We went for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon (2:30p) and luckily the restaurant wasn't busy. They have some great lunch options. We went for a couple of staples, which both came with miso soup and a salad. Chirashi lunch (10 pieces of sashimi over rice): the fish was very fresh... I thoroughly enjoyed it; however, there was very little rice, and I left hungry... Considering how far you have to go to get here, you'd expect the $18 "lunch deal" to have more rice. Sushi & sashimi lunch (3 pieces of sushi, 9 of sashimi and 1 California roll): this $19.50 lunch "deal" was more filling. The fish was fresh, but I didn't find the whole thing to be particularly memorable. The roll was boring. Overall, I'm not sure I'd take subway AND bus all the way to this place again. We are fourteen months in Riverdale, and have been going to the Japanese place across the street ("Palace" is part of its name) but friends told us about Aoyu, and after tonight's dinner we are converted. Fresh ingredients, full of flavor: even the dinner salad, usually a mundane dish of iceberg lettuce, one grape tomato, and orange dressing, was full of fresh greens and a subtle dressing. Edamane: also fresh and salty. I ordered a seared salmon roll and was delighted by the freshness of the fish. My wife loved her salmon teriyaki, a huge portion; my chicken katsu was crisp, not greasy, and so generous. Red bean ice cream and we were done. It's hard to find sushi spots in the Bronx but I found this on yelp and wow I'm so happy I found it. The ambience is gorgeous nice dim lights on the weekends come early it gets packed and it's not a large restaurant. They have happy hour Monday -Thursday I believe until like 3-4pm but I'm not too sure. I came here on the weekend for dinner and we were seated luckily we came just in time before the rush. My fiancé had the sashimi and I ordered a California roll, a crispy roll and shrimp tempura all the sushi were very fresh my fiancé just kept saying "HMmmm" Lol we definitely will be back. Found this place on a scroll down yelp and it was great, annoyed I ever ordered from another place. To begin, I got my order in 20 minutes. Nothing beats that! I paid by card, and the delivery person had a credit card machine so I was able to swipe my own card (not giving card numbers over the phone). I got a Pink Lady roll which was very soft, fresh, and came with 10 pieces. My second rol was a shrimp tempura roll which was much smaller, 5 pieces. Both tools tasted great. read more

During dinner hours you are greeted with a warm towel for your hands, their in-house tea is delicious and smoothing, the sushi is always fresh and they have very nice wine bottle deals. Aoyu won't always have Uni, depending on the season and availability, but when they do, it's very good. Came here with hubbs for an impromptu dinner. I was craving sushi rice and seaweed and remembered seeing this spot highlighted on Yelp a few weeks prior. We've eaten in the neighborhood before. There are many really nice restaurants in the area and I don't think we've ever had a bad meal at any of them. Parking is sometimes difficult on a busy night but we lucked out with parking nearby. I was worried we would have to wait for a table but luckily we scored the last two-top in the dining room. They also have limited seating at the sushi bar but that's only about 4 seats if I recall. We were seated right upon entering the restaurant and our server greeted us fairly quickly. We started with Edamame and Shrimp Shumai, both of which were very good. Our table was visited regularly by the staff, making sure we were OK, clearing the table and refilling our water. Hubby had Chicken Teriyaki which I tasted and was really good. He enjoyed it a lot. I went H.A.M. on my order and had a Salmon Skin Hand Roll, King California Roll, Spider Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll. I went with cooked maki for the evening and I loved it all. I was amazed with how well they fitted everything on one plate. The meal was great. The dining area is cozy and I don't know if they take reservations but if you have a large party you might want to call ahead to secure a table. The staff was wonderful. It makes a difference when servers, bussers and managers all work together to ensure you're enjoying your meal and are tended to. I'm so tremendously thankful that Aoyu is in our neighborhood. The service is insanely fast for pick up (literally walking out the door just a few minutes after I've ordered), and the food is always consistently delicious and of high quality. The lunch specials are a literal feast for under $20 Monday-Saturday. We love the toro scallion roll, the yellowtail jalapeno roll, and the Fancy roll which has mango and lobster salad. SO GOOD! Anyone who lives in the Bronx knows it's a bitch to get from the east side to the west side of the borough (and vice versa). No train lines run east-west, and there are few roads that connect as well. However, I was in the mood for sushi tonight, and Yelp searching "sushi Bronx" brought Aoyu up as the top result - it had a high review average and 100+ reviews, so I decided to make the trek to Riverdale and try it. Aoyu is small and narrow, like most other sushi bars I've been to. The color scheme is mostly white with splashes of dark woods and black - a very clean look which makes the dining room look very open. The seats were nice and comfortable, even the chopsticks had a finished look to them - almost metallic, not the normal wooden ones. As soon as we were seated, a server brought us hot towels to wash our hands, a really nice surprise. The menu has a selection of rolls, ramen, and other dishes. We started with garlic broccoli, basically just steamed broccoli tossed with garlic - it was so simple yet so tasty - full of flavor. For my main I chose two rolls - they have a classic roll section of the menu as well as a specialty roll section. I went with a king crab California roll (from the regular roll selection) and the American Dream roll (from the specialty roll selection - ooh!). The American Dream had shrimp tempura and spicy tuna in it, covered with a sauce which made it super tasty. Both rolls were fresh and delicious. BEWARE! I became ill after having dinner here last night. As I wrapped up my meal I began to have mild abdominal cramping. I thought that was odd. Paid the bill and left. As I got in my car about 15 mins later the pains became severe. So severe I was unable to drive and had to pull over until help arrived. I started to violently throw up. Despite the fact that they are not able to have us come in they are working double hard to make us happy with delivery and allowing take outs.. it's amazing and hard work to try to stay in business yet they are compromising by even opening by 4:30pm when it used to be 5:30pm for dinner.
