Dressing area

I had mostly a very positive experience buying my wedding dress here in January. Luckily I wasn't looking for a super luxurious experience, because you won't find that here. In the process to make an appointment, they have you list several dresses you're interested in trying on, but I'm not sure what the point of that was as when we arrived they didn't have that information on hand. After walking around and picking out the dresses I liked, we had to wait for about 45 minutes before I could go to the dressing room (still unsure why). Then, they gave my friends and I cans of champagne as I tried on dresses (we luckily brought our own bottle). The dressing rooms made me a little nervous as they are just curtains and I felt like people could see through the gaps on the sides. Lastly, on their website they advertise a plus size selection. I am a size 14-16 and was only given their smaller sized dresses, which would have been fine with me if they had a better system for fitting bigger girls into smaller dresses. I've heard of so many methods people use to make a smaller dress look right when you try it on but they just did not do that. Overall I ended up finding the dress of my dreams and I still recommend anthro to people

BHLDN is in the basement of the Anthropologie in Georgetown. I went there with my bridesmaids to look at dress options and thought it was much better than the other shops in the area. Most shops offer samples to try on and want to clip you into every dress, but it's really challenging to see how a dress looks and feels, and then you have to guess the size and hope a tailor can make it look right. BHLDN has lots of options to try on, and it's a relaxed shopping environment.

I don't know what BHLDN is like on a weekend, but I can say that shopping on a weekday was amazing.

Buying my dress from Carine's was the WORST mistake of my entire wedding process. **Their communication is terrible.** I had to chase them down to find out where my dress was, and it turned out they had forgotten about it until I reached out. **They do not take responsibility for delays.** Even though they forgot to send my dress and caused the delay, they refused to overnight it unless I paid extra--despite the $600 I had already spent on shipping. **They left me scrambling last minute for alterations.** I received my dress only TWO WEEKS before my wedding, forcing me to pay double for rush alterations in California where I live. There's A LOT MORE I could say about other shady things they did to me beyond what I've listed above, but I'll refrain. Bottom line: Carine's turned what should have been a joyful experience into an expensive, high-stress nightmare.

Carine's Bridal is the epitome of a bespoke customer experience. At Carine's we felt celebrated, embraced, and unhurried. We were clearly in expert hands, yet it felt warm and family-like. Carine was in the store the day we first shopped and her relaxed, easy manner clearly sets the tone. We were lucky enough to have Grace as our guide. (I can't call her a salesperson-- it felt like we had an experienced guide.) She showed us gown after gown with no pressure whatsoever. None of the "let's put a veil on you!" No relentless questioning: "Is this the one?" I felt like we were in a special place, but after visiting other shops in DC, New York and Boca Raton, Florida, I am convinced. I can assure you --Carine's is different. It is bespoke-- the experience is personal and crafted for the bride. We were so at ease. So cared for. I cannot imagine how it could have been a more relaxing, informative, and joy-filled experience. Lastly, the atelier is absolutely gorgeous. Think French salon. I did the homework for you-- the finest, by far, is Carine's. (No I had never met her. No, I don't even live in D.C.)

I checked in periodically as my estimated date of arrival came and went with 0 communication. I initiated communication at least a dozen times to request an update on the status of my gown. The Lovely team did not respond to the majority of my outreach. When they did, their responses were at best terse, and at worst rude, jaded, or in an attempt to gaslight or play the blame game for the delay. They repeatedly stated they had "no control" over the status of my dress. At one point I received an email that my dress was in production and on its way. At their direction, I scheduled a pick up appointment, and received no further update that my dress had arrived until a text received at 10:30 PM the night before my appointment stating my dress was actually not in. I had booked a train to DC to pick my dress up for this as I live out of town. The next day (after I called, emailed, and texted several times with no response), I finally received a call that new management was taking over Lovely DC. I was also informed that my dress was actually not on its way and in fact, they had no idea if it was produced yet or not. Therefore I have an email with a Lovely employee directly lying to me about my dress. Luckily the new management does seem to be improving things as I finally have my dress after months of this back and forth, and with only about 3 weeks to do alterations before my wedding. I do feel terribly for other brides in this position whose dresses are still lost, were never ordered, or worse, who received dresses that were not at all what they ordered but had no choice but to accept the dress due to time constraints. Overall, there are significant issues that need to be addressed at Lovely DC and I can only speculate about what might have been going on with the prior management to scam brides out of their dresses. I absolutely do NOT recommend buying a dress here - it is too important to risk being in the same shoes as me or other recent brides with similar stories!
