Now, here's where I had a little identity crisis. I've always considered myself a coffee lover, but after tasting coffee without cream, sugar, or flavored syrups, I started questioning everything! Do I actually love coffee, or do I just love cream and sugar with a little coffee mixed in? Apparently, there's a reason I've always been a latte girl! All jokes aside, I genuinely enjoyed the experience and learning more about coffee, even if my taste buds weren't quite prepared for the bitterness. I'm not sure I'd do another black coffee tasting, but I'm glad I tried it! As for Arcade itself, I absolutely love this location! The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the beautiful atmosphere, and being able to see the roasting equipment right behind you make the space feel so special. I also really enjoy their regular menu. This experience certainly hasn't scared me away from coffee. I've just learned that my coffee and I have a much better relationship when cream and a little sweetness are involved! I'll definitely be back!

There were a lot of seemingly regular customers who ordered online and came in to pick up their coffee. We were there on a Saturday morning and there was a steady stream of customers in addition to our group. A bunch of our group got the banana bread and they all said it was wonderful. We ordered the breakfast burrito and it was so heavy. It just seems the way this restaurant presents itself, as a modern elevated coffee shop, the heaviness of the food just doesn't fit--especially for breakfast. When we strolled up, it was before the rush, and every table was dirty and the garbage outside the front door was literally overflowing. It's probably the center's responsibility for that, but still... it's not welcoming to walk past a heap of garage as you are entering their shop. Apparently, I've aged out of that aesthetic. Service was decent and quick, though, and I really love the mission behind this business, which definitely deserves some extra love from me. AS OF THIS MORNING/TODAY (10/13/26) they are using a new machine for payment going forward. The woman at the window (she seems new there) handed over this machine and she wanted me to press a button BEFORE I could even swipe my card (first time seeing this machine at a coffee bean). It seems like they want people to tip on the machine now, but I could not see clearly on there (blurry), so she got upset with me for that. The "problem" was that I needed my reading glasses, which I forgot at home... so what a coincidence that they just started with a new system in which I need reading glasses to see better. Well, I asked the woman if I could skip the button in order to swipe my card this time around, so that I can FINALLY get out of there (didn't have cash on me). There was a LONG LINE of cars behind me, so I wanted to keep it moving. Apparently she did not like that. She went on to tell me (in a certain tone) that she would make the exception this time. She enjoyed giving me a hard time for that. I was even squinting to try to see the screen better. She didn't care that I was having a hard time, so it was apparent that she doesn't like her job all that much to begin with. LET ME ADD THAT I WAITED PATIENTLY FOR ALMOST TWENTY MINUTES IN THAT DRIVE-THRU, only to get a hard time just because they switched up with a "new system" as she called it. I was trained in customer service in my 20s, and I do know ONE thing about good customer service, and that is... you GLADLY go out of your way to help someone WHEN it is a REASONABLE request that is NOT detrimental to the business. I paid FULL PRICE ($4.00) for my PLAIN iced Americano coffee (only water, ground coffee beans, and ice), so it's NOT like they lost a single penny for not having my reading glasses on hand!!! As a matter of fact, they actually SAVE MONEY with NOT having to place milk (half & half) in my cup MOST OF THE TIME since I am trying to cut down on milk. Besides, tipping is OPTIONAL in a drive-thru setting. By the time I got my coffee, I simply said "thank you" in a normal tone, yet she had a face like she wanted to kill me or something (a really angry face) ~ not exaggerating (she said nothing back after I said "thank you", and was giving me a mean girl look aka dirty look before I drove away). Unbelievable for an overgrown woman. Looking back, I should have drove off and left her there with the coffee. Other than that, the baristas here are GOOD (i would prefer to tip the baristas directly). The coffee here is exceptional. I almost have an addiction to this coffee, but after what happened above, I will be reconsidering this "vice"/addiction! By the way, I also do my coffee at home, but I have extra work this week (deadline is this Friday), so I needed a stronger coffee for this week. NOTE: tipping culture is OUT OF CONTROL in the USA since the pandemic, and people feel overly-entitled to get a tip for just about anything, just for handing over a piece of food or drink. That's actually basic service...aka selling your product, which is what you are in business for. And that is actually coming from someone who is VERY generous with tipping! Let's put it this way, my spouse gets upset with me for tipping as generously as I do (20% just about anywhere and at most sit-down restaurants), and he doesn't even want me to tip one dollar for take-out (yes, tipping is expected just to take your food home with you). People don't have to go out of their way anymore or even be all that nice to you (many times not even a half-smile or proper greeting like good morning, etc.), and they STILL expect a generous tip! They expect you to tip them just for working a job or for the AVERAGE/NORMAL things that any business should be doing to STAY in business. It is beyond DELUSIONAL if you ask me. There are exceptions to this rule, like tipping generously for food delivery, etc. I am conscientious overall and I strive to be more than fair especially to those that go above and beyond, with the exception of those that treat you like you are just another number (the service is barely average or mediocre at best). I just feel that I should NOT have to tip EVERY SINGLE TIME I get a plain black coffee...or just for getting BASIC SERVICE. In other words, DON'T SELL COFFEE THEN. Why have a coffee shop then? Actually when Coffee Bean had a tip jar outside their drive-thru window at one time, I would place a dollar in it here and there, but NOT every single visit. Truth is, I should NOT have to give a tip for basic/decent service -- that should be standard protocol if you want your business to thrive, but it seems that it is heading towards that no matter what. Anyway, I did not order food or supply at Coffee Bean, so I am getting the most basic of services here. I RARELY get a fancy coffee, and that is when I do tip as well.
