This is my new favorite restaurant. Everything was fresh and delicious. We drove almost a hour to get here and we are so glad we did. My husband had the stuffed grilled avocado stuffed with tender moist chicken on half and tender flavorful steak on the other half. I had Mi Terra enchiladas..enchiladas 3 ways and it was spectacular. The Queso was the best we ever had. We're actually heading there now for a family outing. This will be my second visit in less than a week. I'm so happy to find Tejano's. The service was amazing. Oh my goodness, this place just made my week! Being new to the area, I was hopeful I'd find good tex mex. We relocated from Austin, so the bar was set high. This place had better service, better ambiance , and absolutely amazing food. Honestly, it's better than anything we had in Austin. We are thrilled that this is in our backyard now, and we are going to definitely be regulars. From the shrimp platter to the enchiladas to the flautas, everything was perfect!!! Let me start by saying if you are within 10, 15, or 25 miles of Cooper then Tejano's is a must for a stop. We passed by it last night on the way back to Cooper Lake SP and saw it was packed, with parking in front and around most of the town square full. That was a pretty good indicator of this was the place to check out. Sitting on the town square, yes town square it is hard to miss plus with all the beauty of town square is a plus. The city is such a throw back to a simpler time and way of life. Well from the time we walked and the door and greeted by staff and the aroma of the food we knew this was going to be a great choice. After being seated and promptly taking our drink orders, waters all around plus 2 margarita's on the rocks and diet coke for the daughter we promptly ordered the first thing that caught our attention, a bowl of their chorizo-queso served with warm flour tortillas. This could be a meal all on its own it was so good, creamy, cheesey golden goodness. Plus provided chips and salsa, chips were warm and not like the normal heavy corn tortilla chips these were light, fresh and not greasy. The salsa was a little on the runny side but had good flavor. My daughter ordered the kids cheese enchilada as she wanted the fries so she could dip them in cheese sauce, plus an extra enchilada as she is a growing tween. When the waiter arrived with our orders fresh and HOT as he put them down in from of us he re-iterated please be careful "plates & food" are hot. But what does the daughter do, cut right into the HOT CHEESY enchilada so you can guess what happens next. She does the whole open mouth tongue dance so she doesn't scald the roof of her mouth. Wife and I just giggled and asked her "did you not just hear the man say be careful food is HOT"...that was good for a laugh. Wife ordered the Jalesco (chicken & beef) enchilada covered with sour-cream sauce or chili con carne partnered with lots of rice. It looked amazing and smelled even better. The flavors were really good and my wife made herself miserable attempting to eat it all but alas she could not. The only draw back was she said it needed a little more salt/pepper which is pretty good call out by her as she is not a heavy salt eater but she said the overall flavors were good. I ordered the Tito Special, if for no other reason this is worth the trip, 2 fajita enchilada's covered in spicy queso topped with sauteed onions, this was FABULOUS. The spice of the queso was not over the top but just the right amount of catch the back of your throat burn. Plus the fajita meat is cut into little bite size pieces so cutting the enchilada's is easy. The meat is tender and juicy with good flavor. Had it not been for the spicy queso my dish could have probably used a little more salt as well but I decided to pass. The waiter did a great job in keeping our water glasses full and I think my daughter went through at least 2.5 glasses of diet coke so that was a big plus. At the end of our meal we were planning to watch the Cooper Rodeo Parade so the next big bonus was they had margarita's TO-GO talk about a WIN!! The other honorable mention is the bathroom, talk about a clean restroom it was a pleasant surprise. I am not saying all restaurants have issues with keeping them clean but you can tell here they definitely make it a point to keep clean and it shows and is appreciated. Especially if you have a wife like mine that has aversion to going anywhere except the house this was welcome surprise so had to get mentioned. We have some friends meeting us here at the park so we will be going back this weekend to share with them. read more

Oh how we wish that there could be more than 5 stars to give this A++ Mexican Grill!!! Do you know how rare it is to find a Mexican restaurant that can dull out outstanding let alone a good Chile Relleno!! The answer is very few and very far in between. But I'm getting ahead of myself, so let's start with the service! Firstly, the entirety of the staff is beyond exceptional! My mother and law had the shrimp with rice and beans, my lovely wife had the Flautas. The chips were perfect, I would change the salsa take it a bit more chunky and the flavor was amazing, but a very minor detail that is exhausted when it comes to everything else! The food, not only well placed and prepared with care! The flavors send an uppercut of delicious flavors to your palette! We have found our forever Mexican food fix with this place, and we will always show them love for the outstanding experience we had! Let's start off with its great location in the heart of Cooper Square you feel like you're taking a step back into time and Josey Whales, Rooster Cogburn and the Duke himself could ride into the town at any minute. Now for the interior, it's like walking into your Mexican grandmas house there's some old paintings and pictures of people you have no idea who they are but the smell coming from the kitchen is the most distracting thing, it's like a mystery back there and you better not go in there bugging her about what she's cooking because grandma don't fuck around she only makes one dish one way and if you don't like it....come caca! Unless you're grandmas favorite in which case she will make her mijo the dish how he likes it..... you all are the mijos because this place will make your dishes however you like it for those picky ass eaters. Alright I know y'all want to know why I actually drive that far for Tex Mex, well because this place has some bomb ass cheese and salsa to start you off and if you like it spicy ask for the special hot salsa it will put some hair in your chest. Now to the main dishes people love! the enchiladas you can choose from a great selection but the Vaqueras are my ride or die, the brisket tacos or tacos al carbon....if you aren't a fan of Tacos well that's just not American. Now their rice and beans bring it back to your abuelitas house those things by themselves are a main dish.....but the main and real reason I drive there is for the TAMPIQUEÑA yup the secret is out, that ain't even on the menu so if you ask for it they are going to know I let it out......simple steak chopped in salsa with some rice and beans but they probably sprinkle some crack on it because I'm hooked. We drive 20 miles, sometimes twice a week, to eat here. We pass multiple Mexican restaurants on the way. Their food is the highest quality Mexican food anywhere around. I am not a huge enchilada fan, but theirs are phenomenal! Mi Tierra Enchiladas are some of the best. The tomatillo sauce is perfect coupled with the guacamole enchilada. Combine that with a beef enchilada, and a chicken enchilada and you have a complete meal. They don't stop there, they cover each side with chicken and beef fajita meat and pico! Not to mention the owner. He is on premises, greets everyone, knows most of his customers' names and provides top notch service. It is worth the drive no matter where you live. Friday night on our way home from the Casino we decided to stop here instead of our usual place in Commerce. NEVER AGAIN!! The waitress named Nelly was so rude and kept rolling her eyes at us. Our food was so bland, no taste at all. The salsa and queso was so watered down it would not even stay on the chip. His Taco was so greasy, the grease ran down his arm, gross! We could hear the lady in the kitchen talking to staff with such disrespect and kept dropping the F bomb. As my boyfriend stood at the register waiting to pay (about 10 min) with no line at the register, I used the Ladies Room, which was clean (only positive), as I approached the door our waitress opened the door with a shot glass in hand, explained the awful service! And to top if off, I did not eat anything on Friday and have not ate since, my trip to the ER this morning at 4 am resulted in Food Poisoning. Thanks! read more
