It's part of my North Loop Jaunt where I hit up all my fave places in the neighborhood every few months or so. Prior to relocating, I'd visit Austin twice a year and always made time to stop in. This is one of the most inspiring and well laid out vintage stores ever. You can just get lost for hours. So many ideas for home decor and styling. They've always got a grand selection of MCM (Mid-Century Modern) furniture and accessories. My house is 99% MCM. They've really just got the best collection of everything. Trinkets, knickknacks, patches, light fixtures, dishes, mirrors, art, clothing, records, jewelry...you get my drift. Service is so super friendly and welcoming. I am particularly fond of the pro-trans sign in the entrance window!! Everything they carry is in very good to pristine condition and pricing is reflective. With that said, the prices are extremely fair. I can't recommend Room Service enough. Support local. Support small business. Sustainability. Be creative.

I went into Ermine for my first time today wearing a favorite leather jacket, thinking I could get some hands-on expert advice on leather care, zipper repair, and also do a bit of browsing. EJ was super helpful and generous with his advice: I'll have to keep an eye out for a decent tailor that's somehow surviving the Zoom-and-sweatpants era and eventually pick up some mink oil. The parking situation in that whole strip is a bit annoying. It was busy enough that I felt lucky even getting a spot, but only after I pulled in did I see that each little shop in the building has its own partitioned/reserved spots, so I would have to back out again and park around the block someplace... or risk keeping my car in front of their neighbors, due to close just 30 minutes after I pulled in. I figured it'd be worth the risk if I kept my visit brief. Once inside, the available selection of men's clothing exceeded my expectations of what I thought I'd find in such a cozy shop, and everything seemed to be in great condition. This is not your mom's "mold and mothballs" thrift store experience. When I was browsing, EJ kept at a perfect "customer service distance", balancing privacy with convenience; I didn't have any trouble getting him to answer questions, open the jewelry case, or check me out. He mentioned that Ermine's dressing rooms are open now, but I didn't get to take advantage of that this time around. The prices were astonishingly reasonable for the location. I had to fight (and am still fighting) the urge to snap up a beautiful pair of Florsheim wing-tips in just my size. I *really* hadn't expected to buy jewelry at all--I held my breath when I turned over a very sparkly snail to look at its price and gave a sigh of relief when the tag revealed that the charming bauble was, in fact, something I could pick up on a whim as a thank-you gift for a friend, who'd otherwise have gotten yet another bottle of wine. I couldn't resist. I'll definitely be going back. Ermine seems to be a great spot for me to keep an eye out for a pair of decent cowboy boots in my size, priced such that I could actually afford them. I've been meaning to make this post for awhile now (I will often reference that I have A LOT of draft reviews I am working through). Anyway, I am saddened by the low reviews and the treatment of other patrons by staff. That simply has never been the case for me. Maybe it's my winning personality? HAHA. Or maybe, they were having several bad days? I don't know... Either way, I will keep shopping here. They have a nice selection and supporting local is important to me. Hopefully, the good service I have experienced continues.

They were super sweet to my puppy. I have never experienced any judgement about my attire. Today, my trip was to replace some missing wash cloths that match the bath and hand towels I had purchased on a previous trip. Not a big sale and the people at the store were super kind to help me locate the correct style and color. As to the pricing---yes this merchandise is expensive. But I do think that is because of the quality of the fabrication. If you are looking for inexpensive linens, there are literally hundreds of other options. If you are looking for high quality, organic, cool sleeping linens those are expensive here and everywhere. I appreciate the curation of the store. I have purchased many pillows, bath linens, bed linens, duvet covers, and accessories. I think they have nailed the unique casual chic style that is so associated with Austin. Ann and Eric helped us pick out a beautiful chandelier for our new vacation house in Telluride…read more What was amazing is that we were able to do it from Colorado. The chandelier we had purchased in Denver turned out to be too small to fit the space for which it was intended. So I searched online and found a chandelier that The Antique Swan had advertised on line. It looked like a perfect fit. We called and spoke initially to Ann, the owner, who is the nicest person and knows so much about antiques. Turns out my chandelier was purchased by Ann on one of her annual trips through Europe where she scours the countryside looking for interesting pieces to ship home to her store. It is cool to get a first person story of where your purchase came from. My chandelier came from an estate near Stratford on Avon in the UK. I can't say enough about how helpful Eric was in getting the chandelier to us in a hurry. We had them pack and ship it to us sight unseen. It got to us in 2 days and each piece of crystal was individually bubble wrapped. It was exactly as advertised if not better. I highly recommend The Antique Swan.
