My daughter pointed out that when they made suggestions, it was along the lines of what she said she liked. They really listened and did their very best to find a special dress. She is a one woman show and her mentality was that she knew best , and even had napkins on the table that said "Pamela knows best".... The person I dealt with was cool, she actually worked with me a lot on finding a good dress. Unfortunately I just didn't find the one for me here. I would say my review is on the neutral side. These dresses are off the rack only, so they won't order any new unworn dresses for you... what you try on is what you take home. With THAT being said, the prices are definitely TOO expensive for an off the rack, at least for the name to be an accurate representation. I've gone to a couple other boutiques and if I were to get off the rack from them it would be at least a few hundred dollars less. I would however consider getting alterations done here, as their prices for alterations are pretty reasonable. read more

My experience here was mediocre. The owner, Pamela, is not shy about giving her opinions. Some May like this, others not. I didn't love the fact that she insisted on being in the dressing room with me in nothing but my underwear. No other place has required this sort of intimate involvement, so just be forewarned of this practice and her unsolicited opinions...they're not for everyone! The dresses are overpriced for being sample gowns. The other boutiques I visited had samples ranging from $300-$1000. So if you are looking for a bargain this place might not be the right spot for you. As I understand it, Pamela buys her dresses as samples from other shops and then marks them up. Fair enough, i get she needs to make a profit and clearly this place has more sample gowns to choose from than anywhere else in the DMV. But when she asked my budget, and I told her under $1000, she said it wouldn't happen there. She has nothing for under $1100. So I basically treated the experience as an option to try on some different styles and figure out silhouettes, necklines, etc. I liked. I found a dress I liked but not more than some others I found for better prices elsewhere. read more

I could not recommend a better place to find your dress. For a size 16-18, the selection was beautiful and Pamela and her team were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They have unique dresses that were unlike anything I had tried on elsewhere in the same price point. I was initially disappointed that the prices start at $1000 but once I saw the selection, my opinion changed. These are impeccable sample dresses with structure and beautiful beading, lace, embroidery, etc. At other stores, the same dresses would have been more expensive by $500-$1000 at least. I tried three other bridal stores who barely had inventory at less than $2000 and what inventory they did have was nothing compared to the quality or detail at SYFL. I see a lot of reviews on here that say you can find less expensive samples elsewhere. From my experience, that is simply untrue considering the samples at other stores are on sale for a reason. At a traditional store, samples gowns are listed for sale after their condition has deteriorated from being tried on hundreds of times. At SYFL you are paying for a NEW gown off of the rack. Although I did not ask, I would speculate that Pamela needs to be in the dressing room to help you get into the dress to prevent any damage to the dresses. If the dress is damaged during the try on process, it can no longer be sold. If you are looking for the cheapest possible option this is not your store, you are better off finding a dress online; however, if you are looking for all of the grandeur and quality of a dream wedding gown at a more affordable price, Say Yes for Less is the perfect place to find your gown! I had high hopes for Say Yes for Less and was definitely let down. SYfL was my last stop of the day so I had a pretty good idea of the styles I liked. I walked in, and saw that they had a lot of dresses so I was really excited! At every fitting I had been to earlier in the day, I had been a size 18. When I told them my size, they guided me to a small corner of the boutique and I was told these were the only ones in my size. I did find several that I liked so that was okay. When we got to the dressing room, I couldn't even get the size 18s over my hips! They let this go on for about 3 dresses, and then abruptly took all the other dresses out of the room and told me we'd have to go up in size. Well, they had 2, only 2, dresses in a size larger than 18. Basically no selection. And I didn't like either of the dresses, but the sales person was very pushy that I should like them, as other reviews have mentioned. Overall, I just did not have a good time here. The vibe wasn't welcoming, the sales people weren't super friendly, I felt pushed to feel comfortable getting almost naked in front of my sales person (whereas every other place was sure to ask if I was comfortable with them helping me change), I felt pushed to like the dresses. I found my total dream dress here, even though I wasn't totally sure in advance what my total dream dress would look like. But I knew it when I put it on. And Pamela, the owner, is a total dream to work with. She's got a sharp eye, and is warm and kind but also utterly honest about what she thinks works for you or doesn't. She also totally went the extra mile in helping me figure out my hair pieces and veil. Everybody else who worked in the shop was also a delight. You owe it to yourself to see if Say Yes For Less has something you love in your size; it's a sample shop. I loved that because I knew exactly what I'd be getting and didn't have to worry about how long it would take to order, etc. And it was such a pleasant surprise to find a perfect dress that fit me off the rack at the second place I tried!!! read more

I visited Say Yes for Less recently with my mom to shop for a wedding gown. The store is tucked away in an office building and a little difficult to find, but the interior of the store itself was well-designed and maintained. We were greeted by an associate shortly after arriving, who was friendly and unassuming. Dresses were displayed on racks in bags, so they were often difficult to get a good idea of prior to taking out and trying on. After going through some of the dresses, the owner, Pamela, stepped out and introduced herself. She was friendly and got right down to what I was looking for. She knew I had an incredibly ambitious budget and offered to cut her prices to somewhere in the middle of our price points if we found something we loved. Off to a great start! At the time, I was still looking to figure out what kind of cut, etc. I wanted, but knew that I wanted a more traditional white or ivory, nothing form-fitting, and minimal bling. I pulled a few gowns I was interested in and Pamela also pulled some she thought would work. We had probably 5-6 total and started trying them on in the spacious dressing room, with both the associate and Pamela helping me into the dresses. We tried a few and nothing was really hitting me. Pamela made quite a few comments on my figure (I've been overweight my whole life and lost 50 lbs in the not-too-distant past; I'm still very self-conscious of my body and still learning how it's changed and so on) and how I should want to show it off and how cute it was (genuine or an attempt to make me feel good in a gown and buy it? Who knows.). One gown was quite fitted and while it looked nice, it just wasn't me. Pamela insisted it was a great look for me and seemed reluctant to move onto something else, having me look in different lighting (in front of a group of other women at a table -- I'm not sure what they were doing and while it was flattering that they seemed to have a positive opinion of the dress, it was also a little violating to have these strangers involved in the process), with a veil, and with a few other adjustments. When we finally moved onto something else, Pamela's enthusiasm had dropped significantly and she let her frustration with me show, albeit in a sugarcoated way. Ultimately she suggested I go to Fairytale Brides on a Shoestring nearby (she emphasized "on a Shoestring," seemingly with a bit of judgment though I'd acknowledged my budget was incredibly ambitious and I was flexible for the right dress). The final few dresses still didn't feel quite right to me and, by the end, Pamela had disappeared abruptly. We were not offered a chance to look through other gowns and were essentially showed the door. The associate seemed a little embarrassed/chastised or something and we left. It took a bit for the whole experience to sink in, but by the time we got to lunch, I was in tears. Overall, we got the sense that Pamela had a specific vision in mind and acted as if her vision was superior to what I knew I wanted and didn't want. While I was willing to try different things because I don't consider myself to be very knowledgeable about styling (let alone wedding gown styling), it was humiliating to have my feelings and opinions dismissed when I felt certain whatever wasn't working for me or I felt uncomfortable. I'm amazed I got out without being pressured into something I didn't want. And frankly, while the gowns are discounted, I wouldn't necessarily agree that they are discounted to the extent the marketing suggests. Gowns at Say Yes for Less's price points are available (particularly as samples) at many other locations, including David's Bridal (which Pamela bashed via asking about my experience there, noting that she understood them to be "outdated" -- irrelevant, in my opinion, as we all have our own styles and some of us don't necessarily want the latest but a classic). Came in for an appointment and when I arrived the owner who was my consultant asked what style I liked and if I could show her pictures. I said I wanted something with an open low back. She said "Low back? Oh honey I won't let you do that to yourself, that dress is right by your butt line." I said that maybe not something that low but wanted a nice design in the back. Throughout the entire appointment she kept saying "I hate it when brides ask for backs, is not like you're getting married facing backwards..." "Those type of dresses only look good in models." I should've walked out by this point, but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and let her show me other dresses that would look good on me. She had us grab a few dresses, my friend picked 3, I picked 3, and the consultant picked 5. Guess which ones I got to try on? Only the ones that the consultant picked! I didn't get to try any of the ones I wanted, zero, NONE! I felt I had no control of the appointment. One of the dresses she put me on was double my budget, I asked why she made me try it, she said it was just so I could see what "those expensive dresses look like. If you up your budget a bit it will be a lot easier to find you something" She kept putting me on other princess gowns, even though I had told her I wanted mermaid or fit and flare. She then put me on another dress that fit me perfectly, and made this whole bid deal saying this was THE dress. Despite fitting me well, I was sure it was definitely NOT the dress. Who's the bride here?! We ended up finishing the appointment without much luck, I was irritated by the whole experience, and her trying to steer me away from my dream dress trashing it with her comments. Also no pictures are allowed! which I find it to be an odd and stupid rule. Pros: -Her mom was super sweet and really helped assisting her. -The quality of the selection was better than I expected. -For petite brides like myself, this is a good store because they carry XS sizes 2, 4, etc that most bridal shops don't carry off the rack. read more

I had a wonderful experience here. This was my second stop after I struck out at a DC boutique where I thought I'd find the one. The stylist there recommended this place and I was able to get a same day appointment. So thankful for the recommendation! My mom and I were greeted warmly and I was free to roam the aisles of their selections to choose what I would like to try on. The stylist and her daughter pulled a few for me as well. We moved between dresses quickly, but it also helped me make quick decisions and rely on a gut feeling about each dress. At the end of my appointment, I happily walked away with a dress. The prices may be discounted but the service is top drawer! I went with my daughter a year ago to purchase a dress and the experience was fabulous. We were able to freely browse through hundreds of gowns, yet it was Pam's insightful expertise that helped us narrow it down to the perfect dress. Of course COVID delayed the wedding so it was a year before going back for alterations. Once again, the experience and attention to detail shown by Pam and the seamstress made the difference between a beautiful dress and one that looked custom made just for the bride. The first dress she picked up wound up being the dress I walked out the door with. It was absolutely perfect for what I wanted and for my body type. BEYOND BEST EXPERIENCE!! There are a lot of places to go to choose your wedding dress-- the main differences between different stores are: prices and customer service. Pamela and her mom Hannelore are AMAZING! In terms of pricing: they simply cannot be beaten. They get brand new sample dresses which enables them to offer gorgeous dresses for considerably less than you will find them anywhere else. The first time I tried on a wedding dress was at their store. I was about a size 18, and terrified that it would be similar to my experience with trying on Bat Mitzvah dresses. (I developed early and when I went to a specialty store, the women made me (a 12 year old!) feel fat and self conscious.) Well, I have to say that I was beyond pleasantly surprised by the way I was treated. Pamela pulled dresses in my size and some that were smaller, and some that were bigger. Not only was she lovely, she made the experience FUN! She made me feel like a princess who deserves to find the most beautiful dress! She had endless patience for me, was amazingly kind, and it is easy to see that she loves what she does! I fell in love with two dresses-- they have such an amazing selection! My mom had scheduled another appointment at another nearby shop. The customer service was lacking and the saleswoman made me feel large. But I found a dress there that I loved and bought it. I called Pamela to thank her for her time and amazing customer service. Instead of sounding disappointed (which would have been fair considering how much time she spent with me,) she said: "As long as you found something that you love and feel good in, I am so happy for you!" I could tell that she meant it too! Meanwhile, we made the (worst) decision to use a private seamstress so we didn't have to travel back and forth to Virginia. On the Monday night before my wedding (which is this Sunday,) we realized that we had to just take the dress back and find someone who knew what they were doing. My dress was seriously botched. On Tuesday, I called Pamela (who is now conveniently located in Cabin John Shopping Mall,) and told her what had happened. I honestly wasn't sure if she remembered me, but she told me to come on in and she would see how she could help. The women saw the dress and realized it needed a lot of work. They gave me a very reasonable price to repair the dress and told me that I could come back to try it on on Friday... only to get a phone call from them on Thursday morning saying: "We had the seamstress come in early and she is just finishing up your dress. We really didn't want you to feel panicked until the Friday before your wedding. Would you like to come in today to try it on/pick it up?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Who ARE these people? How can they be THIS NICE? I went in and when I tried the dress on, it fit like a glove. They essentially took the dress apart, put boning back in it, corrected the seams, and rebuilt the dress again. To be honest, when I tried on the botched dress on Monday, I tried to keep things in perspective- I'm marrying an amazing man, so what if the dress doesn't look perfect? When I went in to try on the 'new' dress, I started crying. It was beautiful! I didn't realize how upset I had been until the moment that I saw how amazing the dress could look. When my mom asked who to make the check out to for the work, they had her write it directly to the seamstress! These women hustled to make things happen and didn't make a dime off of their hard work. I wound up buying an undergarment for my dress, but that was it. I am sure that they would have helped/will help anyone in a similar situation. It is rare to find people who are such gems. They are honest, genuinely care, and will provide you with the most phenomenal customer service EVER! These women will not let you leave until you are completely happy! I do not have the words to properly express my gratitude! But I will say that it is now Friday and I am as relaxed as I can be. Instead of spending yesterday and today continuing to worry about my dress, I got to sit down with a huge smile on my face and rave about these amazing women. I will always remember how they swooped in and literally saved the day! It is people like this who deserve to do well in business. I certainly hope that anyone looking for a great dress (in small or larger sizes) gets to experience working with these women-- they are the best in the business!! read more

I went in really not knowing what I was looking for and they had WONDERFUL suggestions about what would work best for my body type and would go with our wedding vibe. This place is amazing! I got engaged in May 2019 and we decided to get married in September 2019 - which is basically in violation of all wedding planning rules. So I had to go find a dress without the time to order...and wait 4 months...and get fitted an absurd number of times. My dad - yes, my dad! - did some research for me and found this place. I almost said no because of some of the reviews and am I SO HAPPY I went anyway!! Don't listen to the nay-sayers! This is a gorgeous place with a fantastic inventory. It feels like a high end bridal boutique but all dresses are samples. You literally get to leave with your dress! Yes! In a gorgeous garment bag, btw! The experience I had here with my mom was a 10 out of 10. We walked in and were greeted by Pamela but we worked with Hillary. Ask for Hillary, people! Just do it. You won't regret it. She was so positive and reassuring and open and patient and she had an eye for what I wanted. She was everything! I got to get the full experience and joy of shopping for a dress with my mom in a beautiful store but I didn't have the deal with the hassles of this crazy bridal industry. The fitting rooms were beautiful and felt luxurious. There is also a seamstress on staff so I'll be returning in July to get fitted - ONCE. I can't say enough positive things. This was a disappointing experience. The staff members did not help us find dresses at all. In fact, one of the staff members told me they were going to "put me to work" to help my friend in the dressing room put on the dresses (mind you - both me and the bride felt like we had no idea what we were doing). Second of all, when we found a dress we were considering I went to grab my phone to take pictures of it and the salesmen told me to put my phone away and that we were not allowed to take pictures. I said yes for less yesterday! I loved the fact that the bride (and entourage) get to sift through all of the available dresses and pull only the ones they like. I am a picky bride and this made the appointment much more streamlined. I happened to be in town looking for something and called and got in on the same day which was great! When i got there, there were only a few dresses that were in my size. there were a lot of dresses in the store but due to me being a little chubby and petite, there are not much options. I felt very rushed to try on dresses and make a decision whether or not i like it.
