She was amazing, she had my wife try on her dress and Mrs Luz with a few pin ups and consultation on what exactly she would do to make the dress fit perfectly for my wife, where she would make the cuts, stitching and a few other alterations, she really made my wife feel confident the alterations would be perfect, not to mention we needed it done in less than a week. We picked the dress up 5 days later and OMG it was perfect and altered to fit my wife exactly as the dress was meant to fit. Stay away. She acts like she's doing you a favor by letting you into her shop. Very curt& short with people. Professionally?Incomplete bead work. Covered up missing areas of beads & dangling threads with the final "dry clean "paper and plastic wrap after pressing so we only noticed when we got home she hadn't finished 3 important areas of the dress. My husband and I both went in to question the job. We asked why she didn't finish the intricate beadwork that she had removed to do the alterations? This is what we had paid $650 to do! she told us the beads fell off, got lost & she didn't have enough finish. Patterns on the front side panels she left were random, what was left on either side panel didn't even match the other! Whole branches of beaded ivy missing. and you could tell on the silk, "worn areas that once had beads, that were now missing. After a long discussion, because she didn't offer to even fix it, but she gave 1/3 of our money back. ( at least I can pay someone else to "fix" the areas. Oh! Before we left she darted into the back and retrieved a baggie of the "missing beads " she DIDN'T have to finish the job! The dress was a $900 designer consignment find that my mother in law had fallen in love with , and she was excited to have it specially tailored to her. Maria kept saying "the dress is old". Well, it had been worn once before, but had been in mint condition before she got to it! I had been looking forward to a nice time spent with my mother in law to craft her a special dress that matched her eyes for her granddaughters wedding. Maybe had she let my 80 year old MIL use her restroom when she asked, ( " we don't have public restrooms" -not even a "sorry"!) , we may have had a bit more time to notice the shoddy work before leaving her shop, but needless to say we were in a bit of a timeline !She knew she covered up dangling threads and bare areas , on the most focal chest trim area, but pretty sure she thought we wouldn't even notice her cover up. I'm sure she thought we were just going to unwrap it at the wedding, day of. Thank G-d I checked it!! She kept saying "you come into my shop to insult me. "No, she insulted us by thinking she could do very mediocre incomplete work, while charging us premium prices to do so. We initially came into your shop believing all the rave reviews, with high hopes of leaving with a job done worthy of the cost. Don't believe the hype. I was generous and gave her a 2 because she did give us a partial refund. No apologies, of course. But, at least I have $ to have someone fix it. But now the hassle of that!!! read more

The Most Unprofessional Tailoring Experience Ever I really wish I had done more research before committing to this place. I was recommended here by Anthropologie in Georgetown to get my wedding dress tailored. Saw the initial reviews and decided to go there. The first visit was alright even though the appointment went over by 30 minutes. My mom and I were told that all the 3 items would be ready to try on in a month. We said ok and requested that she not throw away the left over fabric after she did her initial tailoring. A few weeks later, my mom called to confirm the appointment for both her suits and my dress. Maria Luz responded with "Clients are not supposed to be the ones confirming, it's us." To which my mom responded, "OK, but will the suits and dress be ready that day?" Maria Luz said yes. When we get there the day of the appointment, my dress is the only one that has been tailored and she said that she needed to find my mom's suits. When we asked about the left over fabric, she said she had thrown them out. The third appointment was focused on the suits. She did a terrible job with it and when my mom pointed out that some parts of the suits were not right, she responded with "You just need to know how to dress yourself". She said she would modify what was left and iron them when we would pick it up. On the last day we went to pick up the dress and suits. She wanted to give my dress in a plastic bag instead of the one it came with the dress. She replied with "Oh ok, I'll give that back to you then". The suits were also not ironed at all. When we got home to look at the dress it was horrible. There were uncompleted seams and threads sticking out. The worst part is that she sewed a part of the dress that was supposed to be detachable when I explicitly told her that I wanted to keep the option of being able to detach them on the day of my wedding. She ruined my wedding dress. I was charged a total of 1400 for this. I recommend that you avoid this place. It is beyond unprofessional, complete scam, waste of time and money. Let me just tell you about how Maria saved my wedding. This was a last minute dress I purchased because COVID happened and we moved our big celebration to 2021, but we still got married and I didn't want to wear my ball gown dress for a backyard wedding. I took my dress to a tailor as soon as I purchased it. I wanted extra material added so I didn't look naked and wanted the dress shortened. She took a WHOLE MONTH to give me the dress back and forgot to shorten it In the meantime, I managed to lose 10 lbs and when I tried the dress on 7 days before the wedding (that's when I got it back), I could put my whole fist in the chest area. I was beyond desperate. I found Maria and rushed to her atelier. In just FOUR days, she tightened the dress (mind you, it has beads), shortened it, added padding in the chest area, and steamed my dress to perfection. While Maria did a great job altering my wedding dress on the needed timeline, I am deducting two stars because she lost my wedding veil and handled the situation extremely unprofessionally. I knew for a fact that I had dropped off my veil weeks earlier to be pressed, and when I reiterated this to her, she got very defensive and tried to blame me by asserting the veil pressing hadn't been added to my claim ticket. I responded that I was never told it was my responsibility to ensure my claim ticket was updated - I had handed the veil to her, she agreed to press it, and sent me on my way. Even though I knew that I had left the veil with her, I then asked if she could at least search around the store a bit to be sure, which she emphatically refused to do, claiming that I misplaced the veil. I left the store visibly upset and so convinced that Maria was not willing to look for it that I went online and bought a new veil. The next morning, Maria called me saying she had found the veil after all... No apology, no explanation. Of course I'm relieved she found it, but will not be returning to Anytime Alterations due to the shocking lack of customer service and basic empathy. Maria tailored my wedding dress. She did a fine job but her personality and lack of good customer service made for a very jarring experience. My bridesmaids and mother all noticed it and were very uncomfortable and still talk about it to this day. Maria could be very warm and friendly sometimes and very rude and abrasive other times. I was prepared to suck it up if her tailoring was impeccable, but it was just fine. Not worth it. Like with other reviewers, Maria also tried to blame her disorganization on me. I ordered a veil with her but she never wrote it down. When I went to pick it up, she tried to gaslight it like it was my fault, when in fact she just forgot to write it down. I'd like to start by saying I highly highly recommend Anytime Alterations for several reasons that I will list below: I called today and was greeted beautifully, told I could come in today last minute, and was dealt with so gracefully. Just off of the phone call I was excited to come in and meet the women running this business. There is parking right outside the establishment and when you enter inside it's very beautifully decorated with all their huge accomplishments for customers to see. Their work speaks for itself and it's wonderful that they've received many awards and acknowledgement for it. I was then greeted by a lovely lady at the front who gave me a form, took my dress off my hands, hung it up for me in a gorgeous fitting room, and was helped every step of the way. Then the magic happened... The queen seamstress Maria took a look at my gown, complimented how beautiful it was, made me laugh so much-- but then she started to take apart the dress with everything that needed fixing. Her attention to detail was impeccable. I was so impressed as someone who is very detail oriented myself. She noticed things that were wrong with the dress that I didn't even notice. You can tell how experienced they are and that alone is comforting. I left knowing my gown was in good hands. My gown isn't made from an easy fabric either. There's a lot of work that will go into altering it which leads me to my next point... Also I'd like to note my event is in less than two weeks. Their pricing is fair. The type of work they do is excellent therefore they charge accordingly. If you want to leave your gown with someone that you know will do the job beautifully, seamlessly, and honestly then be prepared to pay an amount that matches exactly that. Maria did extensive alterations to my "wedding guest dress" - she had to take the sides in (including where there was a side zipper), take the shoulders up and adjust the arm holes, hem the skirt and lining, and adjust vertical ruffles. I found Maria and Anytime Alterations on Google. I was attending a Mardi Gras ball and needed an alteration done to my gown. I made an inquiry on the website by email and Maria quickly responded. When I first met Maria, she seemed straight forward and to the point. Someone could perceive it as being brash and unfriendly. I have to admit, I'm not used to that but it was cool. Maria's work speaks for itself. I couldn't be more proud of the alterations that were done to my gown. My gown was so big at the top that it kept falling off of my shoulders. Think twice about entrusting this establishment to handle your next alteration. I dropped off drapes to have them hemmed and was told they would be ready in 10 days. I was a little hesitant because this timeline seemed a bit long for the project. Nonetheless, I decided to move forward as I took into consideration perhaps there are other social events (prom/wedding, etc.) taking place and the volume may be higher than normal. I was given a slip which indicated the pick-up date and time which was April 27th between 11-4. After a 35 minute drive I arrive at 11:20 and present the slip for pick-up. The owner then proceeds to tell me that she has forgotten about my alteration. Wow. That's right....My drapes have been just sitting for 10 days with not a single alteration done. As a matter of fact they are still sitting in the original packaging. Then the owner proceeds to ask when do I need the drapes. Umm...today, because that is when they are scheduled for pick-up. To add insult to injury she didn't even offer to discount the price as if it's my fault the order is not ready. At this point I'm just so annoyed with the way this business operates. Clearly you should have a process in place to track items that are coming in and when they need to be ready. If you can't manage a simple project such as hemming drapes, there is no way I would entrust you with a bridal gown! I had a great experience at Anytime Alterations. The staff are knowledgeable, professional, and they care! I had two items altered, a sweater dress and a sequin dress for my cousin's wedding. The sequin dress was made by another tailor and I wasn't happy with the design. When I got there to pick it up, she was just as hostile and hadn't even pressed it. She blamed me for coming too early even though I came right in the middle of the pickup window. I really wish I could say great things because Maria is super nice and warm. However, I guess I just ended up being one if the unlucky ones. When I had my first fitting for my wedding gown, things were great! Maria really seemed like she new exactly what she was doing and what needed to be done to the dress and what could be done to the dress. She had quoted me $580 for alterations; with everything that needed it be done, I thought that was reasonable. I needed the hem done, a bustle added, and the top of my wedding gown taken in. I had my first fitting in March and I didn't go back until June. When I had my second fitting, the only thing that was done to the dress were the straps had been moved. The hem still wasn't done and neither was the bustle. I thought that was strange has it had been three months since the last time I came in. However, I'm not a seamstress so I just went with it. My next appointment was August 30th, and the day I was going to pick my dress up. When I tried it on, Maria really rushed me and had another bride standing there in her dress, which I thought was a little uncomfortable and it made me feel like I couldn't speak up because I didn't want to make a scene. Like I said, I'm not a seamstress, so I don't know what to look for. I left with my dress very unhappy. When I got home I tried my dress on again and noticed chalk marks on my hem, and that one side of my dress was about an inch or two longer than the other side. There were a bunch of gaps on the top and you could basically see my boobs. And the dress was super tight from the straps being changed. I ended up taking my dress to another place who fixed it and spending another 700 bucks. I feel like Maria needs to do more time management. If you're going to advertise that your specialty is wedding gowns, then you need to make sure you are able to alter any kind of dress. The last time I went to Maria was to have a bridesmaid dress altered and zippers added to make it nursing friendly. I was in the wedding so I was in the dress all day, and had my son, so it was great to be able to quickly nurse him. During my first appointment, I expressed how I was really unhappy because there was bulging fabric in the front and she said there was nothing she could do. She showed zero care. Worst experience I've ever had. Maria was incredibly rude, unhelpful, and very unprofessional. I called on a Wednesday asking if she could take in a bridesmaids dress in two weeks. Over the phone, she assured me that she could, and told me to bring in my dress the following day between 11-2. I asked for a quote, but she said she couldn't quote me without seeing the dress (understandable). I arrived the following day at 12:30, and the store was closed until 1. Having already driven 15 minutes, I sat and waited 30 minutes for the store to open. When I went in, Maria asked me to try my dress on. At the advice of the bridal store, I had ordered my bridesmaids dress in a size that was quite large at my bust and waist so that it would properly fit around my butt. The bust and waist were visibly too large with several inches of room. When I came out of the dressing room, the first thing Maria said to me was "Your dress is too small!" I was not only taken aback, but also confused as to why she was saying that a dress that was visibly too large, was in fact too small. I tried to get an explanation, but she was very harsh and rude. I asked if she could take the dress in anyways - she pinned the dress at the waist and the bust still had several inches of room. I had to ask multiple times for her to pin the bust as well, but she kept saying 'it doesn't look too big' - even though there was a two inch gap between the dress and my body. She then asked when I needed the dress by, and I told her the same date that I told her the day before and she agreed to. Her response was 'Oh boy, you're in trouble! It's too late.' She then quoted me TWO HUNDRED dollars to take my dress in at the waist and bust. After the rudeness, unprofessionalism, and exorbitant price, I took my dress elsewhere. They said nothing about the dress being too small, took it in at the waist and bust, charged me $70, and did a beautiful job. I will definitely never be coming back here. read more

Overall I'm completely happy with my experience with Anytime Alterations. Parking. There was ample parking in the front of The boutique. I never had an issue finding a parking spot. Fitting. I ordered my dress online a few months ago and I lost a lot of weight between making my order and getting it fitted. I looked short stumpy and fat before she got started. At the first fitting she listened to what I want and made suggestions. She was very honest about everything. I told her I still wanted to lose more weight and she built additional time into prepping the dress. My dress had a lot of intricate pleating. It also had a sort of gathering that would go from looking Amazing to looking bad fast. She fixed everything. I mean everything. She also helped me to pack my dress appropriately so it wouldn't wrinkle. I wound up looking amazing on my wedding. She is a magician. Seriously. I always dreamed of wearing the wedding dress that both my mother and grandmother wore. Purchased in the 1920s, it's a thick satin. It also incorporated custom beadwork from my mom's childhood neighbor who tailored the dress for her. My grandmother was a modelesque 5'10, my mom 5'5 with a large chest, and me standing at 5'3 with a B cup. Needless to say, we are very different sizes. Oh, and no one had ever preserved the dress properly. The fabric was aged and brass all over, including the beadwork. Marie and I have had two appointments so far. In that time, she has restored the dress to a beautiful ivory color that matches my shoes and worked through every one of my requests. My wedding dreams wouldn't be possible without her. I never write reviews, mostly because I have no issues with the service I receive at the places I go. This place is the only exception I have experienced in my 10+ years of being on Yelp. I took two throw pillows in to have the owner put zippers on for an agreed upon $38. Maria, the owner, mentioned she was in the middle of wedding season, yet she gave me a quote to complete the job in two weeks. I returned today with my receipt in hand thinking my $38 was put to good use with an established alteration business. Maria asked for $76 stating the price of $38 was for one pillow. The receipt clearly stated $38 for the completion of 2 pillows! I told her I drove 20 minutes to her shop and could've had both done 2 minutes from my house for $40. So lesson learned and what gives? The fact that she couldn't accept being wrong and, instead belittled me with "you couldn't have done it yourself" got me infuriated. I told her I would never return and she screamed "I am not a liar!" to which I would agree if she would've followed what she put on paper, a total of $38 for 2 pillows. This place is so expensive for zero reason. Fine job but I definitely, definitely recommend finding somewhere else. I don't live in the area and was on a time crunch so just went with it but definitely wish I had spent more time searching. $120 for simple simple alterations to a bridesmaid dress and my fellow bridesmaids who went to other tailors paid $75 for the same alterations.
