One of the BEST Mexican spots I've eaten at! The staff was nice and our server was excellent. Kept our drinks filled and chips full. The salsa was really good, how I like it. The plate I got was the John Wayne and everything about it was soooo good! I highly recommend eating here when in the area, they do not disappoint!! read more

The Jalapeno Tree - John Wayne - Mexican Near Me - Mount Pleasant, Texas

In Mount Pleasant overnight in our motorhome (stayed at KOA, which was nice; another review). We decided to try The Jalapeno Tree. It didn't feel right when we walked in. First of all, the food was better than good. I had vegetable quesadilla. It was very good and so hot I had to let it cool a little. Wife had club taco. A twist on the soft shell taco and was very good. Chips and salsa OK. Our server was nice and did a good job. As far as a Mexican restaurant goes, this place misses the spot. Again, food was good, but the atmosphere and vibe was off. We wished we had gone to the The Two Sisters. Frozen margarita machine was "still broken"; this was a disappointment (how long has it been broken?). We ordered the tall margarita on the rocks. It was palatable. We will not return when passing through Mount Pleasant. read more

I was in Mt Pleasant for work and we went to dinner at The Jalapeno Tree and had a great experience. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I ordered the El Dorado Jack steak and it was fabulous! When I came home, I tried to make a copy cat version for my husband and it was a hit! read more

Great Service! Salsa was decent. Had the chicken quesadilla. Finished dinner pretty quickly as it was late. About 30 minutes after we left our stomachs Very Upset. read more

Let me start off by saying I was really Vibing with this place you walk in and the bright colors instantly evoke a feeling of joy since I was traveling alone, I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was amazing. And the food oh my goodness the food. The chips and salsa were great especially the green salsa and I decided to go with the ultimate nachos which were so good and filling I was only able to eat half the steak and chicken had so much flavor. I was completely satisfied with his fabulous experience. read more

May 15,2023. Party of one. 2 pm. It was expectedly slow. Mid afternoon on a Monday. So I was sat in the bar area . I ordered a Tecate. They were 86. " because of the bud light thing ". So I ordered a Bohemia. 2:14 my shrimp tacos hit the table. They are always delicious. This spot was of no exception. $15. This is a cute location and I'm sure my mom would have loved it (RIP) Knocked another one off the list Mom. read more

We stopped in on a Thursday night for an anniversary dinner. They weren't too busy, so we were seated immediately. Chips and salsa were brought as soon as we sat down. Our server came a few minutes later. We ordered margaritas and our food. Margs came and one of them was the wrong one so it was swapped out. Food eventually came out and was pretty good. Overall a pleasant experience, even if service was a bit slow. read more

I'm literally so obsessed with this place it's not even funny. I would go every day if I could. Their queso is absolutely. Servers are really nice. I absolutely love the energy. The shrimp bowl is my favorite and I get it almost every time I go. read more

Being such a small town off the highway, we weren't expecting much but WOW! The service was great, the restaurant was adorable and the pork tacos were AMAZING!!! They even offer roasted zucchini instead of rice and beans. Please open a location in Austin! read more

Susannah killed it tonight at a huge group outing - awesome service and really good food. Wow the fajita butter - I'm sure I need a cardiac consult after this stuff but it's really good on the steak and chicken fajitas. Fun crew at the bar serving cold drinks with a smile. Say hey to the boss Jack - he runs a tight ship here. Great food, great service, great time at the J-Tree. read more

Food was great. The service from the bar was amazing very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Authentic atmosphere and great decor.

Probably some of the worst Mexican food that I've ever had I was staying at a hotel and it was right in the parking lot. I called it in. I was supposed to go pick it up at the drive-through at a certain time. They had me sitting there for 25 minutes my food was cold and it was terrible, I would call that Mexican food. I don't know what it was. read more

I was visiting the area from out of town. This is closest to the hotel. The customer service is really good. We had a wonderful server. She was so sweet with the best personality. Everything was prompt. I just didn't like the food. The enchiladas was dry. The fajitas seemed precooked. The tortillas soup was decent and the salsa is good. read more

The food was great. The green sauce was amazing. If I'm ever this way again, I will be sure to stop again.

We stopped in after a long day of driving and got carry out. Terrific place! Everyone so friendly and accommodating. The veggie rice bowl and the spinach enchiladas with chicken sauce were both delicious. Bartender so helpful and friendly and the carryout server was great. Carried out margaritas that we loved! We'll definitely come again when we are back this way! Thanks for a great meal! read more

For Mount Pleasant this is diffidently a five star. It's taken 3 attempts to get in, new restaurants here is always huge. It's a small town of about 15k people and most of what we have is fast food. The two major restaurants are Chilis and Applebee's so another Chain is what we needed. Down side it's another Mexican restaurant, we have so many ifs pretty much all you eat when your around here. Upside, it's as close to good food as your gonna get that I have tried. I ordered the ribeyes covered in cheese and a ranchero sauce topped with Shrimp. It's normally served with rice but I got the steamed mixed veggies. My husband ordered the quail kabobs with charro beans. We also shared a small house salad. Overall, service was good for how busy it was. The salsa, well not as tasty as I had hoped. Tasted better at Chilis. The green sauce was excellent. Everyone around me plates looked great! Certainly will try the tacos or fajitas next. I also ordered one of the specialty margaritas and looks like they decided to just give me a regular one with the shot I ordered because looked nothing like the picture. That brme to the only real disappointing part of our dining experience. The drink served in a small Margarita glass with there straws which are way to big for glass. You can't lay the straw down in glass with out squirting it all over you each time you go for a drink. They need bigger glass our just small cocktail straws. So that was the only thing that sucked. Other then that I can see us gaining a few extra pounds here! read more

When I lived in Sherman there was a Jalapeño Tree there. It was the best Tex-mex place in town. (IMO) great food, excellent service never had any issues. But this one we waited at the bar top 20 minutes for a drink. Put in a food order and over an hour later, still no food. Bar tender asked the kitchen about our order. The told her it was going to take another hour to get it to us. Know places are short handed but two hours for two dinners was unbelievable. Needless to say we left without dinner. read more

I judge a good Mexican restaurant by the salsa. Their salsa was not the best. It was almost like it had ketchup in it. Also, the kitchen was very slow getting orders out. I felt sorry for the servers. So many times people blame them but they really don't have control with how fast the food is ready to be served. I love Mexican food but The Jalapeno Tree is not in my top 10. read more

Our first time here and WONT be our last!! The peach margaritas are AMAZING. The green sauce is to die for. The chips are fresh and AWESOME. I ordered the vegetable bowl. It was absolutely delicious!!! The BEST part of our visit was our waitress Kaitlin. She is probably one of the best servers ever! We will be back!!!! read more

The food was actually delicious. The service was great. And the decor was cute. I was shocked that it was as good as it was. My husband got a chicken quesadilla and I got a chicken chimichanga with ranchero sauce. The tortilla soup was the best I've ever had and I'm from southern CA. read more

Not sure what you have done to your tamales but they looked like they was from a can and heated. Was not ask if I wanted sauce on them and didn't ask my guest either. Didn't get what I ordered 1st time around then they fixed it after my friend was almost finished with his food when I FINALLY got mine back. Was given mostly crumbs on chips. WAS REALLY GOOD LAST TIME I EAT THERE. read more

I had been huddled in my hotel room all day. Against the Texas heat. Up to my elbows in work. Curtains drawn, CNN droning on & on in the background when I decided I needed a change! What was that yellow & red restaurant down the hill? Tex Mex? Do I remember dancing chili peppers on the outside as I drove by it? Yellow, red, sounds very bright. That's it! That's what I needed! That's how I came to sitting in the corner of this happy TexMex restaurant. Colorful sunshine's smile down on me while wait staff hustle back and forth. The chips are fresh! Yum! I was able to score a table out of the way to watch families and couples and friends meet, eat, drink & be merry! Two types of dip, salsa and a light, white herbed dip were brought with a huge basket of fresh chips. Service was immediate. Amanda, Jalapeño Tree server, made several drink suggestions and I settled on unsweet mango tea. Yummers!! After several months of awesome seafood, I turned my eyes inland to North Texas Beef and ordered the Beef Brisket Quesadillas. First bite of an undressed quesadilla is a barbecue beef brisket sensation wrapped in flaky, grilled flour tortilla. Very, very good. Then I added the cheese sauce in the cute chip-cup that held it and zing!!! There a little jalapeño heat in the sauce. Not overwhelming, just enough. Next I added everything on top, cheese sauce, guacamole, sour cream & lettuce. Smoky, creamy, cheesy, spicy, flaky, crunchy goodness!! Excellent! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. It is nice, clean, happy, and the food is awesome.....did I read about an apple pie.....Amanda!!!! read more

Food was not that impressive, nor the service. There are not that many options in Mt. Pleasant Texas.

I waited almost an hour for chicken soup like burrito with no flavor. Seriously the chicken burrito was mush and full of watery fluid. I cut into it with my fork to see fluid rushing out. It's like it was from a can. Don't bother read more

This place is super cute. It is clean and the staff was friendly. We had a group of seven at lunch time so it did take a while to get our food and we had to wait for drink refills. So this was an experience. Last night I ate here and it was very good. I do have a limited diet so I ordered a grilled salmon, and avocado salad. Keeping in mind that I was paying for the more expensive full meal I was delivered a great piece of salmon but a woefully limited avocado salad, like a very weak try. I asked them to step it up and they did bring me more lettuce and avocado. So tonight I came back an ordered the same thing except I was specific about half an avocado. So, Salmon and half an avocado and I would pay for the full meal. So when they delivered my meal I got a very dry over cooked chicken breast and some what of an avocado salad. The owner took the time to respond to my review and I appreciate that very much. Looks like it was an off nite so I bumped up the stars. I will be back the next time I am in the area. Looking forward to that great salmon and maybe a chat with the owner. Thank you So what can you say, I just rolled with the deal and moved on down the road. Now if this was my establishment I would have immediately taken my plate away and delivered what I had ordered. That would have been the right thing to do. No worries life is good. read more

I went in this past friday and i was disgusted and not comfortable enjoying my food after what I had discovered. I ordered a water and my water came with a little surprise. thankfully i noticed it before i even took a sip. the ice cube in the water had a FROZEN FLY IN IT. A FLY. the waiter just took my water and replaced it with a new one. i did not want a new water nor anything from the back where the ice was from....not a pleasant experience. read more

From the prices to the food it's all bad, better off going to Taco Bell . From the salsa they give you with the chips (tastes like tomato paste) and whatever the other sauce is . The beans were dried out, the rice pasty, the cheese in the enchilada was of low grade, the tamale taste like the tamales that come from a can (Hormel from when I was in elementary) and the size was comical (about a third of the size of a real tamale). My lady had the a pitiful plate also. We came off the road after driving about 8 hrs. and this is what we had to force down our throats!! read more

My husband and I went here tonight and we're somewhat disappointed. We were disappointed as a hole in the flavor of the food, but our waiter, Zee, was fabulous! He had several tables and was so.... busy, but he kept such a pleasant attitude and tried to service us with a smile. Outside of that, the food seemed average at best. I did enjoy the green sauce, which I think is an avocado salsa, and that is what I enjoyed the most. The chips were fresh and so that was a definite plus. I had the shrimp enchiladas with tequila sauce and I'm so glad I only got one. To me, it was lukewarm at its best, and when you have cream sauce and a flour tortilla, lukewarm does not represent it well. I had the cheese enchiladas and it was truly warm, however, it was tasted average, but I did like it better than the shrimp enchilada. I did not like the tequila sauce on the shrimp enchilada, but did enjoy the grilled shrimp that was on top of it. My rice was so so, nothing spectacular or homemade tasting about it, and the black beans were OK. I love homemade tortillas and they did have some, but I think I like homemade corn tortillas the best and I'm not sure I can really give these a fair or great rating. I also ordered a piña colada, some thing I may do once or twice a year, and I sent it back. There really wasn't a lot of flavor to it at all, and I was highly disappointed about that. My husband had a Combination plate with tamales, beef, cheese enchiladas and a chicken enchilada with rice with beans. He said he would give it a three and he thought the filling of the enchiladas were minimal and tasted very average. Outside of our waiter, Zee, our dining experience wasn't too exciting. We had traveled almost 2 hours to come to Mount Pleasant and I was disappointed with the restaurant we chose. We did go to a Jalapeño Tree restaurant that wasn't too far from Joaquin, Texas about 2 1/2 months ago and we enjoyed that one. read more
