Very nice guys and you best know they have my future business indefinitely. read more

Bastone is the best auto service I have found in the US. I have trusted my car to them for all the years I have been in Pittsburgh and I do not plan on changing them. They are very professional, logical prices, and they make everything possible to meet your time schedule if you ask them for. They even give some perks for "loyalty" customers (e.g., free oil change for every 6 oil changes you do there - of course this means every 2.5-3 years but still). The also have a shuttle to drop you off (I have never used it but I have seen other people using it). However, because they are so good they are very busy too, so make an appointment ahead of time. They are also not open during weekends. read more

they kept me waiting, they didnt know what they were doing, and extremely unprofessional. its was incredibly antiblack and rude.

quick service and fair price for snow tires/oil change.

I've now had the chance to experience Bastone's service a couple times. I'd say the most important thing about a mechanic shop to me is the friendliness of the employees. So many of these places can be gruff, unprofessional, jargony, condescending. All of my interactions with the folks at Bastone have been great. They are professional, polite, and friendly. Also, they work SOOO fast! It'll blow your mind. I had been going to a different shop for a couple years, then moved across town. Whenever my car ended up at the other place, I knew I'd be without my car for days and days. At Bastone, even with the nightmare vehicles I've brought them, they've been lightning fast getting things taken care of. I'm very satisfied with the experience I've had with Bastone and would certainly recommend them to anyone. Thanks guys! read more

After dropping my car off (which i waited over a week to even do that) to get the air conditioning fixed, they told me i needed a valve replaced, but they couldnt help me because "Their mechanics are too old and dont bend that way anymore". I asked if they could recommend someone and they said "I dont know? The dealership?". Then they charged me 110 dollars for their "assessment". Nothing like paying a 110 dollar assessment from some mechanics that cant bend! Save your money and time, these guys are complete scam artists. read more

I went here complaining of gas smell in our car. I was already pretty sure that this was due to loose clamps on the fuel line, but wanted to take it to the specialist to make sure the car was safe, and no actual lines/hoses were leaking, or anything worse. Mechanic diagnosed problem accurately and honestly (no attempts were made to push anything else on us, or over-diagnose). The problem was fixed promptly, and the car was ready for pick-up in a few hours.Shop was clean, orderly and staff were straight up. Didn't feel like I was being manipulated or anything like that. Only complaint is price. I should say straight up I do not know the going rate for this sort of work in Pittsburgh, but once diagnosed (it is the first thing a mechanic would look for with this problem) the fix is very basic and would require no new parts except maybe a few new clamps (can be bought at Walmart for a buck each). Just locating and tightening clamps. We paid over $150 for this. So, in conclusion: Good mechanic, good job, good environment, but pricey. read more

I'll be back to edit this review on how my car works after its appointment but so far in so impressed by Bastone's customer service. I moved to Pittsburgh 3 days ago and my car started acting up. I'm from a small town and have had the same trusty mechanic for 10 years. Pep Boys was my first stop... who tried to take advantage of me. My mechanic back home found Bastone Auto for me and even though they close at five told me to head over at 4:40! You walk in and immediately feel like you've walked into a real auto shop - where people are treated like people and they know how important your transportation is to you! Not once did they try to talk down to me or treat me like I didn't know what I was talking about... They showed and explained everything to me! It's great to have that small town feel in a city! I'm hoping, and pretty confident I'll be just as impressed by their mechanical work as I am with their customer service!! UPDATE: SO very grateful to have found Bastone Auto! These guys are genuine, honest, and hard working! My car is working great again! I feel confident taking my car to Bastone Auto for all my future issues! Happy to have a mechanic I can TRUST! read more

Definitely overpriced for what they offered. Took my car in to check my AC, they didn't get back to me for the whole day, and decided to fix whatever the problem was without asking me and charging me an insane about (approximately $150 more than most places). Definitely will not go back there again. read more

This place is horrible. If my vehicle broke down in front of his place I'd have it towed to a different garage. I took it in for a simple inspection. He called me back with a mile long list of things. I told him go ahead and replace the two burned out tail light bulbs and tighten the control arm bolt that was loose. I came back to pick it up and had a bill that was charging almost $100 in labor fees for changing those two light bulbs and looking at another bulb!!!!! He didn't tighten the control arm bolt because he said it would need an alignment so he preferred sending the vehicle off with loose control arms. He didn't pass it for safety inspection and we settled as me paying for the entire inspection even though he will charge me another $30 if I bring it back for the other sticker. I hope this place gets shut down. I thought Los Angeles was supposed to be the city of shady vultures...I guess it's called Shadyside here for a reason read more
