New to town and came here because they let us bring in our Bloodhound, Miss Ashley ( it's 104 degrees outside today ). The pretzel tray and the chicken nachos were excellent. The beer really hit the spot, and the wait staff were very nice and on the ball. Gave us some good tips on fun things to do in and around Pittsburg. Overall a good experience. Sammy Jo is fun! I had no idea this area had a brewery! Thank goodness we saw an advertisement along the road. I read the reviews only after I had been. I was really disappointed that there are some negative ones, based mainly on the FOOD and not the BEER!! This place is a brewery. The star of the show is BEER, not food! Good food always helps. I didn't try the food, so I can not vouch for it. The brewery itself is pretty spacious. They have an outdoor area, a large bar area, and a pool table/game area with TVs. They have a lot of tables and chairs throughout. As for the beer...it was well crafted and delicious! The owner is clearly very passionate about what he does and it shows. There is so much work that goes into making a great craft beer and he knows what it takes. We came during winter time so we tried all the fall and seasonal beers. I had several samples before picking. The peanut butter beer was my favorite. For a non liker of IPAs, they have a really good one. It has the IPA taste, without the bitterness. Overall, this brewery was a pleasant and unexpected find in the Pittsburg area. If you are into the craft beer scene, this place is a must try. We will for sure be back, with our growler! read more

This place has a pretty cool vibe and the food is pretty good. The portion size was large for what we ordered. I got the chicken nachos and my husband got brisket nachos. We had already ordered the pork rinds. We had no idea these would come on such large platters. So be careful and don't over order. That will save you some money. The service was good. Ate here on October 21, 2022, Friday night, very quiet for a Friday evening. Pretty cool aesthetic, very rustic, and bar feeling but still inviting. I ate the brisket mac & cheese and my wife had the Texas barbecue burger. Both were excellent and very satisfying. I drank the double IPA from the brewery and it was excellent. Wife had the old fashion and it was OK she says. Meal came to $50 for the two of us, Which included three drinks. Overall a pretty nice experience and will definitely come back. read more

I'm not much of a burger or fries kinda person. When I was here the first time I decided that I wanted to try this place another time or two. I ordered an appetizer. Fried Zucchini Sticks. They were okay. The ranch dressing was so watered down that it was as thin as water. It was thin last time but I believe it was thinner today. I like at least a medium consistency to my ranch. If the dressing is going to be that thin, I'll likely start passing on the appetizers because the ones I like I eat with ranch. I ordered the Patty Melt again. I ordered it medium rare. It was a bit undercooked. More on the rare side but I waited a while and I was hungry so I didn't say anything. The last time I was here, one was cooked perfectly while the other was undercooked. I may have to start saying medium to get medium rare. Though, so far, the Patty Melt is my favorite. My other order was a Fried Green Tomato BLT. It was good and had a spicy sauce that gave it a kick. The bacon was so thin that I couldn't taste it. I had them only give me one small serving of fries and then I didn't eat them. I mentioned it to the waitress that I really don't eat fries but wasn't told any substitutions. The waitress was nice. Though my pet peeve is to be asked if I want or need change back. I cannot stand that. I will give a tip in the amount that I want to give. Don't ask if I need change especially when the tip is about the cost of my meal. The service was okay, I've had better and I've had worse. Today was better than my first experience. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would! We ordered a WELL done steak and received a rare steak. The person in charge came to our table and ask what was wrong and we let them know. The steak wasn't done which took 40 minutes to cook. We told her no we didn't want it because it had already been a long time. She then told us there wasn't anything she could do with it. Never took a bite of it and didn't seem to care if we were happy or not. This is sad ....This is poor service and not caring about the customer. We ended up leaving everything but 71.57 for nothing! The feed barn thing is cool. Waitstafff was lost in the sauce. The cider on tap was out so he brought a tropical fruit angry orchard or something which was not at all what we were looking for...and a red ale that was warm which when he dropped it off was literally half foam and said "sorry it's a little foamy". $6 for a glass of warm foam did not hit the spot. We ordered some chips and guacamole just to not be rude taking up space, but even that was just chopped up avocado and 10 chips for $9.50. Disappointed cause we want to like the small town stuff...it's why we moved here. I am gonna keep my review short. I heard a lot of great things about this new restaurant in town and I am gonna hope our service and meals was just one time event. The menu items look great. The food however was a different story. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. When you think of this you think or imagine a Large piece of fried chicken served over a freshly made waffle. Mmm this is not the case here. It was a deep fried chicken pattie. I don't think it's something they actually make from scratch (what you would expect of a Pre-Frozen chicken pattie. The waffle is am not sure if it a prefrozen then deep fried or they make it and then deep fried. Either case, it was not what I found tasty. I can't speak for anyone else just not into a deep fried waffle. My husband ordered the 16 oz bone in Ribeye, only way to eat this and that is Rare- MR. my husband ordered MR. Our friends and my self food came 30 min later (it wasn't busy at all) and my husbands came 1 hour later. Apparently another waiter gave his steak to someone else??? So our waiter apologized multiple times. I think at this point it was clear the owner/managers were aware but they didn't (or I think it would have been nice) for them to stop by table and say something. Now what this place lacks in food preparation they make up in the entertainment for the evening hang out on the weekends. They have scheduled several bands. I am assuming this is all county music. That would be the favorable music for our area. I am hoping that we just came on the wrong day (Thursday) and this is not the norm for their food and service. I am sure I will try it again and I am certainly interested to coming and listening to the music. Seems fun! read more

BUYER BEWARE! We were visiting from out of town and decided to eat at Anvil Brewing. We arrived at around 1 p.m., the place was empty except for one other table. I ordered the tuna melt and was told they were out of tuna. They have 2 items on their menu where tuna is the main protein. I had driven from over 35 miles to eat here and NO tuna. I ordered a patty melt and my husband ordered the reuben. The review by Ghost gave the Reuben great raves, stating it wasn't soggy, but ours were extremely soggy and the meat was tasteless, it had to be a frozen patty when put on the grill. I salted and peppered it trying to add flavor but to no avail. I had a total of two small bites, then called the waitress over to let her know the sandwiches weren't any good and she offered to take them away. No manager came over to our table to see what was wrong, No "can we make you something else" No Nothing except the waitress with our bill for the total amount. When I asked her if she expected me to pay the total amount she got embarrassed, walked over to the open door into the kitchen and said "do you want to come tell her". The owner came over with an attitude. I explained to him the sandwiches were not any good i.e. tastless meat, really soggy bread and I don't believe the patty melt was served on rye bread as stated on the menu (must have been out of that too) and my dismay about not having tuna. Brookshires is about two miles away from this restaurant and they could have made a stop there before opening so they would be able to provide customers with good service, but this owner chose not to. He said I called him lazy, which I did not, but since he brought it up, if the shoe fits. Just before we ordered he left the premises and came back with a brookshires bag with white styrofoam wrapped in clear wrap, so he went shopping, probably bought a steak for himself. He told me he wasn't " running a charity". I didn't go there looking for a handout, I went to buy a good lunch. I told him we would be glad to pay for the french fries, tea and beer. He told me "you can give me a bad a review but you're going to pay for this lunch". I was forced to pay for half the tab even though we only had two bites. I left this establishment feeling as if I had been ASSAULTED. I don't know if he doesn't like senior citizens or if he is just a very poor example of an business owner in the hospitality industry (hospitality being the key word here). This owner stands for everything wrong in this world today! We left and went to another restaurant in the area and had an enjoyable lunch. It's nice to know that Byron or Byram does not represent the people of Pittsburg. He is a one-off. I was talking with customers there and none of them had anything good to say about this restaurant or owner. One stated, "I don't know what Byron or Byram is doing, I won't go there anymore". I don't give it any stars but I had to click at least one star to write this review. I also believe the other reviews listed here were written by the owner himself and his staff. FYI, there is a sign on the door stating to " remove masks before entering ". I believe if you want to wear a mask you should be able to do so. After all, you are paying just to enter the door here! Should you not heed my warning and go there, call first to be sure they are still open. We went at lunchtime on Friday, which was also a Holiday and the place was empty. After the meal we had (if you can call it that) it probably won't be long until it is closed. read more

SUPPOSEDLY. 110-120 people had reservations which was a laughable statement in itself... our table of 13-14 people waited 2 1/2 - 3 hrs for our food. We arrived at 7:22 p.m. and left at 10:30pm. Some of us without ever receiving our food or our order was wrong..... While I understand it is a little extra busy on a night like that. If you don't have the manpower to support the demand. Accept reservations only or atleast inform walk in groups of the delay. Don't let us sit and wait for our food for 3 hrs (while continuing to say it's coming) and expect everybody to be pleased with their order that (was wrong for the majority). If I had to put the blame anywhere in this case it would be on management to ownership... absolutely set their crew up for absolute failure and it sucked to watch it happen... We enjoyed the most delicious reuben sandwiches and one was vegetarian! The Creme Brûlée Stout was fabulous and smooth, much better than Guinness on tap. Even a non-beer drinker loved it! The owner visited with us, as did our server and the chef told us about the vegetarian recipe being a recipe she brought from her home town in Connecticut. One of our favorite spots when we are out here. We haven't had anything that was not good. Their beer cheese is to die for Our typical go to are the Pretzels and a burger. Used to be great place Cook in the kitchen needs to go back to culinary school! Brisket Mac cheese was dry with hardly any creamy cheese (looked like used shredded cheese and they just microwaved everything together) for far too long! Ribeye was tasteless (definitely could use SOME kind of spices)! Mashed potatoes were tasteless as well and served extremely cold! Our steak was given away also so it took another 45 minutes to get our food! The only thing that's great is the pretzel appetizer! Wonderful experience overall. The owners are very friendly and genuinely care about bringing a social gathering place for Pittsburg Texas. The old feed and seed building was practically falling apart but the jack of all trades owner and his family restored it, but still keeping its original time period feel. Ok, so I rarely review places because I'm just lazy. The few times I do write one it's because I feel compelled to do so for a couple of reasons. This is one of those times. I wandered in tonight after out hiking with my dog for the day and asked if ok to have him sit outside with me. Betty said of course and immediately brought him a bowl of water. Great start. Over the next few hours I had about as much fun at a restaurant as I've had in a really long time. Kristin, the owner, her mom Betty (visiting from out of town), the aforementioned server Betty and Sarah and I just had a great time bs'ing and laughing. Got the Reuben for dinner with their homemade potato salad (best ever) and could not have been happier. Their homemade ESB on tap just fabulous. They had live music going which was great and the overall feel of the place is perfect. We are super lucky to have this kind of bar/restaurant in Pittsburg TX that is run by such awesome people. Anvil Brewing has some great beers. This is a small town so I don't think they get the credit they deserve. The food is decent and the staff is pleasant. Byron- the owner is friendly and more intelligent than the area if you get a chance to have a conversation with him. Holly is friendly and attentive. Love the beer, food was OK. Great beers by Anvil, and they are proud of them at $7 per pint. Had the steak special which was not a bad deal at $20, but came with frozen curly fries and a mixed greens salad - not quite the "potatoes and seasonal veggies" as advertised. Steak was decent enough and cooked to order, but was bland and did not appear to have any seasoning. Could have used some salt/pepper rub if nothing else. They have some beers in primary fermentation that look especially appealing, so I look forward to coming back when they're ready. read more

My wife and I have been to the Anvil three times now. Each time we had a great experience. Food was good to excellent. First visit we just had a couple of beers and some onion rings. The second visit we shared a Ruben sandwich. We asked if they could split the sandwich and only put sour kraut on one half. They were very accommodating and did so with no problem. This last time (yesterday) we split their Outlaw burger. They not only split the burger for us they added a second serving of the potato salad with no additional cost. Both sandwiches we're excellent. Ruben was as good as I have ever had and the burger was better than I think I have ever had. Onion rings were great, appear to be hand cut and cooked to order. Only disappointment we have had were the fried dill pickles. Properly fried with a nice batter but not very "dilly." Pretty nice selection of their in house beer along with large selection of other Texas brewed beer in cans and bottles. Of course they also have all the usual domestic favorites. Best part of the story is the staff. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items and beers. Owners are always around checking on customers and making sure everyone is properly cared for. They create a casual and warm atmosphere that seems to bleed over into the patrons. Everyone talks to each other like we are all old friends. This will be a regular haunt for us read more

Was not impressed with this place. One thing is they allow cats in there which is nasty. The bartenders did not fill pint classes up with full pours. Thought it was just the first bartender not knowing how to pour a beer but then I tested it out and ordered from another one and same thing. Not sure if this is something being taught to them or not but definitely not great practice. Food service was sooooo slow and even when we walked in the workers said "hey it's going to be slow". 15 min went by and still no server came to the table. Was our first visit, so hate to be to critIcal, unfortunately it was not a good first impression. When I enter a restaurant for the first time it's all about, "customer service". So to be precise, 28 minutes for our drinks, 36 minutes for chips, and ((56)) minutes, that's right ((56)) for a ((cold bowl)) of mack&cheese for my grandson. The cheese was one size fits all, it was horrible, I'd call it carnival cheese out of a big can !! Was NOT a good first impression. And I get it no one wants to work, but this place had five table occupied!! Will NOT be back. If you just plan on hanging out for a beer or two, than ok. If your hungry for dinner, not recommend.
