I ordered beef enchiladas dinner with the 3 enchiladas on the plate because it had been good in my past 2 visits but the last time they came out with very little beef which was really disappointing I couldn't recommend this restaurant until this is corrected the meat was so sparse it didn't have any taste maybe they should ask if you want meat in the enchiladas. Maybe is a yes and no answer. I do like the food here. It's more TexMex vs authentic. I go between here & a more authentic restaurant. FOOD - Cheese and/or Chicken enchiladas, but they've gotten really small as of late. I also like the Chicken Fajita Chimichanga. Those are my go-to, I don't stray too far away from them. The Mexican Shrimp Cocktail is also delicious. My issue is that this place will nickel and dime you on anything extra. You get 1-3 jalapeños on the enchiladas and just want 3-4 more. Not asking for much. Bam! Hit with about an extra dollar so more charge for a dessert bowl of about 9-12 more. They'll also add that extra 3% for a debit or credit card so bring cash, preferably. (Yes I know other places do too, but I haven't been to very many that do). Just be aware that they'll charge extra for the smallest things, but don't comp you if you prefer something not to be on your order. Just get it and take it off yourself. You're paying for it. SERVICE - Hit and miss. 50/50. Good or terrible. Though in 4 years I've had a gem of a waitstaff about 2 times and they definitely benefited from it. PRICE - Meh.. We went back to eat at Papa's, hadn't been there in a while, now I remember why. I had to order rice as an extra, because it doesn't come as part as the meal with chicken fajita meal. The meals came out immediately and that tells me that most likely that everything was heated up in the microwave oven. My meal chicken was warm but not hot, like the platter usually is. the rice and refried beans platter had the beans falling off the plate and the waitress just wiped the spilled beans off from the plate and put it down onto to the table. Didn't offer to go and get another serving or anything... Then we were in the small booth next to the small booth to the kitchen and the order podium where the waiters always sit. The waiters kept falling into the bench seats when they would return after waiting on their customers and then talking about who they were dating, screwing, etc... Finally someone moved them and put another couple there. We will never go back there again. The new steakhouse will be open soon enough.. read more

Impressed. I have not been out here since I was a kid. Heard a lot of bad stuff but I still wanted to give it a try. I tried the chicken enchiladas to keep it simple. They were stuffed pretty well and the cream sauce was right on point. I feel that they are short handed so I am not so worry about the wait or the bartender forgetting some items. Their food was very, very good. I'd recommend getting their 'Moka Hettey' (I don't know how to spell it. It's 'mocha hett eyy', wonderful fajitas with shrimp, chicken, and much more, smothered in their cheese sauce. Mmmm, I definitely recommend their white cheese sauce as well. As we all know, taco, enchilada, chalupa, fajita and so on can all vary by locality and by chef. Papa Nachos checks 90% of the boxes for delivering a fun, nice and tasty experience. Their beer and mugs are very cold and the frozen margarita has an awesome texture and taste and the right amount of tequila. The sig other and I have been regulars for 12 years. Would have picked 4.5 but only 4 or 5 are available. And P.S. Their veggies need elevating but their tomatoes, pepper, guacamole and cilantro are always fresh. Salsa 4.5. Chips are thin. If you prefer fat chips, be prepared. The servers try to please you and succeed at doing so. Lots of booths. TVs in bar should be enlarged. Non functional for viewing and look funny. Papa Nachos also owns Two Senoritas in Mount Pleasant. The food is consistently graded a a 3 out of 5. My husband I actually believe the food was much better before they open up the new restaurant (building). The service for the first year was horrible, extremely slow because everyone was excited to go to a nice restaurant so it was super packed and not enough experience servers. Now that is been open a couple years the service has improved but the food is the same. The food does not match the beautiful building they built. I love the huge booths they installed and they have a bar area. They also have out door seating which can be nice. Honestly this is the best place in town as far as handling large groups for lunch and dinner. To me the Mexican food is not authentic enough. Overall we will certainly eat here again as it is the only place close to us that is reasonable. Tonight I ordered the Carne Asada with beans and rice. It actually was a nice size top sirloin. I thought it was thicker than it suppose to be. The rice was good and beans were typical refried. My husband got the rib eye, it certainly isn't a steak from Texas Roadhouse or even Ourback. Lowering my review from a 5 start to 3 stars... Food is great, service is usually wonderful and the pricing is great if you are paying cash. If not you will be charged a 3.5% surcharge for the privilege of using your credit card. I find this concept reprehensible. As a small business owner myself I would not pass along the charges like this regardless. I know nothing is free but the percentage they are charging is horrible and over what they pay unless their financial institution is taking them over the coals. Regardless, diners beware of the additional cost when dining here so you aren't caught off guard. read more

We drive up here from Gilmer just to eat here!! We love Papa Nachos!! The shrimp cocktail with the avacado chunks is supreme!! Their prices are unbeatable! $2.50 for a margarita during happy hour 3-6pm!! $2 for beers outside of happy hour! Their white queso is awesome and their tamales are great too! We eat here regularly since we're here in Pittsburg. We pretty much order the same thing. My son LOVES their white queso and would probably eat only that if we let him. My husband enjoys the brisket tacos, street tacos, and tamales. I get the flautas con creama (and sub white queso) and love them! Sometimes I'll get the cheese/chicken enchiladas which are also delicious. Their sopapillas are yummy if you're wanting a sweet treat. My only complaint, is that service is hit or miss. Shandi and Fran are our absolute favorites. There are a few though who are awful that can't get you in and out in under and hour and a half. It's just a bit ridiculous. But when you have a good server, you can't find a better place to eat! read more

From what I hear there are three Mexican places in town and they are all pretty much the same as far as food quality goes. It's a town of 5,000 so my expectations were low. Our dinner was fine -- nothing special but it got the job done. I'd give it 3 stars for the food. However, the service was top notch. I saw other reviews about how bad and rude the staff was but I experienced the exact opposite. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and took care of all our needs. Worst birthday dinner ever. The server at the restaurant puts a plate down in front of another customer, he pokes at the food with his fork and realizes it's not what he ordered. The waitress realizes the plate should have gone to me, one booth over. She picks it up from him and puts it in front of me. My "are you serious?" response was not received well apparently. She snatched the plate and headed off to the kitchen. I sat there in awe for a few minutes. When I saw her coming, I expected something different than what occurred. She passed us and went to the guy who previously viewed my dinner and apologized to him?!?! and then asked a few other people how their dinner was. She then turns to my wife asking how her untouched food was with some serious attitude and not even trying to 'fake it', refilled her drink by pouring a refill cup into hers splashing everything surrounding on the table. The attitude was visibly strong and you could sense that she did NOT want to be there. She dropped another dish of salsa on the table nearly spilling it. At that point I had already realized that they would make another dish, but the speculation of them simply re-plating the same food was growing in the back of my mind. The plan was to just sit there and let my wife(who was also agitated by the whole scenario) eat and try to revive the evening. But the attitude was so strong, it sent me over the edge to where I could not simply sit there. I went to the servers station and requested the manager. It was apparent that they saw something going on as the two ladies zipped back into the kitchen to get the manager. I did NOT want to cause a scene, but I had to share this situation with the person who should have been involved already. When she stepped up, I requested to speak with her more privately near the unoccupied bar area. I explained the situation and she replied that she told the kitchen staff to remake the order. There is no way in hell I was going to risk them making it again, especially after the attitude received from the server. I can guarantee it would be saliva seasoned by the kitchen staff. She offered a discount on my dinner... a freaking discount. I told her to have it made to go, since I would not be eating there. I calmly returned to our booth and told my wife that we would be leaving. Since she had nibbled at her plate, we took it to go. I paid my (discounted to $23.50 - free drink?) check and we left. depositing the to-go package into the trash on the way out of town, there is no way I could trust that my food would be un-tampered at that point. Especially since it was apparently acceptable for another random person to be served and inspect my food and it be moved to me after the mistake. I have taken time to calm down, made a small snack at home, watched a movie, and thought about this for a while. I considered not sharing this story, but honestly... this wasn't a simple 'wrong item ordered' or ' late/cold dish'. I have to say something. read more

I have been coming here for almost 22 years. My addiction to Papa Nachos started when my mom was a waitress here all those years ago. I no longer live in the area, but always make it a must to stop in and eat here when we are in town visiting family. We came in right at lunch time, was seated right away, and was told our waitress would be right with us. 10 minutes went by before our waitress was able to come over to get our drink order. She was putting out food for a large party, so this was completely understandable. She was very sweet and apologized for the wait. She took our drink and food order. Another 10 minutes went by and we finally Had to ask for chips and salsa. Eventually our food came and the kitchen had got my order wrong (beef fajita quesadillas, was served chicken) . I know that sometimes stuff happens so this didn't bother me. What was irritating was that the other two people I was with were finished eating by the time they finished remaking my plate and when they brought it out it was still wrong. I ordered a dinner portion and got a lunch portion. The first time around they had that part right at least. The meat was dry and bland. Definitely not what I was expecting. My husband ordered the molcajete and a single tamale as a side. Isn't molcajete supposed to be served in an actual molcajete? Never seen it served like fajitas before. He ate the shrimp but couldn't even tough out the rest of it. He said the meat was so dry and the flavor of the sausage wasn't great. His tamale he ordered finally made its debut after everyone was done eating and ready for the check. That was the only part of his meal that he actually enjoyed. This has always been my favorite restaurant and I have never ever had such a bad experience in all the years that I have been coming here. Pleasant and we love that place!! Our lunch was excellent. White queso with pico was very thin but had a great flavor. Green sauce was awesome like always. Drinks were yummy and had great prices. We each had lunch fajitas and they were soooo good! Chicken and beef had great flavors and it's a big portion for lunch. Comes with fresh pico and guacamole. Only thing we noticed was that they seemed short staffed. Our waitress had a ton of tables and was very busy so the pace was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry so we didn't mind. We are regular customers, but on our visit on Monday we started off with opening our menus only to find one of the menus had what looked like a spoonful of hot sauce on it. We brought it to the waitress attention and she apologized and left with the menu after a few minutes she brought a menu back which appeared to be the same menu just wiped off. After we finished our meals I was drinking the last part of my tea and noticed a fly in it and spooned it out and put it on this table. We called the waitress over and she says let me talk to the manager and then she returned and apologized and said they had been experiencing a fly problem. While we were leaving we saw the manager and explained what we experienced during our meal and she said " Oh I'm sorry" like it wasn't something out of the normal. We will not be returning . That was literally nasty, first the nasty menu and then the fly in the tea. Maybe, it's time for the Health Department to make a visit to see what other violations they have. read more

Currently no beer or wine = -1 star Queso had to be mixed with red sauce to have any flavor at all. I'm not a fan of over the top spicy hot sauce - I liked the sauce she brought with the chips but the queso was bland to the point of being tasteless. = -1 star 3-enchilada plate - had 2 cheese enchiladas & 1 beef enchilada - I was happy that there were onions in the cheese enchiladas and the beef enchilada did have some flavor. = even Rice & beans could have come out of a can for all the good they were . . . = -1 star That's it - this restaurant will probably do OK in Pittsburg - any closer to D/FW and it'd be gone in 6 months or less. P.S. my meal came to $14.55 and I gave the girl a $20 - she brought back a Fiver and $0.45 in silver. I know it's a small town but if she wanted a tip she should have brought 5 $singles . . . . . This place used to be pretty good in the early 2000's. Since then we have watched the food decline considerably. The chips that used to be light and airy; are now like salted card board. The salsa is the only mediocre at best! Salsa could use more cilantro, garlic, n onions! The pico could use Serrano peppers ! The guacamole no longer has the fresh avocado taste. It taste like the my use more of the packaged avocados , than fresh ones. The sour cream chicken enchiladas have more corn tortilla than shredded chicken! The wait staff are soooo friendly and welcoming but the hostess are always so exasperated. Good Tex Mex. their platters are a great deal and surprisingly their ribs are tender and juicy. Shrimp kabobs are frequently dry. I don't normally like Mexican rice but I eat all of theirs every time, very good. Refried beans are OK. They have a very good white queso the yellow queso is only okay. read more
